NATIONAL FILM ARCHIVE – A NEW FILM COLLECTION National Film Archive (NFA), one of the ten oldest and biggest film archives in the world, founded in 1943 is a member of FIAF (International Federation of Film Archives) and one of the founding members of ACE (Association des Cinémathe`ques Européenes). Since 2011, NFA has been the warrantor of important digital restoration projects (Marketa Lazarova, Closely Watched Trains, All My Good Countrymen). NFA newly handles both domestic and international sales of the films made in Czechoslovakia from 1965 to 1991, produced by Barrandov and Zlin film studios, both state owned at the time. The State Cinematography Fund, the owner of the rights to these films, signed the contract with NFA in May 2014. The Fund grants NFA an exclusive license, without territorial, time and volume limitation, for all rights to which the Fund is entitled. The future income will be used for the support of new Czech films. Czech films produced before 1964 have been under NFA’s administration for many years. Merging of both collections will make it significantly simpler for film buyers to approach all the films administrated by the state, as the two collections divided by the year 1964 will now become one.
