“Architecture is a way of seeing, thinking and questioning our world and our place in it.” - Thom Mayne

As an architect and design student I’ve started to understand societies in a different way. The most important thing I’ve learned through my career is that architects and designers have to be conscious of the enviroment that surrounds them. The place, culture, geography are elements that have to be considered all time, creating a dialogue with the space, the structure and materials, in order to create a proyect that responds to the condidtions. The following works are a summary of my bahcelor degree, they have been selected with the intention of displaying a variety of scales, topics and representations. The projects have been completed individually and in team works, I seek to continue my studies in these two fields, and work among the both of them, complementing each other.

COUNTRY HOUSE

Country House in Valle del Abra Subachoque, Cundinamarca The project was located in the country side in Valle del Aura, a beautifull vast valley in Subachoque, Colombia. The work consisted in getting to know the place and design a house for our own , taking into account the lighting, topography and weather conditions. The objective of the design was to create different spaces with an independent view of the valley, that is why the shape of the house is an hexagon , in which each space is facing a different direction. All of them are oriented towards a big mountain, therefore receiving morning light and afternoon light in order to keep intimate spaces warm at nights. The house consists in 4 parts, separated by intimacy levels. In two of these volumes the public activities take place, the living room is placed in the first room and the kitchen is placed in the next room at the right. The other two are focused for the private activities (bedroom and painting room).

Cultural and artistic center in ParaĂso Mirador Ciudad Bolviar, BogotĂĄ This project is located in a neighborhood of an informal origin, which means it was constructed by the residents with out any previous plan or analysis of the place. Therefore is a neighborhood with some difficulties and a lack of public space and cultural buildings. Getting to know the community we discovered that the residents practiced many artistique activities, such as dance, musique, and others; but they struggled finding a place to practice and perform perform. Therefore our proposal is a cultural and artistique center in order to give the possibility to the residents to have a space to realize their activities, and to create a public space open for the public.

The proyect consisted in designing Finland’s Embassy in Bogotá. One of the architects studied in class was Alvar Aalto, therefore the embassy’s desing was focused on Alvar Aalto’s projects, taking into account his material, spacial and conceptual desitions. The embassy was separated by private spaces and intimate spaces. The embassy consisted in a dinning room, event’s room, housing for guests and a private house for the embassador and his family. Through the backyard and topography the two spaces were separated in order to create spaces with more activity and a private and comfortable house for the embassador.

FACADE DESIGN

Facade design C.U.A.N Centro Urbano Antonio Nariño Bogotá, Colombia During the class different materials were studdied and applied in the exercises. In this project we studied the different ways of working with ceramic. An existing building in Bogotá was chosen and we had to propose a new facade with this material. We created a second skin which gave the oportunity to gain space and area in the building and in each apartment. The proposal consists in flexible panels built with bricks and a steel frame, that rotated in their own vertical axis, in order to create diferent atmospheres in the residence. This not only gives a different experience in the inside of the building, but it creates a constant changing facade.

CONCRETE PAVILION

Concrete Pavilion Jardín Botánico Bogotá, Colombia During the class different materials were studdied and applied in the exercises. In this project we studied the different ways of working with concrete. The project consisted in choosing a tree in the Botanical Garden in Bogotá Colombia, and designing a building for it. We chose a caucho tequendama, a traditional tree from Bogotá region. The concept of the pavilion is a path inspired in Cycle (2011) the art sculpture by Richard Serra. Through the pavillion the person should walk through different atmospheres where the corridors narrow or get wider in order to find and appreciate the tree. Three circles were created in order to give different experiences to the visitor, the first circle it’s the recieving hall, the second is a circle to appreciate the water and the third and last is to admire the chosen tree the caucho tequendama.

COCO CHANEL

Coco Chanel

The project consisted in chosing a famous character in history. The chosen character was Coco chanel. She was born in France in a humble family. In her youth she travels to France ,where she starts her fashion buisness by selling fancy hats. She became very popular in the high french society and the buisness grew to the fashion empire that it’s nowadays. The project consisted in understanding coco chanel in a personal way, as the strong, independent, revolutionist and brave women she was; the one that changed women’s fashion, giving women the opportunity to dress elegant and classy, but most importantly comfortable. These ideas had to be expressed through different ways of representation, in order to learn the different graphic and visual skills a designer should have.

SUSTAINABLE BRAND After studying the global enviromental crisis by which the textile industry is one of the most pollutants ,we wanted to create a conscious brand that expanded the recycling culture in Bogotรก. We analized different stores in Bogotรก that focuse on used clothes to understand the buisness model, startegy and clients. Therefore we choose our audience, young women adults in the city and we created a sustainable brand with re used clothes of our own. We picked up old clothes and personally modify them, to give them a new modern style to create a succesfull model. The buisness started with a virtual brand on an instagram network with the goal to expand and create a store in the city with our products.
