CMJ Raceway celebrates 25th anniversary. 2013 marks twenty-five years since brothers Chris and Matt Halverson started running races at the always popular Hixton, WI facility. In addition to a number of other events, they are having a single District 16 motocross race on June 2, with the anniversary celebration starting Saturday afternoon. In typical CMJ Raceway fashion, there will be campfires, music, and plenty of reminiscing with friends from several generations of Hixton racing, enjoying the evening before the season’s highlight event. Everyone is encouraged to come enjoy the family fun weekend, and share old memories as well as help create some new ones. After a lot of encouragement, we are now entering into the racing stage of our business. Just a quick look at how we got to the point of having a riding facility and now a race track. The first part of the puzzle is our one spoiled son. It truly is amazing what you will do for your kids, especially when they love a sport so much and his focus is solid. Never setting foot on a track till six months after we opened our doors, we have come a long way over the years. We have listened to our riders, and have continued to grow and improve as time goes on. We believe that it is not only the riding and racing, but it is the relationships you build along the way. Collectively, they make our sport what it is. We are noted for our rutty, tractable conditions which work well with the step-ups, step-downs, doubles, triples, sweepers, sand and wood chip sections. All come together for a track that flows and is fun. Beginners to Pros have enjoyed our track which caters to a wide array of skill levels. Our season starts with a GP in May, and then new for this season, Motocross events, hosting five events for 2013. A little bit more fun for the day, Ki Tracks has a fully functional go-kart track. The kids love this, between motos they head over and take some hot laps on the asphalt ¼ mile go-kart track! All the things are coming together, and we will be ready to drop the gate soon and let the fun begin. Think about adding us to your race schedule. We bet you will enjoy your day. We are looking forward to being a part of your racing future.

Second try at Jordan works

Jordan, Minnesota – April 26 By Jamie Theis Photos by Matt Wellumson

W

ith yet another snow storm on Monday, it looked like the second attempt at the Jordan SX opener was not going to happen. Thanks to the Motokazie crew and their hard work, along with a little help from Mother Nature, the track was in great condition by Friday night. It felt great to be outside and at the track again, finally. Over 350 people, from all over the tri-state area, turned out to enjoy the sunshine, warm breeze, and some great racing action. The youth riders were especially excited to race and the 65cc 7-9 class proved that in their main event. Ten riders and their dads lined up at the gate for the four lap race. A lot of the riders had moved up to the 65’s from the peewee classes, and this was their first race in this new class. Timmy Kristiansen of Le Center, MN was the 2012 Motokazie Supercross Premix Champ, now riding his first 65cc race at Jordan SX. Noah Miesen of St. Paul was the 2012 Oil Injected Champ, and he was also riding his first 65cc race. These two champs were up against some serious competition and they knew it. When the gate dropped it was Walker Krampitz of Waseca, with the holeshot. Right on his tail was Cameron Skaalerud of Waconia. The first lap order was Krampitz, Skaalerud, Nolyn Hempel (Algona, IA), Carter Anderson, Kristiansen, Cody Magin, Riley Renner (Klemme, IA), Chase Hazlett, Carter Buckentine and Miesen. Just like in the heat, Krampitz broke away from the pack, and maintained a comfortable lead for the race. The real action was in the second through fifth place positions. In the

second lap Skaalerud made a mistake and lost four positions, Hempel took second. Magin had started in sixth; but was on a mission to hunt down Krampitz, and by the second lap he was in third. When that white flag came out, the racers turned up the action. Kristiansen, in his first ride on a new bike, found

some power and courage to pass Anderson and Hempel. Magin moved his way up to second and was reeling in Krampitz at the tunnel jump just before the checkered flag. The finish order was Krampitz, Magin, Kristiansen, Anderson, Skaalerud, Renner, Hempel, Hazlett, Buckentine, and Miesen. In the 250C class, it looked like a new rider had arrived to challenge the 2012 Motokazie Champ, Jeremy Wall of Mountain Lake, MN. After taking a year off from racing, Erik Busch of Cresco, IA, was back and ready to race. In the heat, Busch took the holeshot and led for the first two laps. In the second lap however, he crashed and finished last, also sitting out the main event with bike problems. Wall started seventh in the heat; but by the second lap he had moved up to second... eventually going on to win. In the main event, Wall took the holeshot and led the entire race. Similar to the 65s, the 250C racing action was took place in the second thru fourth place positions. With Wall getting the holeshot, the first lap order was Wall, Aaron Sperling (Chaska, MN), Josh Weis (Hutchinson) and Cody Wroe (Faribault). Wroe was the 2012 Motokazie SX 85cc 12-15 champ; and this was his first race in the 250C class. Weis was also just moving up from the 85’s. In the second lap Wroe jumped past Weis at

the grandstand eighty foot triple. In the third lap Wroe passed Sperling though the whoops for second. Sperling held off Weis for the last lap to take the third place finish. The final order was be Wall, Wroe, Sperling, Weis, Nick Hernen, Brock Norberg, and Bo Schuette rounding off the top seven. Next events at Jordan will be practice and racing on May 4th and May 18th, and a race school and racing on May 31st. Check out www.motokazie.com for complete details. Racers conquer cold at Keithsburg Keithsburg, Illinois - March 24 By Kylie Kelsall

T

he weekend of March 24th, WFO hosted the first race of the season in Keithsburg, Illinois. This race was supposed to take place March 10th, but due to inclement weather it had to be rescheduled. Even through the changes, complications, and freezing weather, nothing could change the minds of the dedicated families that came out to race today. Everyone was excited and ready to get the racing started. A little snow, cold and non summerlike weather didn’t change that determination... and plenty of great racing developed all day. The 65cc Beginners class started off the day with Gaige Kramer leading the first lap with Parker Townsend, Evan Kellett, and Lake Plowman not far behind. By the second lap Kramer was still in first place, and holding strong. Townsend continued in second as Kellett did in third. The change came when Plowman dropped five positions, allowing Jacklyn Bowles to move up to fourth. The rest of the race was pretty consistent until the last two laps when Townsend slipped to third, Kellett moved to forth, and Bowles pushed ahead to finish second. The 65cc class started with Tommy Fortune (6) in first. He was the only 65cc rider to have a ten minute lap, and the only rider to put in five laps. Conner Mabus wasn’t far behind though as he held onto second with

Conditions didn’t keep the riders from delivering plenty of good close racing.

Jace Kelsall races as bundled up spectators in the background show how cold and wet it was.

Derik Tippie and Matthew Horsman third and fourth. The 50’s were next, combining the 4-6 and 7-8 year olds. The first lap started off with Carson Kellett leading Elijah Berryman, Lake Plowman and Zachery Johnson in forth. During the second lap Plowman moved up to first, while Kellett dropped to forth. Lap three saw more place changes as Berryman pulled ahead into first where he would stay the rest of the race. Plowman dropped to second, and Ryan Wessels stepped up to third behind the 7-8 year old racers. The rest of the race Gavin Kramer battled with the big boys, fighting Johnson until the end. That put Kramer in first for the 4-6 and Johnson in third for the 7-8 year olds. Ta n n e r Whipple (29) dominated the 85cc class even though he ran in second behind Colten Zuidema for the first two laps. Whipple re-

deemed himself by the third lap. His lap times staying consistent at around ten minutes the entire race where as his competitors were in the eleven minute range. TJ Nees placed third at the end over Bren Lawrenz, Doug Propper, and Robert Bland who all competed very well in the snow covered sand. In the Women’s class the competition was between Autumn Franklin, Carley Foxall, and BriAnn Stiles (34). Stiles and Foxall battled the first lap, but by the second lap Stiles came across a minute ahead of Foxall. The last two laps she pulled ahead another two minutes per lap. Franklin stayed in third for the race. During the Supermini class Cody Barnes held off Nolan Blaesing and Jacob Rossmiller the whole race. He pulled through with a three minute lead on Blaesing on the last lap for the win. The C classes were very interesting as the snow started to fall even harder. Sam Hammelman won Open C. In the 200C class Matt McDonald got first ahead of Branden Housenga and Colin Lyon. McDonald after the race, “I’d say the most challenging part was the sand whoops. As always they get deeper every year, but the people at WFO did a good job on finding a new smooth trail. I like Keithsburg even more when it isn’t snowing.” Cody Toal won Open B, staying close to his competitor Logan Nelson early. In the third lap Toal bridged a two minute gap between them to take the win. In 200B, Wyatt Barnett battled with Ethan Olson for first. Barnett gave it one last push at the end and came in first, three minutes ahead of Olson. CYCLE USA, May 2013

AA rider Austin Wells.

Open A class winner Luke Watters.

Luke Watters took the Open A win. Watters started off quick with his first lap coming in at nine minutes. He stayed consistent, pushing his competitor JJ Beighle to keep up. Watters gained some time on Beighle in the seventh lap. Beighle ended up in third as Andrue Remley moved up to second late in the race. AA’s winner Adam Bonneur had the same lap times as Tyson Emery, Jeremy Smith, and Ryan Lenth until the third lap when he gained a minute on the rest of the riders. He continued to gain time on the others and finished six minutes ahead of Emery. Quads raced last, in the worst of the weather conditions. In the C class Shane Austin held first the whole race. He made a twelve minute lap time his first lap, and held consistent over Dakota Crose and Phil Snelson. Quad B started with Bryan Bunge and Nick Barden turning in close laps, but by the third lap Bunge had gained time as David Johnson fought Barden and got the second place position. Bunge continued to stay in first for the rest of the race, and was the only B rider to finish seven laps. The A class started with Chad Hutchinson and Riley Brueggeman pushing each other in the snowy weather. By the forth lap Kyle Burnham moved into second. Hutchinson stayed 12

Gate Drops on 2013 Nuke Series Byron Illinois - April 7 By Josh Rud www.ShiftOnePhotography.com

T

he weather that has been effecting everything the beginning of this season seemed to find its way around Motosports Park at just the right time. Aaron Vincer had the Byron track all prepped and ready to on race weekend as usual. It was dry, and they actually needed to put down some water a couple times through-out the day. The sun was shining and park was packed, a lot of riders from out of state made their way to the track to get a feel for everything they will be running for the Loretta’s regional that Motosports Park has secured this season. The day was jammed with thirty-two motos spread across the main and legacy track. Racing got underway in the morning starting with 85Sr. In moto one Benjamin Adamson out of Minnesota took the win with Jaden Wertz and Charels Anderson rounding out the top three. The second moto got under way with Wertz out of Iowa taking the holeshot followed closely by Benjamin Adamson and Jacob Jesko.

Adamson quickly jumped into the lead coming up to the first set of jumps with Anderson moving up a spot and Nickolas Lorenz pushing into third. Wertz was still in the mix with everyone coming down the hill, and moved up to third and zeroed in Anderson. Coming through the sweeper Wertz passed into second place as Adamson was starting to develop a good lead. Adamson took the win along with the overall for the day, Wertz finished second overall as Anderson filled the podium in third. Open C lined up next with sixteen riders packing into the gates. In the first moto Colten Burk took the win joined by Sawyer Schmidtman and Nathan Lange. Moto two was up later in the day, when the gate dropped Burk came out of the gate flying to grab the holeshot. Not far behind was Matthew Dziubinski and Bradon Larson. The three battled it out through the first lap, but coming through the sweeper Joshua Hove took the inside from Larson, moving up to third and charging for Dziubinski. Up on the hill Dziubinski went down moving Hove up to second and Sawyer Schmidtman third. They

were able to hold out for the rest of the race leaving Burk with the overall. Schmidtman took second overall (2-3) and David Rogers took third overall with a sixth and a fourth in the second moto. 250B was a packed house today with twenty-eight riders lining up for battle. In the first moto Travis Prier out of Iowa took the win followed by Mark Marincic and Dakin Coons. Coming off the line in moto two Coons took the holeshot with

Kaleb Carman attacks the sand on his way to third in 85Jr.

Ricki Williams in second and Collin Yenerich in third. Heading around the third turn Marincic got a line on Yenerich to take over third, and begin charging for Williams. Coons was on a mission after the third place in the moto one and was starting to move out into a good lead, taking clean lines and keeping it on two wheels. Meanwhile Nick Inman was charging up through the pack after getting caught in traffic off the start. Showing great style he was picking them

off left and right, and moved up to third, finally passing Williams late in the moto. From there the order up front didn’t change leaving Coons out front for the win and the overall. Marincic put in a solid day going 2-2 for second overall, and Prier made it up to fifth to secure third overall after winning moto one. The 65cc class was stacked with riders out of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, all coming to Byron to get in some racing as their hometown areas where either too wet, frozen, or simply not even planned for racing yet. In 65Sr Dj Gritzmacher out of Wisconsin took the win in moto one, followed by Jaxon Opitz and Kaleb Carman. The gate dropped on moto two with Gritzmacher taking the holeshot. Josh Fedder, Izaih Clark and Carman where right on his heels as they headed toward the first jump. Gritzmacher was able to hold them off for a lap, but Fedder got around him in the sand whoops to take over the lead, leaving Clark battling to hold on for third place across the line. Gritzmacher took the overall with a first and second. Fedder finished second overall with a seventh in the first moto to go along with that second moto win. Conner Burger took third overall with fourth in both motos. The great battles continued in Open A with twenty riders lining up, ready to take it to the edge. In the first moto Drew Yenerich coming off of riding the Nationals last year took the win, with Jonathon Six and Zach

Coons behind him. The gate dropped on the second moto as they were flying to the first hay bale, Vini Provenzano had the holeshot with Yenerich and Ty Tyrrell right behind him. Through the first turn Yenerich took the outside and the lead as Provenzano held off Tyrrell. Yenerich riding smooth as ever, took off from the pack as Tyrrell found a line around Provenzano with Coons following right behind him to take over third place. Justin Kelly was on a charge and made up to fourth as time ran out and they crossed the line with Yenerich taking the win and the overall. Tyrrell took second overall (4-2). Supermini was looking great out there today, so many fast riders lining up for the chance at victory. In moto one Benjamin Adamson took the win followed by Jaden Wertz and Dylan Boyd. The second moto got under way with eighteen riders firing off the line. Adamson was looking great all day, riding several classes and took the holeshot with Wertz and Jarred Berggren in his wake. Wertz was keeping up with Adamson looking for a chance to pass while Charels Anderson made his way into the mix, passing Berggren for third. They kept this position coming across the line giving Adamson the overall for the day. Wertz took second overall and Nickolas Lorenz took third overall, running a fourth and a fifth. It was a great Nuke season opener, with so many riders showing up the battles were great CYCLE USA, May 2013

for everyone in attendance. The track has also received a bit of an overhaul, taking out some sections like the hairpin around the tree. Dungey captures hometown win in Supercross’ return to Minneapolis Minneapolis, Minnesota - April 13 Photos courtesy of Frank Hoppen, hoppenworld.com

M

onster Energy AMA Supercross made its return to Minneapolis’ Hubert Humphrey Metrodome on Saturday night for the first time since the 2008 season. A crowd of 48,846 was on hand for the 14th race of the season to watch Minnesota native Ryan Dungey, from nearby Belle Plaine, outduel Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto for his second victory of the season. In the 250 class, Marvin Musquin made it a sweep for Red Bull KTM by claiming his fourth win in five races with a wire-to-wire effort. MotoConcepts Racing’s Mike Alessi grabbed the holeshot award to open the 450 class main event, but it didn’t take long for Villopoto, the championship leader, to take over the lead. Dungey followed past Alessi moments later and set the stage for a captivating twenty-lap main event. Villopoto and Dungey set a strong pace early and eventually opened a lead over Rockstar Energy’s Davi Millsaps in third place. They stayed about a second apart for the first fifteen laps before Dungey gained ground when he and Villopoto encountered lappers. On lap sixteen, Dungey got alongside Villopoto and took over the lead crossing the finish as the crowd erupted. The duo kept the crowd on its feet when Villopoto passed Dungey back for the top spot

just after the start straight. Dungey moved alongside Villopoto after the track’s first rhythm section and they stayed that way for a third of a lap before Dungey reclaimed the position for good, earning his thirteenth-career 450 class win. “Man, what a ride,” said Dungey, who finished second at the last Monster Energy Supercross race in Minneapolis. “Ryan and I put on a hard charge and he kept me honest the whole way. It’s been a while since I’ve been on top of box, but, man, in front of all these fans it was amazing. We could hear them out there. It was pretty loud and I’ve never felt anything like it. This is amazing to win in front of the home crowd, and I never could have dreamed something like this.” Villopoto carried a five-race winning streak into the evening, but the runner-up finish still gives him first or second-place results over the last eight weeks. “Me and Ryan (Dungey) had a hell of a race out there,” said Villopoto. “The fans were unbelievable. I knew they were rooting

fter an intense three-rider battle that lasted the entire main event, Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto secured his third consecutive Supercross Championship, on Saturday night in Salt Lake City. Villopoto needed his 450 class-leading ninth win of the season, and the 33rd win of his career, in order to achieve the feat. KTM's Ryan Dungey was the first rider out of the gate, with Villopoto alongside. The champion wasted little time in making a pass on Dungey for the lead and then set a torrid pace over the opening laps to open a two-plus second advantage. Millsaps got alongside Dungey on lap two and made the pass for second. Eventually Millsaps and Dungey closed the gap on Villopoto following the halfway point. Millsaps had an opportunity to make a move for the lead, but Villopoto withstood the pressure to clinch the title on a high note. "It's unreal," said Villopoto, who tied his career best total of nine wins in a season. "It was a crazy race and the track was really technical. Any little mistake would make it anyone's game. We started the season off really rough and had a lot of stepping stones to overcome, but we did it as a team and we did it well." CYCLE USA, May 2013

tough, which made it one-lined in some areas, and that allowed Ryan to see where I was going and try something else. It was a good night overall.” Millsaps rounded out the podium in third and lost some ground in the championship. Villopoto maintained his points lead heading into his home race next weekend and now sits twenty-two points ahead of Dungey, who moved past Millsaps into second. In the 250 class main event, Musquin took the lead out of the first corner to claim the holeshot. Behind him, several riders jockeyed for position with Honda’s Wil Hahn, the championship leader, and Rockstar Energy Racing’s Blake Wharton assuming second and third, respectively. Shortly thereafter, Hahn and Wharton began to battle for position, which allowed Musquin to open a significant gap over the field. Hahn eventually put some distance on Wharton for second, while Kawasaki’s Tyler Bowers, the reigning threetime Arenacross champion, closed in on third. Bowers made an aggressive pass on Wharton on lap two, but the two stayed mere bike

lengths apart. On lap seven, Wharton gained an advantage coming out of the whoops and moved inside Bowers heading into the following turn. Bowers attempted to maintain his line, causing the two to make contact and sending Bow-

ers to the ground. He remounted in fifth and would remain there for the remainder of the race. Musquin led all fifteen laps and won by more than eight seconds. “It’s a great day,” exclaimed Musquin. “I was fastest in practice, I won my heat race, and I won the main with the holeshot. It was a perfect day and a great feeling. I just try to win and don’t worry about what happens. I didn’t make any mistakes and got the holeshot, then I did my best.” Hahn finished second. “I’ve been strong and been confident. I’m bummed I haven’t been able to get a win, but it was still a good night. We have the points lead and we’re ready to go win this thing in Vegas. Hahn’s lead in the Eastern Regional 250 class championship now sits at five points over Musquin as both riders search for their first career Supercross titles. The riders will take a break from competition for the next two weeks before returning to action on Saturday, May 4, for the season finale in Las Vegas. Westby seeks redemption at Road America and other parts are laid out. I like how you can come flying into the corners and the fans are right there. It's just special. I like how those old-style tracks are laid out." "Timing is everything. I was lucky things weren't worse. Thanks to the long break between the first and second races this year, I was able to get healthy again without losing my opportunity to contend for the championship. I can't wait for my fresh start at Road America." E

ver since he was old enough to walk, GEICO Motorcycle Honda Daytona SportBike rider Dane Westby has spent at least part of his day on two wheels in one way or another. It's a fact that has made the last month and a half so excruciating for the 26-year-old Oklahoman following a crash at Daytona that damaged his spleen and severely limited his activity while he healed. "The inability to ride made me feel worse as I got better," Westby said. "It was easier to handle when I was in pain and knew I needed to rest. It wasn't very long before I wasn't in pain and wanted to ride. Those days and weeks were long for me. Westby said he was looking forward to his chance in the spotlight riding for new sponsor, and he was expecting great things from the weekend at Daytona International Speedway. This year's season-opening event dawned cooler than in years past, which caused problems for most of the riders in the field. Westby was one of a couple dozen riders in all classes who crashed during practice, but he wasn't going to let a little adversity get him down. "I went in with a lot of confidence," Westby said. "Daytona and I normally get along pretty well. The cold temperatures caught me off guard. I wasn't really ready for it and I don't like racing in the cold. The tire was just so cold it did not want to grip at all. The crash itself was minor, but I held on to the bike." By holding on, instead of rider and cycle separating the bike bounced into Westby's midsec-

tion. "Usually if something is hurting, like a broken bone, you do your best to ride through it," Westby said. "It's exactly what I thought I was going to get to do. We spent what seemed like forever waiting for the test and diagnosis. Afterward, we tried to find another doctor who could clear me to ride. "They all told me, 'You don't understand, if your spleen were to burst you could bleed to death in less than 10 minutes.' That was an eye-opener for me." Dealing with injury is a part of racing motorcycles, but this injury was nothing like Westby had ever encountered before. "I dealt with broken bones and stuff in the past," Westby said. "Everything seemed to be going pretty well with this injury until they saw the problem with my spleen." "To help fill the time, I've been doing some light work remodeling my house," Westby said. "I've been doing a lot of spackling and things of that nature trying to get the house done. There's a lot to do and it's not too exhausting to put spackle on the wall. I was moving around slowly working on a project here and there." On the day he was finally cleared, Westby's thoughts immediately turned from home improvement to self-improvement and preparing to resume his season at Road America. "I like that track so much," Westby said. "I've been on the podium there before. It's an older style of track with the way its corners

SportBike and SuperSport. Each class has a race on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. A special Harley-Davidson class, the XR1200 Series, will race on Sunday prior to the second round for SuperSport, Sport Bike and SuperBike. All seven races provide fans with up-close viewing of one of the world’s most intense forms of motorsports. In addition to the racing action, fans with motorcycles are encouraged to pre-register for a unique Salute to Cycles’ on-track riding experience . The Salute to Cycles provides participants with the rare opportunity to ride Road America and develop a true appreciation for the undulating road course where pro racers battle it out for glory and fame. Pre-race ceremonies include a fan walk, which allows fans out on the grid to see the bikes and get rider autographs. Other fan activities include public karting and a supermoto exhibition race at the Blain’s Farm & Fleet Motorplex, shows by stunt rider Jason Britton and the Dairyland Classic flat track races on Friday night in nearby Plymouth, WI. Peters best at Hillclimb Opener Neoga, Illinois -April 20/21 By Bud Northup, Photos by Doug Poe & Martha Peters

The Central Illinois Motorcycle Club opened the 2013 hillclimb season for Districts 17 with a weekend doubleheader at their club grounds near Neoga, Illinois. Matt Peters emerged as the dominant rider of the weekend, claiming six class wins as well as the Fast Time award both days. He took the wins in the 600cc 4Stroke and 600cc classes Saturday night, with his 2.830 second run on his KX500 to win the 600cc class also earning him the Fast Time award. On Sunday, Peters took three class wins - the 450cc, 600cc 4Stroke and +40 classes. His 2.856 second time on the 107 foot hill was also the fast time. He took a fourth class win in the King of the Hill class, a special one run, winner takes all class for

the ten fastest riders of the day. Eric Wheelwright was the first rider in the ‘King’ runoff, and posted a very good 2.965 second time. But that time didn’t hold up long, as Peters blitzed the hill in a sizzling 2.795 seconds, the only sub 2.8 second run of the weekend. Andy Fortner was his closest challenger with a very quick 2.892 second run, with Jared McKay third in 2.913 seconds. Jon Creek was fourth with Wheelwright settling for fifth. Peter’s perfect day Sunday was ruined by Joe McGurer in the 600cc class. McGurer won the class with a 2.860 second run on his KX500, beating Peters by a mere three thousandths of a second. In Youth class action, Clayton Hirsch took the Youth Fast Time award Saturday night with a 3.655 second time to win the 85Sr class. Derick Bell took the award on Sunday with a 3.632

second winning ride in 85Jr. ‘Little’ Andy Fortner was a triple class winner for the weekend, winning the 65cc class both days, as well as 85Jr on Saturday night. Morgan Wheelwright was a triple class winner as she took the wins in both the 125cc and 200cc classes Saturday night, then took the 200cc win again Sunday. She added three second places also, in the Women’s class both days and the 125cc class Sunday to give herself a very satisfying weekend. A change to the 2013 event will be the elimination of the 85cc Youth division, which has seen sparse attendance for many years. “We only have 2½ hours for our entire show, and the other divisions are experiencing record turnouts”, commented promoter Bert Sumner. “This, in addition to several more subtle changes, will give us more time to showcase Neoga results continued Women: 1.Shay Ashworth 2.Morgan Wheelwright 3.Lauren Shafer 4.Shelby Shafer 5.Liz Klett. 125cc: 1.Levi Peters 2.Morgan Wheelwright 3.Clayton Hirsch 4.Kyle Galloway 5.Reece Hutton. 200cc: 1.Morgan Wheelwright 2.Levi Peters 3.Dan Dawson 4.Keith Klett. 250cc: 1.Cody Brewington 2.Eric Wheelwright 3.Joe McGurer 4.Robert Fortner 5.Kyle Galloway. 450cc: 1.Matt Peters 2.Kirk Gorsuch 3.Eric Wheelwright 4.Dylan Brady 5.Jared McKay. 600 4St: 1.Matt Peters 2.Kirk Gorsuch 3.Jared McKay 4.Troy Camerer 5.Chuck Mathewson. 600cc: 1.Joe McGurer 2.Matt Peters 3.Jared McKay 4.Kirk Gorsuch 5.Andy Fortner. 750cc: 1.Kaleb Northrup OPN: 1.Steve Shafer. +40: 1.Matt Peters 2.Andy Fortner 3.Jon Creek 4.Eric Wheelwright 5.Kaleb Northrup. +50: 1.Mark Peters 2.Steve Shafer 3.Keith Klett. 400 St: 1.Kyle Galloway 2.Jon Creek 3.Marty Steinacher 4.Andy Fortner 5.Troy Camerer. Sumner adds, “I am very pleased with the growing interest that our Dairyland Vintage

has gotten recently, and it is fitting to link Al’s name to it.” All underage competitors planning to compete at the Dairyland should note the requirement for proper insurance authorization. The AMA implemented this rule in 2011 and it has been a non-negotiable requirement at the event ever since. There are three valid ways to demonstrate proper authorization: have both parents present at sign-up, have the AMA Minor Annual Release card in their possession, or have a completed, notarized, color copy of the AMA Minor Annual Release form to be turned in at sign-up. Minors competing in the Pro/ Expert division are held to this requirement as well. Grandstands open at 5pm when qualifying begins. An autograph session begins at 6:15pm, and the racing action begins at 7:15pm. The entire program is completed by 10pm. Grandstand seats are available for $10 or less, with discounted advance tickets available at Hoban Brothers in Osman, Route43 Harley-Davidson in Sheboygan, West Bend Harley-Davidson in West Bend, and Hal’s Harley-Davidson in New Berlin. O

nce again the Midwest Enduro season was kicked off by the Grand Kankakee Trail Riders (GKTR) in Roselawn, IN. The Sand Booger and Sand Goblin offer a perfect location to hold the season opener since the terrain is mostly sand. This year proved this was the perfect location. While most of the Midwest was under water (and some still covered in snow), Roselawn, IN was picture perfect for enduro riders. The area had received just enough rain to allow the sand to pack in, and both days riders woke up to sunny skies. What else could you ask for! The Sand Booger Family Enduro is a great event that brings out dads, sons, moms, daughters, and even grand parents. It’s always great to see generations of families out riding and enjoying the sport together. One of the many families enjoying themselves was the Collins family; Shawne, Susan and Fletcher. All reported that they had a great day as a family and wanted to make sure to thank all the landowners and club members for helping make the memories possible. The Dixon family, Nikki and Red, although they were missing Kylie, but at a few months old she was home with Grandma. Having been pregnant and missing most of the 2012 season, Nikki was more excited to ride than most of the kids at the event. Even being off the bike for many months didn’t slow Nikki as she took the Women’s class win. This year’s Sand Booger was a ten mile loop that riders would ride three times (the younger classes only do a couple loops). The first loop was run at a 12mph average so it allowed the faster riders to practice time keeping skills and the new riders to ride at a comfortable pace. The next two loops the speed average was bumped up to 18mph. Both the first and second loop was split into two sections with a small break in the middle while the third loop was run as one section. The mix of speed averages and sections per loop made for a great setup for new riders and up and coming kids to learn the enduro world. After the event all you could see is smiles on everyone’s faces. One of the best parts is hearing the stories from both young and old about how they railed through this section, zeroed this check, clipped that tree, or the infamous “I can’t believe I burnt that check by five seconds”. Another great thing is seeing all the kids go up and collect their trophies, and once again the kids were getting handed

The third was much longer and had a mix of fast and flowing to tight and technical. After gas there was some confusion on route sheet times that caused some riders to arrive late to the test four check in. Test four ended up being thrown out because of this, too bad since it was a great section. The final section five was again longer and was a great way to end the day. Test five had a mix of everything for riders including some mud, not do or die mud, just enough to get dirty. At the end of the day there were a few surprises atop the leader board. LTM, D17 ProAm Opener Rocks S Casey, Illinois - March 31

eason openers are always exciting. It really doesn’t matter what the weather, or track conditions are, these are still season kick-off events, and well received regardless. Now mix in a long winter, but race day temps getting into the low 60’s, sunshine, perfect track conditions and you really have a special weekend going. That’s exactly the way everything played out at Lincoln Trail Motosports on the last weekend of March. Saturday had around 350 entries, and Easter Sunday had just under 300 for the ProAm race. Yes, it was the opening weekend, and Sunday was a ProAm with huge A classes.... forty in 250A, and thirty-one in Open A. This was the opening weekend all the riders, and any promoter dreams of. Racing was fantastic. Weather was just perfect... and the season was officially started. After a big day Saturday, we caught up with the racing on Sunday, and the 14-24 class had a dozen riders on the track as the first moto got under way. Right from the gate drop, Wisconsin’s Cody Williams took control as Nick Peterson quickly moved up to second. From there Williams and Peterson slowly put a gap on the rest of the class, holding the top two spots to the finish. Arick Abraham was in third for the first lap before Wood River, IL’s Ryan Hamilton made a move past him. They finished that way ahead of Giancarlo Clouser, Chance Trigalet and Indiana’s Nick Lasecki. Williams ran off with the second moto win as Peterson struggled, finishing back in

tenth. Jordan Buchanan didn’t have a great first moto, but made up for it finishing second this time out (9-2). Running super clean, Hamilton finished third again... for second overall ahead of Clouser (5-4). Justin Kelly won both motos of the +25 class. In the first moto Ryan Tracy worked his way up to second ahead of Suzuki mounted Ronnie Ford and Justin Brusseau. The order changed in the second moto as Brusseau finished second for second overall. Kentucky’s Aaron Teague finished third after a sixth in the first outing. Ryan Tracy settled for fifth, and third overall after a tough moto where Kelly ran out front each lap. Cody Williams on his Suzuki clearly is set for a great season, as he returned in the 250B class, and simply dominated. He started pulling a lead right from the start that only stretched through every lap. After the opening lap, the top couple spots behind him were locked in as Tyler Lowe was ahead of Mark Marincic and Parker Smith. As that group held their own, Wisconsin’s Jordan Schillen made a few moves, including a last lap pass into fifth after getting by Taylor Downs and Paxton Kerber. It looked easy for Williams out front in the second moto. Ryan Hamilton turned it up a notch and ran in second most of the moto before dropping to fourth in the late laps. Lowe was in contention, but a fall dropped him back into the pack. Marincic finished second ahead of Smith for second and third overall. Moto one of 250C had twenty-six riders dive into the first corner with Chance Trigalet

and Preston Pennington scraping plastic out of the corner and through much of the opening lap. As they crossed the line to finish the lap Trigalet held the lead, a few bike lengths ahead of Jacob Hill in third. Battling over fourth, Indiana’s Sam Sappington was holding off Chad Tyler and Bryce Cox, having the closest race on the track. As the laps ticked away, the three leaders held thier own as Sappington put a couple bike lengths on the others in fourth. In the closing laps Cox put his Yamaha into fifth. Tables turned in the second moto as Pennington got out front and Trigalet was in the chase position. These two pulled away from the others a little with each lap, and even though Trigalet rode hard, Pennington had a perfect moto, and took the win. It was good for the day’s overall as well. Hill spent the moto in third, and held off quite a charge from Andrew Hughes who really turned things around after finishing way back in the pack in the first moto (25-4). After winning both motos of the Open C class, ATVs and More backed Pennington commented on the final moto win of his day, having won three of four, “It went good today. I got good starts and rode smart to stay up. The track is pretty rough, but I’m riding good and really happy about how everything went.” The track was nearly perfect when the first ProAm class came to the starting line. Several lines in most of the corners... and just soft enough surface to allow for great racing. Perfect stage for a great show as a full forty riders left the gate in the 250A class. The pits were empty, as everyone expected some super fast racing. No one was disappointed! Riders from five states made up the class, and Illinois’ own Ty Tyrrell came through the wide open first turn to lead everyone. Colin Hickman out

The 85Sr class set an example for consistency... the top ten riders finished in the same positions in both motos, a first in my memory. Out front it was none other than LaMoille, IL’s fast guy Chase Sexton. Jayce Pennington, Anthony Wallace and Jason Gepford had close racing in both motos to finish just ahead of Zack Tatar in the top five. Kaile Williams swept both motos of the 85Jr class ahead of Derick Bell, Kole Medwid and Gunner Schmidgall. The Open Pro class was also unbelievable as thirty-one riders were entered. Tennessee rider Justin Ashburn took the early lead. Just after finishing the first lap he missed an inside line in a tight corner and Drew Yenerich made him pay for it, taking the lead position. Through the first couple laps the number of passes, and repasses through the pack proved just how good these riders were running. Southeast Sales KTM rider Vaughn Mays was running third as Tyson Humphrey was moving up, having went by Jacob Berger and Blake Copeland. Humphrey moved up to second, but then slid back a couple spots. Mays also wore down just a little as some of the other top runners advanced. Deprenger eventually worked up to finish fourth as Freund put in another monster climb through the pack to eventually finish second, as Yenerich was simply untouchable out front. Yenerich had is great start come from the far outside gate, proving the equality of the starting line design. “I seem to be getting Part of the Hall’s Husqvarna team running in the growing 125cc close to the last gate picks today, so I knew I class. of Iowa, Jacob Berger, and Brad Deprenger followed close as there was a mass of other fast riders working forward from in the pack. Berger made a nice pass on Hickman just after the first lap for second, and moving up fast from way back in the pack was Missouri’s Justin Freund. Berger then made a move past Tyrrell for the lead up on the top of the track. There were many fast riders all across the track, but the fastest laps were coming from Freund, as he had climbed his way up to third by the mid point of the third lap. Also coming on fast, but in a much more sneaky, less obvious way was #217 Suzuki mounted Drew Yenerich. Less than a lap later and Freund was out front and already starting to open a small lead. It held until the last lap. Surdyke KTM/ O’Neal/ JM Suspension backed Freund, “I got a decent start and was coming through the pack really well. I got into the lead and was going good, then just got cross-rutted and it flipped me over pretty hard. I was riding pretty aggressive, you have to, this is a pro class and everyone is riding really fast. You need to get creative with your lines, and that made a huge difference for me. The track is really good, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the day.” Freund’s fall dropped him back a ways. After getting up he made a few quick passes to finish fourth. Taking the impressive win was Deprenger ahead of Yenerich and Berger. Tyrrell settled into fifth ahead of Hickman.

Sugar Maple Opens D16 Season Hill Point, Wisconsin - April 21 By Dave Hollub

fter surviving another Wisconsin winter racers were itching to get out on the track, only to be stopped by a flooded Aztalan which set their dose of dirt back for a week. During that week nature threw a mix of weather at the state ranging from thunderstorms to snow. Jason Erdmann said he was going have Sugar Maple MX ready no matter what. The heavy rain fell for days but then Friday it let up enough for Erdmann to get the mud scraped off and jumps faced. On Saturday almost 200 riders showed up for a practice day, welcomed with a sunny mid 50 degree day. Overnight the temperature dropped below freezing and soon after practice finished it began to snow, despite this minor setback 197 entries were ready Sunday. Matt Price got around Ferguson in the rollers before Valley one. Ferguson fought back and retook second and began putting some ground between him and Price. By the time the white flag came out Price and Dain Denman were closing in on Ferguson (who had lost his goggles and was having vision problems in the snow). Denman made his move in the section by the road and swept into second. Price slipped by in the rollers to grab third. This order held to the finish. In moto two Ferguson was out front at the Daytona corner with Michael Cox in second and Coplien third. By the end of lap one Coplien was ahead of Cox, chasing Ferguson. By the end of lap two Coplien was in the lead. When the checkers flew Coplien

Colton Bentz (running his first B race) was close behind with Kyle Kilday third. Kilday soon had Brandon Clifford and Kail McCormack breathing down his neck and by the middle of the lap had lost positions to them. Clifford went to work on Bentz and by the end of the lap had slipped into second. Clifford kept right on pushing and soon was in the lead and starting to put some distance on Strauss. McCormack got by Bentz before the checkers to claim a third. When the moto two gate dropped Strauss and Clifford were bar to bar fighting for the lead. After some good clean racing Clifford was able to get by and went on for the win. Bentz held off pressure from McCormack to claim third both for the moto and the overall. Josh Boaz and Dillon Nelson - 65cc 7-11 class

Kellogg, Minnesota - April 28 By Dusty Rose

A

lleluia... Mother Nature finally found the switch and flipped it to “Spring”. On Sunday April 28th, the Motokazie MX Series got underway at the Midway MX track near Kellogg, MN, and it was great to be back and racing.

Kole Lemcke and Austin Nelson - Supermini class

CYCLE USA, May 2013

In the 14-24C class, Aaron Sperling ripped free for the holeshot followed by Travis Anway, Ryan Mosch and Aaron Laue. Brady Perlich made a bold move and got by Laue in turn eight. A tight battle for the third made quite the race. Sperling opened up a huge lead and took the checkered flag first, followed by Anway. Perlich proved to be up to the challenge and took the third place finish. Moto two saw Aaron Sperling out for the holeshot a second time. Mosch and Anway experienced a little bar banging, Mosch held strong but Anway just wouldn’t give up and passed Mosch soon after. Sperling crept out to a thirteen second lead as Anway opened up some breathing room in second. Mosch and Perlich battled through three laps before Mosch gained an advantage to finish third. In the 65cc 7-11 class, five riders busted out of the gates. Josh Boaz from Eagan, MN snatched the holeshot with Dillon Nelson hot on his tail. Cameron Skaalerud, Timmy Kristiansen and Carter Anderson rounded out the field. Boaz was in the zone, flying around the track to open a huge lead. Nelson kept it pinned for second ahead of Skaalerud, from Waconia, MN. Second moto #23, Boaz, flew through the whoops and checked out for his second

moto win. Nelson had a great run in the second spot as Kristiansen hung on for third. Anderson pushed a little bit too hard and took a tumble while trying to move up. The Women jumped out of the starting gates as Jaqueline Riess claimed the holeshot. Katie Vanderwerf from Lakeville, MN and Sacia Ogden from Lake City, MN maneuvered through the whoops and leaped over Kong, and then went on to finish in the same order. The gates dropped for moto two and Riess zipped out for the holeshot once again. Vanderwerf held strong to second and Ogden settled in to the third. The Women stormed through the track, bounced over the dirty dozen, flew through the jumps and conquered the step up lap after lap to finish in the same order again. The riders in the Supermini class broke out of the gates and Kole Lemcke grabbed the early lead ahead of Austin Nelson, Cody Wroe and Zachery Bailey. Wroe made a pass on Nelson and took the lead briefly before his bike let him down and Nelson swooped in and won the moto. In moto two, three young men battled through the moto. Lemcke squeaked through for the holeshot as Nelson seemed to be attached to his rear fender in second, just ahead of Bailey. Nelson made a fierce move and passed Lemcke. On the final lap, Lemcke made an attempt at a pass on Nelson but got hung up in a rut, and Nelson pulled away and grabbed first place. Lemcke held on for second and Bailey finished third. Mother Nature did us proud, and gave us a great day for racing. Thank you Motokazie crew for working hard and perfecting both the main and the mini tracks.

Carter Anderson finished fourth in 65cc 7-11

Huge Weekend at Sunset Walnut, Illinois - April 27/28 By Josh Rud www.shiftonephotography.com

T

his past weekend riders from all over the county ascended on Walnut, Illinois for their chance to qualify for Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National this summer. The races went on Saturday and Sunday with stock running Saturday and mod running on Sunday. Both days however included a proam. The weather could not have cooperated any better this weekend, with a bit of rain Saturday night being the only issue worth a mention. With so many riders a lot of the classes had to run two motos with a LCQ to make up the finally moto. The top eighteen of each moto and the top six of the LCQ made it to the final. The track was kept up all day without a single break in the action, everything running extremely smooth as always. Sunday we had a guest announcer Chase Sexton, he was up there doing a great job keeping track of the racing! Friday’s advance practice had over 400 riders come to get ready, and entries on Saturday and Sunday totalled nearly 1100,

Nicholas Inman styling to fourth overall in 450B.

for one huge weekend of riding/racing. Sunday was mod day and a few less motos than Saturday; to start off the day was College B/C with thirty riders signed up. In the first moto Wisconsin’s Tylor Skodras took the win follower by Jacob Grzebinski and Samuel Peterson. Moto two got underway in the middle of the afternoon with Grzebinski taking the holeshot, Sam Kemp and Skodras were right behind him. Coming up the first hill in a large pack the 263 of Mark Marincic was able to get a jump on everyone and move into third. Grzebinski and Skodras were going at it back and forth starting to pull away, but Skodras was unable to get around him. This left Grebeinski with the win and the overall, Skodras taking second overall and Peterson finishing fourth, took third overall. Open Pro Sport was a great race today in the first round of motos Gregory Gehrer and Clarion Chapiewski took wins with Keaton Ward and Drayke Sizemore taking second in their respective motos then Jeremy Kress and Cody Vanbuskirk each finishing third. The day started out with sixty-one riders and the final gate dropped with forty-two riders flood-

ing the first turn. From watching the races out at Sunset Ridge the outside gate is always a fast line, and usually gets a good chance at the holeshot. Today was no exception with Jeremy Kress out of Iowa flying from the outside for the holeshot with Justin Kelly and Gehrer (Kansas) almost sticking three wide through the next turn. Gehrer managed to get a tire out front and take over the lead moving into the uphill section. Coming up to the next turn Chapiewski (MN) took the inside on Kelly taking over third. Coming over the first big jump Kress was right next to Gehrer but had to give up the inside to him into the hairpin putting Gehrer back up front. Meanwhile right behind them Bradly Deprenger (IA) got the inside line through the hairpin taking over third place from Chapiewski. Coming around for the third lap the battle was on for third place as Ty Tyrrell finally got around Deprenger, only to get passed by Vanbuskirk leaving Gehrer and Kress up front. On the last lap Kress tapped into the reserves making a final push and actually got around Geher on the second to last turn and held it over the line to take the win. Geher took the overall fol-

lowed by Kress and Vanbuskirk to complete one of the many hard fought battles of the day. The 65cc 7-11 class was packed today as well with thirty-nine riders lining up at the gates. In the first moto Brayden Bruce out of Wyoming took the win with Gage Fisher (IA) and Bryce Hansen (WI) right behind him. Off the gate drop in the second moto Fisher came flying around from the outside takin the holeshot followed closely by Izaih Clark (IA) and Hansen. Coming up the hill Fisher went down and Hansen got around the pack, taking over the lead leaving Bruce and Clark right behind him. Coming through the hairpin Clark went down and Colin Marler took over third in the still very tight pack. After a trip through the back of the track they emerged with Hansen still in the lead with Bruce and Bronson Mcclure (CO) moving up behind him. Coming through the whoops Bruce and Mcclure where side by side battling to the corner, Mcclure got the inside line and made it stick moving up into second. Coming around for the third lap Mcclure had dropped back to fifth place with Hansen still out front, Bruce in second and Colby Gatlin (TN) moving into third. They held on to these positions the rest of the race giving Bruce the overall followed by Hansen and Fisher who took fourth. Supermini was up with Kaleb Taylor (Co) taking the win in moto one followed by Mark Peterman (PA) and Marco Cannella coming over from Canada. In the second moto the gate dropped on twenty-six riders blasting into the first turn. Taylor took the holeshot followed by Carter Gordon (Mattoon, IL) and Matthew Gross (MI). Coming down the hill Anthony Wallace (IL) made his way around three riders to take over second place, moving Gordan back to third. Coming around on the third lap Gordan found his way around Wallace moving back into second meanwhile Taylor was starting to break away from the pack riding really smooth. Cannella had been making up ground on Wallace the entire last lap and it came right down the finish line where they crossed side by side. It was so

close; it got scored with Wallace taking the edge and third in the process. Taylor took the overall followed by Gordan and Cannella. 450C was another packed class today with forty riders. In the first moto Michigan’s Keenan Mokma took the win with Chance Trigalet and Austin Jorgensen (WY) right behind him. The gate dropped for moto two with Mokma taking the holeshot followed by Coleman Smith (TX) and Michael Sweney (CO). Coming down the hill Sweney got around Smith to take over second then the battle for third commenced. Coming into the first jump Zachary Harris (NE) got around Smith to take third, only to get passed by Chandler Hiatt (MO) through the hairpin. Coming around on the third lap Mokma was starting to gain a good lead with Sweney still putting the pressure on. Coming over the line for the white flag Jorgensen had taken over third place and was able to stay there for the final lap. This left the overall with Mokma taking the win, Jorgensen in second with two thirds, and Coleman Smith in third taking sixth and fourth. One of the best battles of the day, if you could really pick one out of all the action might just go to Schoolboy. The day started off early with Minnesota’s Henry Miller taking the win followed by Rookie White all the way from California and District 16’s Andy Kost. The gate dropped on the second moto with twenty-nine riders racing to the first turn looking for victory. Travis Prier (IA) came around from the outside to take the holeshot with Kost in second, and the rest of the pack four wide behind them. Coming up the hill Miller took a huge leap passing Kost and Prier before Austin Dodd (MI) took over third going hard outside around Prier. Making their way to the finish line White had battled through the traffic to third place, and Kost had made his way around Miller to take over the lead. Not any sooner than the lead changed, Miller blazed through the whoops taking it right back. Not but four turns later Kost was back up front pinning it down the hill to go around Miller on the outside.

With the white flag flying White had made his way up to the front only to have Miller show his speed in the whoops and take over second from Kost. White was able to hold out for the rest of the last lap with Kost going toe to toe with Miller, finally getting around him at the very end to take second. This left White in first for the overall, Miller in second and Kost third. I spoke with Kost after the race about the epic battle and he told me, “The race was definitely one of the closest races I've had in a while. Henry and I were literally rubbing plastic every corner. I just wanted to prove that I wasn't going to let them pass me so I kept pushing. I thought it was a great race to see where I'm at with the competition. I'm hoping to qualify for Loretta's soon and then do some nationals and other local races after; it should be a good year.” It was such a great weekend out at Sunset Ridge MX, the track was in gorgeous shape as always along with some new sections making the track even more fun to watch. The crew worked seamlessly to keep everything moving and getting all the races in, Saturday being an especially tall order with twenty-nine motos to start the day, dwindling down for the second round. Battle at the Border Begins Pecatonica, Illinois - April 6 By Josh Rud www.ShiftOnePhotography.com

T

he weather this year has been completely opposite from last year. Races have been cancelled left and right, and the first round of Stateline MX was no exception. It was supposed to be the week before, but the track was far too wet. This week was still wet, but the track was in great shape come the start of the race. However after the heats got underway it proceeded rain the rest of the night which made for some slippery turns and faces. A great battle of the night came during Open C where coming off the line Jono Mandelke took the holeshot with Justin Peterson and Christian Delossantos right behind. Everyone The track was in great shape before the rain arrived. was battling, not only the other riders, but the rain and slippery conditions. his Kawasaki out front with the holeshot, Ty Peterson was trying every angle to get around Tyrrell and Mays were right behind him. Mandelke and kept getting shut out. MeanBack in the pack Zont and Hofmaster were while behind them the race for third was heatputting up a fight as Hofmaster got around ing up as Trevor Nelson got around him on a charge to the front. Coming through Delossantos only to get passed back the next the sweeper Hofmaster laid into it and got turn. Up front on the final turn Peterson got around Tyrrell and Mays moving up to secthe inside line on Mandelke and was able to ond. Malatia was putting the 450 to work to hold on for the win after a hard fought race. keep pulling away and stick with it for the Open A had a great battle going on when win. Hofmaster came out with a second and it started to rain pretty hard. Maxx Malatia, Tyrrell held on for third. the Arenacross lites east coast champion, was In 250B we got a chance to see Nick out at the track tonight along with Scott Zont, Wallace riding his Mxstuff4u Honda move up Vaughn Mays, and Adam Berg, fresh out of from supermini to the big bikes, and he was the Arenacross tour. Tommy Hofmaster also looking extremely comfortable out there. took a break from running trackside support Being fourteen and already six feet tall has in his new trailer since the rain shut him down certainly helped this move. Off the line for the evening. Needless to say the class was Trevor Hayes (163) grabbed the holeshot with stacked. Right off the gate drop Malatia took Wallace and Lucas Hayes drafting him right

away. Battling through the rain, Wallace was trying everything to get around Trevor Hayes. Back in fourth place, Jordan Mackiewicz was able to get the inside line on Lucas Hayes to move up to third. Wallace calmed down and settled in looking for the right time to make his move and on the last lap he went for it. Coming up to the turn before the whoops he took a hard line to the inside but wasn’t able to stick it and slid up over the berm, but got right back moving to keep second place for the night. Trevor Hayes took the win and Mackiewicz held on for third. Quad A only had three riders, but they were fighting for the best lines, and stayed close the entire race. Off the gate Ethan Pickard took the holeshot followed by Jacob Howald and Austin Stauffacher. Coming down the straight Howald got a little out of shape and Stauffacher got around him. Meanwhile, with the rain coming down hard Pickard took the win as Stauffacher held off Howald and take the second spot. 250A was up next with Scott Zont flying out front to take the holeshot followed closely by Ty Tyrrell and Maxx Malatia. Tommy Hofmaster was right up with the bunch getting the outside line on Malatia and making the pass for third through the rhythm section. Up front Zont was running a defensive line, holding on to the lead as Tyrrell was looking for the opportunity to pass. Hofmaster became a victim of the wet conditions and ended up going down allowing Malatia to move back into third. Zont crossed the line for the win with Tyrrell and Malatia close behind him for a great race! Some great passing went on during 1424B/C. Nick Wallace took the holeshot by a

tire length followed closely by Jono Mandelke and Ricki Williams. Coming through the table tops three wide, Williams got to the inside of Mandelke through the hairpin to take over second place. Jordan Mackiewicz got stuck behind everyone on the start and was mounting an assault from fifth. He was able to pick off Jacob Chadima and move on Mandelke, passing him through the sweeper. On the last lap he got a line on Williams and took over second as Wallace took the win. It was a great night of racing out at Stateline MX, even with the weather. The rain never got to the point of a mud pit, but certainly added some challenges to racing.
