trick or treat! HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

Consider these tips before venturing out on Halloween: • Go During Safe Hours - The best

time is typically right after dinner or before dusk for visibility reasons. You will be able to see your children as well others. • Steer Clear of Masks – Try to

recreate masks with face paint in order to not impair your child’s vision while they are walking at night. • Be Visible – Choose costumes

that are brightly colored or add reflective strips or glow sticks to your child’s costume. • Never Go Alone – Children should

always be accompanied by an adult. Children should also have emergency identification info on hand. • Walking Tips – Children should

understand how to cross the street safely, as well as other common traffic rules. Always use crosswalks and obey signals.

• Knock on Doors That You Know –

encourage children to only trick or treat at homes where they know the inhabitants. Or ask the neighbors they do know for their opinion before approaching an unknown home. • Don’t Go Inside – Never go inside

anyone’s home while trick-ortreating. • Stay on Track – Avoid shortcuts

through alleys or yards. Stay on well-lit sidewalks and neighborhoods. • Say No! – Always remember

stranger danger even for older kids. If your child is old enough to trick or treat alone remind them to always say no to strangers. • Taste-Testing Patience – Pack a

treat bag with candy that has already been checked to prevent your children from snacking on uninspected treats.
