CALL FOR PROPOSALS: NAMLE 2013 CONFERENCE JULY 12-‐‑13 IN LOS ANGELES Conference Themed "ʺIntersections: Teaching and Learning across Media” Session Proposals due Monday, January 21, 2013

(Los Angeles, CA -‐‑ January 15, 2013) – Call for proposals are being requested by the 2013 National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) Conference, which will convene in Torrance, California on July 12-‐‑13. Hundreds of educators in the field of media literacy will attend the conference to share ideas and information on the impact of media on society and ways of educating teachers and students to respond to new pressures and opportunities inherent in a highly mediated culture. The NAMLE 2013 Conference theme is "ʺIntersections: Teaching and Learning across Media."ʺ Media-‐‑savvy educators now have the chance to articulate via proposed sessions how new pedagogies can erect road signs at the intersections where communication practices, platforms, and cultures cross paths. We seek innovative perspectives, refreshing ways to approach our educational problems and generate dialogue relevant to 21st Century careers, citizens, relationships, and lifestyles. Session proposals are due by 11:59 PM (PST) Monday, January 21, 2013. We welcome session proposals from media producers, media literacy educators, advocates, and researchers who use media as the backbone to teaching and learning. Proposals should provoke new areas of media literacy practice both in and out of the classroom and offer guidance towards a deeper understanding of how creative production can offer a balanced ethical approach across media. Participants will have the opportunity to share evidence that inquiry-‐‑based teaching can produce deeply engaged thinkers and communicators. Educators and thought leaders interested in proposing a session can submit their proposal by January 21, 2013 at: http://namle.net/conference/call-‐‑for-‐‑proposals Media communications are ubiquitous, and youth often adopt these technologies at a faster pace than schools can integrate them into curriculum.
