A letter from your President Hey key clubbers! I hope everyone’s had a great time easing back into the second semester! This month we have so much planned for our club! Firstly, it is time to elect our new reps and officers for the 2020-2021 school year! If you're interested in applying, make sure to keep up with the information on google classroom. Second, DCON planning has officially started! All reps and officers are formally invited to attend this convention in April. The parent meeting will be held in two weeks, so let your parents know if you want more details about the event. Lastly, this month we will be holding the Lock In. All members and potential members are invited to an evening of fun and service projects! This is a great hours opportunity so I highly recommend you attend! If you have any questions, please let me know or email the gmail!

A Letter from your LTG Hey 3N! We are officially in the home stretch of the Key Club year! As I write this, I literally feel like a proud parent after seeing what everyone has accomplished this year. Every single school, although facing their own setbacks/struggles, has become so much stronger and better after this year. You all have grown so much as Key Clubbers, Leaders, Students, and most importantly, Servers this year. You have all taken on the challenges that I threw at you in stride, and have overcome almost all of them. Looking ahead to LEDCON, I cannot wait to see every single one of you there and I strongly suggest that all of you consider coming. Now, I know that prom weekend for some of us is that weekend, but Juniors + Underclassmen MUST be there. If you cannot for financial reasons, contact me and maybe we can work something out! However, I want everyone in this division at DCON to have a great time and deepen your love for Key Club. All in all, I want to tell everyone in this division that I am so proud of the work and the absolute grind that you have taken upon yourselves, and let's continue the good work until DCON!

Yours in Service, Raj Patel

Key Club's Influence Emily Nguyen

One option for volunteering is helping out in the concessions stands, refilling popcorn bags. Since middle school, I have been integrated within Kiwanis activities. I joined Builder’s Club in 7th grade, and became vice president of Spillane’s Builders Club in 8th grade. Entering high school made me think about the different clubs I could be joining, and I was contemplating many different community service extracurricular activities. The main reason I was attracted to Key Club was my background with Kiwanis and how large this club as at Cypress Woods High School. Key Club also has a great reputation for helping out in the community and giving gracious volunteer opportunities. Key Club is a large organization throughout the nation and we have many diverse clubs at all of our Cypress Fairbanks schools. At Cypress Woods, Key Club is the largest club and I know we offer lots of volunteering hours for every individual. I am a freshman this year, and Key Club made the biggest impression on me as I explored for different clubs. They advertised that they were the largest club in school, and that they had lots of opportunity to help out in the local community. I was intrigued at how they took community projects and service to the next level, being a step up from Builder’s Club. Coming into the first meeting, I did not see much into how Key Club here operated, however, as soon as the second meeting came around, I got to learn how remarkably close the Key Club family really was. I interviewed to become a freshman representative immediately after that. Volunteering has always been an exciting activity I try to stay consistent in. Not only is it fun to help out and give back, I get to do it with my fellow Key Club family and friends. Luckily, I was able to learn about Builder’s Club at an earlier age, and I was able to discover this activity sooner. Builder’s Club was such a blast for me in middle school, I searched for as many different volunteering clubs in high school. Cypress Woods had an amazing Key Club reputation, so I am so glad to be able to continue my journey as a Kiwanis member. We have multiple volunteering events available for every member here, and I have completed many exciting hours. Recently, I have been working the Cypress Woods concession stands for basketball and volleyball games. Key Club has had such a ginormous influence on my community life, and they have a large reputation that constantly brings in new members to our family. Key Club will forever be influencing members with their strong volunteering options. Their friendliness has always been an aspect I admired and I hope outside, soon to be members, see that too!

The Importance of Character Building Audrey Knoll

Key Club students from various schools are seen interacting with each other. Character building is defined as requiring effort or endurance to a degree that strengthens or improves a person's character. I can think of nothing more important than character building when it comes to core values. Character building is what leads a person to become the best version of themselves that they can possibly be. It pushes a person to take risks, make mistakes, and to learn new things from their past experiences. Key Club states that character is built by everyday acts of kindness, integrity, and teamwork to grow stronger relationships and communities. If you break that down into little parts, you can see that each piece makes up an essential part of a character that every person strives to be. For example, take kindness; every person wants to display the generosity, patience, and unselfishness that comes through kindness. The next part is integrity; it is important that everyone has a sense of honesty and virtue to represent themselves with. Without it, you have nothing to stand for. The final part is teamwork. It truly takes a team to accomplish monumentally success. Having a team tremendously boosts your confidence and allows you to achieve your goals in a great way. Everyone knows that you affect other people, but more importantly, other people affect you. The people that you surround yourself with can make a huge impact on your character.

Although other people may argue that another one of the core values is more important than character building, I argue that leadership, caring, and inclusiveness are all parts of character building. A true leader listens, recognizes, and empowers others to be the best person that they can be. If that doesn’t sound like character building to you, then I don’t know what does. Character building doesn’t have to be exclusive to just yourself, it can be others as well, and there is no other way to build others up than inspiring them as a leader. The next value is caring. If this isn’t already obvious, being caring is a huge part of character building. Being caring means as little as just paying attention to as big as totally cherishing someone. Again this trait builds up not only your character but others in a huge way. It only takes a simple compliment to lift someone up and knowing that there are people that care for you can make a ginormous difference in someone’s life. Finally, the last value is inclusiveness. For Key Club, that means welcoming people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to join in serving and making a positive difference in our world. However, on a general level, this means cooperating with others to make a difference in the community, and this goes along with the teamwork that is discussed as a part of teamwork. In the end, each of the Key Club values is significant in their own way, but I think that character building is the most important due to the life-changing impacts it has on other people as well as yourself.
