SOCIAL ASSOCIATION
On Sunday 5 December 42 children, plus parents and friends, came together to welcome Christmas to the Club. The weather was perfect and the Social Activities (SAC) had already set the scene in the outer Bistro with a beautiful tree and decorations. The Amazing Magic Mike was the entertainment and wow, was he fantastic. From the moment he arrived the children and audience alike were enthralled with his magic tricks, humour, dancing, music and wonderful performance. Also provided were tastes of popcorn and an old favourite of everyone, fairy floss. Magic Mike was a great hit and we thank him. On his departure a light lunch was served and a great big thank you to our new Chef, Camillo, who excelled himself. The children were treated to Christmas watermelon trees, strawberry Santas, cucumber and carrot star trees, pizza pin wheels and much more. Thank you, Chef, a wonderful treat for everyone. As soon as lunch was cleared the children knew that Santa would be arriving. He was assisted by Marty Heffernan on the Club RIB. Much excitement greeted Santa and each child was given a fantastic present and, as always, a bag of lollies to take home. Thank you to Glenda and Jim Smyth who each year have donated the special lolly treat for the children. After numerous photos it was time for Santa to depart and amidst much blowing of kisses and ringing of his Santa bell, he was off. It may look easy to be Santa but for first timer Geoff Catt he was fabulous. Thank you Geoff, you were a big success. Following the departure of our special guest it was time to pack up and move to the bar. It was a great day and I extend a special thank you to the SAC Committee for their dedication and hard work; Jacq Heffernan, Giorgi Gauci, Jenny Murton, Adrian Wilson and Ann Marie Wallage.

On a beautiful Saturday evening over 65 members and guests came together to celebrate the end of another very demanding year. In what is an important tradition the Club’s Associations gather for a casual BBQ (all BYO) and possibly a few Xmas libations. The event was hosted by the Cruising, Fishing, Racing and Social Activities Committees who all generously contributed to another tradition, the free raffle. The Social Activities (SAC) spent time earlier in the day making the BBQ area festive and this year the Associations again engaged the services of entertainer, Angelo. The music was fabulous and despite dancing restrictions many members stayed on late to listen to the music and watch the sun go down. Prior to the drawing of the lottery prizes a special award was given to Adrian Wotton for his many years of service to the Cruising Association. Adrian has stood down as Chair of that Committee to be involved with the inaugural South Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta (SAWKR) which will be held over three days over the Long Weekend in October 2022. The Associations were very generous with their gifts for the very popular raffle draw, over 25 in all, and after the conclusion of the formalities there was some dancing on the lawn and raised glasses of festive cheer. The Associations are an important part of Club life and this joint event was an enjoyable gathering for all who participated.
