Concept of Mobius Strip
‘ Mobius Strip ’ Gallery
This contemporary art and artist museum is designed for a chinese modern artist, Ai Weiwei. The concept of this design comes from the art works and the way he created the art works. Ai weiwei likes to creat his new art works with the old stuffs he collected. At the same time, Weiwei Ai redesigns many old stuffs as the new stuffs. What’s more, he often use the similar methods to creat art works. From these above, I come up with three words started with ‘R‘, they are ‘Reuse‘, ‘Redesign‘ and ‘Repeat‘. In addition, these three words could be concluded as ‘Cycle‘. This reminds me the ‘Mobius Strip’, because the ‘Mobius Strip‘ represents the same meaning with the art works of Ai Weiwei which is making the old stuffs into new art works and never ends. Thus, I design the gallery area based on the ‘Mobius Strip‘ beacuse the gallery has the closest relatiobnship with the art works. Then other parts of the museum such as office, storage and so on will be arranged along the ‘Mobius Strip‘ shaped gallery. As a consequence, the visitors will have a impressive experience in this museum.

1. The sloped inner space in the music hall is totally different from any other normal buildings. In this type of space, people will get a new experience.
2. The slant semi private shelter not only protect the indoor space but also provide people a good place talking with their friends and visiting the music exhibition.
3. Semi-underground space offers slope and big steps. It serves for relaxing, small shows, private chatting, etc. People enjoy themselves well here.
People need three basic types in this music hall: 1. indoor space, 2. semi private shelter, 3. outdoor open space. To fulfil these, three creative types in this music hall: 1. sloped inner space, 2. semi sloping private shelter, 3. semi-underground space.

Most of the current concert halls have their own path pattern, but these path are same. People go to the concet hall, enter into the symphony hall via the entrence square and entrence hall. After the concert is over, they go back to home with some shopping or not. Such, it is boring for the audience come to have a concert. So in this project, I try my best to avoid this pattern. In the meantime, I also decide to design a new kind of path for the citizens. In this concert hall people will have a totally different experience.

The increasing population of older people becomes a serious problem in the world. Furthermore, in China, the nursing care becomes a social issue which requires an urgent solution. Foshan, the third biggest city in Guangdong Province of China, has the similar serious problem about the nursing care. The number of the senior housing institutions, including the public owned and private ones are very small. Most of older people live alone without appropriate care from their family members or public. This project explores a mix-used area related with senior-care services and senior housing institutions. The comprehensive project will include several communities for older people, the nursing home and other buildings related with the senior-care affairs. It will offer older people a comfortable and friendly environment.

To recreate the scattered houses of a Chinese village, as well as to create the desirable views of the mountainscape, each of the hotel unit is arranged in distinct orientation. The three blocks - covered in local stone material - sit on the three layers of rockery and weave into the three strips of greenery from the future ‘vertical forest’ project on the right, creating the harmonized “Three Fingers”. The main entrance of the hotel is located on the left which faces across the other half of the project including shops, museum and observatory tower.

The panoramic tower is inspired by the natural rock formations of karst landform, consisting of three different vertical volumes intersect in elevation. The tallest volume function as vertical circulation and the panoramic viewing deck on top. The other two are occupied by coffee shop and restaurant below the deck. The gaps between the volumes covered in greenery and flowers function as the main entrance as well as sources of light into the tower.

The traditional way to construct a brick wall is to cement the bricks horizontally. However, when we started to build a wall, we wanted to find some new ways. Firstly, we wanted to use grey and red bricks to make a variation on color. Secondly, we wanted to make a different texture of metrical bulging red bricks in construction. Finally, we made “V-shape” window. By combining this construction idea with composition, we used two weeks constructing a real wall. In this process, we knew that we should have a lot of skills even when building a small piece of wall: We should know how to make the bricks and the mortar combine together, how to mix the cement and sand , how to set a line and ensure the bricks can be cemented on a line.

The site is located in Wuyi mountain area of Fujian Province in China. After the mountain hotel is completed, it will attrack a large number of people come here to have a good vacation. These people are likely to be closed to trees, rivers and fresh air, when designing a mountain hotel, I focus on the relationship between nature and human. Huizhou style is used in the mointain hotel to fit the local characteristic. Some traditional Chinese architecture elements such as classical garden is also used in this design. In this project, organic rhythm of architecture has been purposed to evoke the absent memory of playing with nature. In response to the height of mountain, plants, wind and view, this rhythm, which can be shown especially in path, size of space and angle of roof, makes the architecture merge with the surroundings and gives people unique experience in nature other than the one in city. As a consequence, I believe people here will have an excellent time.

This site is located in Chenlu town which is near Shaanxi province in China. Chenlu town has a long history and it is famous for the porcelain. In this project, the local government plans to build a new area to attract the tourists. The government hopes to build a new area for tourist center, hotels, museum and government center. In this progect, the whole class is divided into several big groups and each big group has seveal small groups. My duty in the small group is design the government center for Chenlu town. I use the traditional elements, textures and materials for this design. There are two concept for the government center design, first is keeping the old architectures and constructions as much as possible; the second is keep the local traditional culture and methods for architecture design. From this project, I created the toof of lower level as the platform for the upper lever. As a consequence, this project forms different level in height, thus the created space will not only attract the local officers and villagers, but also attract the tourists. At last, a friendly and open government center is designed for Chenlu town.

People grow up in the nature with different ways. From birth to death, everyone has different life track. But in the aspect of dimension, most of people are in common. So we embodied the life track with some design methods. In this entity construct we make different space for different person in order to create rich space experience. Thus, we use the soft plastic pipes to form the basic shape. At the beginning, the circle is the smallest, then the size of the circle becomes more and more bigger. At the same time, we use the thin strip to tie the pipes together.
