Kendric D. Jones
2022 TRAILBLAZER
Kendric D. Jones was born and raised in the inner city of Houston, Texas, by a single mother. He is a proud graduate of Lamar High School and Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics. During his tenure, he served as Student Body President and City Councilman for Prairie View, Texas. Kendric understands the sacrifice and hard work required by Texans to pave a better life for their families because he experienced it firsthand. During his time at PVAMU, Kendric exhibited a powerful voice on campus and spoke out on key issues such as student housing, public safety, and community morale. Kendric was elected to Prairie View City Council in 2017. He continued to work in a legislative research capacity while also serving on the City Council for 3 years. He remained committed to the City of Prairie View by running for re-election in 2019. Kendric is a fierce champion of progress and transparency in Waller County where he serves as County Commissioner for Precinct 3. He is the youngest County Commissioner ever to be elected in Texas. He believes the role of government is meant to be of the people, by the people, and for the people. Kendric, therefore, considers service to his community as not only his responsibility, but his calling in life. Kendric considers himself a diligent worker and effective problem solver. He is known for having an ear for the people and emulating the change he desires to see in the world. Throughout his stellar public service career, Kendric’s advocacy has helped ensure students, middleclass families, and seniors enjoy the best quality of life possible. In addition to acting as County Commissioner, Kendric also volunteers for several community organizations, including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Southeast Texas Housing Association, Houston Livestock & Rodeo, and the College of Agriculture Advisory Board at PVAMU to name a few. He is also the co-author of a book with his beautiful mom titled, “Quotes, Phrases, and Sayings That Speak to The: MIND, BODY & SOUL.” The goal is to speak purpose into the reader, encouraging growth in all phases of life that make us whole as a people.
