TETE DE LA COURSE– MATT JACKSON Fresh from his win of the Under 17 National Junior track Series, Matt Jackson shared a little of his story so far...
I started cycling in 2008 just after the Olympic Games; I watched the men’s team pursuit and said I want to do that one day. So the Olympic Games is what got me started in cycling.
· In the last six months I have been to Sydney, Tasmania, Adelaide, Melbourne and then back to Adelaide. The best experience for me was going to Adelaide for the NJTS round; it gave me good experience on the track which I hadn’t ridden on before for the lead up to the Australian National junior Track Championships to be held a few weeks after. · The competition in WA is good and healthy. Most of the riders have good respect for one another and we are all good friends off the bike. On the bike we race and do the job we need to do and that’s that. · The NJTS is very important to me because it gives the juniors more opportunity to race the people they would race at nationals a bit more and its good experience for going forward. The NJTS is a fantastic series and it taught me a lot and I really enjoyed it. · My short term goals are to have a good road season and get some results at the road nationals this year. My long term goal is to prepare for U19 track season and hopefully have a good season and make the Australian junior track team to go to the world championships. · A normal week for me leading up to the NJTS would be having a hard Monday night point score session, Tuesday is a rest day, Wednesday I would do wattbike, Thursday would usually be travel day if racing is on the Saturday, Friday I would get on the rollers and have a roll to get the legs going after the flight and Saturday would be race day. · My sporting hero would have to be Andy Schlek Read about the National Junior Track Series here
