CYPRESS CHARGERS
Head Coach Nancy Welliver 10th Season Head coach Nancy Welliver is entering her 29th year of coaching including the last nine years at Cypress. She led Cypress to their best finish in program history in 2004. Welliver led the Chargers to two Cinderella upsets as a 16 seed upsetting #1 seed El Camino and #8 seed Orange Coast to lead Cypress to their first ever State Championship appearance. Before Cypress, Welliver spent fourteen years at Cerritos College making
eight appearances at the State Championships with four runner-up finishes and one State Championship Title in 1992. She also spent some time at Fullerton College going to the State Championships two out of her three years there and finishing as the state runner up in 1996.
Assistant Coach Teresa Sestito 10th Season
Sestito has spent the last decade in coaching starting in 1996 at Lakewood High School with the frosh/soph boys team while concurrently beginning her tenure with the Seal Beach Volleyball Club. In 1997, Sestito returned to her alma mater at Long Beach City as an assistant coach for two seasons. In 2000, she settled at Cypress.
Sestito’s volleyball career began at Lakewood High School and also participated in club play as a part of the Ichiban Volleyball Club. Sestito began her collegiate career at Long Beach City earning First Team all-South Coast Conference. From there, Sestito moved on to Sonoma State setting a conference record for digs in a single match. She was Sonoma’s starting outside hitter and captain leading the team in digs and second in kills.
Assistant Coach Chelsea Oldfield 1st Season Oldfield returns to Cypress as a coach for the Chargers after playing two years on the volleyball and basketball teams and served as a captain of the 2008 volleyball team. She graduated from Cypress in 2009 and was named the Outstanding Graduate of the Year. She currently attends Azusa Pacific University and is majoring in Nursing. She is also participating in Army
ROTC at APU and will graduate s a 2nd Lieutenant Officer. Oldfield came to Cypress in 2007 as a graduate of Calvary Chapel where she captained both the basketball and volleyball teams.

5’9” Sophomore Outside Hitter St. Paul HS Cypress Highlights: Played in 90 games for the Chargers in 2008 collecting 180 kills, 351 digs, and 16 blocks… a Second Team all-Orange Empire Conference selection… had a season high 14 kills in just three games against Riverside. High School Highlights: A four year varsity standout for the Matadores… earned First Team all-Suburban League and All-Area honors all four years… was named the Rookie of the
Year and was given the 110% award as a freshman… earned the team’s Most Valuable Player award three seasons in a row… was named the school’s Athlete of the Week three times… named to the all-CIF team as a sophomore, junior, and senior… also participated in soccer and softball. Personal: Born on July 21, 1990… parents are Pat and Henry Saavedra… siblings are Cherie and Chase… majoring in psychology… chose to play at Cypress for the “great group of girls”… heroes are her family.

5’10” Sophomore Mid. Block./Rt. Side LB Jordan HS Cypress Highlights: Played in all 113 games for the Chargers in 2008… produced 138 kills with a .263 attack percentage and 56 blocks… had a season high 9 kills in 13 attempts in three games against Saddleback. High School Highlights: A four year standout for the Panthers… was named the team’s Most Improved Player as a freshman and sophomore… was named First Team all-Moore League as a junior… captained Jordan’s team as a Senior and earned the Sportsmanship Award… had a season high 13 kills against Long Beach Poly her senior season… participated in club volley4

5’9” Sophomore Outside Hitter LB Jordan HS Cypress Highlights: Smashed the Charger record for kills in a season racking up 479 in 2008… was named a First Team all-Orange Empire Conference player… led the conference in kills (460) for 4.65 per game… was named the team’s most valuable player… broke the record for kills in a match collecting 34 against Riverside. High School Highlights: A four year varsity standout for the Panthers… was named the team’s Most Valuable Player three years in a row… was a Second Team all-Moore League selection as a
freshman and then followed that with three straight First team selections… had a season high 19 kills against Mayfair her senior season… also participated in softball and basketball… was on the Honor Roll as a freshman and sophomore. Personal: Born on October 19, 1990… parents are Alicia Enriquez and Kerry Samoa … siblings are Jazmine, Kahivalani, Julia, and Nathan… sister Jazmine also plays for the Chargers… majoring in criminal justice… goal for this season is to “be the best teammate and to be disciplined on the court”… favorite aspect about volleyball is teamwork and friendship.
