Record Weekend at Azzie ST Lake Mills, Wisconsin - July 16 By Bambi Yogerst

inally, Aztalan short track was good to go for their dirt track event and it was a record breaking weekend for the club at that. Great attendance both days made this late opener a fantastic one for sure. The rain held off until after the show on Saturday night. Folks that stayed the night were treated to not only rain, but a pretty cool lightning show! By Sunday morning the weather had calmed down, the track dried and the Azzie club members pulled off a Sunday program as well! After a couple rain spoiled weekends this season, it was great to get in all the racing! Saturday night, the Super Senior’s first heat had Jim Kirschbaum on his KTM and Honda mounted Brad Boughton bat-

tling for the lead right off the starting line. Kirschbaum went on to take the win. John Hanson and Robert Kluender came off the line evenly in the second heat. Hanson edged into turn one to lead the opening lap. By mid-race, Kluender had taken over the lead. In the main it was back to Boughton getting the holeshot before Kirschbaum took over out of the first turn. By the mid-race the battle was brewing between the third and fourth place riders, Dan Vonmoos and Dan Peterson as they closed up on Boughton. Boughton wabbled a bit going into turn one of the final lap, bringing Vonmoos and Peterson even closer. The race concluded with Kirschbaum the winner, Boughton holding onto second and Vonmoos in third. Zaria Martens got her #322 KTM off

the line first in the Women’s class heat race. Hannah Lange pushed her #90 Honda quickly into the lead and went on to take the win giving her choice position for the main event. There she grabbed the holeshot ahead of Martens and Brooke Chromy. A little loss of traction between turns three and four, left Chesney Broughton back in fourth place. Martens and Chromy stayed close together as Lange put more distance on everyone through the rest of the race. The Twins/ Vintage class first heat sent Drew Saunders riding a Yamaha off the line first. Front wheel off the ground, his lead is short lived as Dan Murre pulled the lead between turns one and two, then dominating the rest of the race. Todd Lefeber led the second heat bringing him up against Murre in the main. Lefeber got the holeshot but Bob Reese cruised past in turn two, heading down the back stretch as Mark Snyder took a spill in the middle of the pack, bringing out the red flag. Jumping the restart, Lefeber ended up starting on the back row. Murre got the holeshot followed by Reese and Mark Martinich. The riders spread out, holding those positions to finish. Michael Van Langen on his Rotax jumped into the lead of the 80’s Singles Main. Dan Murre stuck with him, not giving any comfort to Van Langen’s lead. By third lap, Van Langen and Murre were still side by side going through turn two before Van Langen pulled ahead down the back stretch. Murre climbed back up to Van Langen’s rear wheel, then wabbled it again, putting him back three or four bike lengths. Van Langen held on to take the win! It turned out to be a great weekend of racing at Aztalan short track.... finally. Lots of fun, smiles and close racing. Let’s just hope mother nature can be a little more kind the rest of the season so we get all out future races in!

Fosnock Supreme at LTM

ound Seven of the Fly Showdown Series heated up the Bomber Track at Lincoln Trail Motosports. With summer now in full swing this weekend gave the riders their first real taste of the hot summer weather. It also gave the track crew a challenge and they came through with flying colors, providing the racers good conditions all day. The weather wasn’t the only thing hot as the action on the track was exciting all day. With the hot weather you would think the riders would be doing whatever they could to save energy, drink lots of water, maybe cut down to one class etc. One rider that wasn’t on this page was Collinsville, IL’s 1989 250A National

Champion Billy Fosnock. Four classes “Foz” took on saying “I’m trying to get ready and prepare for my return to the National Championship.” In +40 Fosnock was being pelted with the roost of Yamaha rider Mark Smith in the first lap of the first moto. But on the second lap Fosnock was the one pelting the pack, taking the lead and charging on to the moto win. The always fast Smith stayed on the gas for second with the KTM of Chad Thompson third. In the second moto Fosnock jumped to the lead early and stayed there, taking the moto and overall wins. Smith was again second with Thompson third. In +30A Fosnock and Smith would again meet but this time the Fly Racing Kawasaki of Adam Wright was waiting. In the first moto Fosnock got to the front with Wright on his heels. Smith put his

Yamaha across the finish line in third ahead of the charging Matthew Schambach on his Suzuki. In the second moto Smith jumped into the lead with Fosnock, Wright and Kawasaki rider Josh Brooks in tow. On the second lap Fosnock made his move taking the lead to the end. Smith crossed the finish line in second for the moto as Wright finished third. In the +25A class it was as easy as 12-3 Fosnock took both moto wins and the overall ahead of Tyler Richey and Wright. With three classes down the one left was for sure going to be Fosnock's biggest challenge - in 250A. There was no way at over 40 years old Fosnock was going to win. The problem was nobody told Fosnock he wasn’t supposed to be that fast. In the first moto Fosnock flew to the moto win. Yamaha rider Tyler Richey was second with Parker Smith third. In the second moto Smith jumped to the lead with Richey second and Fosnock third. At a very fast pace the order remained the same at the end of the second lap. On the third lap Fosnock passed Richey. Smith was flying and set a pace unmatched by anyone, including Fosnock, giving him the moto win. When the scores were added up Fosnock did what he was not expected to, won the overall in the 250A. The results also show Billy Fosnock in the Open C. In fact it was Billy Fosnock's son and all the while, even after riding four classes, Foz was the proud dad going to the starting line and cheering on young Billy like all proud fathers. The +55 class faced off with riders that if they had District 17 legend awards, these riders would for sure be at the top of the list. Yamaha rider Orville Kline and Honda rider Roy Bittner have been doing battle for years and this day was no different. In the first moto Yamaha rider Mike Snider took the lead with Bittner in second and Lyndon Campbell third. Kline found himself in the back of the pack. For those that were there and especially those who rode, it will be remembered in legend for the EPIC mud. Sunday’s event was held in dry conditions although the track retained much moisture and worked into truly pro-like conditions with ruts and bumps galore. A major portion of Mount Martin was added for the Pro Track challenge. Mateo Johnson came flying off the line and looked to grab control of the first 250B moto but an early mistake dropped him back in the running order. Max Earley took advantage to

surge into the lead and pulled out a bit of a gap with Drew Slocum and Aaron Blackstone in pursuit. Johnson was on the move though and by the halfway point was in second and on Earley’s rear fender. He jammed his way into the lead before the white flag and pulled a four second gap by the checkered. Keegan Kleinwolterink absconded with third over Slocum and Tyler Finkeldey. Slocum snared the holeshot in moto two but Johnson rocketed into the lead pulling Brandon Yates and Kleinwolterink along past Slocum. Johnson solidified his lead while Yates and Kleinwolterink disputed second and Slocum ran a good pace in fourth. That order remained constant for the remainder of the moto with Finkeldey displacing Earley in fifth about mid-moto to set the last piece of the puzzle in place as they all continued on to complete the race. Aaron Boatman cranked on the throttle hard to lead the 250C class in moto one and ended up with a nice win over C class firebrand Brandon Dossett and local boy Austin Nelson. Casey Paider ran hard for fourth over Kole Lemcke. Dossett, probably in shock because he didn’t get the holeshot in moto one, regained his mojo and led the pack through turn one in the lead. Nelson had a good start and settled into second with Paider and Boatman holding the next two positions. Dossett was comfortable out front and led all the way with Nelson running about the same pace. Povolny ran a smooth fast pace out front and they could not mount an effective challenge, but shortly after mid-race Brough really brought pressure to bear on Adamson and shortly thereafter made the pass. unset Ridge was back in action the second weekend of July with some great racing and once again some changes to the track. There has always been a little track in the works mainly for pit bikes in the back of the property. It has now been transformed into a really fun 50cc track which really helps out in several ways. It lets the races move at an even better pace and gives the young 50cc riders a more competitive track to race on. The Midwest has been pretty humid for the last month and today was no exception. Even with some summer heat, there was some really good races to watch throughout the day. Also this weekend we had Wyatt Matteson coming back to Illinois from a recent move to California to get in some prep before Lorettaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s. This brought on a fun bonus race between him and Krystian Janik in the Mini classes which everyone was watching while they pushed each other around the track every single lap. They happened to be in different classes so there was no official racing happening, but it was a ton of fun to watch especially their photo finish on the second moto. On the tail end of the first set of motos, the 250B class was on the line ready to get things started. The gate dropped to Paul Law out of Mount Carroll IL taking the holeshot followed by Andrew Ramsey and Ben Ibianskas. As the group funneled through the first turn heading up the hill Conner Burger turned on the heat and got around Ibianskas to take over third. It wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t long before Ibianskas got moving and made a pass before the table top to get back into third and keep a close eye on the front. Up front there was a constant battle the whole race with Ramsey right behind Law. Right at the end of the last lap Ramsey got around Law with five turns to go. Law now had to make something happen quick. Law did just that on the very last turn before the finish line to come across in first, leaving Ramsey second and Ibianskas in third. 16

Pushing through to the table tops Rybak was on the pipe making some passes all the way up third place as he went by Tornow. In the first moto it came down to the last lap with Reese Miller taking the win followed by Nick Inman and Blake Copeland.

The second moto was on the line late in the afternoon. Ready to get it underway was Blake Copeland taking the holeshot. He was getting chased by Miller in second and Inman third as the three stayed close the entire race. They came out of the back side of the track with Inman now in second and pushing the envelope hard. Copeland was pushed out wide and into third as Inman took over out front. Inman continued to lead with Miller in particular, pushing to get up front and secure his overall. On the

last lap Miller found a good line on the inside with just enough room to get back to the lead and stick it there for the finish and the overall win. The rest of the group finished in the exact spot as moto one as well, giving second to Inman. It was an action packed day out at Sunset Ridge as always, with the track always being tweaked and improved every time I make it out here. The program today clicked right along without a hitch and everyone was out of there early enough to enjoy the rest of a great summer weekend. Sunset Ridge will back in action late September with a big D17/ Pro-Am weekend. They are always running practice days for everyone to come get some seat time at this great facility as well. Baraboo, Wisconsin - July 15/16 By Kevin Huber

uly 15th and 16th was District 16’s Wisconsin Observed Trials Association (WOTA) event on Mountain Road in Baraboo. This year I was the Trialsmaster. I spent over a week in Baraboo with my camper so I could work on the sections. Several members showed up the Saturday before the event to help as well. With all the weeds to trim and brush to clear this help was welcomed. There were eight different sections for each day of the contest. Baraboo is known to be a difficult event to ride due to the numerous rocks, but always draws a good group that are up for the challenge. This year there was a good turnout from Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. Saturday’s sections did have some slippery areas, but most of the sections had good traction. The sections were more difficult than at some of our events, resulting in one rider jokingly stating that I should be careful and not walk down any dark alleys. Sunday’s sections were designed to be shorter to 20

help finish in the shorter allowed time, but they had some more difficult obstacles. This resulted in higher scores. In Trials scoring is based on how many mistakes you make, so low score wins. Even with the high scores, there were smiles on many of the rider’s faces as they enjoyed the challenge. On Saturday some small sections were built in the pits for the young kids to play on. Participants were Ivan Misek age 5, Veronica Misek age 7, Cooper Johnson age 6, Seth Smage age 7, Jade Smage age 3, and Anna Smage age 9. They had fun showing their riding abilities with their small electric trials bikes and Stryders. pper Michigan’s X-Mas Motosports Park gave riders and race fans three days of racing action by adding Friday night racing this year. The X-Mas track hasn’t seen Friday night racing in over a decade. The July sun managed to hang in the sky until well after 9 o’clock giving plenty of time to run a one moto format race which was a great way to get a feel for the new track before going into Saturday’s races. John Anetsberger and crew put a lot of elbow grease in for their opening AMA weekend by giving the facility a fresh look. If you haven’t visited X-Mas Motosports Park since last year, you’d find that the entire facility has had some changes. The track is now running the opposite direction, there’s new grass throughout the pits and there’s a fresh black dirt/mulch mixture covering the track. The start, which used to be a drag race to the uphill, is now a small chi-

cane before getting a run at the hill. John and crew also added two woods sections, one having a large step up in and out of the woods onto the track. For a summer that has been unusually

rainy in the U.P., you couldn’t have asked for a better sunny Saturday. Each of the classes on Saturday put on a great show with separate battles all the way from the front to the back of the pack. One group of riders really mixing it up was the combined class of +25A, B/C, and Sportsman B/C. +25A rider Ben Bernard pulled the holeshot, with the top two B riders Derek Busse and Logan Poupore close behind. Bernard, Busse, Poupore pulled away from the field, eventually gapping each other as well. The rest of the +25B class ran as a tight pack led by Michael Bukovich. Moto two started with Busse out front early until Bernard of +25A made the pass for the lead before the first lap was up. Behind the top two, Trevor Edwards was leading Sportsman and had Chad St. Amour and Logan Poupore of +25B close behind. Poupore CYCLE USA, August 2017

went down early leaving St. Amour with second place for the reminder of the moto and Nick Hess in third. On the last lap of the race Busse caught back up to Bernard and exchanged the top spot until Busse ultimately reached the checkers first. Rounding out the top five for +25B were Brandon Revolinski and Michael Bukovich. 250B wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t the biggest class of the day, but was definitely one of the fastest. Marco Gravedoni grabbed an early lead ahead of John Adams and Jonah Dowd. Adams was able to pull away from Dowd just as Hayden Anderson worked his way into the mix. Anderson pushed closer to Dowd and jumped past him on the step up before going down, giving Dowd third place. Gravedoni took the moto win with Adams and Dowd behind him. Moto two, Gravedoni found himself out front again and this time it was Anderson behind him who put in a solid second place ride leaving him with fourth overall for the day with 7-2 finishes. Dustin Laplant also put in a good day with a consistent 4-4 for third overall. 250A and 2 Stroke also dropped with

250B and were able to work their way throughout the field as well. Brady Schernick ran behind Gravedoni and Trevor Edwards of 2 Stroke was able to work his way from the second drop through the B riders to catch Schernick at the end of the race. The last class of the day was that of 65cc 7-11 and these young boys really know how to get some speed behind them. In a class of all KTMâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s, Deegan VanVreede put his bike out front pulling away from the rest of the field. Logan Kresal and Jace Miller were also putting down good lap times and had the second and third positions locked up. The top four of moto two finished the same as moto one with Daylon Teddy in

nally decided to let us ride dirt bikes in the Midwest, and this Saturday was no exception. Everyone was out and ready for some great racing, and the track was looking awesome tonight. There were several lines in the some of the tighter corners to give more passing options, which resulted in plenty of good races to keep everyone at the fences. This was the last race before an extensive break out at Megacross for five weeks. The track will be better than ever in August and ready to keep things pushing right through the end of the season. The races delivered a lot of tight battles all night. It all started in +25A with the gate dropping to Kyle White running out front with the holeshot, leaving Jonathon Six and Brian White right on his trail. Into the second corner Six was already on a mission

that would carry through the night with Kyle White and Six fighting tooth and nail every race they were in. Six held the lead now. Everyone was keeping pace up front with Chad Johnson moving into the mix as well. Coming down to the wire Kyle White finally made a move right in front of the finish line to take over the lead for the last lap. They crossed the line with Kyle taking the win, Six in second and Brian White keeping it in the top three to end a great race. 85Sr was yet another race to keep an eye on tonight. To start the race off it was Lucas Geistler on the KTM jumping out front followed up by Kevin Huddleston and Kash Schnowske. Working through the first couple turns into the whoops Dave Frawley got into the mix taking third, but only briefly as Schnowske mounted a push forward. Up front Geistler was riding smooth and hitting his lines trying to pull a gap on the pack. Schnowske was on the rails looking for room and finally pushed to the outside to take over second with Huddleston not going to back down. After some intense moments out there in the lap traffic Geistler took the win. Rounding out the podium was Schnowske and Huddleston in third. The Womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s class was good racing tonight as they took off the line later in the evening. It was the #122 of Ashleigh

Schneider and Dickinson were pushing hard for three laps when Dickinson tried to take an inside line on them. While being a risk vs reward situation, Dickinson didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have enough room to get through and went down. This opened the door for Jordan Mackiewicz who was running in fourth to cruise around the outside into second while Peterson was held up. On the last lap, Peterson had an unlucky break and went down in a corner moving Austin Beaty into third as the race came to a close with Schneider taking the win. It was certainly a great night of racing as always out at Megacross. Everyone was coming in on a Kyle White topped all three of his mission tonight which classes; +25A, 250A and Open A.

here’s nothing better than spending a long holiday weekend surrounded by friends and family, especially when the weather is as nice as it was. With the Fourth of July on a Tuesday, that meant for an extra long weekend full of activities. Of those who chose racing, Brandon Brotzel hasn’t been to the Staples track since 2013. It wasn’t one of his favorites back then but he decided to give it another try. Because of the changes it was now a favorite and that gave him a world of confidence in the +30C class. In the first moto he got a pretty bad start in the back. The whole first lap he continued to struggled. Come second lap though, those mistakes were put aside and he had found a nice groove, moving up to third behind Nicholas Erickson. Part way into the third lap, Erickson blew a corner which allowed for Brotzel to make a pass for second. Branden Osen, in the lead wasn’t far ahead and Brotzel was able to catch him. Both were quick down the straights but Osen had Brotzel in the corners. Osen

was able to stay ahead and take the win. In the second moto, things went even better for Brotzel. This time he pulled the holeshot and was able to stay up front the whole moto. Behind him, Erickson and Osen battled for second. Osen remained a little faster in the corners and managed to hold it to the end. Brotzel took the overall (2-1). “Dale and the Kadlec family did a great job at keeping the track in great shape,” said Brotzel. He looks forward to coming back again for the next race. In the 85cc 9-11 class there was an outstanding number of riders on the line. Among them was Kona Rodrigues. Over Trisha Olson holding her ground in 250C.

the past few years this rider has really improved and stepped up his game. In the second corner of the first moto three of the bikes got tangled up. Rodrigues was caught behind them but quickly able to get around to pass two more riders in the rhythm section. At this point he was in fourth. Half way through the third lap, Rodrigues was on Zach Crider’s rear tire. The pass wasn’t going to be easy as Crider was picking some smooth, fast lines. It took two tries, but Rodrigues was able to get on the inside and make a pass through the rollers. Although Rodrigues was unable to catch second, he felt really good about

his third place finish. New London, MN’s Avery Long and his brother Braden finished first and second. Crider and Karsen Omann finished out the top five. In the second moto, Rodrigues had a better start in the fourth. Right away two kids made a pass on him but that didn’t get him down. One of those tipped over in a following corner. Crider was the other rider that got past. Rodrigues passed him back to re-take fourth. The Long brothers were out front once again. Dustin White was having better luck compared to his first moto where he finished back in tenth. Running in the third with Rodrigues behind, the battle was on. Rodrigues did a good job and made his presence known. The same section the Rodrigues had made the pass on Crider in the first moto was the sweet spot to yet again make the pass for third this time. Avery Long took the win ahead of Braden. Rodrigues was happy with the race, “Dale always does a good job at making and prepping the tracks. He gives them a good flow and plenty of room for clean passing.”

On this long holiday weekend people were happy to be out racing with their extended race family. Regardless if someone got first or third, it was another amazing weekend for the books with plenty of memories made. he summer has been moving right along with so many races going on across the area. This weekend at Motosports Park turned into a great one. The morning was certainly on the muddy side with a good amount of rain overnight. The races went forward with no more rain on the way and the track drying all day. The first motos were certainly a bit of an exhibition to test everyoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s skills riding in slick conditions. By the time second motos started the track was really nice and we even had a little dust kick up. It is some great experience to ride in the mud as tough as it may be. The riders that can excel at keeping it on two wheels will have a very clear advantage. Early on, the Open C riders wasted no time getting some great racing going. The first moto dropped to Jake Luchini getting out front with the lead followed by Steven Minkus and Randy Gauger. They all pushed early as the battle for third was already getting heated. Briefly Spencer Cruthis made it into third only to have Troy Bandy sweep the inside to take over the spot. Up front Luchini was holding his lines, and keeping out of the slick spots. Minkus was being cautious of the conditions, while still putting pressure on Luchini trying to force a mistake or find a way around. Coming down the hill to start lap three Bandy tipped it over in some slick mud while Seth Sirko went around into third, but he was a little too far away to put any moves on the front. The first moto came to a close with Luchini 32

taking the win. In the second moto Minkus battled back to take the win and the overall, this

gave second to Luchini and Sirko third. 65Jr was next to catch our attention, putting on a great show while the track still had a few soft spots. Coming off the line was Peter Parenti out of Palos Park, IL taking an early lead with Nate Bierbom dropping in behind him as they cleared the second turn. The battle for third was getting intense already as Tristan Dalton turned up the pressure and came away with the position after several turns. The charge was on for Dalton as he moved up to second coming down the hill to finish the first lap. Parenti was running his own race and starting to pull away from the pack when suddenly Bierbom went down, giving third over to Kallin Thomas. They crossed the line with Parenti taking the win, Dalton in second and Thomas third. In the second moto Parenti took the win again sweeping the class. Dalton finished in second while Bierbom crossed third after the unfortunate DNF in moto one. +40 was stacked today and everyScott Rhoton the +50 class. one was putting in some really hard laps. Heading down the start straight it was Randy Julseth jumping to the front to get away clean with the holeshot. Chasing him down was Everett Dahlberg and Thomas Wolf. Dahlberg was on a mission today wasting no time getting into the lead through the sweeper leaving Julseth in second to fend off Wolf now. As they came out of the back of the track Paul Molkentin had moved into third, fighting through the mud. Molkentin got around Julseth only to go down before the finish line on the third lap. This put Julseth back to second and now Roy Nafzger into third. After a Luke Jackson went 2-3 for great race and a lot of tight third overall in Schoolboy 1.

Molkentin took the win for moto followed by Dahlberg and Nafzger. This actually gave Dahlberg the overall as Molkentin finished fourth in the first race. The day came to close out at Motosports Park much better than it started, with the track turning out really nice as it dried up. If you are one of those that stay home on days after it rains... just stop. You are missing out on some of the best racing around. Whipple takes another OA Spragueville, Iowa - July 9 By Austin Wells

ound 7 of the 12-round WFO Promotions Hare Scramble series (also part of the AMA District 17 Championship) was held at Hansen’s Hollows in Spragueville, IA. With rocky, hilly terrain, this venue is much different than the rest of the series. 153 riders of all ages and skill levels came out to brave the hot, humid and dusty weather. In the 50cc 7-8 class, Austin Burns took the win aboard his KTM. Brady Dillbeck and Jack Allgeyer finished 2-3. Davin Shike won the 65cc Beginner class over Jake Hasten and Cameron Walker. Easton Morgan continued his winning ways, topping the 85cc class. Lake Plowman and Kyle Walker, both aboard Kawasakis, rounded out the podium. Buddy Fortune, out of Sterling, IL took the Supermini class win over Trevor Keogh and Tyler Whipple. ond ahead of Anisa Johnson. Keegan Minnaert won Open C on his KTM, topping Miro Tuska and Gavyn Williams. Cody Bollinger was the top dog in the AA class, but Open A rider Tanner Whipple, who started in row two - thirty seconds behind, took the overall win. Whipple got the holeshot and fought through most of the AA pack on lap one. He would battle with 2nd place AA rider Colten Zuidema for most of the hour and 45 minute race, pulling away to stalk Bollinger with a few laps to go. Bollinger made a small mistake and the race was on. Even though in different classes, Whipple and Bollinger traded the overall lead a few times before Whipple got away and finished with a 25 second lead. Add in the 30 second difference in start times and Whip-

ple took the overall win by nearly a minute. Whipple, “My race started great. I got the holeshot in the second row and I started pushing early to catch some of the pros in the front row. I worked my way through three or four before coming into the checkpoint on lap one and I was feeling great. I passed a couple more and rode with Cole Zuidema who was in second in AA for most of the race. On the third to last lap, my dad told me there was only 20 seconds between me and the overall leader. I pushed and caught Cody by the end of that lap. We battled for a lap until I was able to take the lead and never looked back. I’m super happy with how the weekend went and I’m very excited to get my second ever Overall win.” Bollinger extended his points lead in AA with contenders Austin Wells and Colt Converse dropping out with bike issues. Zuidema finish second in AA and Ryan Moss aboard his Woodstock KTM finished third. In the Open A class, behind Whipple,

Also there was an additional open class you could sign up for staging a 20 minute single moto ran at intermission for plenty of track time. Friday night the rains missed the facility and all the racers awoke to a bright and sunny day and things started shaping up nicely. The ruts and soil would soon tack up and eventually water would probably be needed of all things. The first big moto of the day was the 250C class and it was the #25 KTM bike of Gabe Rasmussen from Oconto, WI with the holeshot and early lead over the twenty-one rider pack. Carson Gerroll on his Yamaha from Two Rivers WI was hotly contesting the lead at the end of lap one. Riders were starting to spread out some, but the leaders were in a heated battle. Following them it was were Brody Gallagher, Michael Youngthunder, Ry Baumann and Tristan Alloway. At the end of lap two Gerroll

was knocking on the door of Rasmussen for the lead, putting on heavy pressure. Going down the front straight Gerroll set up for an inside pass in split rhythm section and was able to make the pass stick before the first set of whoops. Meantime, Tristan Woolf made a few passes and was working his way through the pack, hopefully into the top five after a bad start. He still had the big pack of Gallagher, Youngthunder, Baumann and Alloway ahead. On the white flag lap, Gerroll put a little distance on Rasmussen who was solid in second. Battling over that third spot was Youngthunder, Gallagher followed by Alloway and the hard charging Woolf. At the checkers Youngthunder held off Gallagher and Woolf rounded out the top five after starting way in the back. Moto two again saw Rasmussen put his KTM out front as he was able to get around the tight left hand start. Baumann, Caden Damp, Youngthunder and Alloway were running up front through the first couple laps. At the end of lap two Rasmussen was starting to get some pressure from Baumann. Gerroll was in the mix with Damp and Alloway and quickly was a threat for the win as he and Baumann pushed passed Rasmussen. The Womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s class saw the #440 of Sierra Heindl grab the holeshot in moto one and ride a solid race to take the checkers over her main competition of Kendra Randrup. Kendra Tutt finished the moto in third ahead of Rachel Fuller and Bailey Schernick. In moto two Heindl went down hard and ended up hurting her hand, giving the lead and the overall to Randrup. Lake Mills, Wisconsin - July 9 The Aztalan Cycle Club

he July motocross at the popular Aztalan Cycle Club kicked off to another perfect start with great weather and a good showing in all the classes. The track had a little extra watering done before the warm dry day leading to a few soft spots in practice... just perfect for forming good lines and rutted corners for the motos that would follow. It was easy to see we were in for a fantastic day. Seymour, WI’s Brody Barth had his way in the 50cc 7-8 class, winning both motos. In the first moto, William Tucker kept him honest for the first three laps. Then as they started lap four, Tucker dropped out of the order with an eventual dnf. Hunter Morse spent most of the moto fending off Ryder Skodras, taking over second when Tucker dropped out. The last lap saw the efforts of Skodras pay off as he made the pass for second. Jayce Wolf ran a good race with Chase Blazek on his rear wheel all moto, finishing 4-5 ahead of Tucker Trapp. In the second moto Barth led all the way, but this time he had company most of the moto as Tucker returned and ran in

second all the way. Skodras finished third after getting the best of Morse, making the pass mid-moto. Blazek also picked it up a bit to flip moto results with Wolf for fifth overall. In the 50cc 4-6 class, using their own starting gate on top of the hill, Aiden Biersteker led each lap of both motos. Scoring was easy in this one as Brayton Wills quickly made his way into second ahead of Levi Gower in both motos as well. Once there they held solid ahead of

Devin Bares. Grant Pellmann went 5-6 for fifth overall ahead of Wyatt Ketterhagen’s 7-5 motos in the eleven rider class. The 125Jr class delivered some great racing as they often do. Cole Godfrey led most of the early laps with Seth Doeberlein all over his rear fender. Reid Runkel was there also, just ahead of Elijah Tetzlaff. As the moto progressed, Eddie Norred was on a mission, working up to fourth by the third lap. With a lap to go Doeberlein and Norred pushed into the front spots. As they raced to the plateau for the final time, Norred pulled next to Doeberlein and they were side by side. The battle continued to the final corners before the finish when Norred pushed his way into the lead for the win. Runkel finished fourth ahead of Tetzlaff and Justin Oehlhof. The second moto was far less dramatic as Norred wasn’t on the line, having been roughed up in another moto’s fall. Doeberlein got a much better start and led from start to finish. Best Time Works/ Rob’s Performance backed Doeberlein after the second moto win, “In the first moto Eddie Norred and I were battling the entire way to the finish line and it was the coolest moto I’ve ever had. We came together in one of the last corners and he got the win, but it was great. This moto I got the holeshot and just went away with it. The track is good and with the softer corners it really helps make more lines and for better racing.”

The order was set behind Doeberlein right away, Runkel, Godfrey and Tetzlaff filled the top four as Josh Bowman stepped it up to finish fifth. The +30A class saw Woodstock KTM’s own Kurt Jennison jump out front off the starts of both motos and never look back. Behind him there was plenty of position swapping, with Brad Johnson climbing into second each time. Marc Ottenad also used every lap of both motos to make up ground he gave up on the starts with his 125 Husky. It never came easy, but he went 3-3 ahead of Elijah Gorecki and Tom Ferguson in both motos. The +30B class had a nice group of Nate White celebrated his birthday in the +30B/C class, getting his first ever overall. Congrats!

eighteen riders on the gate for the first moto. Nate White turned his good start into a couple bike length gap early in the first lap as IL’s Birgit Schelkle fought past Brad Yde for second. Robby Laurin worked up to finish fourth, just ahead of Suzuki mounted Richard Wazny. Madison, WI’s White pulled a repeat performance in the second moto. White, “Today is actually my thirtieth birthday so it is my first day where I could race this class and this is the first time I’ve won an overall. I got off to good starts and ran good motos so it was perfect. I’ve been doing this for like sixteen years and it feels awesome to get my first win.” Happy birthday and congrats Nate!

Behind White, Schelkle dropped into second right away, this time with Jim Beckman setting an even better pace to hold third and keep it interesting right to the end. Yde worked up to fourth in the first lap where he finished ahead of Laurin and Wazny. Open C saw thirty-four riders take the gate drop. Out of a busy first corner, New Berlin, WI’s Tyler Sidders had his Kawasaki pegged for the lead ahead of Dillon Riemann, Deven Fell, Maxwell Mayer and Michael Youngblood. Half way though the third lap saw Fell now into second, and really pushing Sidders for that lead spot. Youngthunder was also looking pretty determined, now pressing Riemann for third. By the time they returned the back sand corner the lead group had shuffled with Fell now leading everyone. Sidders was back to third behind Youngthunder while Riemann held fourth. They held the spots to the end with Mayer finishing fifth ahead of Hayden Zurn. After finishing fourth in the first moto, Dillon Riemann was on fire in moto two. Riemann, “I got a decent start in the first moto but was passed by a couple guys and ended up in fourth. In this moto I don’t know how, but it came together. I got the start and knew if I slipped up at all I would have Deven (Fell) all over me. I think I held my breath most of the moto trying to hold onto the lead. The track is really nice and probably the best I’ve ever seen it.” Riemann held the lead all the way to take the win. First moto winner Fell worked up to second in the second lap but wasn’t able to pose a real threat to Riemann out front. He may have done

the math, knowing his 1-2 moto score was good for the overall win just the same. Youngblood put in another great ride for third ahead of Mayer and Sidders for third overall behind Riemann. Brock Noreen continues to make his charge towards the B class championships in District 16. Today he topped both motos in Open B. In the first moto, Tyler Vacala was out front until the third lap. Then Noreen who had worked his way past several riders, took over for good. Vacala rode well as he had some fast company knocking on his rear fender the last half of the moto in the form of Ronald Schmidt and Cody Richter. The second moto played out much the same, this time Noreen had a little better start. Behind him the next spot four spots filled with the same riders as moto one. Leo Tucker made the trip up from Illinois a good one as he jumped out front in the first moto of 65cc 7-11. It took him two laps to finally put a few bike lengths on Kaiden Snyder in second. Mean time, Riley Busse was third, never able to take a breath as William Tucker was constantly in his shadow looking for a clean line to try and make a pass. The order held to the end and the efforts of William Tucker kept up right to the end as well. 50Sr class winner Brody Barth finished sixth behind Gavin Templen. Leo Tucker, Snyder and Busse pulled the front three positions off the start of the second moto and held them through each lap. Behind those three, William Tucker had his hands full with Barth. The battled continued to the last lap where Barth found a way around Tucker for fourth. At the checkered flag the order was the same with Leo Tucker taking his second moto win of the day. Frank Weiss pulled the holeshot in the twenty-two rider +45 class first moto, just edging out Tom Ferguson in the corner. From there Weiss opened a small lead by the third lap. Moving up through the pack from seventh place was Brian McCanna, taking over third ahead of Mike Duclos. Jim Beckman was also advancing, sliding past Tim Boblin for fifth. The final laps saw McCanna’s charge continue as he grabbed second place ahead of Ferguson, while Weiss rode out front for the win. We’ve also hauled in clay for the jump faces and our remote watering system keeps getting tuned in even better so with a lot of work it is coming along well. We’re working hard and as a club it all goes back into making the facility better. We all love riding, so making this better is what we all want to do.” Anthony Edgerton quickly established himself out front in the 85cc 9-13 group, and simply checked out on everyone. Ryder Beth ran a lonely second place as he also left the close racing behind. Leo Tucker ran ahead of Brock Nowicki for three laps before Nowicki’s relentless attempts to move up worked, grabbing third place. Gavin Templen also had to work hard all moto for his fifth place finish ahead of Kaiden Snyder. The second moto played out much like the first, with Edgerton out front leading Beth, Nowicki and Tucker. This time Snyder got the best of Templen for fifth. The day ended early enough so everyone could enjoy some time around the pits with friends and family before making the trip home. ond corner Broc Today made a pass for the lead and the battle was on. Petrik stayed right on Today’s rear tire. Several times Petrik went inside in the bowl corners and was side by side with Today. On the last lap, things were getting heated and Petrik wanted to make a pass. In the bowl corner before the step up, Petrik went inside and pushed Today out. Petrik looked to have made a pass but Today being on a four stroke was able to pull a

lthough the X-Games were in Minneapolis for the first time, some chose to skip the event and go racing. Family and friends gathered from all over the northland and some even from Canada for the third round of the Echo Valley Motocross Series. With no rain in the forecast and sunny blue skies, why wouldn’t you want to go racing? 14-24B saw plenty of action. Josh Schaefer got a great start off the gate and pulled down the start on his Yamaha YZ450F but could hear Tommy Coon on his 250 twostroke behind. Coon was able to make a pass coming out of the off wooded area. Cole Hay wasn’t far behind and the three hit the table top all in a row. Coon came into the next corner and a hit some soft stuff which caused him to go down. Hay then showed his front tire a few times before making a pass for the lead. Schaefer could hear that two-stroke screaming behind him again. “I knew I had to ride smart Tim Ersbo celebrates his win with his daughter and take his lines away because I knew he was faster than me,” said Schaefer. The two battled for two laps before Schaefer made a small mistake which allowed for Coon past. Coon was able to catch Hay and take the lead as well. Hay fell in a corner which allowed for Schaefer to make a pass on him. This put Hay in third and Schaefer in second. Sophie Johnson let the boys have fun while she watched in the fourth position. Come second moto, the same three shot off the gate with another great battle in mind. Hay had the lead on Coon and Schaefer, but it didn’t take long for Coon to make a pass for the front spot. Schaefer took a good digger in the back section and Hay pulled away. Race eight of the day saw a great battle from start to finish in 250C. little more up the hill to stay ahead. The friends and family of the boys were cheering loudly as the boys came across the Leap of Faith jump in front of the grand stands. You knew it was going to be a race to the checkered, but didn’t know is that they would be catching up to a lapper in the final corner. Today made the choice to protect the inside line. Petrik stayed outside and went for the pass around the lapper. Petrik was able to get around the lapper then tried to move over not realizing Today was on his side. Today had no other option but to hit the side of the hill three feet from the finish. Today got up quickly and finished but had broken several spokes because of the impact as well his clutch lever. Bradley Smith battled with Shae Martin during the moto for the third spot. Seth Valento rounded out the top five. In the second moto Today pulled the holeshot. Petrik this time was able to get around Today shortly after the second corner.

â&#x20AC;&#x153;When Mitch has a open track in front of him, he just goes,â&#x20AC;? said Today. After making the pass, Petrik did just that and pulled away for the win with Today in second and Smith third. For Today, Echo Valley is his favorite track. He loves how well ruts form in the corners and finds it to have to some good jumps. He said that he felt pretty good the whole first moto with tons of confidence but the run in with the hill had affected him a little. After the first moto, an older gentleman came up to Today and told him that his battle with Petrik was by far the best one he had seen in years. Kensington Hare Scramble

Great attendance for the A/ B start

he newly formed Mid-West OffRoad Riders motorcycle club had a big crowd on hand with almost 400 racers and around 1000 people through the gate for the late June hare scrambles. Hosting their first Hare Scramble at Andes Tower Hills Ski Resort, racers were greeted on Saturday with a large camping area with plenty of room, concessions that you could order by phone and pick up and a hay ride through the cross-country ski trails. The fun filled family environment enjoyed by all that came up early to camp was a bonus as Sunday was the real reason riders gathered to conquer the trails that flowed throughout the hills of Andes. Although it was a beautiful day for racing, a dark cloud hung over District 23 as word spread that Dale Greenwald had passed away. Dale was an avid motorcycle rider and was instrumental in advancing the sport of off-road motorcycling as a founder of District 23 ARMCA for the AMA in Minnesota. A moment of silence and a special dedication to the National Anthem that Dale sang before all Norsemen events was given by Enduro 48

Starting off the day was the youth classes and after years of watching her big brother Chaz ride, Madison Herzog joined the Girls 9-15 class for her first race and did quite well. Starting in 4th, Herzog was able to battle her way to third place by race end. A great finish for her debut race. We look forward to seeing what the future brings for our newest racer. Aundrea Artmann took another win followed by Allison Siebenaler. The Premier class saw Rider Gerulli jump out front on the start, Caleb Sledd wasn’t as fortunate, founding himself in the back of the pack. It didn’t take Sledd long to work his way to the front and by the end of lap one Sledd had a two minute lead before going on to take the win followed by Gerulli and Travis Illies. Sledd had a breakout day with his first ever overall win. Sledd continued his perfect day by winning the Junior class as well. Rider Gerulli also competed in the Junior class placing a respectable second followed very closely by Tomas Brown. Bryce is Rauner ran away with the Pee-

Wee class as he took his third win on the year. Thomas Hansen and Cooper Anderson running 2-3 in both race and points are going to have their hands full if Rauner continues to ride with the confidence and the speed he has to this point. Seven of the top eleven C class riders came from the 200 class. Owen Farmer took the class win and his first overall C win. Showing up for the first time this year was Tanner Lokken and he took second in both class and overall. Hopefully Lokken can make it to the rest of the races and give Farmer some competition. Taking the final spot on the podium was Cruz Wahl, putting in his best race of the year for third 200C and fifth overall. The biggest class honors of the day went to Vet C. Running in his first year of Hare Scrambles Richard Robinson looks more like a veteran than a newbie, taking the top spot in all three races. Placing in the top 5 overall Robinson is definitely on his way to B class for 2018. Adam Weichelt entered his first race of the year took second. Richard Szyman fought his way up to third after finishing the first lap in sixth. Isaac Newport wasted no time advancing himself to B class after winning the C class overall at Meadow Valley. It’s good to see Newport challenge himself and not cherry pick for a championship. Rounding the first lap Newport found himself in the lead by one second over Dalton Kittock. Kittock got around Newport and ran away with first while Newport continued in second until the last lap when Noah Squires came from the back of the pack to spoil Newport’s debut. I’m sure a learning curve is in order for the longer courses and race times, but we will see big things from Newport in the future for sure. Open B had the fastest B rider on the day as Mason Kuechenmeister took the

race which is great for the sport. Hopefully we can get these riders to continue racing the whole series. An enjoyable day by all and by the chatter in the pits it seemed everyone enjoyed the course and had an exciting time. If you missed the race you can come out and enjoy the trails October 1st for a leisurely trail ride. Remember get out and volunteer. Great Night in Woodstock

perfect summer evening arrived for the mid-July installment of the Woodstock MX Series at the McHenry County Fairgrounds. Anyone paying attention to the news at the time was very happy to hear the racing was even happening. Flooding all through the area had roads closed, fields under water and far worse for many towns just north and east of the track. New drainage systems installed last season did their work and most likely saved tonight’s event. Under clear skies and a nicely cooling evening racing kicked off right on time. Following the heats, the main events started with the +40 riders. Kenosha, WI’s James Wehrman got a great jump off the line, leading everyone into turn one. Cutting under him, heat race winner Everett Dahlberg grabbed the lead down the track’s longest straight. Wehrman fell back a couple spots on the opening lap as Larry Bank then Steve Runkel went by. Runkel pushed his old CR500 hard to pass Bank mid moto to finish second behind Dahlberg, who opened up a decent lead. Wehrman finished fourth ahead of Frank Licastro. 250B always seems to have a group of young, aggressive riders out front. Tonight saw plenty of hard charging... beginning with Logan Rusk taking over the lead after Gage Pace went down hard

after washing his front wheel out in a bowl corner. Connor Burger ran in second behind Rusk, with Jacob Lorenz, Alex Peacock and Blake Bauer pushing the dual from behind. Bauer slipped past Peacock mid moto for fourth as Burger pounded away at Lusk. On the last lap, Burger tucked his 125 under Rusk and the KTM 250 for a successful pass and win. Sportland2/ TZR/ Answer backed Pace returned in the Open B class looking for

some redemption. “I’ve been training a lot and feel good on my new bike. I’m more of an outdoor rider but want to get some of this in to mix it up. I had a fall in 250 while leading so I was determined to keep it up this time. I got another good start and just pulled it off. The track is good so it was fun.” Pace put in solid laps for the win ahead of Blake Bauer and Cody Richter. Connor Burger finished fourth. Marengo, IL’s Brooke Kennebeck had a good night at the track. Not only did she ride in the 125Jr class, she topped the Women’s class after leading every lap of the main. Once out front she slowly pulled away for the win. Kaiti Pfaff was running well in second while Erin Pusateri was starting to put some good lines together, and positioning herself for a push ahead. By mid moto Pusateri latched onto Pfaff’s rear wheel and the race was on between the two KTM riders. After a couple close calls, Pusateri pulled off the pass and finished second. Taylor Stephenson finished fourth. Kennebeck after the moto, “It was fun, I ended up getting the holeshot and was able to open a good lead and ride well. I race out here all the time and it is nice tonight. I’d like to thank my mom and dad for all their help as well as everyone at Woodstock KTM.”

Wyatt Liebeck made the long trip down from up by Green Bay, WI as a new member of the Woodstock KTM team, making a big impression in 85 Open and 125Jr. After winning on the 85, he jumped to the front and never looked back in 125Jr. The youngster has some real talent. Behind Liebeck the Ward brothers worked up to second and third, having their own little battle for the runner up spot. Younger brother Garrett was doing his best to hold off Travis as the Megacross and Fox Valley Off-road regulars had ventured out for a weekend of visiting other tracks. In the end, on the last lap Travis made the pass into second. Ryder Beth finished fourth ahead of James Waldron. Liebeck, “I’m getting good holeshots and pretty much riding out front from there, so it has been a good night. It’s going good with the help of Woodstock KTM and everyone there is really nice. This is a good time and fun to do on a Friday night. It’s over three hours for us to get here and we are driving back north for a race at Wittenburg tomorrow, but this was fun.” The Open C class was split into two divisions again tonight with the great turnout of riders. In the main for C-1, several of the heat race top finishers went down in a five bike pile in the first corner. Out front and clear of it all was Erik Carlson, just ahead of Robert Feller. The two were close until the last lap when Carlson made a small mistake coming at the spectator jumps and Feller jumped past and into the lead. Feller, having finished second in the heat was happy with the win. Brad Sorenson finished third ahead of Mitchell Reich and Jake Luchini who managed to climb up to the lead pack after being part of the first turn mess. In the second division riders made it through the first turn without incident. Leading them all was Steven Minkus who had a great heat race also. Kyle Pratt ran in second early, before slipping to third as Tanyon Palka made a move for second setting the final order out front. Minkus, “I got into the lead after the first couple corners and just worked to pull away from there.

Palka when asked about it, “I felt really good out there even after the terrible start. I took every line someone else wasn’t using in front of me and just kept working up.
