Big weeks for ATV riders at Sunset Ridge MX. As part of a new regular schedule of events dedicated to Quad riders, May brings special times at the Walnut, IL facility. It all leads up to the ATV National Saturday May 31st, but kicks off the week prior. An ATV National warm-up weekend, starts with Chad Weinen as he conducts a riding school on Friday May 23rd. Saturday the 24th is an ATV only practice day, followed by a full day of racing on Sunday the 25th. District 17 points will be available in the select ATV classes, plus additional classes will be added so there is plenty of track time available to everyone. The Mountain Dew ATV Showdown

fter a week of storms and rain it looked like there might be a chance the race wouldn’t be able to be held. “We added mulch and sand to the track and it will be great” is what was posted on the website for Crossroads, and when the riders showed up for that’s just what they found. The track was in amazing shape, and

there were many changes. “We are making changes and making it better for the riders.” Most everyone loved the new track layout and from the looks of it they will be able to use different sections whenever they want, making racing at Crossroads both fun and a challenge. What was the result of the improved track? One was great dirt with berms and ruts. Rough and real motocross! The next was 236 entries, and I’m sure when the

word gets out that number is going to grow even more. Great job to the Jacksons, this was also the first time many of the riders had a chance to race this season because of the weather. It is always great coming back for a new season,

you get to see friends you haven’t seen all winter. You get to see what people did to their bikes, or check out their new ones and new gear etc. It’s just great to be back! The 250C class was the biggest of the day. Not really is a surprise because that class always has a good rider count and great racing, but still great to see newer riders still coming out. With only two less riders than 250C, the +30B/C class was huge!! Is everyone just getting older and still racing? Are people coming back to racing after time away from the track? Are there new riders finding motocross late in life and now able to attend races and have fun? Let’s hope all is true! Whatever the reason it’s a great class to ride and fun. In the first moto Honda rider Matt Wilson got to the first turn first with Honda rider Terry Boxx from

Tennessee and Honda rider Kyle Miller on his heels. Wilson not having the best moto finished 11th. Miller on the other hand was on the gas and took the moto win. The impressive ride of the moto was Kawasaki rider Phillip Kaduk, who worked his way to second. Third for the moto was another green bike rider, Bret Milan. In the second moto Wilson was out to prove the first moto start wasn’t a fluke. Wilson charged the whole moto and wasn’t about to give up the moto win. Pared with 11th the first moto Wilson finished fifth overall. Second for the moto, Miller had the score

he wanted giving him the overall. Third for the moto was second overall finisher Boxx. Third overall went to Milan who again had a great ride taking fourth. The Super Mini class was follow the yellow bike day. J M Suspension/ Club 51 Suzuki rider Dawson Ryker was on the pipe! It was a very impressive ride. Second both motos and overall was Brody Beck. The fight for third overall was a good one between Kawasaki rider Troy Noland and Honda rider Conner Snowden. In the first moto Snowden took third leaving Noland fourth. In the second moto Noland took the third spot with Snowden fourth creating a tie. The second moto is the tie breaker handing third overall to Noland. Great ride guys! Another class that is growing is the Vintage class. Off of sixth overall in the 30B class, Yamaha rider Brad Adams was out to take the Vintage win in the first moto, only problem was Honda rider Nathan Reed had another idea taking the win. Third in the moto went to Yamaha rider Dan Hall. In the second moto Adams had his Yamaha out front to take the moto and overall. Second went to Reed. Third for the

moto and overall went to Kawasaki rider Michael Kistler on his big KX500. Hall finished fourth in the moto and overall. One rider who could have ran the Vintage class was Chanc Persons. He had his ‘95 Honda CR250 out racing the +30A and +40A. His bike looked like new, it just shows you how good your bikes can look when you take care of them. In the +30A class Persons finished fifth overall with a 4-5. The overall for the class went to Kirk Monk, winning both motos. In +40 Person sfinished fourth both motos and overall. It just shows there is a place for any bike you have or want. Just pack it up and come sign up, race and have some fun! D16 MX Kicks off at Aztalan! Lake Mills, WI - April 13 By Dave Hollub

he District 16 motocross season opener once again fell on the Aztalan Cycle Club race day, and was almost a washout. After a week of perfect weather the skies opened up Saturday evening with a mix of hail and then over two inches of rain leaving the track swamped. Sunday morning the crew got out early making the track rideable for practice, and then went back to work scraping even more mud off the track to make it raceable. The day started in a somber mood as Aztalan paid tribute as longtime member and district-wide MX supporter Tom Dretzka was remembered. Everyone held back tears when they saw Tomâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s racebike lined up all alone at the starting line for one final gate drop. Tomâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s son Joseph and daughter Jillian then led a memorial parade lap in honor of our lost, but never forgotten friend. After the decision to wait for the PW motos, it was 250B getting the first gate drop of the season. Jake Seipel

grabbed the holeshot just ahead of Jeremy Smith. Soon Seipel had pressure from Dustin Hafenstein and Kristopher Korn, both of whom had gotten around Smith. Hafenstein was in the lead by the time he hit the plateau on lap two. Seipel was pushing Hafenstein on lap three as they hit the jump in front of the start, and went down. Smith moved up into second. Aaron Sirko charged from fifth to finish the moto in third, just

ahead of Korn. Hafenstein started moto two out front just as the rain began and held on for the win with Smith cruising in second and Korn slipping past Josh Dearborn midway through the moto to finish third. Steven Sorge proved to be a true mudder as he grabbed the holeshot and ran out front both motos in Senior +50. Glenn Korn held on in second all moto with Robert Edler looking for a way to catch him

from his third place spot. Mike Zimmerman ran in fourth with Tim Herrmann finishing the moto in fifth. Sorge was out front and gapping the class in moto two with Zimmerman doing everything he could to hold Korn off. Korn finally found enough room to slip into second early in lap three and finished just ahead of Zimmerman in the rain shortened moto. Jake Garwood led the 250C class around the holeshot and immediately started opening up a gap that held to the finish. James Burd was running second early in the moto, but midway through lap two dropped out leaving Keegan Cummins with the position. Lucas Zimmerman was seventh on his first time over the plateau, charging hard. By the next time over he was in third and starting to hunt down Cummins. Cummins held on until midway through the white flag lap as Zimmerman found a faster line and slipped past just before the plateau and crossed the finish with Cummins on his rear fender. Garwood less than a bike back. While Cummins had the clear track out front Garwood had his hands full holding off the hard charging Zimmerman. By the start of the final lap Zimmerman had slipped past Garwood and was once again on the hunt for Cummins, this time looking for the moto win. Zimmerman caught Cummins on the west end and made the pass into the lead just before the plateau and then stayed out front to the finish. Zimmerman took the overall with a 2/1 day while Garwood (1/3) was second and Cummins (3/2) rounded out the top three. Kevin Yde was out front of Vet B/C at the holeshot, but before he hit the plateau he was running third behind his brother Brad Yde, and Tom Wolf. Brad Yde looked like he was settling into the lead until Wolf and Vet A rider Mark Marescalco slipped past in the barn section on lap two. Wolf and Marescalco had a running battle going between

them for the lead while Brad Yde started feeling Justin Fluger behind him. Fluger never got close enough to put a tire in but kept Brad running a fast pace. Glenn Korn finished the moto in fourth. After moto one, Wolf, “That moto was a good battle. We swapped positions quite a few times. I got a fourth place start but was able to get around and out front but then Mark just wouldn’t leave me alone. It was hard to see, I was out of tearoffs, and I know he was out so I was trying to keep him back by roosting him. I just had to keep my goggles on so when he passed me again I could see through his roost. He had the west end pretty good and was doing some of the jumps I couldn’t in the mud. I just didn’t want to get cross rutted or sideways off of a jump. The track wasn’t too bad considering all the rain. I didn’t go out for practice so the memorial lap for Tommy was also my siting lap. It was really emotional and special to

Seth Doeberlein got the holeshot for Supermini and then battled with Colton Parson for the lead. After a couple lead swaps the first two laps Parson got the edge and stayed out front to the checkers. Dalton Pergrande was running third, but after taking a couple soil samples ended up finishing fourth just behind Tyler Gamble. Doeberlein got the moto two holeshot but Parson was out front before they hit the plateau. Pergrande had a much smoother moto as he cruised in third edging out Gamble for the final step on the podium. Justin Wolf was out front both Sportsman B/C motos to take the

overall. Derek Muehlbauer edged out Kyle Whysol for second in moto two and then went on to place second again in moto two to grab second overall just head of Whysolâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 3/3 day. Mud was a great equalizer as Michael Kingstad turned a 9/4 day into fourth overall and Kory Sorge plowed through the slop to finish the day fifth overall (13/5). When Womenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s took their gate drop, Sierra Heindl rocketed down the straight to turn the corner three bike lengths ahead of everyone. Unfortunately Heindl then got caught up in deep mud right around the corner and ended up at the back of the field by the time she was up and running again. Kendra Tutt inherited the lead but Monica Jazwiecki passed her in the west end. Tutt kept charging and before they hit the plateau on lap two she was ahead of Jazwiecki. Tutt went on to finish out front with Sierra Dortch charging back from a sixth place start to fin-

ish second just ahead of Jazwiecki. For moto two the Women decided to do a one lap dash because of the deep mud and Heindl grabbed the holeshot, this time staying up all the way to the checkers. Tutt rounded the corner right between Heindl and Dortch but before they hit the finish Dortch slipped by to finish second. Dortch took the overall with a 2/2 while Tutt (1/3) was second and Heindl (6/1) was third ahead of Dana Hanna (5/4). After waiting all morning for the track to dry, 50Sr finally got their chance and when the gate dropped Owen Haseleu blasted out front and hung on to the lead all the way to the finish. Ayden Price settled into second and after a brief battle the first lap with Nathaniel Froemming, he started running away from the pack. Froemming soon had his hands full as Noah Bindas closed in and began sticking a wheel in. Bindas made the

pass just before the finish to claim third. Benjamin Blazek took the moto two holeshot but before lap one was in the books Price was out front. Blazek now had to defend against both Froemming and Bindas to hold on to second. When the checkers flew Blazek was still in second with the hard charging pair still behind him. Price turned his 2/1 day into the overall win while 4/3 earned Froemming second and Bindas (3/4) filled the final podium spot. Despite the mud and later rain, all 240 entries that came out put on a great show of real racing, reminiscent of the

good old days of Wisconsin motocross. Mud caked bikes and soaking wet gear can be washed, but the memories are going to stay strong. erfect weather welcomed riders to the JM Racing Suspension Pro-Am. Lincoln Trail Motorsports did a great job on the Bomber track, it was fast, rough and well kept all day. The LTM crew watered and worked the track throughout the day making for great racing. JM Racing wasn’t just the sponsor of the event, but Matt Borgic was on hand

Pro-Am races are great to attend and watch, if you have not been to one you need to go at least watch. These are the next racers that will be racing the AMA Pro Nationals. Thirty-six riders lined up for the first Open A moto. When the riders thundered off the line it was Ohio Honda rider Jacob Berger with the lead going up the Gator back with Illinois’ Michael Norris by his side on his KTM. Coming quick to the front was a pair of Yamahas. Illinois Yamaha rider Ty Tyrrell made his

way to the lead with Wisconsin’s Cody Williams working into second. Williams caught Tyrrell and paced him until he found the spot he was looking for, making the pass for the lead. Williams took the moto win with Tyrrell second and Norris third. After the moto I caught up to Williams while he was washing his gear. I asked his dad why he washes his boots after every ride and he said “When he was younger he would have new gear but his boots always looked bad so I told him he needed to clean them. Now he cleans them after each ride.” Cody, “I didn’t get the best start because I got like 31st gate pick, but

I like the track and it was great to take the moto win. This is my first Pro-Am and didn’t know how my speed would match the others.” In the second moto Williams had a much better gate pick after his moto win, but when the gate dropped it didn’t seem to matter because he was again working his way up. Out front was Illinois Travco Honda/ JM Suspension rider Derek Leist. A long time LTM rider, Leist now from Nashville, Tennessee took off with the pack hot on his tail. Berger, Tyrrell, Michigan rider Jarred Williams and Cody Williams worked their way past Leist. Out front it looked like the moto would be like the last with Cody Williams on the gas and looking like he was on a clear pace to take the moto win when his Yamaha 450 let go and rolled to a stop. Tyrrell back out front soon had Jarred Williams on his heals again. Williams who made the pass and took the moto win giving him second overall. Tyrrell again finished second, but first overall. Berger took third and third overall. Leist finished fourth in the moto after a great ride. In the 250 Pro-Am thirtyeight riders hit the gate in search of those hard to get Pro-Am points. In the first moto it was local Honda rider Blake Copeland who got to the first turn ahead, but pushed

wide pushing Tyrrell and his Yamaha two-stroke out also. Brady Neys took the lead and put in a good ride to eventually finish tenth. Tyrrell had the two-stroke screaming and made his way to the front. Cody Williams was on the hunt again, making passes from seventh to catch Tyrrell and make the pass to take the moto win. Tyrrell finished second with Michigan’s KTM rider Lucas Lowe third. The second 250 moto had the best finish of the day! Off the start both Tyrrell and Williams worked to the front with Tyrrell in the lead. When Williams caught him it was clear Tyrrell wasn’t going to give up easy. Going across the finish line, headed to the camel back jump Tyrrell scrubbed the giant single jump and charged to the first turn. Williams launched the jump and landed right beside him! With Tyrrell on the inside he had position and kept the lead out of the next corner. Both riders charged making a perfect lap and again coming to the flag they were tight. Charging down the hill to the Camel back Tyrrell let off to scrub and cleared the jump. Williams seemed to never let off and it looked like he almost jumped over his head and landed at least four bike lengths ahead of Tyrrell! Amazing ride! Williams took the moto win for the sweep

and overall. Tyrrell also with an amazing ride took second for the moto and overall. The rider with the best seat in the house was Lowe who took third for the moto and third overall. With the focus on the ProAm classes, one group even the Pro riders need to keep an eye on is 250B. Why should they be watching? Jayce Pennington is the reason, he had his Yamaha flying to take both moto wins and the overall. The thing is on Saturday practice and race day his lap times were right there with the ProAm riders. Second both motos and overall went to Jacob Wever with third going to Preston Pennington. It was a great race, on a really good track. With action like this already, the rest of our season should be super exciting. lthough the calendar said that spring had arrived in Minnesota weeks ago, it certainly didn’t appear to be the case while strolling through the pits on the ﬁrst weekend of the 2014 motocross racing season. With the temps hovering around 39 degrees, the weather appropriate garment of choice seemed to be the common sleeping bag, wrapped tightly around the wearer’s body in such a manner as to not let the blustery north wind further render the individual closer to becoming a human spectator-sicle. Other popular fashion items included parka’s, winter boots and chopper mittens. The racers would not be deterred though. The season’s ﬁrst race was delayed a week on account of too much snow on the track on the date of the scheduled opener, and the racers

were chomping at the bit to hit the dirt. While conditions were reported to be very sloppy at the race in southern (Kellogg) MN, the track at Cambridge, with it’s bottomless base of sand, was in perfect condition

for the racers. Because of three races being held on the same day in District 23, turnout was lighter than expected, but enthusiasm ran high as the gate dropped for the ﬁrst race of the day. The ﬁrst class to turn a

wheel in anger was the 50 Open 4-8 year olds. Coming off of a very successful indoor season at the SandBox, #70 KTM speedster Tanner Schlegel piloted his Liquid Nitro Energy Drinks KTM SX50 to a first place finish in the sandy, throttle to the stops conditions. Brady Karolevitz and Blayz Weizel filled out the podium for a KTM sweep. But alas, the young Schlegel was not done yet. He also took top honors in the 50cc 78 Chain Pre-mix class and ran to a 5th place in 65-cc 7-9. Seems like Tanner is either sleeping or he is winning races. Not much time for anything else when you are on top of the world! A little later on in the day, another Schlegel (Ray-father to Tanner) lined his Kawasaki up in the Vet-A class next to Suzuki mounted Mark Arends. At the drop of the gate Mark Arends vaulted to the lead exiting turn one, which relegated Schlegel to runner-up position. Rick Schugel was riding his Honda CRF like it was a scalded cat in the +45A class, to claim victory over Richard Blaser on another Honda. Then Schugel would ﬁnish second to long time MX and Snowmobile racer Donny Bonnicksen from Waverly MN in the +50 class. Then he mounted up for a opportunity to kiss the trophy girl in the Senior-A race, followed by Marty Melby then Richard Blaser for third. In the battle for supremacy in the Senior C class, Suad Hodzic wheeled his #211

Yamaha to the line with fire in his eyes and wasn’t gonna be denied! Right from the drop of the gate he let it rip with the thunder emanating from his race pipe shaking the fillings from the teeth of the local deer population around the Norseman MC Clubgrounds. Although Sauk Centre’s Michael Engle would not go down without a fight, in the end, Hodzic had just a little edge which he carried to the line. District 23 has a pretty deep talent pool in the MX arena. Not the least of which is Harris, MN resident, #24 Larson Cycle Center Yamaha YZ250F mounted Shayanna Wilson. Shay rides like a champion, throw’s down some serious style points when she airs it out over the kickers, never worrying about how her Enzo Suspension will perform thanks to the expert tuning from guru Craig Decker. Ms Wilson didn’t run in the Women’s class on Sunday,

electing instead to just run with the boys. Racing to fifth place in 250B, going 4 and 6 in that class and then 3 and 4 in 14-24B for fourth, all the while giving fits to a number of the class regulars. I wonder if Shayanna could someday be a contender for the WMX National title. I have it on good authority that Shay just received her Women’s Pro license. It was an all Yamaha podium for the Schoolboy 1216 class with Bailey Kroone, Aaron Lindell and Trevor Bonnickson taking top honors in that order. 2013 250C class winner Devin Donaho picked up where he left off last year with a win in the 250B class and first in Open-B All of the racers were very happy to get the first race of the 2014 season under their belts. With the next weekend off racing to observe the Easter, all are anxious to get to

Sugar Maple beats Mom Nature Hill Point, Wisconsin - April 20 By Dave Hollub

isconsin weather was trying to pull a fast one on the crew at Sugar Maple MX when it dumped enough snow to cover the ground, just a couple days before their season opener. Not deterred, the Erdmann family went to work and got the grounds ready for a long weekend of practice and racing. Friday and Saturday riders began showing up and were welcomed by perfect riding weather. Bikes that had just been brought out of hibernation roared to life and hands started forming blisters as everyone was learning new lines on the track. By Sunday morning 150 entries were ready to race. 125Jr and Non-current got the first gate drop of the day, and Trever Deedon blasted out front with more than a five bike length lead over the tunnel triple. Deedon kept increasing his gap on the field while Joseph Scheiber (non current) and Nate Telfer battled for second just ahead of Hunter Schueller (NC). By their second time around the

Daytona corner, Telfer was ahead of Scheiber who now had his hands full holding off Schueller. By the time the moto closed out the running order was Deedon, Telfer, Schueller, followed by Tyler Dinkle (NC) and Seth Doeberlein. In moto two Schueller grabbed a big holeshot but went down over the tunnel triple, forcing him out for the moto. Deedon took over the lead and once again separated from the rest of the field on his way to the win. Doeberlein ran second ahead of Scheiber and Dinkle. On the final lap Telfer pushed his way past Dinkle to settle in at fourth for the moto finish. The 125Jr overall went to Deedon (1/1) with Doeberlein (3/2) second and Telfer (2/3) in third. Noncurrent went to Scheiber (3/1) in first, Dinkle (2/2) and Scheiber (4/3). Next out of the gate was Vet +30B/C with Andy Bowman leading the class out of the holeshot. Bowman had a pretty good lead by the end of lap one, but midway through lap two Daryl Willing was closing in fast. Willing was sticking a wheel in as the

white flag came out, and then made the pass coming out of Hollubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Hollow. Bowman pushed hard but couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t get back out front before the checkers. Tom Ferguson held on in third all moto just ahead of George Busse. Bowman again grabbed the holeshot in moto two and stayed out front to the finish with Willing chas-

ing him all the way. Ferguson chased Matt Price on lap one before finally slipping past into third. Busse finished in fifth, right behind Price. There were twenty-two riders lined up for 250C, and Keegan Cummins took the holeshot with Bret Holland on his rear fender. By the time they hit the rollers on lap one

Brady Bill had taken over second and started chasing Cummins. Holland now had pressure from Trever Deedon who was being pushed hard by Max Steinhorst. Holland bobbled on his second trip through the rollers and both Deedon and Steinhorst took advantage to move up in position. Cummins and Bill battled to the finish with Cummins still running out front at the finish and Deedon crossed with Steinhorst right on his rear wheel. Bill got out front right away in moto two with Steinhorst in second. On the first trip through the rollers Deedon got by Steinhorst. Cummins was moving through the pack after a bad start until he went down just before the table, which dropped him to the back of the class. Bill hung on for the moto win and overall with his 2/1 day while Deedon claimed second (3/2) and Steinhorst third (4/3). Daryl Willing led the Senior +40 riders around the holeshot corner and it looked like he was going to have an easy ride to the win as he pulled a gap early on lap one. Behind Willing, Jeff Ramsay was busy fighting off pressure from Tom Ferguson. Just before they hit the scoring area Ferguson slipped past Ramsay and then took off after Willing. low and then took the lead on lap two. Ferguson’s run out front ended just as the lap was scored when Willing out jumped him over the ski jump. Willing then cruised to the moto win with Ferguson close behind and Ramsay then Doug Ninneman following. Willing was again out front at the holeshot in the second moto, and this time nobody was able to catch him. Ramsay came around the corner in second with Ferguson on his rear wheel. Ferguson pushed Ramsay hard and finally on their last trip through the rollers slipped past to grab the checkers in second just ahead of Ramsay. Open C moto one belonged to Brady Bill from gate drop to checkers. Bret Holland had Keegan Cummins all over his rear tire going through the Daytona corner while Logan Telfer was close behind in fourth. Cummins jumped past Holland over the Ski Jump at the beginning of lap two, but couldn’t close the gap Bill already had established. Telfer moved up into third in on lap two and Max Steinhorst had charged through the pack to slip into fourth. Holland was able to get back in front of Steinhorst just before the moto ended. Holland edged out Bill on the moto two start and held on to the lead for the first lap, but Bill was able to get out front over the tunnel triple. Cummins was sticking a wheel in on Holland in every corner and finally on the white flag lap was able to make a pass that put him across the finish in second. Telfer also mounted a white flag charge that put him into position to slip past Holland in the roller section. The overall went to Bill with Cummins second and Telfer third. Bill, “The day was good. I tried getting off to good starts all day and then once I got out front just kept pushing hard to stay there. In 250C Keegan got the first holeshot and I was third but I got around the outside and was able to catch him but I just couldn’t get by. In moto two I was out front and just rode hard and stayed there. In 450C I got the holeshot both times and just held the pace and stayed out front. The track is really good, there’s good moisture in it and it really formed some good lines. I’d like to thank Sportland 2, Kirk Mueller Motorsports, and my Mom and Dad.” When Quad B got their chance on the track Leon Spinden was untouchable. Spinden grabbed both holeshots and then led every lap from there on as he took the moto wins and overall. Jay Toelle was in second at the beginning of moto one with Bradley Payne and Kyle Ertmer close be-

hind. Ertmer was able to get past Payne on lap three and then Toelle on the white flag lap. In moto two while Spinden was running away out front Toelle had his hands full holding back challenges from Payne. his winter was one for the record books, and not in a good way. The cold and snow were relentless, putting NITRO’s (Northern Illinois Trials Riders Organization) first trials of the year in jeopardy. And despite the calendar saying that it was spring, Mother Nature had other plans. The weeks leading up to the kickoff of the 2014 trials season at Byron’s Motosports Park were no different than the rest of the winter. Set up of this trial was one of the most challenging, even for NITRO veterans. The ground was snow and ice covered and air temperatures were below freezing. Trials masters for the event were long time NITRO riders Tony Meo and Charles Shanks. Both were thrilled at the early season turn-out of riders. Meo said the turnout was better than expected and the event ran smoothly despite the weather conditions. A hearty group of 32 riders

were anxious to knock the rust off their bikes, and their riding skills when they showed up for the start of the riding season. The group was a great mix of veteran riders as well as riders new to trials. For a few, it was their first experience. Due to the conditions out in the woods, the loop was kept to a compact eight sections. The sections were a nice mix of hills, logs, tight turns, and rocks. The snow was still evident on the ground, and as it melted things became slick and muddy. One of the more challenging sections was made up entirely of flat slabs of rock which were surrounded by snow. Even though many riders said this was their first time on their bikes since the fall, many flashed mid-season skills. First time youth rider, Chasen Orme seemed to be having a great time at his first trials, taking home a first place trophy in the Youth division. Nitro’s season runs until midOctober. This left Brian Petersen up front for the win with Ryan Popaeko and Danny Petersen filling out the podium. 250C was a crazy race tonight with so much passing it was hard to keep track at times. Thirteen riders slammed into the first corner with Jared Burba taking the holeshot. Jordan Roxworthy and Alex Oerkfitz were right behind him in the

tateline MX was ready and the gates dropped to a great night of racing on April 19th. A lot of new faces, and riders out in different classes, different bikes, it’s hard to keep to keep up on everything, but that’s what makes early races fun. The track was in great shape with everything running smooth and the motos full of great racing as always. The pit bikes have always shown up strong at Stateline, and tonight there was some great racing. It’s always fun watching the bikes rip the track. The gate dropped to an epic battle about to unfold with Danny Petersen getting out front followed by Brian Petersen and Ryan Popaeko. Heading into the tabletops Brian Petersen took over the lead, then moving into the rollers Popaeko grabbed second, dropping Danny Petersen into third. Hitting the sweeper Kevin Popaeko came in hot to take over third, only to have his bike die out right into the next jump. Talan Zollers won 50Sr.

rhythm section. Coming into the sand turn Trevor Nelson took over third as the battle went three wide over the next jump. The battle gave Burba a little ground as Nelson and Nate Rega both moved up a spot in the process. Coming into the tables they were three wide once again, this time Rega gained another position, moving Nelson back to third. Rega caught Burba and made an inside pass through the sweeper to take over the lead. Coming around the next lap Mike Nechvatal went inside through the sweeper, making this a popular place for passing, and moved into third. Keeping the momentum going the late race charge was working out as Nechvatal moved up to second. The clock ran out and Rega took the win with Nechvatal in second and Nelson third. 250B was up next with Andy Kost coming down from Wisconsin for his first time at the track. Talking with him he told me that he had been down to run some Loretta Qualifiers, and he was really enjoying the track at Stateline. Kost took off for the early lead with Ricky Williams and Durk Roper close behind. Coming down the rhythm section Danielle West took over third and was charging for second. Roper took advantage of some smooth riding through the tabletop section and took back third as Kost started to pull away from the pack. Coming back around into the tabletop section riders were going three wide battling for third. Williams moved back into third with Kost and Roper still up

front. Coming back from getting bunched up at the start, Brian Krohn on his Woodstock KTM was on fire taking over third through the sweeper, and taking Roper in the next turn to jump up to second. Crossing the line Kost took the win with Krohn and Roper holding out to se-

cure second and third for the night. 250A had a great race. Coming off the gates Maxx Malatia took the holeshot with Logan Skaggs and Tom Hofmaster right on his tail. Into the sand turn, Hofmaster washed out the front end allowing Cory Catalani to shoot

egacross got underway this weekend the twelfth of April with so much going on around the track and getting everything prepared for the first race of the season. Megacross was perfect all night with the track shaping up some great lines, keeping everything very interesting. The turn-out was great. The +40 classes in particular had a great group, and they were ready to kick off the season as much as any of the youth riders. Starting the night off was +40A blasting from the line with Alex Rossetto getting an early lead followed by Steve Perkins and John Conley. As they hit the second corner Burton Lavens shot around the outside in the whoops to take over second, dropping Perkins to third. As they headed over the tabletops Lavens was on a mission, taking over the lead. Coming around for the third

lap heat race winner Arek Kruk was on the move and had made it into third, pushing hard to get back up front. Heading down the straight, in a drag race with Rossetto, he took over a hard fought second place. At the finish line Lavens held on for the win with Kruk and Rossetto rounding out the top three. Tonight was the first test for the +40 class, which was split into two classes, racing at the same time. This way the B/C riders would have a chance to grab some glory as well. Twelve riders signed up in the B/C class, combined with the six in A, it made for good racing all around the track. This turnout is unheard of in Stadium racing which was normally thought of as a “young” man’s sport. The B/C part of the class was won by Todd Heerman, second went to Troy Quest, and rounding out the podium was Scott Holmes. Rumor has it the next little test will be the +50 class, trying out it’s appeal at the next event.

Long time D17 favorite, Tommy Hofmaster returned to win +25, +30A, and then finish second in Open A.

250C was huge tonight as seventeen riders suited up for battle, and battle they did. The gates dropped and Zach Rom-

bout shot out to grab the holeshot with Stephen Kupfershmid coming from the far outside to fall in behind him.

Sadie Quest had a good night finishing third in 50Sr.

Chris Kincaid slotted into third as the pack bunched up making things very interesting. Right around the second corner it was on as Kincaid went outside hard into the whoops to take over second. Rombout was out there in the fresh lines, running smooth already making a gap as they headed into the tabletop section. Nate Rega was cutting down positions as he pushed up from getting stuck around the first turn, taking over third. The battle for third was intense with everyone charging hard. Rega had an unfortunate stall going into the hairpin, moving Corbin Lenaway into third as he got on it hard to get up to the guy in the front. Rega got the bike moving right away to keep fourth and continued cruising, not letting it get him down. Flying down the straight on the last lap Lenaway held it on a little longer as was able to cut inside of Kincaid to take over second and hold out through the final section of the track.

The epic race concluded with Rombout taking the win uncontested followed by Lenaway and Kincaid. 85cc was a great race tonight with Patrick Murphy just moving up from 65â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s, and out there taking names as he took off with the lead right from the start. Tommy Fortune Jr and Shawn Thompson were close, and after each other the entire race. Thompson jumped up to second just to have Fortune come right back at the end of the straight to take it back. Hitting the bowl turn Thompson answered back taking the inside line to reclaim second and start a charge to the front. By this time Murphy had been running clean laps and was starting to make a good gap while the battle for third heated up as Thor Rick was closing in. However Fortune wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t finished and on the final lap went outside through the tabletops and took back second place for the third time. The checkers were waving as

Murphy took the win leaving second place to Fortune and Thompson in third, after the exciting race. Open A was out next, and ready to put on a show as they lined up for their main event. Flying off the line Tom Hofmaster put his 2-stroke Yamaha out front followed closely by Maxx Malatia and Ty Tyrrell. Coming around the second corner Justin Kelly was on the gas, sending it into the whoops section to pass Tyrrell and charge forward as Malatia and Hofmaster were going back and forth up front. Hofmaster held on for several laps until Malatia took the inside through the bowl turn to take over the lead. Tyrrell and Kelly were going at it for third as Malatia started to make a gap, riding out front. Coming across the line Malatia took the win followed by Hofmaster and Kelly. Open B was the last race up

for the night, that was moving along without a hitch. The gates dropped to Damon Thomas tearing off the line followed by Jesse Keith and Danielle West. Everyone bunched together coming around the next turn with Ricki Williams letting West know he was taking third around the corner, then West came back in the whoops to reclaim the spot. Everyone stayed close for the first few laps when West was finally able to get by Keith, coming in hot down the straight. The rest of the moto played out as everyone was going at it hard, but in the end Thomas was able to hold on for the win with West and Keith taking second and third for the night. I asked Thomas about his heat race earlier where he placed fourth and he said his game plan was to take it easy and get a top five gate pick and lay on the heat for the mains, which

seemed to work out great tonight. It was a great season opener for Megacross tonight, and the track crew kept everything running like clockwork. All the motos were going back to back getting them all done smooth and keeping up the maintenance on the track when it needed a little work. Things are going big this year for Megacross with some changes in works to keep things fresh, but not going far off of what has worked well for so many years out at the fairgrounds. Racing Megacross this season is a little different then in years past, the normal two week rotation was changed up and dates are more scattered through out the summer. inter has been running strong this year and hindered a lot of the early spring racing. Motorsports Park got a break from the rain and cold and things got underway strong this first weekend of April. Rain during the week helped made conditions great all day. The crew at Motorsports Park

is always on top things around the track and it always shows. Motos move along without a hitch and the riders were out in force today. You can defiantly count on things going big this year in Byron. There was some great races out there today, and 85Sr was up and running with seventeen riders lining up at the gate. Coming off the line for the first moto Dawson Biermann got out front with Colton Par-

son and Zack Tatar close behind. Tatar got side-by-side with Biermann coming around the second corner as they went into the tabletop, with Biermann fighting back around the next turn. Heading into the second lap Parson went down leaving Eddie Norred to take over third. The charge was on as Norred went by Biermann through the sweeper and Anthony Wallace followed right behind him, taking over third. Tatar was left up front making a decent gap while the field was going after it behind him. Tatar took the win with Norred and Wallace rounding out the top three. The overall for the

day went to Tatar winning both motos, Wallace taking second with a third and second place finish as Tyler Collins finished third with a 4-3. 250A was another great race today, despite everyone still getting in the swing of things. The gates dropped on the first moto to Brady Neys jumping out front with Mark Marincic and Chris Antolak charging in behind him. Coming through the sweeper Logan Skaggs was hard on the gas, moving into third. Marincic and Skaggs have both been moved up to A class recently, and were showing why today. Coming down the hill for the second

lap Cody Vanbuskirk put down some passes after a bad start and moved all the way to the lead. This left Neys and Marincic in the hunt as the pack was staying close. After the dust settled Marincic took the overall for the day with a third and second. Vanbuskirk didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t make it out the second moto, putting Ty Tyrell into second overall and Neys in for third. Coming out for Schoolboy in moto one, Steven Freund took off to an early lead, chased by Parker Smith and Chad Saultz. Coming up the hill Smith was on the gas hard, getting around Freund to take over the lead. Meanwhile Saultz was battling back and forth and then made it around Freund on the outside and charged on to fight for the lead. Dylan Boyd had been making up ground the entire race and got an inside line on Freund to take the third spot before the finish line in the final lap. The pack finished off the race with Smith taking the win followed by Saultz and Boyd. In the second moto Smith and Saultz mirrored their results going one two for the overall. Jakob Haney didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t start moto one, but came back for a third in moto two. This however handed over third overall to Boyd with a fourth place in the second moto. 250B was looking great out there today with twenty-five riders swarming the starting gates. Andy Kost was down from Wisconsin, working towards Lorettaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s this year, and he is really going to put up a good fight down there this year. The gates dropped and everyone flew into the first turn with Kost out front, Danielle West and Jacob Wever were right behind as the rest of pack battled for positions. Things were going back and forth with so many fast riders out there. Coming into the sand section up top Wever moved into second with Brian Krohn right on his back tire. Damon Tatar was soon jockeying for position with Krohn. This left the door open for West to take back third place as Kost was checking out. Wever held on for second, but had some bad luck in the second moto keeping him out of contention for the overall. Krohn ended up in fifth, but took second overall with a second place in the next moto and third overall went Tatar with a fourth and third for the day. Open C was a packed today thirty-four riders signing up for 48

from the inside and moved into third. Allen was pushing back and went up second to chase down Dziubinski who was riding clean all day. Nathan Rega was up in the mix as the battle for third was heating up. Coming across the

line Dziubinski solidified the lead taking the win and overall for the day. Mirroring their results from the first moto Allen and Kline rounded out the top three for the overall of a great race to end the day. The opening round at Mo-
