School Mission and Vision W
ithin a nurturing Christian environment, St. Clement’s Parish School promotes each child’s academic, spiritual, moral, artistic, physical, and intellectual growth.
St. Clement’s Parish School is committed to providing a rigorous education to students from the age of three through eighth grade. We embrace academic structure while incorporating enrichment programs, innovative teaching, and experiential learning resulting in a “whole child” approach to education. St. Clement’s Parish School builds minds and develops character – we believe that building strength of character is as important as gaining knowledge and skills.
2
MESSAGE from the Head of School DEAR FRIENDS,
T
hank you for believing in the mission of St. Clement’s Parish School and for your continued generous financial support through your gifts and donations. Your gifts are very important allowing our team of dedicated educators to provide an exceptional educational experience not only to your child but for generations to come. Annual reports are filled with much data such as names, facts, and figures. These facts, although important, do not give a true picture of the excellence of education that takes place on a daily basis at St. Clement’s Parish School. This excellence is due to your generous support through gifts and donations. For some, a gift recognized in this report is the direct result of a teacher, coach, or specific program that had a positive impact on our students. For others, their gifts or donations are because it brings the donor joy in knowing they have contributed to furthering excellence in education for others. As the new Head of School for St. Clement’s Parish School I am blessed each and every day as I interact with our students in daily chapel, on the playground, in the Pavilion, or in one of our state-ofthe-art classrooms. Our students are not just getting a world-class education but are immersed daily in character development that cultivates social responsibility, respect for all others, and personal integrity. Our mission at St. Clement’s Parish School is to promote each child’s academic, spiritual, moral, artistic, physical, and intellectual growth. This is possible through your generous support. The 2017- 2018 school year is our celebration of 60 years of excellence. Many positive changes have taken place since our birth in 1958 in the basement of the Church of St. Clement with six faculty members, two kindergarten classes, one first grade class, one second grade class, and one third grade class. St. Clement’s Parish School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award in 1997, one of the first schools in El Paso to be distinguished with this honor. Our physical plant has changed to what we are today largely due to the generosity from our parents, grandparents, alumni, board, and staff. One way we can help you be an effective ambassador is by sharing St. Clement’s stories through this report. Please enjoy this Annual Report, which is our opportunity to acknowledge and thank you for your continued support of St. Clement’s Parish School. Sincerely,
Dr. John T. Roskosky Head of School

BOARD OF MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR DEAR ST. CLEMENT’S COMMUNITY,
2018 marks the 60th anniversary of St. Clement’s Parish School, a milestone that should allow us to reflect on our historic past and promising future. From the earliest days, our mission has remained steadfast and true: nurturing our students in a Christian environment while giving them the tools and ethics required for success in a very challenging and changing world. Today, we continue to honor that mission. I believe that St. Clement’s Parish School will remain true to the commitment we have set forth to our students and parents by setting the highest standards of education, giving our graduates confidence in their abilities to achieve excellence.
Fred King Chair, St. Clement’s Board of Trustees The St. Clement’s School Board of Trustees is an integral part of the St. Clement’s Community. Parent Cou Parent Council is an essential part of the St. Clement’s Community, and is made up of parent volunteers who want to help and support the school. Parent Council focuses on faculty and staff appreciation, supplementing desired items to enhance the classrooms, building community among the school families, and keeping parents informed on a more personal level. Monthly meetings are held with an open invitation to all parents at the school, and all parents with a desire to help are welcome. Without the time, effort, and dedication of our parent volunteers, Parent Council would not be possible.

Teacher Recognition LOWER SCHOOL
Mrs. Paige Mandell, fourth grade teacher, teaches the academic and social details that lead into the big moments for learning. Mrs. Mandell’s logical, light-hearted approach eases students into their school day. She is interested in her students as people in their own right and is able to identify and admire the unique characteristics of each child. Mrs. Mandell teaches her students about independence using effective and positive lessons. Mrs. Mandell continues her own professional learning, works diligently with faculty to improve programs for the lower school, and supports the school by attending after school events all while thriving in a classroom surrounded by fourth graders. And this is done with humor, wit, compassion and style. She is a role model and benchmark for her students’ growth and development. She is part of a loving family (husband and St. Clement’s Parish School alum Chris and daughters and St. Clement’s Parish School students Madison and Sidney) who help to support her endeavors. St. Clement’s Parish School joyously and with heartfelt gratitude honors the complex teaching role that Mrs. Mandell takes on each and every day.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
According to the Miriam Webster dictionary, exemplary is a descriptor including and at the same time going beyond having the quality of excellence. Being exemplary also carries the suggestion that something or someone serves as a worthy model or guide. The St. Clement’s Middle School teacher given this honor for the 216-2017 school year is exemplary. Ms. Villalobos has offered her leadership skills to our school in many ways including serving as a sponsor for the Student Council and being an understanding mentor to our new history teacher. She has been a leader on the week-long seventh grade outdoor education trip and has also coordinated building the School’s PSIA team and the team’s involvement in both the District and State academic competitions which were both held out of town. Ms. Villalobos collaborates with a colleague to coteach seventh grade English Language Arts and views the experience as an opportunity to align and improve the program. Additionally, she volunteered at our first Middle School Bingo Night. Ms. Villalobos possesses extensive expertise in her content area of English Language Arts. She embraces learning and searches out best practices to implement in her teaching. She is an avid reader. She is confident and articulate. She communicates her enthusiasm for her subject area and her commitment to working with our students with a genuine, positive approach, and a flash of her heart-warming smile. 19
