A letter from your President Hey fellow key clubbers! We have had a great semester so far and can’t for the next one! Most members were able to complete the 25 hour requirement. If not, they will get opportunity to finish them next semester! Sorry for the delay of t-shirts, they should be coming in this month! In addition, we elected our new president for the 2020-21 year! I’m glad to say that our current repcoordinator Sydney Lagard will take the position after LEDCON! Next month, we plan on interviewing for all new officer and rep positions! If you’re interested, keep a look out on google classroom for more information! Happy Holidays! Yours in Service, Aarthi Annamalai

A Letter from your LTG
Hey 3N! It is absolutely insane to think that we've made it through much more than HALF of this Key Club year. When I started 8 months ago, I really could not imagine the impact we've made through 7 months and it's honestly surreal that I have the ability to interact with and make as big of a difference as we have this term.
07
With that said, I really want someone else to have the opportunity to experience exactly what I have these past few months. If you or anyone you know is interested in running for LTG, please let me know ASAP so I can give them (or you) the candidacy form! This month, we saw some major progress with the trauma doll project and we are getting some massive developments going in the "divisional tournament" category. I think that we could do something like an Ultimate Frisbee tournament, and have huge turnout from across the division. It's a really good opportunity to meet people, so be on the lookout for information about this soon! Other than that, keep grinding out your service/ volunteering, and make an impact on someone this month. Make someone's day better! Yours in Service, Raj Patel
December Service Project
With the holiday season upon us, our outstanding CyWoods Key Clubbers came together to complete a variety of service projects and to celebrate the holidays! Together we stuffed bright red stockings with various necessities such as deodorant, socks, and small snacks to be sent to homeless shelters and filled little red velvet bags with goodies to be delivered to kids at the nearby Texas Children's Hospital. And ultimately, to spread some holiday cheer, we made every Key Clubber a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy before the long-awaited break.

Key Clubber of the Month As a freshman, I simply joined Key Club for the same reason as any one else: college and leadership positions. Looking back, I’m grateful for my typical, naive mindset that pulled me into Key Club, because I can confidently say I wouldn’t be the same person I am today. I quickly learned that Key Club is not “just a high school club”, but an organization that consistently offers a friendly, encouraging, and positive environment within their events and opportunities to better the community and yourself. I never expected to have the fun I had through volunteering and the people I met. Most importantly, it helped to build myself into a responsible, confident, and organized leader through the chances Key Club has offered me.

Key Club Resolutions This picture shows some of the members conversing with the representatives and interacting more. This is something our club needs to promote within the next year. - Dorina Balogh
As the new year of 2020 comes closer and closer, it not only represents the start of a new decade, but also a chance to implement resolutions into your lifestyle to make you an overall better person. These generally allow people to create a path to follow for a fresh start in the New Year. Similarly, since Key Club is an important part of my life, I believe it is important that we make some resolutions for 2020 specific to the club. First, I believe that a helpful resolution for Key Club is to encourage members and representatives alike to try to apply for higher positions. I am friends with many seniors in Key Club at Cy-Woods and at other schools, and they share that one of their greatest regrets was not having enough confidence to try out for a higher position. Whether it’s a member striving to be a representative or a representative attempting to be secretary or treasurer, it is crucial that our club shares all the benefits of being a leader in order to encourage them to run for higher positions. In addition, DCON also really helps prepare Key Clubbers to be leaders and confident individuals, so if a student attends DCON, our club needs to support them in running for a higher position despite their fear of being rejected. Although interviews can be little nerve-racking, if you end up earning the position, it allows you to gain so many useful leadership qualities that even colleges will look at in the future. Next, a resolution that needs to be implemented into Key Club is greater interaction with club members at the meetings. This is not only important to me, but it also encourages some members to become more involved in the club. This allows us to branch out of our comfort zones and meet new people just as passionate about volunteering. Since Key Club and volunteering is a common interest between me and other members, it can provide an opportunity to interact more with them and get to know them as a person. In fact, this fall during volunteering events, I have definitely met new people and I have become good friends with some of them. This is something that I should continue to do throughout my years in Key Club, which is why I included it as something Key Club should improve upon because I’m sure other members have similar problems with communication and involvement. The last thing Key Club can improve on is branching out to do a wider variety of events, not just concessions and events benefitting the school. Since volunteering is truly about helping out the community, it is important that we reach out more and assist organizations such as the Houston Food Bank or CAM, as well as retirement homes. This would be beneficial because currently our club primarily sticks to events at schools and churches, while we could be reaching out even farther in the meantime. A New Year’s Resolution for our club could be to look for more events outside of what we do now that benefit more people. Overall, there are many ideas that Key Club could improve upon in the upcoming year that could boost it and its popularity within our home, school, and community!

Thank You Key Club! Key Clubber Trisha Shah writes a card for a service project. -Kiran Khan
Key Club is one of the stepping stones for success in the future for several students. Cypress Woods’ Key Club is a unique club and offers events which are not seen in any other volunteer club in the school. Furthermore, it is the biggest club in the club having approximately 400 members, and this requires a lot of attention and care to facilitate large scale service projects, events, meetings, and socials. Its large size, dedication to service, and leadership opportunities require specific skills which prepare its members for the real world after school. One way Key Club can benefit kids in the future is through its availability of leadership roles. Key Club possesses a staff at the school, district, state, national, and global levels promising an abundance of positions which students can opt to run for. Additionally, due to its prestigious reputation, it calls the attention of several students. This friendly competition can prove beneficial as it mimics the atmosphere created when one has to go participate in a job interview or college scholarship interviews, etc. These leadership roles foster the values of responsibility, organization, and confidence in the hearts of many. Kids learn how to speak in front of large groups of people, convey their ideas and plans to members and adults alike, and prepare for meetings. Secondly, Key Club’s dedication to service displays a sense of philanthropy to those who choose to partake in events. Students learn the significance of giving back to the community when you are fortunate enough to be able to help others. This realization is essential to the growth of people in a moral sense as these students understand that most of their actions should help those in need and create more good in the world. Key Club is unique in its mission to help others in any way, shape or form. Its makeup of bright and hardworking students only pave the way for more success for the club. What most people do not realize is that this club offers many things in return as well to those who make an effort to make Key Club great every day. Its opportunity for leadership roles- which strengthen communication skills and a sense of responsibility in students -and its service-oriented mission develop skills in kids which might not have been possible. These skills help students in the future as they go on their way to get jobs which allow them to embrace their talents and help the people around them.
