5 MAIN Magazine A WELCOME GUIDE FOR INCOMING DOLLS OFFICERS

Hello AND Welcome FROM DOLLS HEADQUARTERS

I'm Gale Carter and I started DOLLS. I did it because in God’s great grace, He saw fit to save me at a very young age, just like He did for you. Have you ever considered what a blessing it is that God opened our eyes to our sin and our need for a Savior at such a remarkably young age? I mean, we have been spared from so much! If the Lord had not made me into a new creation who hated my sin, I would have continued pursuing my flesh into the deepest depths of wickedness. But God is merciful. That’s why I started DOLLS. The moment the Lord opened my eyes to the person and work of Christ, I knew I had to get this information (i.e. Good News) into other young girls’ hands and hearts...STAT! That mission is now the legacy you have inherited. I want to welcome you to our family and to our ministry. The mission you have accepted is no small deal. The Lord has entrusted you with a platform on which He has seen fit over the years to powerfully use to glorify Himself and to bring new girls into the Kingdom. It is a great privilege that God would grant you this kind of potential influence. It is not to be taken lightly. DOLLS Headquarters is going to be with you every step of the way. James 3:1 says that not many of us should become teachers because we will incur a stricter judgement for what we do in our positions of influence. DOLLS HQ’s job is to help guide, coach, and protect you throughout your year in leadership so that you can present your ministry as a faithful offering unto the Lord. This magazine is designed to give you some idea about how we are going to support you in your leadership. We have so much we wish to impart to you! Our aim is that you will leave this year of service with an even greater desire for ministry and an increased arsenal of tools to continue serving the Lord with your life. I want to thank you for your heart for “doing hard things” for the sake of our King. I count it my greatest honor that the Lord would allow me to link arms with you as we both work together to take territory for the Lord. May God grant us unity in spirit and determination of heart as we journey this year of ministry together.

WE KNOW YOU HAVE

WHO IS DOLLS HEADQUARTERS? DOLLS HQ is the corporate headship of the DOLLS ministry. Their job is to govern all activities related to fullling our mission and upholding our vison and values. The Headquarters team is comprised of a small group of endlessly faithful and endlessly sacricial women who serve as our Executive Ministry Team, Board of Directors, Legacy Counselors, and Ambassadors. These women come from varying backgrounds--from public education to nance--but the two things they all have in common is a love for the Lord and a call to support the advancement of the Gospel through the good work you will be performing as an ofcer of this ministry. Currently DOLLS does not have any paid employees on our ministry team. These women tirelessly volunteer their time and talent because they believe God wants to use YOU, by His grace, to usher people into His Kingdom.

TO WHOM WILL I REPORT?

Answers to Common Questions Girls Ask About Being a 5 Main 6

Each of our chapters are assigned to report to a woman from DOLLS Headquarters known as your Chapter Director. Your Chapter Director exists to help you accomplish all God has given you to do through your ministry with DOLLS. Consider this woman your sergeant, your coach, and your mentor. You will hear from your Chapter Director on a regular basis throughout your year of ministry to receive your marching orders. Your Chapter Director will be a tremendous asset to your leadership and spiritual development over the next year. After nearly two decades of experience, your Chapter Director is equipped to mentor young women in ministry and leadership development. Lean on her as often as you need! DOLLS HQ is here to help you, to encourage you, to kick you in the tail (when you need it), and to help you nish this race strong!

WHY DO OFFICERS HAVE TO PAY OFFICER DUES?

DOES HQ EXPECT ME TO HAVE A HUGE CHAPTER ALL YEAR?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “You need some skin in the game?” That’s basically the heart behind our ofcer dues. DOLLS and its donors are about to invest exponentially more than the small cost of these dues into your spiritual growth, into your leadership, and into your character. Your investment is your way of communicating to us that you take what you are about to embark on as seriously as we do. Each ofcer of DOLLS demonstrates their commitment to the ministry and to their fellow 5 Main by making a personal investment in the ministry in the form of these Ofcer Dues. DOLLS Headquarters works really hard throughout the year to generate the funding needed to sustain the operations of our organization. These dues are your way of showing your commitment to the ministry before our donors invest substantially to equip you for ministry. They’re paying to train you, to purchase your tickets to every DOLLS-Sponsored event, to load you up with a bunch of cool DOLLS gear so people recognize you as the leader, and to give you a mentor who will help guide you through your year of ministry. That means that once your initial investment in the ministry is paid, DOLLS will not cost a dollar more for the remainder of year, thanks to our faithful donors!

DOLLS Headquarters could not possibly care ANY LESS about the size of our chapters. Only the World measures success through numbers. As long as you are faithfully doing the work the Lord has given you to do in your position, we will count that as a success. Our sole ambition is to glorify God by sharing His Gospel. Faithfulness to this purpose will be our only boast. Whether or not someone receives this Good News and is brought to repentance and faith is entirely up to the Lord. First Corinthians 3:7 says, “So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but [it is] God who causes the growth.” Whether there are 3 people in attendance at your meetings or 50, our focus will always remain on the pure teaching of the Gospel. If we stand committed and faithful to that purpose alone, we will count ourselves successful and we will leave the rest up to God. If your ministry should be like that of the prophet, Jeremiah’s, and all that is achieved by your witness is that God’s good name is lifted high, it will be worth it none-theless because He is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

WHAT CAN I DO TO GET STARTED NOW?

Your year as an ofcer will stretch you in ways you could never prepare for. For many of our girls, DOLLS presents itself as their rst real experience at striving for a lofty goal with a group of their peers. It’s easy to reach goals on our own; we can get to the nish line however we want! But add a few extra girls with different personalities and different perspectives to the mix and all the sudden we nd the temperatures aring. There is no denying that the Lord will use this year of ministry to convict us of our sins; many that would go unknown otherwise. And as much as that “heart-work” hurts, the Great Surgeon’s ultimate goal is to conform us more and more into the image of His Son. Enter this year of ministry with a humble heart; ready to grow, hungry to learn, eager to forgive, and zealous to maintain unity.

There’s actually a LOT to do in order to start prepping for you year of ministry. In fact, that’s what this entire magazine is all about! Take some time to go page-by-page through this entire magazine to familiar yourself with everything we need you to do in the coming months to prep for the launch of your ministry year in August. On the very last page of this magazine, you’ll nd a handy checklist detailing every single action item we need you to accomplish in the coming days. Refer to this often to ensure you are staying on top of you prep-work. And as alwys, please let your Chapter Director know if you have any questions! We are here for you!

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND 5 MAIN CONFERENCE? Yes. Without exception. Yes. “I regret attending conference,” said NO GIRL EVER! Seriously, every ofcer who has ever attended 5 Main Conference has left praising God for giving her the opportunity to be there. Not only will you get equipped to be missionaries on your campus, but you are going to have a boat-load of fun doing it!

OFFICER DUES: THE DOLLS DIFFERENCE Over the course of the next 12months, the DOLLS ministry is going to invest significantly in YOU and your leadership. Serving as an officer of DOLLS is unlike any other experience out there available to girls your age. Sure...you can attend leadership camps or read books about discipleship or listen to a million podcasts about theological matters. But all these trainings will fall short because the insight gained through them only exists in the realm of theory. That’s where DOLLS is different. Not only are we going to give you more knowledge than you ever knew you needed, but we are then going to launch you into the real world to apply that knowledge in the realm of time, space, and matter. This experience is going to give you ownership of the material we impart to you at a deeper, even more profound level and allow you to fine-tune your leadership and personal holiness as you work within the world of real-life situations. And on top of that, DOLLS Headquarters is going to be standing beside you as your coaches the entire way. DOLLS Headquarters is staffed by a team of the most knowledgeable, qualified, and faithful leaders in Christian ministry today. The DOLLS ministry has a proven track record of excellence, and that’s all

RAISING SUPPORT The price of being in ministry will cost you in many ways; your time, your talent, and (yes) even your finances. The annual dues for being an officer are $295, which will serve as your personal investment towards the costs required for us to carry out our mission. Likewise, your financial contribution provides as evidence of your commitment to your local chapter.

If money is an issue, consider reaching out to family, friends, and church members who might want to support the good work you will be doing as an officer of DOLLS. People will likely be thrilled to support such an endeavor! On the next page you will find a Sample Support Letter with ideas to help you write your own letters to friends and family. Remember, DOLLS is a recognized 501c(3) nonprofit, so all money donated to our Scholarship Fund is tax deductible!

SUPPORT LETTER TIPS: Handwriting your letter is a good idea. It will seem more personal. Send out your letters well in advance to give people time to pray about their donations. Consider adding your own stamped & self-addressed envelope so they can send back their contribution. Always follow up with a thank you note. Remember that any donation, small or large, is a blessing. Ask for God to bless your efforts before you send out your letters. He may just blow your mind! If support letters scare you, but finances are a real concern, DOLLS will be happy to work out an extended payment plan to better meet your needs.

12

And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?

USE THIS SAMPLE LETTER

AS INSPIRATION Dear (_______________), For the past year I have been involved with a club at my school called Daughters of Our Living Lord & Savior, or DOLLS. It is a student-led, student-initiated Christian club for girls. We meet once a week to worship, learn from the Bible, and fellowship with other Christian girls on our campus. This club has had a tremendous impact on my faith over the last year. I have grown closer to God than ever before and my faith has become my own. I have seen first-hand how this organization can impact the lives of teenage girls and it is for this reason that I have made the decision to accept a leadership position within the club. Next school year I have been selected to serve my campus as my chapter's (officer position). Four others of my peers and I, affectionately titled “the 5 Main,” will work together as missionaries within our school with the goal of being the light of Christ and preaching the Gospel. I am honored to have been offered this position and pray that God will use me to make a Kingdom impact on my campus. The DOLLS Ministry and I understand that this step I am taking is going to be tremendously challenging. In order to equip me to do ministry effectively, I am required to attend a four day training conference in which I will receive a crash-course in theology, learn about Godly leadership, bond with my fellow officers, and much more. The conference is called 5 Main Conference . I am extremely excited about the opportunity to meet other girls from all over North Texas who share my heart for spreading God's Word and learning how to be the best officer for this club that I can be.

OUT INTO THE MISSION FIELD

Sincerely,

GOD BY SENDING YOU

Thank you so much for reading this letter and for your support! Feel free to contact me if you would like more details about Conference or the DOLLS ministry. You can also visit our website at www.DOLLSHeadquarters.com.

OTHERS A CHANCE TO SERVE

Thank you for the consideration of your prayerful and if possible financial support. Enclosed is a pre-addressed envelope along with a donation card. Checks can be made out to “DOLLS” with “Officer Support- my name” in the memo space. All donations are tax deductible, as DOLLS is a registered 501c3 non-profit ministry.

RAISING SUPPORT GIVES

I would love for you to consider supporting me on this endeavor, either financially, through prayer, or both. The cost to be trained and participate as an officer with DOLLS is $295. Although I will need the finances to be able to attend this training, more importantly, I will need continuous prayer throughout the year. Specifically, I ask that you pray for protection over me and the four other officers and wisdom to be able to discern God's Word so that the good news of Christ is communicated effectively to our members.

13

HOW WE COMMUNICATE

One of the most challenging hurdles our 5 Main are faced with throughout the year is leading a ministry that is physically distant from its corporate headquarters. Your Chapter Director at DOLLS Headquarters will try to be involved with your day-to-day operations as often as she is able, but the fact remains that the distance prohibits us from being present on a regular, ongoing basis. That means you will spend most of your time in the trenches alone, separated from the mother ship. How does an organization that has distance between all its moving parts stay unied in spirit despite the proximity? Answer: Communication is KEY!

MARCO POLO

WHATSAPP?

Seeing everyone’s face once at Conference in August is simply never enough, and all of our chapters are so spread out across the metroplex, making it impossible for us all to be together on a regular basis. For that reason, we use an app called Marco Polo to stay visually in-touch! Marco Polo is a free app available on all smart phone devices. This app allows your Chapter Director to release short videos with updates from HQ so you feel connected throughout the year. We especially love this app because it takes the guess-work out of interpreting text messages. Its video nature allows you to see the facial expressions and hear the tone of the sender so there is no ambiguity to the message. Go download the app today!

Texting among groups with more than a few people can be daunting. Inevitably people have different device platforms (Android and iOS), which can often make the text exchange super confusing. That’s where WhatsApp comes in to save the day! WhatsApp is a free, multiplatform messaging app that lets you make video and voice calls, send text messages, and more — all with just a Wi-Fi connection. Your Chapter Director will be adding you to a group with all the 5 Mains in DFW and she’ll also build a group for just her and your 5 Main to communicate. We also love this app because we can use it to send pictures, attach documents, send web links, and much more. As soon as your download the app, we’ll add you to your groups!

PERSONALITY STYLES UNDERSTANDING OUR INSTINCTS Each one of us views the world through a unique set of lenses. People often fall into the trap of mistakenly believing that most other people share the same views, opinions, attitudes, and traits that they do. God has beautifully designed each person to be unique from the next person. So what do we do when we get put together with other Christians who have a different personality than our own? Understanding some of your core personality styles as well as those of the people you are close to is helpful in relationships. By better knowing each other's personality styles, you can better respond to the needs of your loved ones and build stronger partnerships. During the weeks leading up to Conference, we’ll ask each ofcer to take the DOLLS Personality Survey so we can help you discern what your natural tendencies are in life and leadership. Knowing what might work best for your unique style can give you new ideas on how to solve problems, deal with stress, cope with conict, and manage your work habits. Learning this information about yourself will help you understand God’s unique design for you, allowing you to better tap into your personal strengths and then put them to work for His glory! Next, we’ll ask you to watch our Personality Styles Modules where you will be introduced to the four primary personality styles that people typically possess. We will look at the different characteristics, natural tendencies, strengths/weakness, goals, irritations, communication styles, likes/dislikes, etc from each personality style. Lastly, we’ll ask you to complete a quick Elements Review so you can test your understanding of everything you just learned. Don’t worry...this review doesn’t count for a grade--but you’ll quickly learn that in DOLLS we speak the “Elements Language” all the time, so this is your chance to learn the dialect before Conference so you can keep up in conversation!

18

To get started you can access our Personality Training Center through the link provided in the 5 Main Resource Vault

THEOLOGY BINGE In an effort to keep your brain from exploding at 5 Main Conference, we thought we’d give you a little preliminary introduction to the theological re hose you’ll be drinking from as an ofcer of DOLLS. To get started, pick ONE of these three amazing YouTube videos to watch before Conference to prepare your heart and mind. These documentaries are hand-picked to give you a glimpse at the theological depth and vocabulary that you are going to be exposed to through DOLLS. For a quick link to the DOLLS YouTube Channel where you can access each of these of these videos, visit the 5 Main Resource Vault.

American Gospel: Christ Alone This lm examines what Americans understand to be the good news of the Christian faith. It asks, “Does Christ + the American dream = Christianity?” It then tells how the false gospels have distorted the authentic gospel message, and how this theology is being exported abroad. It is, in short, a lm about how the gospel espoused by so many so-called Christians is not good news at all. This gospel is not drawn from the Bible but from the worldly desire for a long, comfortable, and afuent life.

Hell’s Best Kept Secret Why are so many unbelievers turning away from the message of the Gospel? Doesn't the Bible tell us how to bring sinners to true repentance? If so, where have we missed it? The answer may surprise you. Discover when, why, and how the enemy buried an important key needed to unlock the unbeliever's heart. In this video, Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron boldly break away from modern tradition and call for a return to biblical evangelism.

Unpopular The Movie This Bible calls the gospel a "stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." So why is it then that so many people work so hard to make the gospel message palatable for listeners? It's as though Christians think they are delivering a pitch where the desired goal is to get people to "buy into Jesus." This lm examines what biblical evangelism truly calls for.

WATCH READ

20

In your 5 Main Welcome Kit you should have received a book titled This Changes Everything by Jacquelle Crowe. This summer, 5 Main across the Metroplex will be linking arms together to read this timely book in preparation for our year of ministry! We’ll let Jacquelle remind us why we do what we do for our Lord & Savior. Jacquelle wrote this book when she herself was just 18 years old, not long after her own young-in-life conversion. We’ll start our summer off right as we systematically read chapter-by-chapter through this book together. To participate, use this reading plan to work your way through the book with us!

As soon as you download the Marco Polo app, you will be added to the All-Chapter 5 Main group, along with all of the other officers from each of our active chapters, to join our summer-long book club discussion. Together we will cover each chapter of Jacquelle’s book. Each Friday, a different leader from DOLLS Headquarters will take the stage to lead us through a short devotional summarizing the main take-aways from each chapter. BONUS: This will be your chance to meet some of the amazing ladies who lead our ministry before you see them at 5 Main Conference! Following the HQ devo, jump over to your 5 Main’s private Polo group where we’ll post a question for discussion that we’ll then all ponder together as a chapter. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

As a parachurch ministry, DOLLS maintains a very high view of the local church. The local church is God's plan for the building up of the saints to do the work of ministry, feeding believers spiritual truth, and protecting believers from false doctrine and teaching (Ephesians 4:11-12). When the local church is faithful to this work, parachurch endeavors, like DOLLS, become a reality.

ANSWER THE QUESTIONS A good pastor should always have a vested interest in the outside influences that are shaping the way their members think, This is your chance to answer any questions your church may have about the mission and ministry of DOLLS so that he and your church family can heartily approve of the good work you are doing through DOLLS on your public school campus.

SECURE THE SUPPORT Getting your church leaders “in the know “ about your ministry cues them to further encourage you in your gifts and in your faithfulness to your role on the officer team. Your pastor and mentors will know they need to pray for you, to be available to give you input or counsel when you’re struggling or when you are unsure of an theological issue, or to support you by giving you much needed accountability. BE AN ENCOURAGEMENT Use this chance to be an encouragement to your pastor! It is his faithful work of imparting God’s Word into your heart that made you ready for the mission field, so take this chance to thank him and show him his efforts are bearing good fruit.

What to Mention: * Explain the DOLLS mission * Describe your officer position * Explain how you got elected * Tell them about Conference * Give them a rundown of the year * Tell them how they can be praying 23

Summer Devo-Writing Assignment DEFINITION

e

DE VO / d

vo /

noun: a 20 to 30 minute message delivered during a DOLLS All-Member Meeting pertaining to God, His Word, and the Gospel. Short for “devotional.”

Let’s be honest...We all know that once the school year gets started things are going to get crazy! That’s why we’re going to lean on the useful counsel of Ephesians 5:15-16 and we’re going to be wise to “redeem the time” that the Lord has given us in these summer months to get ahead of the game with our devo writing! Don’t worry! We know most of our ofcers have never drafted a devo before! We’ll teach you step-by-step how to prepare a full-lengthed message during our time with you at 5 Main Conference. But for now, use this guide to lay the groundwork for writing your rst devotional. Then plan on bringing your rst draft with you to 5 Main Conference to share with your 5 Main and HQ!

24

1 2 3 4

TITLE YOUR TALK What subject do you want to present to your members? Is there a topic they may not know about yet that you could teach them? Is there a message they need to hear for the encouragement of their souls? Come up with a title for that topic that will summerize the gist of your message.

CONSIDER YOUR GOALS What do you want your members to walk away knowing from this devo? Do you want to invigorate any particular feelings within the hearts of your members? Is there something important you absolutely want your listeners to learn after hearing this devo? Make a list of 2-3 goals you want to accomplish through this message.

PICK YOUR SCRIPTURES What bible passages will you use as a launch pad for your devo? Are there any scriptures that you can use to give authority to your message? Does God’s Word have anything to say on this topic that will help you make your point? Pour through your Bible and nd the verse or verses you will use to bolster this devo.

STUDY FOR YOURSELF For this step, we actually want you to begin your study for this devotional. Grab your Bible and read the passages you picked out above. Ask yourself what the text says, what it means, and how it applies to you and your hearers. After you have drawn your own conclusions, summerize your take-aways in one single sentence.

25

5 6

RESEARCH WHAT OTHERS SAY Now it’s time to see what other people are saying about your topic. Research online or in books to see what other reputable theologians have to say on the subject. Do their ideas match up with your own? Did you learn something insightful that you didn’t know before? As you nd resources that were useful to you, list them below for reference.

SUMMERIZE YOUR THREE POINTS As you were doing your personal study and research, you likely started noticing certain themes or common ideas evolving about your topic. These themes can easily become the three main points of your talk! This phase is where your devo begins to take shape. For the purpose of this draft, we won’t ask you to script out word-for-word what you want to say in your three points. Instead, simply list those points and write a sentence or two to summerize the main message for each point.

Main Point #1: ______________________________________________

Main Point #2: ______________________________________________

Main Point #3: ______________________________________________

26

Congratulations! You have now completed your rst devotional! Sure, we know its just a rst draft...but this is still a tremendous accomplishment! If you felt lost during any part of this process, have no fear! One of the reasons we wanted our ofcers to write their rst devotional before being formally trained is so you will be able to recognize those “pressure points” before coming to 5 Main Conference. Ask yourself what steps in the process were confusing. What steps made you feel insecure? What steps left you feeling ill-equipped? What gaps in understanding made drafting this devotional difcult for you? Now that you recognize those pressure points, when you get formally trained at 5 Main Conference you’ll instinctively clue in with greater intensity on the areas where you felt uncertainty and you will gain an active-listening advantage during your training. Did we just pull an “old-teacher-trick” on you? Yeah, we did!

Some Additional Thoughts:

PUT IN THE TIME Writing a good devotional will usually take between 4-8 hours. The largest bulk of that time will be spent on research. DOLLS does not expect that you already know everything there is to know about the Bible. All we expect is that our officers are committed to doing the work of studying it. Time in study is the bread-and-butter of the life of a bible teacher! Be ecouraged; the more devos you write, the quicker the writing process will become. Remember, writing the devo is as much an act of worship as delivering the message, so worship with all your heart, soul, and mind!

START EARLY

GET FEEDBACK

Keep in mind that it’s always obvious when a teacher has thrown together a devo last minute. You will want to start writing your message at least two weeks before you actually present it. Spend the first week drafting your devo in its entirety. Then week two can be used to have your 5 Main and Legacy Counselor check your devo for accuracy. Giving yourself ample time to go through the process slowly will leave you more confident when presentation day arrives. Your members will sense that you care deeply about your message and they will be more likely to take you seriously.

Don’t be afraid to ask others to review your devo for accuracy. In fact, the bible says we should have a holy fear of teaching something inaccurately (James 3:1). Consider asking your pastor, your parents, your mentor, your Legacy Counselor, or your 5 Main to review your final message to ensure you have rightly handled the Word of God throughout. We recommend drafting your devotional in a GoogleDoc so people can make comments. Be sure to leave them ample time to review because they w i l l l i ke ly o f f e r yo u g re at suggestions that will make your devo even better.

Legacy

Legacy Counselors are college-aged women who have personally served as officers of DOLLS during their high school years. They are women who love this ministry so much that they keep coming back to have an impact on the next generation of leaders; YOU! Each chapter will be assigned a Legacy Counselor who will be your guide during the summer months leading up to you year of ministry. They’ll even attend Conference with your team! Each Legacy comes with year of in-the-trench experience that they want to pass down to you. Your Legacy Counselor is so excited to meet you...and she doesn’t want to have to wait until August for that to happen. Your Legacy Counselor will be reaching out to your 5 Main over the month of June to set up a coffee date! Her goal for this date will be to get to know you and for you to get to know her too! That way when you show up at Conference in August, there’s a familiar face there to greet you. This will also give you a chance to ask any questions you may have going into your year of ministry. Plus, she will give you all the details you need to know about Chapter Wars and help you start your brainstorming. It’ll be an hour and half well worth your time! We know that everyone travels during the summer, but our goal will be to find a date and time that allow as many of the girls from your 5 Main to make it as possible. Your Legacy Counselor will use an online scheduler called Doodle that will allow you and your fellow officers to communicate your availability so we can try to find a time that works for everyone! 28

We’re about to spend the next year in ministry together, so lets kick it off by getting to know each other! Jump online and navigate over to the 5 Main Resource Vault to access a link to our online Who’s Who in DOLLS form where we’ll ask you to answer a bunch of fun questions that will give us a sneak peek into your personality and interests. You’re probably thinking, “Didn’t they get enough info about me on my 13 page 5 Main Application?” Fair point! But don’t worry...this form is way simpler than that. The goal of the Who’s Who Form is to help us love you well throughout the year! Let’s say, for example, your your Chapter Director wants to drop by for a surprise visit during a meeting and she wants to bring you your favorite Sonic drink. Or, what if your fellow 5 Main want to spoil you with your favorite goodies on your birthday, but they want to keep it a surprise. Or maybe your Campus Advisor wants to spoil you and the team one day during an ofcer meeting. This form will give your stalkers...hmmm...we mean “loved ones” hints about your go-to favs so we can shower you with all the love and goodness our hearts desire!

There will be multiple different competitions that your chapter can compete in throughout the conference. A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded for each category and each place has an allotted number of points. Take a look at what’s in store for you at 5 Main Conference!

34

# Engage atheists with compassion and truth. # Explain why we can trust the Bible as an authoritative revelation given to us by God Himself. ...and other cool knowledge that will impress your friends at your next church potluck. Our goal is to provide you with a rock solid theological foundation and to give you a greater appreciation for the soundness of Scripture. You’ll leave with the selfassurance you need to fulfill your role as a spiritual leader in the lives of your members. Leadership Intensive As you will quickly learn, a secondary mission of the DOLLS ministry is to operate as a leadership factory; training and building-up young leaders in the Faith for the work of the Kingdom. During Conference, we will take a look at the Biblical model for Godly leadership. We will study character traits that all great leaders have and learn ways to implement those into our own lives and ministries. You will also be introduced to the fascinating world of “Personality Types.” You and your team will go through an enlightening personality types seminar where you will discover how each player on your 5 Main thinks and how you can best operate as a cohesive team. Every person views the world through a different set of lenses based on their personality type and each of our personalities are needed to build a successful ministry. You’ll learn what strengths you bring to the equation and also what weaknesses you bring that you will need to lean on your fellow teammates to help you overcome.

Finally, we’re going to teach you how to manage the inevitable conflicts that WILL naturally arise throughout your year of ministry. The one thing we all have in common is that we are all sinners, so without fail we will run into issues. As unavoidable as conflict will be, it is absolutely essential that the mature Christian is intent on maintaining the unity of our 5 Main officer teams. We’ll study the guidelines God gives us through His Word to instruct His children in how to biblically manage conflict. Ministry Operations Training Rest assured, we would never release you into your schools to run your student-led organization empty handed. You’ll be taught everything you need to know to make your ministry run more effectively. You’ll learn things like how to research and write devotionals, how to plan events, how to select worship music, how to coordinate outreaches and community service projects, how to manage your membership records and social media platforms, how to recruit for chair positions, and much, much more! Team Time And of course there will be ample time for team building, vision casting, reflection, and planning with your team and Advisor. You’ll also get a chance to sit down with your Legacy Counselor to have your first planning meeting of the year. You’ll even get to create lasting memories during our ice breakers games, Chapter Wars, Faux Prom, free-time on the blob, the Commissioning Ceremony, and much more that we can’t even mention now because it’s a top secret surprise! Be prepared for the most jam-packed four-days of your life!

Q:

Who all will be attending Conference?

The 5 Main from each of our active chapters are required to attend Conference each year, whether they have served as ofcers in the past or not. But trust us...you won’t regret being there! In fact, Conference is so great there’s a slew of other girls that end up showing up just because they love it that much! Conference is attended by the entire HQ team, our Ambassador team, our Legacy Counselors team, and Campus Advisors. Campus Advisors are not required to attend conference, however, they are all warmly welcomed and encouraged to join us. We nd that the majority of advisors are delighted to attend 5 Main Conference along with their ofcers, although many times their teaching obligations prevent them from being able to attend. It serves as a valuable time for them to connect with their 5 Main and to receive an understanding of the inner-workings of our ministry, thus allowing them to better facilitate and advise their chapter.

36

02

Q:

Will the cabins be supervised?

A team of Legacy Counselors will stay with the ofcers in the cabins. Our Legacy Counselors are college-aged adults, all of whom were involved with DOLLS as high-schoolers themselves, with aspirations of pursuing careers in ministry. These young women are spiritually mature, responsible, and reliable models of Godly character. All counselors have interviewed with a DOLLS Headquarters staff member and submitted a thorough background check before earning acceptance into our Legacy Counselor Team.

03

Q:

Who can parents contact in case of an emergency?

Emergency phone calls can only be made to the following #'s: Day time: (972) 736-2273 Evening: (469) 795-1047 Please make sure to identify that you are calling for a DOLLS camper.

5 Main Conference is our biggest and most important event of the year! It is how we, as a ministry, show ourselves faithful before the Lord. DOLLS Headquarters can’t (in good conscience) release young women into ministry without rst equipping them for the task. You probably have a ton of questions about what that equipping will entail. On the following pages, we’ll answer several of our frequently asked questions!

04

Q:

Do I have to stay overnight at the camp?

Yes, for safety and liability reasons, all ofcers are required to stay overnight, in the cabins, on location at Lake Lavon Camp. In addition to safety concerns, DOLLS also feels strongly

that the bonding time granted during the overnight stays will be invaluable to our ofcer teams. The cabins include air conditioning, private restrooms, and private showers. They will be supervised by adults at all times. All adults have received thorough background checks.

05

Q:

Can I arrive an hour late or leave an hour early?

No-way, sister! As you will remember from your 5 Main Application, you committed to attending the ENTIRETY of Conference. For you to miss even one minute of that commitment would disqualify you from service. Please do not ask us to make a special exception for you. We love you, but the answer will be NO every time.

37

and

06

Q:

What do I do if I need to take medications?

If your parents indicate on your Medical Release Waiver that you will require medications during your stay at the camp, a representative from DOLLS will be contacting your parents to discuss those details further. You may be required to submit a Drug Administration Form in addition to the Medical Release Waiver so we can best meet your needs.

38

ALL MEDICATIONS must be given to the Camp Nurse immediately upon arrival. Place medications in a large Ziploc bag labeled with your name and the group name: DOLLS. Prescriptions must be in the original container with the camper’s name and current dosage clearly marked. No medications will be given unless they are in original containers per Texas Department of State Health Services. If you require an asthma inhaler or EpiPen, please bring at least two to camp. One will be kept and closely guarded by the camper, and one will be given to the Camp Nurse. Similar special cases must be discussed with the DOLLS Headquarters prior to your arrival to camp.

07

Q:

What if I have special dietary needs?

We will always do our best to accommodate medically necessary dietary restrictions, such as diabetes, however, we cannot always cater to lifestyle choices, such as vegetarianism. Our meals always feature fresh options, a full salad bar, and quite often include gluten free choices, but we are unable to provide specic meals on an individual basis.

08

Q:

Can I drive myself to camp?

You are more than welcome to drive yourself to and from the camp, but keep in mind that after arrival, you will not be able to use your vehicle to move about the facilities. The greatest source of injuries at summer camps each year are accidents related to vehicles and campers on foot. For this reason, use of a vehicle is prohibited with the exception of 1)vehicles used by drivers approved for health or medical purposes or, 2) DOLLS Headquarters staff.

09

Q:

Will I need to bring extra money?

Upon arrival to camp you will be gifted with your ofcial ofcer t-shirt for the year and all your snacks and meals during camp will be fully provided, but you will, no doubt, want extra spending money to use in the DOLLS Pop-Up Boutique. The store will be selling great DOLLS t-shirts, bags, cups, yard signs, car decals, pens, Christian books, and much more!

39

We do not have many rules, and we'd like not to waste valuable conference time to hound our officers about them. We expect officers will review these expectations with their parents before they come and that officers will commit to their compliance throughout the retreat.

1.Cabin Behavior Officers will be sleeping in cabins according to their grade level (HS or MS). To encourage social distancing, each officer team will be given a private room to themselves. Cabins will be supervised by our adult staff 24/7.

2. Dress Code In an effort to maintain modesty during our time at camp, officers are expected to dress appropriately for a Christ-focused summer camp. For us this means conservative dress with little or no upper thigh, midriff, or chest area exposed for females. Shoes are to be worn at all times for health and safety reasons. Please consider that photos will be taken throughout the conference and you will want to be represented as a woman of integrity. Counselors and conference personnel are permitted to request an officer change into more modest attire.

3. Prohibited Materials Illegal drugs, alcohol, fireworks, weapons, pornography and / or ot he r i l l e gal substances are prohibited at 5 Main Conference. Any officers found with these materials will be sent home at their own expense and removed from their officer

40

position. Report any drug use, alcohol, or other prohibited behavior to conference staff.

4. Curfew Campers are expected to be in their cabins by 11pm and quiet by midnight. Guests are invited to enjoy time with their team within the safety of their dorm. Lights out will happen at midnight each night. Participants are to stay in the cabins until 7 am unless accompanied by an adult.

5. Use of Technology To help officers remain fully present on all God has for them at 5 Main Conference, and for their safety and security, we request that all technology is left at home. The exception to this would be personal cell phones. Cell phones should be silenced at all times and put away during gatherings and training sessions. Any technological devices brought to conference are done so at your own risk. All personal items brought with you to camp will be your responsibility. DOLLS will not be liable for lost or stolen items.

6. Health Dehydration and heat exhaustion could bring an early end to your time at 5 Main Conference. Be sure to drink lots of WATER, avoiding heavily caffeinated

drinks. Energy drinks (such as Red Bull and Monster) are strictly prohibited. Remember to get plenty of sleep before you arrive to camp to ensure your are fully present for all your sessions & training throughout your stay. Don't forget, we will be staying at a typical campground. Please bring sun screen & insect repellent to protect yourself from the elements.

7. Safety Conference is taking place in a camp environment, which may include the potential of wildlife. Therefore, travel in groups of two or more at all times and be sure to always let an adult know where you are going. Stay within the campground boundaries designated to you by DOLLS personnel at all times.

8. Respect During your stay at Lake Lavon Camp you represent Jesus Christ, the D O L L S ministry, and your local DOLLS chapter. Look for ways to show respect, politeness, courtesy, and appreciation to everyone including Lake Lavon staff, D O L L S Headquarters personnel, and your campus advisors. Officers are to respect and obey the leadership of their assigned Legacy Counselor as well as all conference personnel, including Ambassadors and guest speakers.

Meals will be provided for you during 5 Main Conference starting with dinner on Wednesday through lunch on Saturday.

Due to the vast array of food allergies and dietary restrictions common these days, DOLLS will be unable to accommodate any special dietary requests. Guests with such concerns can contact DOLLS' Executive Director, Gale Carter, for more information about options available to meet their needs.

FAUX

What girl doesn’t love to play dress up?! We’re going to get All DOLLed Up...pun totally intended! It’s time to pull out your old prom dress, raid your sister’s closet, hit up the thrift stores, storm your nearest discount retailer, or do what ever it takes to find the perfect dress to wear to this one-of-a-kind dance party celebration with 100+ of your closest sisters in Christ. Get Excited!! Your goal this summer is to find a dress that suits your style and comfort level. Most of our girls will go all-out with long, poofy ball gowns, but others may feel more like themselves in casual cocktail dresses. Feel free to interpret this event however you feel comfortable! Remember, we will be at an outdoor camp so please choose a dress that you could easily laugh-off if you accidentally trip and fall into a puddle of mud. DO NOT spend a ton of money on these dresses! Please consider borrowing a dress or checking out your local thrift shop. DOLLS Headquarters even has dresses that we will bring to conference that can be borrowed! Time will be built into the evening schedule for our “beautification” process, so bring your makeup and hair products!
