A letter from your

Club President ear Cypress Woods Key Club, D I hope y’all’s summer has been amazing so

far! It’s finally time to relax from the school year and get some free time. With this extra free time, an excellent use of it would be to go out and get some community service done! We have great events lined up for the month of July and everyone should make an effort to participate. This month we have the opportunity to volunteer at a Houston Poodle Rescue Booth at a fun dog show. Volunteers will run a prize wheel and a disk drop game, sell raffle tickets, and show off adoptable dogs. This booth will be raising money for the Poodle Rescue and with that money, the organization will be able to shelter and take care of more dogs who are waiting to be adopted. Another event we have this month is Cypress’ triathlon. This is an event that has been organized by the Cy-Fair Kiwanis themselves! Signing up for this event won’t only help the athletes and organizers of the triathlon event, but it will also help the generate Photo provided by Anushua Mantrala. money for the Cy-Fair Kiwanis and they will use that money to help the Cy-Fair Key Clubs and to contribute to the Key Club scholarships that are awarded every year. This event is truly a win-win. A splash from the past has also come to us! A couple of months ago, our Key Club helped out the Houston Premium Outlets with a Mother’s Day event. The people who organized the event were so delighted with our hard working Key Clubbers that they have asked us to help out with a Summer event for kids. This event will include a photo booth, a scavenger hunt, performers, face painting, and more! Volunteering for this will truly be a mix of the greatness of summer and service, the best combination! Also this month, the presidents of the 3N division are meeting up for the first time! This is exciting because this will enable us to form connections with the Key Clubs in our community. With these connections, we will be able to plan interclub and social with our surrounding Key Clubs. By going to social and interclub, we will be able to meet new people who have the same goal of serving the community as us! A big task for us this month is to create an awesome shirt design for our club shirt this year. If you are creative, artistic, or just have an awesome idea in mind, please email cywoodskeyclub@gmail.com to share your interest and idea. Then you can start working on your design and at the end, when we get everybody’s design, we can vote on which design can ultimately be the face of our new Key Club year t-shirt! I hope the rest of your summer is fantastic and I can’t wait to see you all soon!

Key Club Representative expresses what he has learned with his last year of Key Club around the corner

This coming fall, my back will start aching, I will suddenly enjoy ten Matthew Trinh Representative thousand piece puzzles and spend the rest of my days on a rocking chair as I become a senior and experience my last year of Key Club. Gather around; gather around before it’s my 4 pm bed time, it is story time from this old timer! The year was 2013, yes I know such a long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I was young whippersnapper and joined Key Club as freshman. Boy, it was quite an adventure. The

8

following two years, I gave my service to Key Club and became an officer. Some old timers will tell you elaborate stories and life advice from being an officer in the arm forces but I will tell you about something much more interesting, my time as an officer in Key Club. Over the years as an awesome Key Club officer, I have learned much about leadership and service; however, the most important thing I have learned is the best leader is a friend. The best leader and the one I strive to be is one who is there for the Key Clubbers – there to serve alongside with them, there to build them up when they are down, and there to laugh along with them when they are smiling. I strive not to

dictate and order others, but to lead with my actions and to set an example. I am not a part of the Key Club members but rather a part of Key Club members. The most important thing I have learned from my past experience as an officer is that I am a friend to serve and build others - my fellow friends in Key Club. Next year, as I retire into senior life with my last year as a Key Club officer, I hope to leave my mark in Key Club and the hearts of our Key Clubbers. I will strive to be that one old timer the underclassmen remember who taught them the meaning of service and to love to serve. I will strive to be a friend to all, be it bird or fish or tiny mole. (Up reference!)
