Sunset Ridge Youth Regional Walnut, Illinois - June 21/ 22 By Josh Rud, More photos at www.ShiftOnePhotography.com
T
he end of June kicked off the youth regional qualifier for the North Central region leading up to Loretta Lynn’s. This was the last step for youth riders, drawing riders in from all around the country. Some were injured, others had some bad luck at the earlier regionals, but regardless of the situation the competition was fierce. The week started off on Thursday with everyone getting settled in for the long weekend with practice sessions before the racing kicked off on Saturday for a three moto blast. Almost every class of the eighteen was completely packed with riders trying to get their ticket to the ranch, with several classes having more than forty riders leaving the excess to run qualifiers. Depending on the class in the North Central region, the top six will have a guaranteed spot in the forty-two rider gate at the ranch. The 50’s and the girls classes only have a thirty rider gate, so a few less would be advancing. This makes for some great competition with everyone out there in the hunt for the ticket to the Ranch. The track was in amazing shape all day Saturday, with a bit of rain coming through
involved with a down rider and broke his and some cloud cover later on to make things even better. The track crew pulled master cylinder off, front rotor, brake lever off a very organized schedule, getting the and several other issues. Plenty of Trials fun in Wedron
Fun in one of the creek sections.
Wedron, Illinois - July 6 By Liz Jeffries
I
t wasn’t fireworks, but engines that roared to life this Fourth of July weekend at the inaugural District 17 trials held at the Fox Valley Off-Road park, located near Wedron IL. It is a huge park with wide open fields and enough parking room to accommodate trailers and campers. Next to the fields there are acres of woods threaded with wide trails that provided every type of challenge that a rider could want. What also made this day special was that it was a joint event with a Gran Prix race, meaning there was a great mixture of riders of all kinds. The mix brought a real treat for everyone involved, and went over really well! The day started early to accommodate the knobby class riders who would later ride the GP. It was the first time I’d ever ridden a trials that was a dual event day, and it was fun getting to ride with all the different riders, to watch them maneuver the bigger bikes through the same novice lines I was riding. More than one commented on how this was their first time trying a trials, and how interesting it was. And the course could not have been more fun. With the help of Eric Miller from the Variety Motorcycle Club, Fox Valley OffRoad’s Travis Ward created a ‘loop’ that was ran off a gravel road running through the park. It had sections set up along each side of the road, each a mere ten or twenty 8

Points were low and even a single dab could mean the difference between first and last. Yet this made for great competition, as riders had to truly focus on their technique and skills to make it through as clean as possible. About halfway through the trials the GP began, making for an interesting combination with the slow technical trials course and the roar of the racers as they ripped through the woods. The GP course was a combination of twisting woods, open fields, and a motocross portion complete with jumps. And just so they didn’t feel left out, the trials riders had their own ‘enduro section’ complete with large tractor tires and logs that they had to negotiate. All too soon the trials wrapped up and the points were tallied. Autumn Franklin took first for the Women’s Ralph Littlefield

Short Track that almost wasn’t Lake Mills, Wisconsin - July 19
T
he Aztalan Cycle Club short track crew is among the most experienced at track prep you’ll ever find. Even so, this perfect July evening race almost didn’t happen. What looked like a great track early in practice, started seeing the top layer of clay peal and break up in turns three and four, making for less than safe conditions. The crew quickly went back out... watering, packing and working to save the event. If they were not successful in fixing it all, the decision was already made to call the event... no way were they going to ask racers to ride on a less than right, and safe track. Success came, and the program all went on as everyone hoped it would. They turned a bad situation into a good one. Smaller classes wouldn’t run heats... saving time to get the program done on time (track curfew), but all the racers got to race! With the adjustment in the schedule, only the largest classes ran heat races. Quad A ran two heats, with Brett Durant holding off Chuck Calvert in the first for the win. Dousman, WI’s Elijah Stigler ran out front all the way in the second heat, ahead of Daniel Pohlhammer. In the final it was Stigler jumping into the lead and winning, as he often does. While the 50cc 4 stroke 4-8 class may have the slowest lap times on the track, due only to the rider size and little bikes... you would never know it from the enthusiasm of the crowd along the fence line. The cheering is continuous, and supporting of all the new riders as they pound away their laps. When it was done tonight, little Riley Busse had led all the way, ahead of Xander Figliuzzi, Ethan Ramsey and Bodie Fuller. Super Senior (+50) is al10

In the opening Jake Mielke broke free of a heat, Michael Hunter was under pressure all the way from Mike Yogerst. Hunter rode smart lines, forcing Yogerst to look high through the first four laps, unsuccessfully. On the last lap Yogerst went low at the same time Hunter slipped just a little coming out of turn four, and that was all it took. Yogerst took the win. In the second heat, Daniel Vonmoos led all the way, with Jeff Chromy pulling up to his side each lap... leaving not an inch of room for any errors. As the race proceeded, Vonmoos pushed Yogerst right to the end to finish second. With only a lap left, Chromy made a move stick to pass Hunter for third, and all four of the riders finished really close together. The “younger” +30 class riders put on a good show as well. Jeremy Deruyter left all the action behind, getting a good jump and leading to the end. Jim Kirshbaum used all the

the Open class. Charlotte Kainz is always fast, much less when she gets out front off the start. In the first heat, everyone got to follow her through the first turns, and all the way to the checkered flag. Clayton Vonmoos, Daniel Murre and Jesse Janisch stayed tight behind her to the end. Corton Vande Zande won the next heat ahead of Blake Perry and Michael Van Langen. In the final, Janisch really had to work for the win, starting back in third, eventually passing VanLangen and Murre for the top spot at the end. The entire class of thirteen was close, and all fighting for positions - thrilling the spectators. Cole Anderson held on to a good start in his 65cc class. He was pushed early and late in the race by Theodore Bendykowski and Ezra Brusky. Anderson was back in the 85cc class, finishing third. Brady Lange led most of the race for the win, safely ahead of Loyal Prach. The 250cc class saw Parker Lange take the first heat race win ahead of Jim Kirschbaum. Behind them, Brooke Chromy and Daniel Vonmoos bounced off each other for over two laps before Vonmoos secured third for good. Clayton Vonmoos locked the lead down in the second heat and never looked back. Clayton Vonmoos took that momentum from the heat right into the main, grabbing the lead and never flinching. Michael Van Langen finished second ahead of a hard charging Lange and Jim Kirshbaum. Cody Funk rounded out the top five. For a race that almost didn’t happen, this one turned out to be very exciting. If fast racing wasn’t enough... as the Vintage bikes took to the line for their race, everything was put on hold as Short Track regular Bobby Reese got on one knee, and asked fellow racer Mia

Half Day at SPRING CREEK Millville, Minnesota, - June 22 By Keith McKenna
M
other Nature pulled a fast one on the racers and fans in southern MN again as the first part of the Spring Creek Super Series, Round six weekend was stellar for racing, and the last portion was great for a fish, as the water came from the sky. More on that later. I hate Spring Creek MX Park.... said no one ever! And it showed as many many racers came out to get in a day of practice on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, to prepare for the following day’s race. Riders from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota and Colorado, 458 entries in all.
Pinned through the mini track rhythm section, future champion #150 Aj Assen, bringing home third in 50cc 4-6.

CYCLE USA, August 2014
One of the biggest annual sporting events in Minnesota is the Monster energy AMA Pro-Motocross National that makes a swing through Southern MN every July, and the excitement building for that event was already obvious. I spoke to Wyatt McGrath and Wyatt is certainly a man-child on a mission. It will be a while before he graduates to the bigboy track but on this day, in the 50cc Premix class he predicted that he would “spray the champagne” (I mean the SunnyD juice box). The prediction came true, but not without a fight from Koby Turner, with Aj Assen from St Paul, to round out the top three spots. It is impressive when the Open A riders are on the track, but equally impressive is the Supermini and the 85cc classes. In those classes racers are between the ages of 9-13, and if you think the tenacity and skill set does not realize it’s full appetite for victory till the rider reaches his twenties... you’d be sorely mistaken. The top riders in the 85cc 9-12 class were fighting for the chance to lead the pack across the finish line. The one with the greatest level of tenacity on this day was Cambridge, MN resident KTM mounted #51, Josh Fedder coming in first with Gavin Janovsky from Elko nipping at his heels in second and Rochester, MN native Dillon Nelson clinching the bronze. Up to the line rolls the 14-24B wave with fourteen entries. A virtual “who’s who” of up and coming riders who will soon be giving the A riders fits. Who would rise to the top with names like Weir, Barnes, Rapp, Maus, Luther, Kienast and more. Chase Becker was the one to get chased by the rest of the field today. Blaze Best on his KTM, worked hard, but came up a little short. It was good spectating though as the top three were really airing it out. South Dakota resident Austin Kienast, always a favorite for the win, just couldn’t put it together today and settled into third ahead of Wisconsin’s Joseph Gomez. In the +40C racing, Jesse John could only manage a third place finish today. He probably was weighted down from consuming so much bar-b-cue the night before. I showed up in their camping spot on Saturday night, and they had the full spread out. There was so much meat on the grill, burgers, tenderloins, chix drummies, that all of it had to be enjoyed, ALL OF IT! There was Jesse, tongs in hand, the master chef grillin up a storm, all the while his lovely wife Angela was bringing out side dish after side dish, it was crazy. Those two have single handedly made motocross
Creek’s extreme elevation variations conin MN home for so many. Anyway, I dispired to make the course un-navigable by gress. In +40C Scot Adams from Isanti all but the most powerful bikes in the MN piloted his Kawasaki to the upper hands of the most skilled mud specialists. reaches of the podium following a comWith weather radar showing a second manding performance. Twelve lovely ladies woke up on Sunday and put on their “race” face. #521Trisha Hoover wouldn’t be denied as she sliced her Honda CRF250 through the Minnesota bluff country with all the precision of a surgeon. #884 Falen Narel came over from across the river (WI) and she was ready for a fight. Narel and Hoover were going at it tooth-n-nail for the entire event, but Hoover had Narel’s measure today. Just a few seconds behind the leading duo came the hard charging Katy Vanderwerf. So, time for the “Premier” Open A class throw-down. Up to the line rolls a twenty-four rider gate, fast company all! School’s back in session as the top two finishers, both on Hondas, put on a riding clinic with the third place finisher Gavin Kadlec having a front row seat to watch. The two top riders in the class were none other than Plymouth MN resident Christian Craig and his neighbor from Hamel, Jerry Robin. A great day full of racing... right? Hardly, as right around the halfway mark in the day the skies broke open with buckets of rain coming down. Fox Valley Gran Prix weekend
+30 class start.

aturday brought something new with Fox Valley Off Road's introduction of a one day Rider Training Camp. Mx Stuff4u's Tommy Hofmaster, along with Service Honda's Burton Lavens, Woodstock Ktm's riders Ryan Moss, and Chase Robinson descended on the weekend with the task of teaching others how to maneuver their dirt bikes. Tommy and Burton were there to handle the mx / sx duties while Ryan and Chase took the off-road side activities. Excellent weather and just under 100 students made for an excellent day. Corners, hills, logs, off-cambers, tree roots, stopping etc., it was all on the agenda. Starting the day at 10am, and breaking for lunch at 1pm then after it all, open riding til close. Sunday rolled in with rider's meeting call for the Trials group, many new to the sport as doing both events on this day was possible with the Gran Prix not starting til 11am. Rave revues of the new setup and process as this was the first Trials event ever held at FVOR. Never seeing this kind of riding in person before I was amazed at the balance and talent AMA District 17 trials riders have. Champ class, David Rohrschneider, won this class and watching some of the obstacles and technique he used to conquer test 16

C class was likely the best racing of the 4 and 5, wow. It's not a race, day. Countryside Ktm/ Husqvarna’s Taiga no question there, but it's still Judd (1), Dylan Broll (314), Dougie Prophighly competitive in a much per (930) offered the classic example of different way. Broll who has event seen riders scrambling raced stadium, and HS along with now to get ready for the GP, and GP's, was on a Yamaha 250. Broll led others sitting around dismost of moto one, but made a mistake on cussing the day so far. the last lap letting both Propper and Judd At 11am it was time to rev by. Coming hard through the pack was the motors, get out the green, RCR's Garrett Ward on a KX100, just to white, and checkered flags add another flavor to this already interestfor some Gran Prix event racing battle. Ward was 100 yards away from ing. Ryan Moss, Chase the lead trio and found that the slick corner Robinson, Travis Ward, Anafter the barrels (finish line for the mx thony Krivi, Ryan Smith were on hand to do battle. This was some good racing, the home field advantage with Service Honda's Ward is always a factor, but again this race he was bested by a hard charging Robinson. Experience and staying off the ground kept Robinson seeing the checkers first today. Ward led many laps except the one that matters at the end. This action was all in the new A class, which pits Woods and MX riders who are A and AA in the same class. Krivi and Moss battled off and on all day, with the younger Krivi taking third and Moss fourth. Chase Robinson and Travis Ward battle.

He and Propper went at it early with Broll getting a bad start and trying to come through the large field of riders. Judd put his Countryside Husky in the lead for good and won the moto, taking the overall, Broll this time held on to second for second overall. Propper went 1-5 for third and was lucky that so many in the C class were inconsistent. Spencer Neurohr went 53 taking fourth. Honorable mentions; WFO Promotions' Tanner Whipple went 2-1 in the 85/ Supermini class with a high speed pass in the back grass track section over Garrett Ward who settled with a 1-2 score. Whipple also beat up on the old guys in Thumper class, beating
Aj Waggoner and Darrel Carr. Michael Blaydes took fourth in his first ever two-wheel race. Fox Valley Off Road's first ever 4th of July double header weekend was a resounding success. The training camp on Saturday with the GP/ Trials combination Sunday was a

Bomber track fun at LTM If you can say anything about the SuperMini class, it was very green! The top eight riders were all on Kawasakis. The meanest of the green was Ashton Hollis who was placing lap times on par with many of the bigger bike classes. Hollis won both motos and the overall ahead of Chase Smothers. In the first moto Kawasaki rider Kole Medwid took third, but trouble in the second moto gave him a finish of sixteenth. Third in the second moto Troy Noland, and with a fourth earlier he grabbed third overall.

R
ound four of the Grass Roots Motocross Series was held on a near perfect prepared track. The crew had the Bomber track in great shape, and kept it that way all day. Lincoln trail did a great job of keeping the races rolling all day and it was a great event. The Women’s class was very quick today. Riders from three states came to compete in this event, and in the first moto Suzuki rider Abby Davignon was flying, and took the moto win. Honda rider Holly Hill got second with Tina Carter-Speece third and Megan Moan fourth. With the drop of the gate for moto two it was again Davignon out front and trucking. Davignon went on to take the win as Hill fought for second all the way to the end, with Carter Speece third and Moan fourth. 250B class had new to the class, Women’s rider Megan Moan in it today. Moan, “I’ve been running the C class but it was a little wild sometimes with riders taking whatever line and crossing the track. It was time for me to move up, and riding with the B class will help me become a faster rider.” In the first moto Husky rider Brennon Kershaw showed the pack the fast way to the first turn and on the track. Kershaw had his two stroke on the pipe on his way to taking the first moto win with Kawasaki rider Aaron Carter second and Abby Davignon (Women’s class winner) third. In the second moto Kershaw again had things under control and won the moto. Second went to Kawasaki rider Ryan Crites, who finished fifth the first moto after having a rider stuck in the rear of his bike off the start. Crites finished third overall. Third for the second moto was Davignon and when matched with her third in the first moto gave her second overall.
Holly Hill took fourth in the class (4-5). Megan Moan finish ninth overall with scores of 8-9. Good job. A really fun class to watch for me was Open Beginner. No matter how fast you are going, if you have someone about the same speed with you on the track its a race! In the first moto Yamaha rider Bret Hooper jumped out front with a holeshot and took off. Kawasaki rider Bryan Fitzgerald was on the hunt, and stalked him around the track. Fitzgerald was coming strong and over the camel back he pulled alongside Hooper and the race to the next corner was on. When they got there Fitzgerald had the inside and made the pass for the lead. Fitzgerald held on for the moto win with Kawasaki rider Michael Hodges (who the announcer called Emig all day because he was #47) was third. In second moto it was the same as Fitzgerald took the win with Hopper second and “Emig” I mean Hodges third. Great to see we have new riders out enjoying our sport. The SuperMini class had eighteen riders! Abby Davignon won the Women’s class and then finished second in 250B.

400 Plus at July Aztalan Lake Mills, Wisconsin - July 13 By Dave Hollub
M
otocross in Wisconsin in July often means hot and humid, but this year the day started out mild (for July) with temperatures in the high 70s. When the predicted overnight rain didn’t hit, it was up to the track crew to get some water down and then the 400 plus entries headed out for practice. Practice set in some pretty good lines and watching them out there it was obvious today was going to be a great race day. Ben Blazek ripped out his first 50Sr. holeshot of the day with Nathan Postma and Ayden Price right on his rear fender. Blazek bobbled just enough to leave an opening for Price to slip into the lead before they hit the west end of the PeeWee track. Blazek had another bobble before the first lap was scored and slipped into the middle of the pack. Price looked like he was going to cruise to an easy win until he went down on lap three in the corner after the plateau. Noah Bindas now had the lead and held on for the win with Postma close behind. Blazek was charging hard and moved past Nolan Schweighardt on the last lap to grab third. Once again Blazek was first around the holeshot for moto two, then Price and Bindas slipped past before lap one was scored. Postma got by Blazek and held him
off to the finish. Bindas pushed his way past Price on lap two, then had his hands full holding him behind. Price pushed hard and in the last corner before the finish twisted the throttle all the way to take the win by less than a wheel. Bindas claimed the overall with a 1/2 day while Postma’s 2/3 was good for second, and Price (6/1) took the final podium spot. Bindas, “I was racing that number 127 and he tipped over and I took advantage of it and won the first moto. Second moto it was really close at the end but he just edged me out. I still got the first overall. I want to thank my Mom and Dad, and my brother because they have all been helping me practice and getting me faster.” Kirsten Raemisch had the Women’s class down pat today as she led every lap in her pre Loretta tune-up. Ashley Densow ran a solid second while Sierra Dortch settled into third. In moto one Alexa Duclos chased Jade Wennlund all moto and finally slipped into fourth on the final lap. In moto two Wennlund was able to hold off pressure from Duclos to claim fourth. When 65cc got their chance, Justin Oehlhof jumped out front right away and looked like he had the advantage as he opened up a small gap. On lap two and just after the plateau Oehlhof washed out his front end and went down, putting Elijah Tetzlaff out front. Oehlhof was back up and running before he lost any more posi-

tions but he couldn’t catch Tetzlaff before the finish. Aiden McCormick had settled into third and held off a mid moto challenge from Cole Godfrey. McCormick edged out Oehlhof for the moto two holeshot by dominating the tight inside line. Oehlhof was not going to be held back this moto, and by the time he hit the plateau the first time, he already had opened up a gap ahead of Brandon Martyniak. Spencer Hein made up for a ninth place first moto as he ran in third all moto. Noah Bindas was running fourth until he went down, putting Owen Haseleu in position to take the spot at the finish. Oehlhof (2/1) got the overall followed by Martyniak (4/2) and Tetzlaff (1/8). Mike Duclos got the jump out of the +40 moto one gate-drop and by the time lap two began he had Carl Hein and Marc Ottenad right on his rear wheel. Hein found a way around Duclos in the west end and by the time he went over the plateau had already opened up a little breathing room. Ottenad got around Duclos on the next lap and began running down Hein, finally making the pass just before the checkers flew. Frank Weiss got around Duclos on the final lap to claim third. Duclos was out front again in moto two but this time Hein was out front on the first trip over the plateau with Ottenad and Joe Schuster close behind. Ottenad was out front on the next lap. Hein held on in second with Schuster third while Duclos battling with Weiss for fourth. Weiss got around Duclos in the barn section on lap three, and by the time they took the checkers he was all over Schuster’s rear fender. A 1/1 day was good for Ottenad to take the overall.

Justin Wolf is also preparing for his August trip to Loretta’s, and today he was out front running hard in a couple of classes. When 250B got their first drop, Wolf grabbed a big holeshot but Eli Walters managed to get around him in the west end. Wolf tried various lines looking for an opening which he finally found near the end of lap two to slip back into the lead. While Wolf and Walters battled for the lead Mason Persha was cruising in third ahead of Cody Sigler. In moto two Wolf edged out Tyler Vacala for the holeshot by using the outside line and staying hard on the throttle. On their first trip over the plateau Wolf already had a gap on the rest of the class and continued to cruise out front. Sigler and Persha swapped positions a couple of times during the moto with Persha having the advantage at the checkers. Nick Czechowicz came back from a mid pack start and finished fourth just behind Sigler. Wolf also went 1/1 in Sportsman B/C to take that overall as well. Later Wolf commented, “I’ve got about two more weeks to Loretta’s, and I’ll be racing College B/C and 450B Stock. I am definitely looking forward to that and will hopefully do something good down there. Thanks to Sportland2, Mom and Dad, V Metals, EVS, MSR, TZR, Spectro, Williams Motorworks, all the Dretzka family, and everyone else for all the support and getting this far.”

Motosports Park Heating Up Byron, Illinois - July 20 By Josh Rud, More photos at www.ShiftOnePhotography.com
T
his past weekend things got underway for the sixth round of the Nuke Series out at Motosports Park in Byron, Illinois. The first impressions of everyone hitting the track was that the dirt was in prime shape, and making some really good lines. Everyone was ina really up-beat mode, as usual. There was a great turnout and the weather was amazing. It was going to be another great day at Byron. Coming out in Supermini for their first moto Eddie Norred got off the line fast, taking over the lead from the get go and not looking back. Right behind him was Jake Fell and Mikey Billion, both on the hunt. Over the first jump into the right hander Dylan Denson snuck into the inside to take over third leaving Fell in second. Denson made it around Fell coming down the hill on the second lap with Billion following right behind him to move them both up a spot. Norred took the win with Denson and Billion rounding out the top three. In the second moto Norred took the win once again for the overall. Billion finished second overall with a second place finish and Denson was third in the moto and overall. +30B/C got underway a little later in the day with some cool battles going on. Blasting off the line was Randy Julseth taking the holeshot followed by Jason Edgerton
and Roland Gomez. Flying into the last turn before the finish line Edgerton had moved up to the front as Cory Lingle and Julseth were side-by-side, battling hard for second place. Hitting the sand Lingle pulled away to take over second while Gomez was able to take over third. Pushing hard through the laps, Gomez got around Lingle coming through the sweeper to take over second. Edgerton took the win followed by Gomez and Lingle. The second moto was a repeat of the first giving Edgerton the overall, Gomez second and Lingle following in third. Open A was a fast race as always with Ty Tyrrell out in full force, and grabbing the holeshot in the first moto leaving Andrew Thyberg and Arick Abraham behind as they hit the sweeper. Everyone was going hard as Eric Feuillerat was making up ground and caught up to Abraham. On the third lap Feuillerat was able to edward Lengwin on the
get an inside line and take over third while Tyrrell was stretching out a comfortable lead. Feuillerat was starting to make a push for second when the laps ran out. Once again the second moto was a mirrored finish, giving Tyrrell the overall with the sweep, Thyberg second and Feuillerat third for the day.
gas in the schoolboy class.
250C was stacked as it usually is, having thirty riders start for a very busy race. Hitting the first turn hard Tiaga Judd got out front for the lead with Steve Simmons and Stuart Schwagerman all bunched up, heading into the first jump. Coming down from the right hander Schwagerman made his move to the inside taking over second, putting Simmons back to third. Schwagerman caught up to Judd in the sand, showing him a wheel, but Judd held him off. Meanwhile, behind them Simmons had bobbled and lost a few spots with Brandon Allen now moving into third place. On the third lap, after a great battle Schwagerman made it by Judd to take over the lead, then holding it for the win. In the second moto Schwagerman took the win again for the overall, Judd was second for second overall. Schoolboy was another big race with some great riding out there. Coming off the gates Chase Boykin took off to an early lead coming from the outside pulling hard into the sweeper with Jarred Berggren and Tiaga Judd right behind him. Over the first jump, Berggren was on it taking over the lead with Judd fighting Boykin for position. After several laps, almost out of nowhere Eddie Norred was flying through the pack, making up for a bad start and launched straight into second place with Boykin holding on to third. Berggren held on for the win with Norred and Boykin rounding out the podium. In the second moto Berggren took the win once again, grabbing the overall. Judd took over second place, taking second overall with a fourth place finish in the first moto. Norred settled into third overall with a 2-4 moto score. It was great day out at Motosports Park with the track crew working hard getting everything perfect for the race day. This left the track in great condition all day with only one real break in the action to give the track a little work. Things are moving right along this summer and it’s with no doubt it will get even better as the series moves into the final rounds. Woodstock SX Taking Off! Woodstock, Illinois - July 11
R
acing in Woodstock Illinois was reintroduced at the McHenry County Fairgrounds last year. Many years ago the same group running races at Lake Geneva (WI) also ran a few events here. After a successful 2013 kick-off season, the group running the events, based out of Woodstock KTM, quickly joined up with AMA District 17, and the events have been getting better all the time. More riders... smoother schedule, track tweaks each race, all leading to the great racing we saw this mid-July Friday night. It is cool, and hopefully here to stay for a long time. The events are so close to the WI/ IL state line, that a large portion of the rider base is coming from Wisconsin. The Vet class riders kicked off the night’s main events, as +30A rider Benjamin Booher put his Honda into the lead off the start. James Rossi was glued to his rear fender through the first two laps, before slipping by in front of the spectator whoops section. Rossi put a couple bike lengths on Booher, holding the lead to take the win.
250B start; Chad West with the holeshot, #78 Alex Rozboril, #91 Anthony Wallace.
Allen Marugg finished third. In +30B, Jason Edgerton led Tom Farchione from start to finish, as Thomas Conroy and James Wehrman finished third and fourth ahead of Travis Larson. Race winner Edgerton was the only non Wisconsin rider in the top five, coming over from Oakwood Park, IL. The 85Jr and Sr classes ran together, and after some great action in the earlier heat race, Tommy Fortune (85Jr) and Reid Runkel (85Sr) continued their bat-

tle in the main. While racing in different divisions, they were surely fighting over bragging rights. Fortune spent much of the heat race behind Runkel before a late race pass. In the main, Fortune got out front and held off early pressure from Runkel to take his class and overall win. Alex Moss finished second in the 85Sr class while Elijah Tetzlaff, Hunter Billingsley and Trace Franzke filled the lead group in 85Sr. Deegan Cooley was unstoppable in the 50Sr class, leading out of the first turn, and never looking back. Evan Griffiths pushed his Cobra to second as close race took place behind him. Reilly Crisp got the best of Colby Clem in the heat race for third, but that changed in the final. Clem had his hands full, but held on to the position each lap of the main while Crisp bounced across the track trying to get by.
The night racing is family friendly and great for spectators. CYCLE USA, August 2014

Mikah Carpenter, Landon Freund and Shane Larson took their battle for the 50Jr class win right down to the last lap. All riding KTM’s, they finished in that same order in the eleven rider class. By the time the bigger bikes returned to the track, the stands had filled with spectators, and everyone was ready for more great racing. The fifteen 250B riders definitely provided that entertainment. Chad West got a good jump and railed out of the first turn in the lead, with Alex Rozboril and Anthony Wallace leading the pack. Rozboril and Wallace tangled at the end of the first lap and only Wallace came out of it... Mean time, Justin Wolf and Ian Malinowski had worked their way up to fourth and fifth. Wolf had the right line to get past Wallace as he pulled clear of Rozboril, taking over second. West was still leading. It took until the last lap, but Wolf found a way to grab the lead and come from behind win. Second place finisher West, “I got a really good jump and held it into the corner. This is my first B race after running C all year. I wanted to move up and ride with the faster guys. I knew Justin was there and how good he is. I held on as long as I could before he got me in the double-double. I’m still pumped with second in my first race, I couldn’t ask for anything bet-
ter. I’d really like to thank my parents, Tom Zont, Gaerne and Fly.” Sportland 2/ EVS/ TZR/ Williams Moto Werxs/ Spectro back Wolf, “My start wasn’t very good, and I had to work my up. I tried to move as quick as possible. I ended up making the pass for the lead on the last lap, and it was awesome. The entire program (at Woodstock) is even better than last year. This is your typical styled fair race... tight, and a lot of fun.” Wallace finished third with Malinowski fourth, just ahead of Thomas Kraepin. Both 250 and Open C had enough riders to split them into multiple classes. In the first 250C class, Taiga Judd took the win on his KTM, ahead of Jared Burba and Jordan Roxworthy. In 250C-2, Nickolas Lorenz led early. Brandon Allen was pushing hard for a pass, and after the two rode side-by-side for half a lap dragging
bars, Allen got to an inside line that worked. Lorenz never gave him an inch to the end, but couldn’t find his way back into the lead. Blake Bauer ran in third, as Bradley Kane made a late race past Tony Storniolo for fourth. Allen, “I was second off the start, but after a few close laps I got him on the inside and then held him off. I’ve raced against him (Lorenz) before, and he’s

BIG Night at Jordan SX Jordan, Minnesota - July 11 By Jamie Theis
A
pproximately 225 entries turned out for the second annual Mid-Season Championship at Jordan Supercross on July 11th. Several great sponsors provided prizes for the winners of each class along with a $1200 pro purse. Once again the Motokazie crew put in their sweat and hard work to get the track in prime racing condition. An extra special part of the evening was a two moto pit bike race that
drew twenty-two pit bikers for some bar banging action. Back to racing after a three and a half year break was Blake Dungey of Chaska, MN. Blake was an up and coming amateur racer, part of the infamous Dungey family, but had to take a leave of absence from racing due to health reasons. Well, that three year break didn’t seem to have slowed him down much. At the drop of the Pro class gate, Dungey had a good start but fell in a corner, pushing him back to eighth place. By lap two he’d already moved his way up to forth; and by the third lap he was in third place where he would finish. The heat finish order was: Joe Perron of Elko, Justin Craft of Ham Lake, Dungey, Nick Jackson, Cody
Slark, Marcus Winch, Ryan Orres, Logan Marzahn, Dylan Wolff, Colton Arneson, and Brett Mclaud of Cedar Rapids, IA. In the Pro race main event, Dungey took the holeshot and held the lead the entire eight lap race. The action in the main event fell to the back of the pack, with Orres working his way up from a seventh place start to a forth place finish. Slark also had a tough main event, with a ninth place start, he had to fight his way up to seventh. The main event finish order was: Dungey, Perron, Jackson, Orres, Winch, Wolff, Slark, Craft, Arneson, and Mclaud. The 450C class had a great turnout with 16 riders. In the heat race it was Levi Buckley with the holeshot and lead. Cody Wroe was hot on his tail, followed by Seth Fischer on his Kawasaki. Buckley crashed on the third lap in front of Wroe, which allowed Fischer to take the lead. The heat race finish order was: Fischer, Wroe, Cameron Klehr, Max Hennes, Mitch Kopp, Bret Holland, Marcus Klehr, and Adam Olson. Cody Wroe was second in both 250 and 450C.
Nick Jackson flying high to a second in the Pro class.
The 450C main event race did not see much change in order with the exception of Johnny Kreuser. Kreuser had a third place start; but tipped over in the third lap to finish in tenth. The 450C main event finish order saw Fischer, Wroe, Holland, Cameron Klehr, Olson fill out the top five. Motokazie would like to thank their sponsors: Ziegler Cat, Minnesota National Guard, 401 Manufacturing, Strider bikes, Coates RV and Ace Trailer Sales. Fast Racing at Crossroads MX Mason, Illinois - July 20 By James Pinckard
C
rossroads MX hosted round five of the Grass Roots Motocross Championship. With tracks in the series from three states it drew riders from four states to race. It’s good to see our District 17 tracks involved in events like this because it draws riders to find out how good Motocross is in our district. The lack of rain kept the Crossroads crew on their toes this event, but they did a great job providing a safe and fun track to race. The Crossroads layout is great, and if you have not made the trip there you should. Even with the temperatures on the warm side, the racing was hot! One class that was in the mode was65Jr. This class is the first “clutch” class for young riders, and you would expect the riders to be more… well learning the trade. This wasn’t the case today, these riders had great style and were flying! In the first moto Cobra rider Edgar Lewis had the start he needed, but Cobra rider Brock Carter Toal finished third in 50Sr, and also raced in 65Jr. Lassiter didn’t wait long and made around the track, and these riders were the pass for the lead after the downhill doudoing just that. In the first moto Husky ble. Lassiter was on the gas and took the rider Jakob Payne took the win with Honda moto win with Lewis second. Kawasaki rider Destin Juelfs second and Alexander rider Jacob Snodgrass also put in a great Juelfs third on his Suzuki. In the second ride for third. In the second moto Lassiter moto Payne again had his Husky on the had things under control and styled his way pipe, taking the win. Behind Payne it was to the moto and overall win. Destin put in a great The 125 class, well there’s just something ride for third in the moto and overall. cool about the sound of the 125’s cranking The biggest class of the day was 250C, and it is always full of action. Yamaha rider Damon Evans took both moto wins and the overall, but it wasn’t without having to work for it. Evans rode hard and had to pass his way to the front. rider Jacob Hill finished second with Dakota Welty third. In the second moto Ethan Royer took second and with his fourth in the first moto he walked away with second overall. Third in the second moto was husky rider Jakob Payne, but having trouble in the first moto left him with thirteenth overall. Third overall went to Hill who finished sixth the second moto. There was a chance for anyone to place anywhere, it just shows how close and great the racing is in this class. The +30 classes are becoming one of the biggest of the day. They are also great classes to race and watch. In +30A Kawasaki rider Denny Dooley took the first moto win. In the second moto Dooley again was out front and riding with grace. If you ever get a chance to watch Dooley ride, do it, he has perfect style and many riders could learn some stuff just by watching. Monk is no slacker and he kept Dooley on his toes and finished right behind him both motos for second overall. Third overall went to Husky rider Shawn Kelley with his third in the second moto. Berm Benders Civil Series Race Brook Park, Minnesota - June 29 By Keith McKenna
T
he day dawned sunny and warm for Round five of the 2014 Civil Series. Finally, a great day with perfect conditions for the MN motocross masses to get out and enjoy a sweet day of racing, camaraderie and food. With heavy rain earlier in the week, certain areas in the pits would have been better for a skimboarding contest, but the race track was in as good of condition as one could ask for. It was mint! The 250B racers pulled to the first gate of the day with perennial favorites Austin Kienast and Tommy Coon looking to come out on top, but the #221 Yamaha ridden by Daniel Benham would be a denier in the class, finishing 2-1 to Kienast’s 1-2. Coon hung on to the

bronze prize at day’s end. 50cc 4-8 Premix was an all KTM affair with Jake Bostrom Jr going 1-1 on his #67 mosquito repeller and Kaden Tabaka being forced to settled for second. Lukas Mill finished third. The bright future of motocross in MN can be seen in the 85cc 9-12 group. There’s some fast company wrapped up within. Today the field was stacked with talent as the #233 KTM of Eagan, Minnesota’s Josh Boaz topped the field after an epic scrap with another KTM mounted future star, #51 Josh Fedder. Nick Paige was looking to make an all KTM podium, but was just edged out by Yamaha mounted Aaron Boatman. Honestly, at the drop of the gate, any of the top five finishers could have made it to the top step. Winner Boaz also took top honors in the Supermini class with

Boatman wheeling his Yamaha to second place. The Women’s class but with some talent lined up as well. Sommer Mills was tiptop, going 1-1 against fellow Honda rider Kyra Boaz. Mariah Braastad spoiled the red rider party by slotting her Suzuki into the third place finish in both motos, closely followed by Anndi Ertel. In the +50 class, #23 Ray Riedl was tapping into his inner speed en-route to a win over the Suzuki of Michael Rapp with Mark Speldrick wheeling his Kawasaki across the line for third. When the gate dropped in the +25A class, Matt Zebro was intent on using the power and engineering of his #248 CRF450 to get to the top spot. He had to work hard for the gold though, as both Chas Kadlec and Mark Arends really wanted to put another stamp in the history books of BBRMX. Today Zebro had all the bases covered, going 1-1 while Kadlec and Arends traded the next two spots in the motos to round out the podium, with Kadlec taking the silver. Next up to the gate was the 250C class. The brand on top was that of one Danny Cobenais who hopped the river to come over from Prescott, WI and lay down the law. He would head the class, having to fight like Rocky Balboa to pull it off. His very competent opponent Chad Pekkala came from the port town of Duluth, MN -

on his Yamaha YZ250F. It wasn’t decided who would come out on top till the checkered flag flew. Lee Gardner from nearby Mora rounded out the award winners. The fences were filled with all in attendance when the 250A riders lined up on either side of the dog house. When the gate fell, Kawasaki mounted Jake Loberg took off, with Red rider Kody Graba in tow. Loberg would string together seamless laps on a heavily rutted surface that was becoming very dusty in the afternoon heat and wind. Graba ought in vain to reel in the first place Loberg, all the while the KTM of third place Spencer Henrikson would be seen hounding the rear wheel of Graba like a crazed Kamikaze warrior. In the end, the day’s racing was fast and safe, and everybody went home with their racing hunger satisfied. As always a huge thanks go out to all the staff and volunteers that make the racing possible everywhere. Also, thanks to the paramedics and first responders that always
come out. Thanks have to go out to Kurt and Kelli Caswell, for all the work you do to make the BBR facility a first class racing venue. You two are like Mom and Dad when we are at the track. Levi responded with a 3.995 second time on his second time to take a convincing win, with Brian Shutt third. Wade Schultz claimed his first win class with a sizzling 3.706 second run in the second round to take the class win, and snatch the Overall Fast Time award from Joe McGurer. he Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club hosted the 2014 Illinois/ D17 State Championship Hillclimb at their club grounds near Cayuga, Indiana on June 29, with a regular points paying event the night before. Joe McGurer and Eric Wheelwright were triple winners, with Brodie Bennett, Levi Peters, and Wade Schultz claiming two titles each. McGurer’s first win came in the 600cc class. His first round 3.847 second time on the 155 foot three stage hill would have been good for the win, but he wanted the Fast Time award and sailed over the top in 3.787 seconds on his second ride to move up on the Fast Time bubble, slipping under Eric Wheelwright. Joe did win the class, but lost out on the fast time award, as Wade Schultz flew his big Suzuki four banger over in a sizzling 3.706 seconds on his second ride in the Open class. Matt Peters and Jared McKay were second and third in the 600cc class. McGurer’s second win came in the Open Stock class where he again had the two best times in the class, posting a 4.188 second time on his first ride and following it with a 4.087 second run. Mike Pulver was second in 4.288 seconds with Tate Pearson third.
McGurer did have the satisfaction of beating Schultz in the one run King of the Hill class for the ten fastest riders of the day. Schultz sailed over in a good 3.938 seconds, but McGurer flew his KX500 over in 3.807 seconds to take the coveted King award. Eric Wheelwright was third with a 3.989 second run. Wheelwright had an excellent day, winning the 250cc, 450cc and 600cc Four Stroke classes. His first round 3.878 second time in the 250cc class was good for that win, with McGurer second in 3.930 seconds and Matt Peters third. Eric used his super fast KTM450 to win both the 450cc and 600cc Four Stroke classes. His 3.838 second first round ride in the 450cc class was good for that class win, and also fast time to that point of the day. Kirk Gorsuch was fast with a 3.874 second time for second place with Chris Brown close behind him with a 3.888 second time. Wheelwright continued his fast running in the 600cc Four Stroke class with a 3.840 second time on his first ride, with Gorsuch again close behind him in 3.892 seconds. Troy Camerer was third. In Youth class action, Brodie Bennett claimed the wins in both the 65cc and 85Jr classes. His 5.102 second run was good for the 65cc class win with Kane Brown second and Jaydn Aliprandini third. He posted a 5.006 second time to win the 85Jr class with Mitch Moran second and Aliprandini

Sugar Maple gets “one” done Hill Point, Wisconsin - June 28 By Dave Hollub
T
he pattern so far this summer has been hot and humid or torrential downpours, so as the weekend approached everyone had their fingers crossed for some good weather. Friday about 50 riders showed up at Sugar Maple MX to test themselves and their equipment as they got ready for a District 16 points doubleheader. As usual Jason Erdmann prepped the track to perfection, and Saturday morning 240 entries were ready to head out for practice. When racing started everyone knew the track would be fast and rough. Justin Oehlhof got a huge jump when the gate dropped for 65cc and soon had a good sized lead on the rest of the class. Aidan McCormick was running second with Mitchell Malaney and Gage Neubauer close behind. By the time lap one was over, Malaney had edged in front of McCormick. Each lap put Malaney closer to Oehlhof until on lap three he was in striking distance. Malaney slipped by Oehlhof and held on for the win. In moto two Oehlhof again was first through the holeshot but this time had both Malaney and McCormick right on his rear wheel. Malaney went to work right away and was out front by the time they passed the scoring tower to complete the first lap. Malaney never looked

back the rest of the moto. Oehlhof held on in a solid second while McCormick cruised in third. Malaney’s 1/1 day was perfect for the overall with Oehlhof (2/2) second. Ty Tyrrell was pretty much untouchable today in the A classes as he won all four of his motos. In Open A he was out front from the gate drop and after some first lap pressure from Arick Abraham and Kyle Hameister, he opened up a gap then cruised to an +40 class winner Doug Forstner easy win. Colton the time the white flag was out he had Karl got a bad start and was fifth the first worked his way up to fourth with Benjamin time around the Daytona corner, but passed Schweighardt close behind. Also my Great Grandma, she just passed away but she got to see me race when she was 100 years old, I miss her.” Kendra Tutt had a good sized lead around the Daytona corner on lap one of Women’s first moto. Dawn Cox was in second with Haley Leonhardt and Dana Hanna close behind. Cora Leonhardt was on the move after a poor start, and by the midway point of the first lap had passed both Hanna and
Haley Leonhardt. Cox was able to close in on Tutt, but no matter how much pressure she applied, Tutt stayed out front. Tutt was again leading off the moto two holeshot, but this time Cox was right on her back wheel looking for a way around. Haley and Cora Leonhardt were once again battling but Haley Leonhardt was forced out with a mechanical. Cora Leonhardt took over third with Hanna in fourth. Cox was able to slip past Tutt before lap two was scored and then held on to the lead to the checkers, despite constant pressure from Tutt. Moto math gave Cox the overall with her 2/1 day while Tutt (1/2) was second and Cora
Leonhardt (3/3) was third. Jeff Mclain was out front of the Senior +50 class at the holeshot, but lost his front end in a rut and went down. Jeff Ramsay took over the lead and by the time Mclain was back up he was at the back of the pack. Ed Smulders started out in fourth but moved up a spot as he passed Bob Brown in the roller section. On the next time through the rollers Doug Ninneman slipped past Brown but they both were now being pushed by a hard charging Mclain as he quickly moved through the pack. Mclain was charging, and by the time he rounded the Daytona on lap three he was into third and closing in on Smulders. When the white flag flew Mclain was into second but couldn’t catch Ramsay in the remaining time. Ramsay grabbed the moto two holeshot but Mclain was soon out front and had opened enough breathing room that he cruised to the eventual moto win. Ramsay held on in second with Smulders and then Ninneman finishing the top four. The overall went to Mclain with a 2/1 day while Ramsay (1/2) was second. When the gate dropped for 250B Austin Hamburgur edged out Mat Herrington for the holeshot, and Eric Anderson
was just ahead of Nicholas Czechowicz. Herrington got the lead when Hamburgur went down in the corner just before the rollers on lap two. Herrington cruised to the moto win while Anderson successfully held off Czechowicz. Hamburgur was again at the front in moto two. Herrington was being pushed hard by Czechowicz and Anderson was in striking distance back in fourth. Herrington and Czechowicz caught up to Hamburger midway through lap three but were unable to get past him. Herrington (1/2) took the overall with Czechowicz (3/3) second and Anderson (2/4) on the final step. With twenty-one riders lined up for 250C it looked to be an exciting race and in the end lived up to that. Max Steinhorst jumped into the lead off the start but by the time he hit the #3 jump Keegan Cummins and Brady Bill were running right on his rear fender. Bill made his move on Cummins and then passed Steinhorst in the east end. The three were still close enough to toss a blanket over until Steinhorst and Cummins went down after the rollers. Cummins was out for the day and Steinhorst was forced to limp to the finish at the rear of the pack. Trever

Deedon took over second with Logan Telfer and Hunter Schueller following close behind at the finish. Schueller got the jump in moto two and came around with Bill and Deedon right behind him. Bill made a pass stick on their first trip through the rhythm section by the road and he immediately started building a gap on everyone. Deedon was now working on getting past Schueller sticking a wheel in but just couldn’t make a pass stick until late in lap two. Telfer also got past Schueller. A perfect 1/1 day was what Bill needed for the overall as Deedon (2/2) finished second and Telfer (3/3) claimed the third spot. The racers finished Saturday looking forward to another day of racing on Sunday. Unfortunately the torrential rains returned at about midnight and washed away any chance of having a rideable track. Fox Valley D16/17 Hare Scrambles Wedron, Illinois - July 20 Photos by Andrew Shaw & Don McDonald
R
umors around the web were that a couple fast boys were in the area and doing a local hare scrambles race. Unlike many internet rumors, this one turned out to be true. Jason Thomas and Mike Heresco showed up, they both are nationally ranked off-road racers with impressive accomplishments. But like any race, no matter how much hype there is, they have to strap on the helmet, start their machine and compete like all the rest. Stacked. This is what many were talking about around the pits. Thirteen AA riders and a dozen Open A riders - all raring to go. Standing at the barrels the first group of riders coming through was the second line! Meaning half of the A class was ahead of AA, which started first. All hell broke loose as we all knew something wasn't going right, but after that wave of riders came and went it was clear that six had found a trail they shouldn't

have. Jason Thomas (97) was first through as the leader (discounting the 6) with Mark Heresco (98) on his heels. Local hot rod Chase Robinson was in the mix, and last year’s District 17 AA Champion Austin Wells was right behind. Ryan Moss, Shane Klimek, Matt Dissell, District 16's fast Jd Friebel, Robert Kau, Kyler Vance and D17’s Travis Ward. It was abundantly clear the fast boys came to win, setting a blistering pace that only Robinson was able to keep up with at the beginning. But like any endurance type of race, things started to change. Thomas who arguably the fastest person down Rock Creek that we have ever seen was experiencing some kind of ignition issues and after pulling a forty second lead in three laps, he returned back to the truck for repairs. This left Heresco and Chase Robinson to do battle. Robinson wasn't intimidated with the newcomer’s stardom, and rode hard to take over the lead. Heresco wasn't going to have the local keep him out of the lead either. All the time, there was some excellent racing going on clear back to tenth place! Wells hit the dirt dropping back, allowing Moss, Dissel, and Klimek to jump on that opportunity. Klimek slowly got his Suzuki hooking up and pulling away, leaving Moss, Dissell and Wells to push each other. Ward and Kyler Vance were also pushing to get back towards the front. Dissell also started his trek to the front. First displacing Ward, then Moss, and looking to reel in Wells. Late in the race the leaders were neck and neck,
Robinson and Heresco side by side no one giving an inch. At the end Heresco capitalized on a last lap miscue by Robinson and won by fifty seconds. After that the rest of the top eight were less then twenty seconds apart from one position to another. After almost two hours this is almost unheard of. Consistency today was clear, and they all rode solid. District 16's JD Friebel was also in the first corner pile up, who then charged to a top ten position. This entire day was about some solid riders competing and doing exceptionally well. Garrett Ward pulled the SuperMini holeshot, and Tanner Whipple did the same in his 85cc class. They were staggered by thirty seconds. Ward led for a while and seemed to slow, while Whipple was charging through Supermini riders. Colton Zuidema was uncharacteristically blowing corners and making mistakes. Ward took the win in Supermini over Zuidema, but was thirty seconds behind Whipple. Whipple showed excellent follow through and commitment to racing til the end, and not being distracted. Women's class which runs in the morning with the kids has been one of the strongest classes out of all of them at FVOR. RCR's Kim Chandler returning late last year, Service Honda's Nikki Dixon who now has an adorable little girl watching mommy, and Autumn Torres (435) who has stepped it up to shine with the best of them. The Roland family, Allison, Autumn Franklin, and Kristy Roland this mother daughter trio has been a main stay in the class for a few years. Katie Parker in the mix and returning from softball tournaments Kelly Christman. Briann Stocklen (formerly Stiles) known for MX and Sx. Noticeably absent after an injury Gretchen Orme who was actually scoring the event. Racing in this class was intense. Missy Northon holeshots the class, with
SuperMini holeshot with Garrett Ward leading.

the first lap to take the lead. Now the race is on, each making miscues letting the other pass then returning the favor. Someplace on the east side Stocklen got off course and did what they call a "hot lap" which is much faster then any of the others. Losing that lap shuffled the top four and Chandler won with Dixon and Torres filling the podium. Looks like as this season progresses there will be some solid racing in the Women's class, and it will fun to see how it all plays out. Quad classes have been running with a solid twenty riders lately which is up dramatically. +30 class had Brad Holder return to battle with the dual class rider Brian Wittersheim. (Brian also rides an afternoon bike class). Today Holder was hard to handle and won going away. Wittersheim was the other +30 rider to manage nine laps as Kevin Johnson came in with eight. It was another successful race at FVOR. Not record numbers, but solid counts in most classes. Next events at Fox Valley Off Road is rnd 4 HS in August and the grand finale in September with a GP/HS double header. he Mente farm on Mountain Road, just west of Baraboo, Wisconsin is home of some of the most challenging Trials terrain in the Midwest. Trials Master Jim Voigtlander took full advantage of the numerous rocks to set up the July 19th and 20th events, that took the riders and equipment to their limits. The most experienced riders compete in the Champ Class. Dave Rohrschneider (the 2014 National Trials champion in the +50 class) used his superior skills to take first place both days. In the Expert class Bryan Moenssen came out on top both days. The Advanced class had Rob Walters taking the top spot on Saturday. Rob was competing in his second event since being away from the sport more than thirty years. He endured some equipment challenges, like a split rear tire half way thru the event. Dave Rohrschneider was there shortly after it happened and jumped in to help him change it using a spare he had in his trailer. Rob later stated, “There are not too many sports where a national champion will take the time to fix a newbies problems. On Sunday Ryan Rivenbergh topped his sister, Kailey by only two points to take the Advanced class win. The Intermediate class was topped both days by twelve year old Mitch Littlefield. He is improving his skills fast, and will be one to watch in the next few years.
Mitch Littlefield won Intermediate both days.
