YOUNGER quad fans the world over will be queuing to get a look at Yamaha’s new YMF125R Raptor. Powered by a 125cc four-stroke single, the Raptor is more about the fun side of things rather than just plodding along. It uses a five-speed manual gearbox so is great for teaching the young ones how to use a clutch. It’s a sporty little unit, with the electric start engine reaching its maximum power output at 8,000rpm. The little Raptor is also built to play, with double wishbone type front suspension and Monocross rear suspension acting as a barrier between rider and terra firma. Yamaha’s Raptor can be yours for $5,499 and it comes with a 12 month unlimited parts and labour warranty. Check out www.yamaha-motor.com.au. n

QUAD TORQUE SEPTEMBER 2010 - 7 Continued over>
THOUGH not officially imported yet into Australia, the TGB Target 525 should be. In last month's Quad Torque test of the Blade 550 we gave you a sneak preview of its competition cousin, the Target 525. Many of the same parts are used, like the engine, but changes to the drive-line where it counts, and of course the killer styling of the Target stands the two apart, almost as if they were from different planets.

Using the same 503cc four
stroke single cylinder engine as the Blade obviously helps keep development costs down for TGB. It's a basic enough unit but pushes out 30kW (42HP) through to the shaft drive. Of course there will be a few less ponies by the time it gets to the tyres but the everyday sports quad rider won't be disappointed by the power output. Transmission is CVT, with a V-belt doing duties to keep the mechanical gizmos whirling and turning. Where it's tamer cousin Blade uses fully independent rear suspension, the Target has a

the controls right down to the front bash plate. The adventurous farmer can even opt for an accessory winch.
On track
The Target 525 definitely feels livelier than the Blade, and it has a more 'raw' feel to it. Where the Blade will shimmy and float over the bumps, the Target, with its solid rear end, tends to be thrown around a bit more. When it comes to berms and corners the Target takes over, allowing you to power slide the machine through a corner without fear of it wanting to tip up, and possibly over. It also feels a much lighter machine than the 300 odd kilos it says on the specs sheet. Make no mistake, the Target 525 is a big sucker but it shouldn't intimidate riders who are smaller than average because it always felt planted during our test.
The Maxxis tyres also helped the Target slide around with control, and the huge alloy footboards and serrated pegs let you grip with your boots much better than 'softer' quads.
Where can you get it?
It seems the Target 525 we rode with the help of Trooper Lu's Motorcycles at Moorebank in Sydney is a bit of an anomaly. This particular model is a huge seller in Europe, especially France, but the Australian TGB ATV importer PFG is waiting to see how the brand is received prior to committing to importing TGB's sports range. We are here to tell you the Target 525 is a ball of fun and hopefully you will be able to buy one in the near future. n
