Homes Without Families Children's Shelter 2015 09 - 2016 05 Gaduation Design Thesis Individual Project Director \ Chiu Hao-Hsiu
Childhood shapes the very first state of one's ego, representing the essential process of personality formation. And "Home" often regarded as the basic role for developing one's character. In the Chinese world, different from western society, "Home" is critically linked by blood relationship. However, when the consanguinity is lost, how do we redefine "Home" for the remain youngsters. Children shelters today are designed base for group living. Children live together and live in the same nursery's system. Yet, each of the placement children come from the various background and possess diverse values. "Homes Without Families" is a project that takes mental and physical diversities of children as the consideration of space performances. Youngsters will be able to express themselves in different spatial conditions during daily life. The design strategy is aimed to help the placement children learn to cope with their independent life in advance. In order to improve the homogenization state of the placement children, the counselor can determine treatment for each child by observing the different lifestyles and behaviors of the individuals. The architectural design strategy is to create three different planes to joint: city, institution, and homes of children. The original ground plane is opened to the city while providing open spaces as well as facilities for neighbors. The second floor will contain the unit homes of children and shared functions of the institution, such as restroom, kitchen, and etc. The third plane will be a decent shared garden for children to have fun, to get together, to think, and learn to be socialized. The main concept of the thesis design is to reverse the internal relation of the nursery's system from up-bottom into bottom-up. And also redefine the past two-points relationship between institution and society into a linear relationship from individuals, homes, institutions to society.

Children's Shelter According to the definition by Kadushin, children's shelter generally refers to a group of noblood-relation child to live together 24-hours a day and to live under the care of a no-blood relation adults. It provides therapeutic care, included somatic education, and daily-life assistances, with coordinating with professional social workers and counselors.
In Taiwan Children's shelter in Taiwan simulates the home-like environment and provides children living with the ideal "family." Nowadays, a "family" is generally composited with 10 to 15 replacement children and 2 caregivers. In addition, according to the law of the replacement and rehabilitation institution, the living space of institution should be designed and created into a "family life" atmosphere. Taiwan)

Differences of Individual Children of placement, each of them have different background and come from different place, have diverse values. However, they have to live togther and live under the same nursery's system. In this project, the main concept is to break the group thinking way and refine the institution from bottom to up. Taking the consideration on each of residents' situation is the critical issue of design thinking. (Follows: from movie," Short-Term 12")

Homes ď˝œ Eight Story Patterns The Different forms of home are telling the apperance of each individual. Base on sectional stories of placement children, there are in the end coming out with eight units. With the same size in plane, these spaces are diferent from the partitions and external openings.Creating multi-dimensional differences in space is to provide diverse spatial conditions for children to express themselves in their own ways.

Site Park Lane by CMP is the new important civil space. On the ends of Park-lane are National science museum and National of the fine art museum. In the middle of the park lane is the recreational and commercial area. Comparing to the hight price of park lane, the Mei Chun road, which is parallel to Park-lane, provide the low price living functions. The site locates in the alley between park lane and Mei Chun road. There is not only convenient for living and easy to experience arts and knowledge. Issue -In recent years, the singleness has become the significant group in society. As the site is in the commercial area, the rental apartments are targeted at singleness. -In the result of the inner space[private] are not enough to residents. The living objects are out pushed to the alley[public]. Consequently, the alley becomes the semi-public and semi-private space and blurs the line between street and residences. This project brings the result into lively enhance neighborhood relations. Strategy The box in the size of 3*3*3 mÂł is as the basic cell. The project would stack the cells to a community prototype. By transforming the prototype, It makes the public, semi-public, semi-private and private spaces interweave with each other and enrich the relations between neighbors.

Space-lab for Zeronauts Experimental Theater 2014 Fall 4nd Grade Exchange Programme Individual Project Director \ Teh Joo Heng
Zeronaut, a term coined by John Elkington, as a new breed of innovators, determined the mindset change in our behavior, culture, modulus operandi and our co-existence with the ecological systems. It challenges the idea of procuring, operating and managing the end of life of a building in an ecological way that is no concept of waste, use of renewable resources and no adverse impact to users and the ecology. The idea of a space-lab suggests a compact self-sustaining testing bed or a prototyping platform for learning, researching and evaluating the design that drives the zero agenda in architecture. This project will reuse and redesign an abandon electrical substation. As a result of the National University of Singapore lacks the social space for the small group of people at the campus. Space-lab has been redefined as an experimental theater to achieve small social space and attract students. Creating trails system to let space can be reconfigured by movable items. In the notion of time-sharing, the substation can contain different kinds of activities, such as temporary sleeping space, cafe’, reading space, lecture room, theater, and party space. It will be embodied with the high degree of flexibility and adaptability to cater for a variety of spatial and systemic reconfiguration.

Cloister Gymnaisum Sport Complex Center of THU 2015 09 - 2016 05 Gaduation Design Thesis Individual Project Director \ Chiu Hao-Hsiu
The number of students in Tunghai University grows rapidly from past 700 to present 17000 people. Under the condition that the original gymnasium is no longer adequate for its need. In this project, the complex sports center stands next to the main entrance of Tunghai, also beside old gymnasium. The building includes a natatorium, outdoor and indoor basketball courts, a tennis court, badminton courts, gym, clubhouse, and etc. It connects east to runway and others sports fields and effectively integrates sports venues in the campus. Tunghai University is situated on the hillside of Dadu Mountain. Due to the difference in elevation, the architectures have amusing circulation paths weaving through the campus. In the design, I took the advantages of the terrain to embed the 12-height sports spaces into the land. In addition, the characteristic of classic Tunghai architectures- the cloister has also applied in the design. The cloister encloses the sports venues that it can hold not barely only connecting entire building but also containing bleachers and “corners to brief stay. Compared with the traditionally isolated sports fields, the idea of the design means to open the sports spaces and make the sports activities to be seen by anyone unintentionally.
