For more information about GTS, please visit http://www.nyu.edu/gts/ Position Summary: NYU GTS is looking to fill the position of web designer to conceptualize, define, and execute graphical designs for websites and web applications, including motion graphics, screen layouts, screen navigation and more. The Web Designer & Developer will assists faculty and instructional technologists with the creation and/or use of graphics and images for print, motion graphics, and web pages as well as transform, organize and implement instructional content (i.e.: text, images, video, animations, etc?) to be effectively presented online via our web-based lessonauthoring tool, WordPress, Google Sites, or other web authoring and facing platforms. Qualifications/Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Information Design, Digital Media Design, or other visual arts and at least 3-5 years of professional work experience or the equivalent education and years of work experience. Preferred Education: Master's degree.
Required Experience: 5 or more years of directly applicable experience in designing, developing, deploying, and operating open web platforms and services. Deployment and operation of web-based content management systems or multi-user, interactive web applications. Congenial and productive collaboration with users, subject-matter experts, and other developers in the iterative design, specification, development, and refinement of complex web applications. Extensive experience
developing web sites and implementing graphic design work on the web required. Preferred Experience: Prefer experience working with faculty and students in a higher education institution. Experience in a higher education institution, especially developing and/or supporting research and teaching innovation. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (include unique competencies, certification, licenses, etc.): Integrity, initiative, and ability to work on variety of multiple projects simultaneously and be able to prioritize and manage work to adhere to critical project timelines. Clear mastery of the following technical skills are required: Experience designing with one or more web content management systems, such as Sakai, WordPress, Google Sites; designing graphical elements for motion graphics and web applications; working with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe After Effects, Adobe CS, Avid, Final Cut Pro, and others. Experience developing dynamic websites with CSS, HTML, XHTML, XML, JavaScript, and Ajax; evaluating the usability of web user interfaces; and extensive experience developing web sites and implementing graphic design work on the web required.
Experience in iOS and Android platforms is preferred. Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills; and creative problem solving abilities and initiatives. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (include unique competencies, certification, licenses, etc.): Ability to operate a standard desktop or laptop computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Excellent interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Web 2.0 technologies such as Google APIs and working with PHP and relational databases (i.e. MySQL, SQLite). Experience with data visualization tools and working in print design with layout tools such as Quark and InDesign. Experience working with clients/customers on complex projects.
