WELCOME MESSAGE

The President Cycling Australia 4

On behalf of Cycling Australia, I extend a very warm welcome to athletes, officials and cycling supporters from around Australia to the 2016 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships in Bendigo. It is pleasing to see such a quality field of entries and we look forward to three days of exciting racing. Our genuine appreciation is extended to the Greater City of Bendigo for their continued support of cycling and events within their region. Also to the Victorian Government for their support. I would like to acknowledge the Australian Sports Commission, Cycling Australia’s principal partner and sponsor for their ongoing contribution to the success of our sport here and abroad. Our thanks also to the Cycling Australia and Cycling Victoria staff, officials, supporters and volunteer workforce from the cycling fraternity. We appreciate the many hours of hard work that make this Championship the success that it is. Finally to the athletes, I wish you a safe and enjoyable competition and hope your personal goals are realised and that you thoroughly enjoy competing. Good luck and best wishes to you all.

WELCOME MESSAGE

Victorian Government 6

On behalf of the Victorian Government, welcome to our major events state, Victoria, proud host of the 2016 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships being held in Bendigo. Victoria lives and breathes sport. We’re home to some of the biggest events in the world, including the Australian Open tennis, the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island and Melbourne’s famous Spring Racing Carnival. We’re delighted to stage the 2016 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships, which will feature Australia’s best Under 15 and Under 17 male and female road cyclists competing for the honour of becoming Australian champion. With individual time trials, road race and criterium categories on offer, spectators can look forward to three days of high quality competition and a great atmosphere. The Victorian Government is proud to have provided support to Cycling Victoria through the Significant Sporting Events Program to stage this fantastic event. Events like these provide an opportunity to shine the spotlight on Victoria and our world-class sports and entertainment venues. Showcasing the best of sport in our own backyard provides inspiration for fans to emulate their heroes, join a club and get active and healthy through sport and recreation. Hosting major events is also great for our visitor economy – providing jobs for Victorians and helping businesses to flourish. I invite all our guests to experience all the delights Victoria has to offer, starting with Bendigo and north west Victoria. There’s an enviable array of museums, galleries, wineries, restaurants and family-friendly attractions to enjoy. I wish all visitors, competitors, volunteers and officials a safe and exciting 2016 Cycling Australia Junior Road National Championships and an enjoyable stay here in Victoria.

Hon John Eren MP Minister for Sport, Tourism and Major Events
