mas Motorsports Park kicked off their 2019 race season with a double header weekend that included a Gran Prix race on Saturday and Motocross on Sunday. This isn’t the first time that the Xmas facility hosted a woods event, but it had been over fifteen years since bikes had gone racing through this part of the beautiful Upper Michigan forest. Track owner John Anetsberger wanted to bring woods racing back to Xmas for the love of the sport of woods racing. Anetsberger, “It’s really great to ride both disciplines and it helps with a rider’s skill level, not everyone is comfortable jumping or riding in the woods, so it exposed them to both in a great combination.” Anetsberger and the track crew worked many long hours prepping for the event with many trees to cut, brush to clear, and arrows to be put up marking the course to get it ready for the GP racers. The course started on the motocross track and included two separate woods sections, then ending again on the motocross track to complete a lap. When Saturday morning rolled around the pits had filled and the riders that were eager to get racing. The GP format consist ed of two 30 minute motos per class; classes were combined and dropped in waves. With the drop of the green flag the first group took off and the woods came alive with the sounds of 2-strokes, 4-strokes, squeaking breaks, lots of shouting and the occasional “woohoo!”. Hitting the track first was AA, led into the first corner by JD Friebel who would then be overtaken by John Vandezande and Colin Hass. The top three held position as they negotiated the second woods section before heading back to the moto track where Vandezande and Hass started to pull away from Friebel. The lead would change as the riders approached the sharp right turn into the first woods section as Vandezande went too wide, missing the corner allowing Hass to pass. Kyle Hameister led Friebel into the woods with Brady Schernick behind, who had closed the gap on the moto track. As the sound of bikes approached the woods exit, Hass still held the lead, but Friebel had made up ground and was right on his back tire with Vandezande close. Schernick managed to pass Hameister as had Pete Laubmeier. At the end of lap two, Vandezande had passed Friebel again and Hass still led the pack. Then Friebel went to work in the woods passing them both and coming out with a sizable lead. hit his shoulder on a tree causing him to go down. As the group entered the first woods for the final time, Friebel was running comfortably in first, and Hameister had moved himself into fourth place ahead of Schernick and Laubmeier where they finished ahead of Schernick, rounding out the top five. Moto two again began with Friebel getting to the corner first only to be passed by Hass and Vandezande. Once in the woods it changed and Friebel led them out and never looked back. The same battles from moto one would be revived between Hass and Vandezande. Laubmeier had passed Hameister in the woods on lap one, but Hameister made the pass back by doubling past him on the moto track with Schernick doing the same. Laubmeier again made the pass in the woods only to have Hameister and Schernick take position on the moto track. As the three kept swapping positions and pushing each other forward, they were able to reel in Vandezande and Hass by the end of lap three. As the race finished, Friebel was first to take the checkers followed by Vandezande. Schernick ended up fourth in the moto and Hameister sixth, but his 4-6 finishes would give him fifth place overall. Even the younger kids got to try out the GP race, running a shortened woods loop as it some of the smaller bikes could struggle

with the freshly unearthed tree roots. This shortened course allow the smaller bikes a few extra laps. As the 85 class raced away from the starting line, Lance Torp led the way followed by Hayden Schumacher and Jace Miller. As the trio got back onto the motocross track, Schumacher took lead away from Torp. Miller also made his way around Torp on the moto track. As they reached the woods section for the second time, Schumacher started to open a small lead. Travis Bloyer passed Torp at the end of lap two and rode in third place for the remainder of the race. At the half way point, Mason Kubis reeled in Torp for fourth. Moto two began with Rex Valek, Blayde Wallner, and Schumacher reaching the corner first. Schumacher quickly got out front and led the entire race. Bloyer and Valek ran second and third, but Miller was on a mission to move up. Also looking to make his way back into the top five was Torp. As the racers exited the woods the second time, both Miller and Torp had made their way well into the top five and Bloyer was no where to be found. By lap five, Miller was running in second. Kubis had managed to pass Torp and was headed for Valek and successfully made that pass as well. Torp also managed to catch Valek and made his pass stick by taking the inside line of the sweeping corner before one of the table tops. Torp finished the moto in third, giving

him third overall. The GP format gave each rider a chance to shine in their respective sport and the opportunity to try something new. As the day went on the course improved and changed as the tires dug down in to the dirt exposing tree roots and hidden rocks making a new challenge each lap. Riders described the track as exciting, manly, and awesome, but most importantly they said it was fun! Sunday began with the pits filling up with new faces ready for a day of motocross action. Riders and spectators would not be disappointed with the racing that took place. Eleven riders rolled up to the gates for the first moto of Open B and were led to the first corner by Vince Hughes and Joshua Nelson. Hughes started to pull away as the racers reached the first woods corner, and Antonio Gravedoni swept the outside of the sand corner past Nelson with Colin Hass making the pass moments later. Behind the top three it was Bradley Barrette and Nicholas Randrup. As lap one was reaching the first green flag, Gravedoni and Hass set their sights on Hughes, and Barrette passed Nelson. Hass passed Gravedoni, and Randrup was able to get around Nelson during lap two, but Hughes still held a good lead. Barrette, and Hass close behind. Gravedoni passed for the lead in the same spot he did in moto one. By the end of lap one, Hass passed Randrup, and Hughes was trying to break into the top five. Gravedoni and Hass raced for the lead, with Hass eventually overtaking Gravedoni. Randrup ran comfortably in third, and Hughes battled Barrette for fourth. Hass had pulled away, but with the pressure Hughes was putting on Randrup, they had managed to catch up to Gravedoni quickly and the race for second was on. As the three drag raced up the final hill towards the finish line Randrup tried to make an inside pass on Gravedoni, but ran out of room. Hughes tried to take advantage of this and attempted to sweep the outside, but was beat to the checkers. Hughes finished third overall and Randrup ended up fourth overall. The Women’s class had some of the closest racing of the day. The top seven were never more than a few bike lengths from the racer in front of them. These ladies showed just how determined they all were. In moto one Angeleah Gravedoni grabbed the

holeshot, but Falen Narel quickly made her way around and held on to first place until the end of the moto. Jersey Graumann tried to put the pressure on Gravedoni during lap two, but ended up going down giving third place to Makayla Peterson. Then Anita Watkins and Halley Halberg also joined the race for second place. Gravedoni went down on the final lap, leaving the door open for Peterson to finish in second with Wadkins in third, though Halberg had made a great effort to make a last corner pass on her. Moto two began again with Gravedoni out front. Narel took the lead once again and started to pull away from the pack, but the rest of the top six were within bike lengths of each other, trying different lines to gain advantage. Jersey Graumann would tried to sneak by Peterson, but Peterson wasn’t ready to give up third place and held on. The racers were still tire to tire as they made their way around the track for the final time. Graumann had fallen back to fifth, but then passed Watkins for fourth. down, which resulted in Halberg going down as well. Both shook off their fall and got up to finish the race. Overall Wadkins ended up in third, and Gravedoni finished fourth despite her seventh place finish in moto one. Mariah Lacount had two solid motos finishing fifth in each giving her fifth overall. Spectators were also treated to some fast A class racing as Nathen Laporte raced in +25A, Open A, and 250A. All of the A riders laid down some extremely fast laps and put on a great show for all to watch. District 16’s “Fan Favorite Track” two years running lived up to its expectations yet again by putting on another excellent weekend of racing in both the GP and Moto worlds. The Xmas crew continues to make improvements to the track and facility with more exciting changes to come. This track is always well worth your drive to the shores of Lake Superior for some of the best racing around. ummer has arrived and the sweltering temps decided to show up for the week prior and on this "13th" Saturday night of July. Ninety-five in the shade didn't melt the competition, but actually intensified it to the point of some pretty interesting situations that could have needed a little ice water therapy. In the summer time track conditions are controlled by the amount of water put on it, and in the heat mother nature decides how fast it dries. This night was a crap shoot with too much water on one side of the track and not enough on the other. Giving riders the rutty muddy straight away and a dusty section which was fixed later in the night. If your abilities were favoring one condition or another, you had to wait til that section! Scott Meshey came out with the Brian White Racing crew to try some Megacross for his first time. Early on in the Open A class heats he felt out the track and watched Tommy Hofmaster's lines, particularly the launch into the whoops from the wall jump. Learning quick and getting holeshots made Meshey's racing at a little easier. Hofmaster pushed Meshey in the final but a torn calf muscle slowed Hofmaster a bit after he over did his whoop jumping landing a little.

Meshey won 250A, Open A and 14/24A with solid rides all night. "Uncle Troy" Quest and his holeshot machine (KX450) was had some competition in the 40B/C class. Matt Carpenter was on a borrowed 125 and pushed Quest all night. Taking the heat win, Carpenter set the tone for the main event later that night. Anyone racing understands if you ride a "big bike" and have a pesky 125 hounding you it's some where between irritating and funny. That little bike is screaming to keep up but with the right rider it can pass and leave an open class machine in it's dust. Today Quest kept his lead in the final. Carpenter pushed hard and made it a close race but in the end the Quest was victorious. Speaking of which, Joe Quest, nephew of Troy decided to stay on his machine tonight and leave the crashing to his sister Sadie, who got good holeshots but some how managed to tip over here or there and give up a win or top five. The moon wasn't full tonight and Joe didn't get the holeshot in the stacked Open C class, that honor went to Greg Breckenridge. Joe snuck under Greg for a solid pass and kept his balance for the win just ahead of Breckenridge. Justin Heyde and Skyler Williams filled the podium. Jack Sparks swapped hard on the back straight, resulting in a pretty hard crash. He got up dusted himself off and said, that one

was scary, his front wheel said No Mas and he was done for the night. Normally this he would be in the hunt in this class as well. Now this is like the second or third time speaking of Rylen Hofmaster, he is headed to LL this coming up week in the 50cc 4-8 and 50cc Jr classes. He has set the tone all summer burning up the track and taking few prisoners, just as he did again tonight. More and more families are racing together again. Kevin Lee and the Lee Excavating Crew have been on fire this summer as well. Kevin winning the 50B/C class this night with Landon Lee pulling a second in 85Sr, and winning 85cc 9-13. Normally Landon doesn't have much for Ayden Oppenlander in the 85Sr class, but tonight Oppenlander didn't get the holeshot and had to push the entire moto to pass Lee. These two have improved a bunch this season. They rode indoors all winter like so many others here tonight. It was said the "best" racing of the night was in the 125cc class. It was another night where there were ten racers in the class, some new, and some not. Normally Hunter Billingsley would be here to stomp on the crew but he was sidelined with an injury giving way to the theatrics of the Ward boys. Travis,and Garrett were struggling for the bragging rights this night which the older is has five years more experience, is a little smarter on strategy, but the younger

is a bit faster. This all reared it's head on the last lap of the main as Garrett put a picture perfect pass on his brother, only to leave the door wide open on the second turn before the finish line and they came together falling in a heap, with all the drama of a well played show. Travis picked his brotherâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s bike off him, picked up his bike and finished with the win, Garrett finished third behind Noah Lee. Anyone who witnessed the whole race got a show, only thing needed was a good meal and it would have been complete. As normal we do special mentions, and tonight's event had a few. jamin Schmidt won 25B/C with his trusty woods bike. Jake Fabrizius has been able to twart Brent Johnson's ability to win a Megacross 30B/C class this year, thinking it's the only thing that keeps him coming back? Luke Jackson holeshot and won the Schoolboy class ... sticking around the whole night for the win! By the time you see this Megacross will be setting up for round 7, and it will be the Great River Shootout series event here at the stadium on August 17th. Then two weeks later Megacross will attempt another Fair race on the 31st. Lets hope mother nature doesn't play any silly games.

ound three of the AMA District 17 Enduro Series was held at Motosports Park in Byron, IL. Although it ran with a sprint enduro format, this event also paid WFO Hare Scramble Championship points, pulling in some big hitters from the hare scramble world to do battle with the enduro riders. Ryan Moss and the Forest City Riders Club laid out a great course for the weekend. Two tests were set up: a Cross Test that consisted of Saturday’s GP course - most of the motocross track, some open and flowing turns on top of the hill and a couple small sections of timber. the Cross Test in about 5-6 minutes. The second test was the Woods Test and consisted of nothing but timber and an endurocross section. Top guys completed the Woods Test in approximately 10-12 minutes. Each rider had to complete each test a total of four times and had anywhere from 11am to 3pm to do so. This new format is picking up steam and becoming more popular every year. “It’s fun. Definitely different. It’s cool to be able to sprint all-out for a lap, then take a breather and go do it again whenever you’re ready,” explained AA rider Colt Converse. The 50cc classes and the 65cc Beginner class raced on their own track for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes of racing, Cassie Fairfield brought home the win in the 50cc

4-6 class with Kayton Toal and Jhenner Walker finishing 2nd and 3rd. In the seven rider 65cc Beginner class, Cooper Lair, out of Alexis, IL took the win over Scott Creagan, Jr. and Logan Webb. The 65cc 7-11, 85cc, Supermini and Women all raced together on the Cross Test portion of the track. KTM rider Austin Burns stood atop the 65cc 7-11 podium over Cooper Duff and Jack Allgeyer. Regan Doerr finished 1st in the 85cc class with Ayden White and Cameron Walker finishing 2-3. Chelsea Fehring took the Women’s class win over Ashley Toal and Renee Christiansen. Riders started filling the pits on a beautiful breezy summer afternoon, with the track workers and equipment working hard on getting the track’s final prep completed. The gorgeous Jenneration MX board girls were greeting riders and fans as the excitement of racing was in the air. Opening night brought over 200 entries to the carnival of summer fun. The grandstands were filing early with fans ready to see a night of fast and exciting racing. Owen, Daniel Herrlein, Hunter Sayles, Cody Vanbuskirk to name just a few along with the local pros mixed it up for impressive shows each night. The first heat race for 250A had a stacked gate of fourteen talented riders racing hard to advance for the best gate pick for the Main. It was Tylor Skodras (WI) leading the first laps but some mistakes allowed Cody Vanbuskirk (IL) to take over first with Hunter Sayles and Jace Owen right behind. The action was so fast just the slightest bobble would give the advantage for the pass. In the Main front runners were different, it was Jace Owen (IL) running out front with Travis Sewell (IN) riding hard, but having to set-

tle for second just ahead of Herrlein. It was really great to see Herrlein back on the track after the recent loss of his father who was always there for him at the races. Vanbuskirk, “I ripped a great start in the heat race and went on to win. It was a great

classes and showed their love for the little moto riders. In the 50SR it was Tom Luberda (Willow Springs, IL.) pushing to make the pass on Levi Gower (Madison, WI.) and putting himself in the lead. Luberda earned himself the win for the night with Gower looking very fast earning second for the night. Ryder Salas (WI.) and Lincoln Paxton (IL.) diced it out for third before Salas locked the position in with Emmett Baker finishing fifth. Luberda, “I had a lot of fun with my moto friends. The track was awesome, my favorite parts were the rollers and jumps.” The fast action continued into the night and 250B was no exception with Deven Fell (Elkhorn, WI.) and Max Richter (Highland Park, IL.) putting the pressure on for the win. In the heat race it was Richter making some quick passes in the first lap to put himself in second, then eventually going on to take the win. The main event saw Richter in second off the start behind Fell. Richter was right on the rear wheel of Fell, pushing for the pass before spinning out on a jump face. Fell put in consistent, fast laps out front as Richter was only able to get himself back up to fourth by the end of the race. Nick Czechawicz finished second ahead of Ian Malinowski.

his is the 30th year the Doll family has hosted a WOTA trials event, and Saturday evening there was a dinner provided with chicken, potatoes and tons of desserts. Thank you Doll family! Remember that Brutal and Hot weekend in July? That was the weekend of this event. It was 95 and humid and there were huge masses of gnats in the pits, but in the woods it wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t nearly that bad. The weather scared away some riders and they missed some really fun sections. Definitely their loss. Ben Ezell kept his winning streak going in the Novice class with a twelve point win over Kris Tibor. After the event I saw Ben pouring water over his head so I know he was spent. After the first loop Tibor was leading 5 to 6. On the second loop it started to rain, and it rained pretty hard for about twenty minutes, then cleared up. Ezell had a two point second loop and Tibor had seven. On the third loop in the slippery sections Ezell had 20 points and Tibor had 28. The Youth class saw Ivan Misek win. I think they must have finished before it rained as the loop scores didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t increase much, Ivan had 6,10,11. Sister Veronica Misek was second, three points behind.

Kaspar Tibor was another four points back. Adam Gustafson is on a roll and he won Intermediate again with 34 points. Fred Sassi was just one point behind. Spencer Stone had a career best third place finish, three points behind Sassi. Mark Misek and Myles Saigh tied for fourth Misek winning the tiebreaker. Doug Hay and Kyle Hatch had the battle of the day. Both had fourteen point first loops, then matching twenty point second loops. They came into the final section of the day, a man made one that consisted of telephone poles and large tractor tires still tied. Hatch rode first and got three points. Hay then rode Ben Ezell won the Novice class both days knowing he only needed a two or better to win, taking one point to secure the win. Warren Lange rode his new Sherco 250 to third and Rob Walters came from Iowa and finished fourth. Sunday was nice, 80 degrees and a little cloudy. Jason Waldo beat Will Check in the Champ class. Keith Johnson won Expert. Ralph Littlefield showed up for Sunday rested and refreshed and he rode silky smooth to the Advanced class win. Kyle Hach and Doug Hay tied for second with Hach winning the tie breaker. Wade Murphy-Price was fourth and Rob Walters rode to fifth. Joseph Gomez slithered through turn one as he grabbed the Dunlop holeshot award for moto one in the Open A class. Josh Boaz and Jake Loberg were on the gas and quickly took over the top two spots early in the first lap as they took off in a battle of their own. Loberg took the lead from Boaz on lap two with Gomez hanging on to third, but under pursuit by Aaron Smith. Loberg led for the next couple of laps with Boaz pressuring until finally Boaz slipped into the lead when Loberg was held up by a lapped rider. Boaz pulled out a couple of seconds by the time they hit the checkered a short time later. Chase Becker managed to snare third from Gomez late in the moto with Smith trailing them in fifth. Loberg broke out his holeshot mojo for the second Open A start and led the pack around turn one, then pushed hard to build a gap through the first couple of laps. Boaz did close up a bit, but it wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t enough to catch the flying Loberg and the checkered flew with Loberg still a good gap out front for the win. Becker took third with Dawson Kaub and Smith in tow. Colton Exner jumped out to an early lead as the 14-24B class hit the track for their first moto. Dalton Hein and Levi Dertien dueled over second for the first lap or two

before Dertien got a solid drive through the whoops to cement his hold on that position. Then he began to make up ground on Exner, closing in and preparing to launch his bid for the lead only to mess up right before the Chadapult jump. Exner closed out the moto with a win while Dertien held on to second over Hein. Tommy Olson and Cole Prichard ran in for the checkered after battling each other all the way to the line. Prichard led most of the first half in moto two with Dertien and Daniel Peters giving chase. Dertien had the pace though and took over to lead almost all the way to the finish, as he crashed within sight of victory. Prichard and Peters quickly were by before Dertien could right his bike so he finished third over Evan Payer and Hein. However, the overall win still went to Dertien by virtue of his 2-3 score over Prichardâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 5-1 finishes. Wyatt McGrath was the dominant rider in the 85cc 12-15 class as he roosted out of the pack to take big wins in both motos. Cooper Abbett ran a good race to hold second over Jeff Rinkel in the first moto with Brodie Boumeester and Tate Olson rounding out the top five. Boumeester returned stronger in moto two and held second at the checkers with Payer, Rinkel and Jaxon Nagel crossing in the 3-4 and 5 positions. Holeshot master Garret Becker fired his 125 into the lead as the Open C class attacked the track in their first race. Becker held on for two laps but Wisconsinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Elijah Tetzlaff caught him mid-moto, taking over at the front of the field. Tetzlaff ran in for the win with about a five second gap by the flag. Becker was safe in second with Dylan Knoch coming up for third over Evan Christian and Luke Vanlyssel. Tetzlaff sped into the early lead of moto two, then cruised in for a dominant win. Becker managed a solid second place finish again with Vanlyssel improving for a third. Knoch crashed out while looking competitive again and Christian took fourth over Andrew Clark at the finish line. he Western Wisconsin motocross track in the bluffs of the Mississippi River Valley hosted a District 16 point’s race weekend June 30th. Riders started showing up Friday afternoon for an open ride on Saturday and before Sunday’s race. The heat index was 100 degrees on Saturday for the open ride. Thankfully the sun was out to help dry out the track from the storm that hit Thursday night. Riders eventually got plenty of track time as the track crew did a great job making it rideable. Practice Sunday morning, the track was absolutely mint however as the last session ended the skies opened up and dumped a ton of water on the facility. Riders waited

out the wind, lightning and rain. Decision was made to try and run as much of the day as possible. First moto of the day was Two Stroke B/C and 125cc class combined. Justin Oehlhof won the moto, Jake Hunger took second followed by Tristan Wolfe and Kyle Kohls. This class was able to run two motos and Oehlhof won the overall in the 125cc class and Hunger took the overall in Two Stroke class. Frank Weiss pulled the +40A holeshot and at the end of the first lap had Andy Bowman and Tom Ferguson in tow. Bowman and Ferguson were putting the pressure on Weiss for the lead but were eating a lot of roost. Riders were having a hard time keeping the bikes on two wheels as the clay was quite slick. Bowman eventually gave

up the number two spot to Ferguson as vision became a problem. Ferguson who finished second and brought home a lot of mud as a souvenir, “I like all the extra mud on my bike and body as the weight helps keep me centered in the ruts (said with a big smile).” Weiss returned to win the second moto as well. Ferguson once again grabbed second as Samuel Stejskal got the best of Bowman for third in the moto and overall. Andy Walters grabbed a good start in +40B/C to lead Jason Boebel. Troy Fisher was trying to grab the number two spot coming down big downhill and tipped over at the bottom. Boebel ended up making the pass for the lead and took the moto win over Walters, Richard Eyolfson, Steve Lubahn and Mark Jorgensen.

The second moto was a good one. Boebel wanted the win and overall but Walters had other plans and he redeemed himself with the moto win and the overall, going 2-1 over Boebelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 1-2. Eyolfson was consistent in third followed by Jorgensen who went 5-4 for fourth ahead of Heath Bergeron. 250C was the biggest class on the day with nineteen riders. Getting a good holeshot was important for sure to get out front and hopefully stay as clean as possible. KTM mounted Dylan Knoch power slid his way into the lead in the first corner and led the pack around the course for lap one. It was almost impossible to tell who anyone was after one lap as everyone behind the leader was completely covered in mud. Second place was Kayleb Pilman and behind him a couple riders were trading positions for the rest of the top five in the moto. At the checkers it was Knoch followed by Pilman who was right on his tail, making it interesting right to the checkers. Jaydon Nyeggen took third followed by Jordan Jovonovich, and Kollin Kadinger. Senior +50 had a good number of ole wiley vets show up for the gate drop. Weiss pulled another holeshot and led the pack through the first lap ahead of Ferguson, Tim Bares, Guy Rex and Tom Brunt. With clear vision, Weiss checked out, leaving the rest to battle over second which Ferguson held on to. Bares ran in third ahead Rex and Richard Becker who moved into fifth at the checkers. The 51cc 7-8 riders had a tough time navigating the tricky track with their little bikes. Moto one it was Levi Gower with the win over Brayton Wills. Jett Wolf was third followed by Devin Bares and Kodie Kadinger. Moto two was able to run just before the skies opened up and this time Wills got a good start and took the moto win and overall. Gower finished second ahead of Wolf. Kadinger moved up a spot to fourth, trading spots with Bares. KB5 Suspension Dash for Cash at intermission had a $1000 purse with $700 going to the winner. Ryan Orres on his Honda jumped out to an early lead. Colton Karl was in second followed by Colton Benz and Kyle Koosman while Collin Reinhart made some moves up into the fourth place. At the checkers, Karl closed hard on Orres and took the win. Koosmann finished third with Reinhart in fourth. Unfortunately, after intermission they were able to run two motos and then the skies opened up again leaving the club no option but to call it a day. They made every effort possible to make it a great event. way up to the front and got around both riders. Kole Olson moved up the charts and

antasy Moto put on a District 16 points race weekend. 200 plus entries started rolling in Friday afternoon for an open ride on Friday, and a Yamaha/ Kawasaki contingency race on Saturday. After Saturdayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s racing finished up in the afternoon, the highlight of the day was the giant slip & slide that was set up in the pits with a large turnout of sliders looking to get a little reprieve from the warm weather. The once a year Wittenberg event delivers more fun every year. Sunday racers were greeted with sunny skies and another hot day. The Open A class started off the morning and it was Jake Vaness with the holeshot followed by Josh Philbrick. Nate Laporte showed up on a Yamaha YZ125 and was looking to just stay in the mix against the big bores. Lap two Philbrick moved into the lead with Vaness, Laporte and Kyle Hameister in tow. At the checkers, Philbrick took moto win, Vaness second, Hameister pushed Laporte hard and got around him as they were on Vaness. Second moto had Philbrick dive quickly into the lead followed by Hameister and Ty Tyrrell. On lap two Vaness got around Tyrrell for third. As the moto went on, Philbrick pulled out a comfortable lead followed by the rest of the pack now closing on second place Hameister. On the last lap the battle for second was tight but Hameister held on. He went 3-2 for second overall behind Philbrick. Vaness was third followed by Tyrrell and Laporte. positioned himself into third. Kendall Biever slid into fourth followed by Dane Klinger. At the checkers it was Liebeck, and Randrup 1-2. After the moto, Randrup said it was nice to get out front early but he knew Liebeck would get by quickly. Liebeck has been putting in the work and he is hoping for a top finish this year at Lorretta Lynn’s. Randrup had a bad start in the second moto and wasn’t able to take advantage of being out front while Liebeck took command of the moto and won by ease. Klinger had a better start and moved into the number two spot at the finish and his 52 gave him that second overall spot. Biever took third in the moto and his 4-3 gave him the bronze. Olson went 3-4 for fourth and Randrup salvaged fifth with his 2-8 scores. Open C first moto saw Brandon Martyniak take off on his Kawasaki and lead from start to finish. Easton Block took advantage of a good start and ran in the number two position ahead of Dustin Erickson, Kayleb Pilman and Reed Klinger. Second moto, Block got out front with Reed Klinger and Kayleb Pilman in tow. Fourth place was Erickson. Throughout the race Klinger was doing everything he could to find a line to get around Block. At the checkers, Block held his ground to take the win over Klinger and Pilman. Erickson finished fourth. Martyniak opted not to ride the second moto leaving the door open and it was Block who took advantage with his 2-1 scores to win the class. 250C was another big class with twenty entries. Reed Klinger went down in the start and had his work cut out for himself with a pretty stacked field. At the end he had moved all the way up to the front spot and his 1-1 scores gave him the overall. Dustin Erickson was solid with 3-3 scores to garner the runner-up spot. Pilman went 5-2 for third. Schoolboy class had some interesting results as

Easton Block took the win going 1-2. Jake Hunger went 2-4 for second ahead of Ayden Price who finished 4-3. Drake Dionne was fairly consistent with his 3-5 scores besting the second moto hard charger Josh Bowman who went 8-1 for fifth overall. The Women’s class also had a couple shake up’s each moto. Moto one Desirae Steier took the moto win over Sierra Heindl, Dana Hanna, Brooke Philbrick and Mariah Lacount. In moto two though, a few of them went down as the Fantasy Moto track crew had just watered prior to the moto to try and keep the dust down from the high heat and sun beating on the track all day. Hanna was able to navigate the track the best and her 3-1 gave her the overall. Heindl would go 2-3 for second beating Philbrick’s 4-2. Steier would recoup after going down and her 1-7 gave her fourth overall. Lacount was most consistent and her 5-4 netted her fifth. 65cc 7-11 was another stacked field of little rippers and Brody Barth led the field

in moto one. Logan Kresal took second followed by Grant Neubauer, Kane Kalies and Chad Schmitt. In moto two Kresal poured the coals on his Husky and won the moto going 2-1 and taking the overall. Neubauer put his Donahue Super Sports Yamaha YZ65 into second place and his 3-2 gave him runner-up honors. Not too shabby being the only Yamaha in the class and also entering in a fishing tournament the day before as well. Barth went 1-6 for third ahead of Schmitt who went 5-3 for fourth. araboo has been hosting trials events a long time, and Noel Smage stepped up as the trials master so the 2019 event would not be cancelled. The sections all have rocks, lots of rocks. Luckily everything is in the woods so we didn’t have a problem with the heat. Saturday was hot and so was the riding. 60+ year old Noel Smage won the expert class by twenty-two points, beating all of his much younger competitors. His son is the GOAT of USA trials, so maybe it is reverse genetics. Doug Hay won the Advanced class by two points over Kyle Hach. They were tied with three sections to go, it was a squeaker for sure. Illinois’ Ralph Littlefield was third, four points back, ahead of Warren Lange. Intermediate was the largest class with eight riders. The Gustafson’s from Door County continued their good riding with Adam winning with twenty-one points, and Ryan also getting on the podium with thirty-five points, good for and third place.

Sandwiched in between them was Brookfield, Wisconsin’s Kurt Muente with twenty-five points. Novice had a good turnout, and Ben Ezell and Kris Tibor continued their season long battle with Ezell beating Tibor by one point. Ben’s loop scores were 2,1,6, while Kris went 2,4,4. Tyler Ingold was third with eighteen points. The Youth class had Kaspar Tibor and Aubrey Ingold battling. Tibor took the win with nice 8, 8, 5 loop scores. Ingold was winning after loop #1, but Tibor took over after that. On Sunday quite a few more riders showed up. We started riding at 9:30 and about 11am it poured. The event was put on pause since there was lightning in the area. The sections are tough when dry, and now they were wet and muddy, at about 11:45am the event was cancelled. We will be back as Kyle Hach has volunteered to be the Trials Master for 2020.

SX Racing with Joliet MX Willmington, Illinois - June 29 By Larry Dean Bank

hot early summer day in June was the setting for round four of the Joliet MX Arsenal series. The rain has been so sporadic owners Justin and Zack Martino have had their hands full in keeping the track rideable and open for practices let alone the scheduled races. Despite threatening weather and the hot humid temperatures the park began to fill with all kinds of riders and families. At Joliet MX there’s three tracks. A Kenworthy style Motocross track complete with some great sand sections, smooth and super fun rhythm sections. There’s also the Stadium track and a PeeWee track used for the Saturday night programs running simultaneously which makes for a lot of great racing and fun for the whole family. Heat race number one was for the Supermini class with a lot of fast up and comers lining up. Lucas Geistler got the holeshot with Talon Zollers snapping at his heels the whole race. Ayden Oppenlander, Casey Palka and Bodie Roth were all riding awesome, but the front runners were out of reach! A hard charging Zollers was right behind Geistler in both the heat and the main. +25AB/C hosted the return of long time Joliet alumni Mitch Swanson who took some time off, but like a good number of riders this year, he’s back motoing. Swanson got the early lead and hung onto it with

The 14-24 class seems to have a rivalry developing this year. Luke Jackson #154 and Ryan Crowley #327 were definitely at it in this class. Kevin Mulligan rode strong to a podium finish but was no match for Jackson and Crowley. Jackson took the win but Crowley definitely kept him honest. 65 Open & 85 Open races were definitely two classes to get on the fence for! In the 65’s it was Gunnar Heikkila riding very consistent and taking the win with Jaxson Schiller getting in ahead of Landon Whitney. In 85 Open it was Tanner Haddon that got a holeshot and rolled consistently to wins in both the heat and the main races. Mac Cullin and Bodie Roth rounded out the top three. +30B/C class saw the return of Nick Smith, one of our beloved area photographers in motocross. Brent Johnson took a commanding victory in both the heat and main. Smith grabbed second in the heat race but stalled his bike and gave second place to Derek Hauger out of Clinton, Wisconsin in the main. Next up was the 65 and 85 Beginner classes, and they proved to be an awesome set of motos. In the 65 class it was Lucas Wood from nearby Bonfield winning both the heat and the main. Braden Immormino didn’t make out too well in the heat, but wound up getting a strong second in the main.

85 Beginner had Blake Patterson getting out front early in the heat race until the third lap. He went down, stalled his bike and couldn’t get it going until after the race was well over. So it was Jack Cerutti taking the win in the heat race followed by Hudson Cook. Patterson regrouped, got the holeshot in the main and held on for the win with Cerutti in second. Open C was a huge class with all kinds of up and comers on the line. Ryan “The Rocket” Crowley won both the heat and the main with all kinds of battles behind him. Jack Sparks, Eric Siebert, Kevin Mulligan and Chris Godfrey battle with each other in both the heat and the main. Brian White dominated the A classes. “I feel amazing on the bike this year. I started out a bit rusty being six months off the bike for SX but I have to say this is the best bike that I’ve ever been on. My night was good. I want to thank BWR, LTec, SSi Decals, Race Tech, Freeport Honda Kawasaki, Rekluse, Hoosier, FXR, Tubliss, and Works Connection.” The 250B class had some very stiff competition. It was Hunter Billingsley winning both the heat and the main with a lot of bumping and battling going on behind him. Tyler Peters out of Plainfield finished second with Nolyn Thompson and Gavin Hawks behind. Lincoln Paxton dominate the 50 Open class with Cole Johler, Remington Rinker, and Holden Lamkin riding tough and strong behind him! 85 Junior and Senior was again another storm of strong up-and-coming racers! In the Jr class heat race Gunnar Heikkila beat out Tanner Haddon, but in the main Haddon put his head down to take the win. Hudson Cook rode strong behind Heikkila for third place.

Kevin Mulligan won the heat and finished second behind Sparks in the main. Casey Palka, Oscar Rodriguez and Owen Faulk battled back and forth every lap to round out the top five. 50Sr rider Tom Luberda dominated the night with a hard charging Lincoln Paxton in second in both the heat and the main. This was also one of our biggest classes with lots of great racing and battling. 50Jr had Holden Lamkin getting the holeshot and very comfortable again. Road America, a must attend Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - June 2 By Gordon Lunde

oad America, the track that drives teams crazy, did it’s best to confound the teams and riders of the MotoAmerica AMA/ FIM North American Road Racing Series again this year. The weather changes so rapidly in spring at Elkhart Lake, the teams and riders must be prepared for any conditions for the three day event. Mother nature provided the entire spectrum over the weekend with sun, clouds, rain, hail and back to sun again. Practice and qualifying were run in varied conditions the first two days causing teams to constantly change set ups and tires. Fortunately, most of the races got under way in dry conditions. The EBC Brakes Super Pole qualifying event was held in wet conditions, showing lap times far off the normal pace for Road America. Yoshimura Suzuki Factory racing’s Tony Elias came out on top with a best time of 2:30.992, almost 20 seconds slower than a dry track qualifying lap. The crowds around the track varied along with the weather. Saturday saw a pretty thin crowd but, those who withstood the off and on conditions enjoyed some good racing and of course all the amenities Road

America has to offer. The great food stands around the track draw big crowds all the time. I tried the beef brisket sandwich at the Turn Three and found myself a new favorite. Seriously, the best beef brisket I have ever tasted! The stunt show area had a big crowd Sunday afternoon watching these talented riders doing wheelies, stoppies, burnouts and all other sorts of tricks on their modified street bikes. Just down the road from there, many vendors set up their displays selling anything from motorcycle parts, rider gear and souvenir items to cars, trucks and insurance. Racing began with the Liqui Moly Junior Cup race. This event is for riders between the ages of 14 and 25, riding bikes that are produced from the factory with less than 46.9 horsepower. Some eligible bikes include the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and 400, KTM’s RC390, and Yamaha’s YZF-R3. The wide range of equipment needed some special rules to even out the field and the MotoAmerica tech team went to work. They apparently did their work well as the competition is close and has provided parity in the class. On this weekend a young 14 year old rider, Rocco Landers, aboard his Kawasaki

Ninja won the Saturday and Sunday races. Another young upcoming star in the series, 15 year old Dallas Daniels gave Landers all he could ask for in the races as the pair traded positions several times in each event. A third rider Kevin Olmedo, mixed it up in the second race and managed to get by Daniels on the last lap to take second place. The talent in this class is high and should provide a great learning base for the young riders to move up into faster classes in the future. Other races in the series were held over the weekend including Twins Cup, Supersport and Superstock 1000 but, the main events of the series, EBC Brakes Superbikes, gave the fans just what they wanted. High performance 1000cc superbikes, the cream of the crop, the best of the best, the fastest of the fast. Race one on Saturday was a 12 lap barn burner between the Suzuki Factory teammates, Tony Elias and Josh Herrin. Superpole winner Elias flew off the line into the lead at the start, but was soon passed by Herrin. These two traded places several more times until the last lap. Desperate for a pass on the final lap, Herrin tried a sketchy pass through turn five. It’s a rare event for a rider to try a pass on the outside

of turn five because the inside rider will use all the track from inside entering the turn to the extreme edge of the outside exiting the turn. Because of this, Herrin was forced off track onto the rumble strips exiting the corner and had to shut off to keep control of his machine. As he did so, the following pair of riders, also teammates, Cameron Beaubier and Garrett Gerloff, aboard the

Yamaha Factory Racing YZF-R1 machines passed by and dropped Herrin to fourth place. Elias was ecstatic at his win that keeps him well ahead in the points. Race two, held on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, was a near repeat of race one as the Elias, Herrin battle started again immediately. Elias jumped out front with Herrin content to follow. Herrinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s plan was to

hang with Elias until the late laps and sneak in a pass in an unsuspecting place, much like he tried in race one. That place turned out to be on the outside of Road Americaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s famed carousel turn. This is a high speed, extreme lean angle turn. Unlike turn five, there is plenty of room to pass on the outside, but because of the high speed and lean angle, it is rarely attempted. On the last lap, Herrin pushed past Elias through the turn and made the pass with spectators awed at his move. Now in front, Herrin had to keep Elias at bay for five more corners and a couple of long straights to the checkered flag. Elias, hoping to stay close enough to Herrin to make a draft pass on the front straight, pushed a little too hard entering the last corner and lost the front end, crashing off course. Herrin went on to capture the victory and again, that placed the two Yamaha Factory racers Beaubier and Gerloff into the last two podium spots. The excitement never ends at Road America. Great racing from the fastest riders in the country. Come, enjoy the races for 2020. It will be my 40th consecutive year attending the pro motorcycle races at this fantastic venue. I just may have to have a party!

hat a difference a few weeks of summer can make. Spring has been extremely wet and one of the very first off-road events of the year with dust was happening in late July. With the dryer conditions the Fox Valley Off Road crew got to repair many hills on the property that were in dire need of work. This resulted in some phenomenal racing battles and many critical passes were made on the newly rebuilt hills. 8 up 9 down was the count of how many hills that were used over the weekend. Gran Prix racing attracts a variety of riders and this Saturday was no exception. 1229C was one of the biggest of the day and with many riders in it that have started or grew up here at Fox Valley. The interesting fact is there is no less then 7 of the 12 riders in this class that race Hs, Gp, Mx, Sx, and some even dabbled in trials. This group is some of the most well rounded kids in racing that have been in this sport in a very long time. Conner Pilon and Jake Mueller had a great battle. Mueller coming through the other classes that started ahead of his C class in the first moto to a convincing win, but in the second moto he could smooth out

enough to keep Pilon at bay. Pilon with the motocross scoring used in gp pulled out the overall with a 2-1 score vs Mueller’s the 12. Ethen Eslinger from moto roots decided to give this almost woods race a try. He rode the struggle bus for the first moto coming in eighth, but as a young rider always does, he learned how ride his 125 in these new surroundings by pulling off a third in the second moto. At 6'5'' and 200 pounds that 125 was earning it's keep at today. He

ended the day in 5th. Vet riders are finding out they like these long motos and short days, it happens when you age, your time is the most important thing you have. Using it well Gp racing lets you sleep in and head home in time to do what ever you like in the afternoon. +50A with 50B/C totaled twelve riders, 40B/C had a dozen as well. Stacy Stewart was the man to beat in 50A. He didn't get the holeshot in moto one but his trail speed was solid and once he got clean air he was gone. Tommy O’Donnell and Jeff Oldenburg, with Steven Bland and Gerhard Ward were left to figure out the rest of the moto. Ward passed Oldenburg at the top of horsepower hill and was in third. Ward passed O’Donnell at the end of the second field crossing. Bland also passed for position on the same lap. Neither Ward or Bland could see Stewart's dust at this point, he was simply gone. Second moto Ward holeshots, but on lap two Stewart took an inside line to pass for the lead. Ward held on for second ahead of Bland, O’Donnell and Oldenburg. Noteable mentions for the GP races. The Ward boys actually raced in the same class and managed not to knock each other down - for the first time in recent memory they

played nice. Ryan Smith was happy to see this as he finished between them in the A class and sometimes gets to see the "show" but never wants to be "in the show"~! Brian Smith and Brad Eilers (owner of the Midwest Motocross facility in Chandlerville) traded wins on Saturday, but Eilers having a bad moto cost him in 40B/C. SUNDAY: hot, dry, and the air was full of riders anticipating a different setup than they’ve used before at FVOR. The last four events going back into last season the courses have had to be flat due to the wet conditions. Sunday is "hill day" proclaimed the riders meeting announcements. Eleven riders in the 85cc class is pretty common but today the battle between Lan-

don Lee, Ayden White, and Regan Doerr ran at a higher level than normal. Lee started out front with a great holeshot and he has been known to run off and hide from the competition. Today he built a twenty lus second lead by lap four. This would normally be enough to cruise. This is why we “race all the way to the checkers''. Last lap reached up and bit Lee crashing on one of the down hills getting pretty banged up. This allowed Doerr to capitalize on the miscue. Lee remounted to try to real in Doerr but time ran out. White came off the line a good distance behind the rest of the 85cc class, with some onlookers getting into that traditional "it won't start so lets push it to go", he was last into the first turn but wicked it up and got into third place. Down

over three minutes at on point he worked hard to get back as much time as he lost. This battle in the 85cc class will be interesting to watch unfold as the season continues. In the 65cc class Brody Brewer has started to really know his way around a woods course. Today he worked all the way up to fourth overall out of all the riders in the morning youth run. SuperMini, 85, 65, and Women. 65cc is the last to drop off the line, which means 65cc starts a full 1.5 minutes behind the Supermini class. Taking a fourth overall in that group is flying through the woods like his dad Joey used to do on the motocross tracks. Cooper Duff with full woods roots wasn't going to let Brewer get to far out there and kept his pace up as well making sure the 65cc class was a good contest for the full hour. The hills were tall, but didn't seem to bother these riders. Nikki was back. That would be Nikki Dixon, (which this writer is glad she got married because spelling he last name prior was too difficult) many would remember Nikki writing stories and shooting photos for many years. She motoed for a long time and found out that riding some woods races fit into the busy mom schedule. Nikki hadn't lost the holeshot touch, pulling a solid jump heading into the trail head. Riley Walters who is in a tight battle for the points lead in District 17 wasn't going to let that start hold her back as she kept up with Nikki in the first part of the lap before passing for the lead. Riley went on to win the Women's class with Nikki taking second and Darcie Tatum third. Drama, bad luck, lack of preparation, there are so many things that could make a rider’s day less than fun. +50A class. Seasoned veterans in the sport, normally the only challenge would be a angle tree root, grass covered rock, maybe even a low hanging branch which could make a day painful. Nope. Not today. Stacy Stewart pulled the holeshot (remember he won on Saturday), and his race wasn't terribly eventful, but the carnage behind him was must see. On the drop of the green flag one of the local fast boys, Kenny Otterbach was kicking and kicking the KTM that wouldn't light. So another lets run and push it session was witnessed. Not just a little push mind you, but to the first corner, around the second corner and down the trail. Choking the bike made it run, but little did Kenny know that at the first hill... he would find out his son decided it was a good idea to CYCLE USA, August 2019

shut off his gas when he loaded the machines earlier in the day. Anyone knows that Mr Otterbach on a motorcycle is fast for his age. Very quick but with that is a level of slaming and banging that would make any tree seek shelter. After this first part of a quarter lap episode he was on a mission. As the class got to the first crossing of rock creek, a KTM was upside down. Another hot rod Darrin Buffo over from Indiana must have hit something really hard as he snapped off his handle bar mounting bolts. He had to take the ride of shame in the trailer behind a quad to get hauled back up the truck for repairs. Buffo didâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t lose his day of riding, hanging around to pound out

an afternoon +40 class ride. Mean while Otterbach is pushing through the 1.5 hour race with more tenacity than normal, bringing Stewart from almost a minute lead down to seven seconds. Only to find the ground and drop back. Stewart who had no clue of all the +50 drama going on behind him. Kevin Finefield ran his race staying out of all the extra activities and held off Otterbach for half the race but in the end he finish third. +50B/C now has witnessed all this stuff, and Dj Parks pulls the holeshot on his KTM300 and likely was wondering if his orange steed would hold together! Kickbusch have been battling this summer. Kickbusch is in the points lead in D17 and Ron Kettle was here making sure to keep Kickbusch honest. Parks held second place for about half the racebefore Kickbusch got by, putting a couple more riders between him and Kettle. Porter kept his distance til the end. Mean while quietly over on the kids course fifteen 50cc riders are battling in their race. Cassie Fairfield has come into her own and her battle with Kayten Toal seems to continue. Kayten and Cassie came from sub 5th place starts to take the win and second podium spots with Hawkin Robbins completing the third step. Weston Sticha who competes in Sx as well 4th and Lyric Toal was fifth. This was the overall scores as both Cassie and Kayten are Jr riders (younger age group) which is pretty amazing in this situation. In his second hare scramble race ever, Greg Rogers who is a local rider that is at the park a lot, decided decided last race to try his hand at dodging trees. Being an avid mx rider and sometimes hitting a gp he had never raced long woods races. This was evident by the fact sitting on the starting line it was noted he didn't have bark busters. Everyone knows that FVOR is wider than some places but syill has a good amount of single track which was used for this event. Rogers pulled the holeshot and realized quickly that one has to pay attention to where the hands are placed on the bars, and how to miss the trees. Anthony Biagi was on hand as he just moved up from A class at 31 years old and wasn't going to let the new kid on the block off that easy. 1 hour and 45 minutes is the standard HS race. During that time Rogers and Biagi were as close as tire to tire and as far apart as eighteen seconds. Biagi is known for leaving a little for his last big push and on que he was on Roger's back fender as the race was coming to an end. The riders had a great race til the end with Rogers taking the win. Thor Rick has been riding around this park since he was able to walk. His and Nick Balzers' Beta machines battled for a time in the Open A class. Wyatt Edwards pulled a massive holeshot but the Beta guys got around him to battle for a few laps. Eli Otterbach (yep the gas shutoff guy) and Jordan Emmons came through the barrels 5th and 6th on the first lap. Falling in rock creek Eli was pushing but finding some mistakes kept his quest for the win a bit hard to obtain. Thor was leading and then that dreaded "sputter" you know the one

that says you are out of gas. Lap 11 did him in and down by the lower track there was no one close with pre mix to give it a splash for him to finish strong. This allowed Emmons to take the win. Noteable mentions. Jordan and Jazmin Arroyo showed up today, to our knowledge they have only raced one Megacross event. Stepping up to run a HS and particularly this one with the hills made it a real challenge. They rocked with finishes. Both fell mutilple times, got a few bruises but they both finished and at that level of competition and time on the course is outstanding. 4 wheel class with Chris Breitwieser, Micky Martin, and the young pup Carter Holder had a good battle for the A class steps on the podium. Carter had to come from behind the others to gain the lead taking about three laps to get there. Passing on this course was a little harder but with the mx track in for their race it made it bearable. Breitwieser held on for second. Fox Valley returns to racing on August 24th and 25th. Racing Heats up at Azzie! Lake Mills, Wisconsin - July 14 By the Aztalan Cycle Club

ull on summer finally arrived in early July and Aztalan’s monthly motocross weekend fell right in the middle of it. Dry, hot and bright sun - sort of the polar opposite of the wet and cool spring - but this is the midwest and we take whatever mother nature serves up. Even with the conditions, the Aztalan Cycle Club put in long hours and had the track in great shape as they always do. Right away you

could see they had added more sand to the surface, working it in deep. Corners had even more nice ruts and lines for great racing. Racing actually kicked off on Saturday late afternoon with the Azzie Twilight Series event offering the limited selection of classes... intended to be a fun night, but serious racing still sneaks in as expected. Three classes of pit bikes alone had a combined forty-five entries. Women, Mini, Boonies, Thumper and Two stroke classes fill the night under the lights and give

everyone a perfect reason to come make a weekend of it before the conventional racing kicks off the next morning. On Sunday, one of the first classes out was the fourteen rider Two Stroke B/C group. Columbus, WI’s Aiden Mccormick had them all beat into the first corner and led until the Gator Pit where a quick tip over left him scrambling as rider raced past. It didn’t take long for Elijah Tetzlaff to work into the lead as Jacob Oldenburg and Austen Madison filled out the top three. By the third lap the leaders were starting to settle in as Mccormick worked up to fourth ahead of Kyle Pratt. They finished in that order. Moto two saw Tetzlaff continue out front and lead Oldenburg and Madison across the line again. Pratt finished fourth, ahead of Tanner Rossi, earning those two top five spots overall as well. Brock Noreen has been a factor in the B classes for a couple years now and today was more of the same in 250B. The Sportland2 rider had to fight his way around the tough Dalton Hein in the first moto... taking three laps to get it done. Devin Fell held pace with the leaders all the way hoping for an opportunity that never came as he put a little gap on Nicholas Gaskell and Tyler Lee. Noreen and Hein spent the second moto leading the way again. This time Fell wasn’t involved and Dustin Sikorski stepped it up to finish third after a sixth in moto one. Gaskell rode smart in fourth for third overall as Lee finished fifth. 250C saw Elijah Tetzlaff again quickly fight into first place after about a half lap long tussle with Dylan Knoch and Spencer

Hein. Once those three settled that battle they held position while Caleb Brockmann dealt with late moto pressure from Kollin Kadinger and Calvin Binger. The second moto was a near repeat once Tetzlaff took over out front. He led Knoch and Hein to the checkers while Kadinger beat Noah Bindas (7-5) and Brockmann across the line for fourth in the moto and overall. Azzie has an unusually large following of vet and senior riders... they always have. Today the largest class of the day was +50, with thirty entries. Most of these riders have been around for a long time... and anyone that has been part of this sport for a while would recognize many of their names. On the line before the start Frank Weiss struggled to fire his Yamaha... taking all of the available two minutes to finally get it bump started after several attempts. He pulled up to the line just in time - and the extra adrenaline may have really kicked in as he grabbed a huge holeshot. Weiss is a usually at or near the front in the senior classes, but his start and fast first lap is less common. Whatever it was, he put it to

good use as he gapped Tim Boblin early. While there is a lot of talent in this large Boblin held on in second for a while until class, these riders always seem to be inthe relentless push from Carl Hein (yes, the volved in the top five. third member of Bryce Arnold charging to third the Hein family overall in the 65cc 7-11 class. running well today) became too much. As Hein slipped by Boblin for second Andrew Bussen was next to take a shot that never worked out and he finished fourth ahead of Tom Ferguson. The second moto was another Weiss runaway while Hein had a little less trouble getting into second ahead of Bussen. Ferguson also improved on his first moto for fourth ahead of Boblin.

Weiss also scored the overall in the +40A class... but it took a stepped up second moto ride to make it happen. In moto one, Paul Molkentin found some boost of energy and passed Weiss mid-moto for the victory. The effort couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t be repeated in moto two though as he settled for third behind Weiss and Joe Schuster (3-2). +40B/C had a good groupas well with twenty-six entries. This class had some really close racing out front in both motos as Andrew Omundson pulled away early in moto one for the win ahead of Brian Tobianski and Jim Beckman. Proving how close these guys are, in moto two Omundson had to settle for third behind Beckman as Tobianski took the win on his Yamaha. That 2-1 ride grabbed the overall ahead of Omundson (1-3) and Beckman (3-2). Like in the +50 classes, there was good close racing all through the pack making it some of the best action of the day. Bryce Arnold was on fire at the start of the first 65cc 7-11 moto. Jumping out of the gate he led Jayce Wolf, Hunter Morse and Ryder Skodras through most the first lap. Before they returned to the sand section in the second lap it had all changed.

Arnold was back in mid-pack, fighting to advance. Wolf set sail out front while Skodras fought his way around Morse for second. Torian Erdmann was in the mix as well with Mason Mccanna. While Wolf pulled away from everyone, Arnold was making passes, working his way back up. By the last lap, Arnold had cut through the pack and was able to finish an impressive third ahead of Erdmann, Morse and Mccanna. In moto two Wolf and Skodras set the pace out front as Morse wicked the throttle harder for third place ahead of Arnold and Mccanna. Overall, Arnold got the nod for the last spot on the podium in the fourteen rider class. Cody Simonton made the trip up from near by McHenry, IL a good one as he took both moto wins in the +25A class. Micheal Kingstad finished second in moto one ahead of Joseph Dretzka that had to work up to third. Dretzka had a little better start in moto two and used it to wrap up second ahead of Kingstad while Aaron Stroebel went 5-4 for fourth overall ahead of Kristopher Korn (4-5). +25B saw Jacob Oldenburg win both motos ahead of Nate White, Kyle Pratt, Seth Sirko and Logan Thiem as they kept the scoring task easy with identical moto finishes. Even with all the riders, bright sun and high temps, the club did a great job of keeping the track racer friendly. The ongoing work to everything is really paying off. As summer will come to a close way too early again this year, make sure to hit up a few of the clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s final events. Looking to really mix it up and have fun, check out the GranPrix coming September 29th. Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll have fun for sure... and be shocked at how challenging some of the fun changes the club will be mixing in to add an off-road feel to this special race.
