Hello, Division 2 Kiwis! I'm very excited to have the very first issue of the Kiwi Chronicle released! Be sure to thank Division News Editor Meiling Zhang for all of her hard work so far! She's going to make amazing newsletters for the rest of the term, so be sure to always thank her for her hard work and dedication to all of us Kiwis! June is finally here! SCHOOL IS ALMOST OUT! I'm proud of all of you for surviving one more year of high school. Whether it was your freshman or senior year, you should be proud of everything you have accomplished in the past few months. Although this school year may be ending along with late nights, studying, homework, and daily classes, service never ends! That's right! As summer approaches, be sure to remain active in Key Club! We will work hard to provide fun and useful events for you all in the coming three months. We should always continue to increase our service hours, funds raised toward our preferred charities, and LEVELS OF FUN WITHIN THE DIVISION! I hope you all find your own ways to become more active in Key Club this summer! I'm looking forward to every single event I see you at. Be sure to attend Officer Training Conference on the 6th and the June DCM on the 27th! This is going to be a really fun month for Kiwis! Stay tuned for more updates! :)

June’s Service Initiative The CNH Service Projects Committee created the Spotlights on Service Program to help educate members about Key Club International and Cali-Nev-Ha’s Service Initiatives to encourage active participation. Each month, a service initiative is assigned is assigned for clubs to focus their service projects on. This month, however, a service initiative was not publicized by the district, so Lieutenant Governor, Calvin Tang, created his own.
The month of June starts the…
Season of Service
Summer signals the end of school, the end of late nights, and the end of hours of homework, but that doesn't mean service ends. The longer days and lack of school should serve as inspiration to do more service.
Instead of spending all day watching TV or playing video games, grab your friends and help out around your community.
Service Project Ideas: 1.Beach Clean Up 2.Beautify Local Parks 3.Relay for Life 4.Bake Sales * This month’s initiative is not from the district, and therefore does not count for the form.
!8
Once you've completed a service event that fits the service initiatives created by the district, fill out there form HERE

ClubClubRepOrts RepOrts This past month, our Key Club officers and members attended events such as UC Berkeley Eggster Easter Egg Hunt, Kiwanis One Day, April DCM, and also OMCA Darling Song Cycle Performance. Our Key Club officers are starting the snack box subscriptions, which was started from an idea by our secretary. This month will be British Invasion Snack Box filled with snacks and candy that represents Britain. The profits made from the snack boxes will go into the Eliminate Project.
This month, our newly elected board officially took over and have worked hard to make this term start with a bang! First, we attended the Eggster Egg Hunt at UC Berkeley, where we helped hide eggs and assist kids in making crafts. We also helped clean up at Memorial Park, making sure it was free of litter. We went to another cleanup the following week at Albany Beach, where we picked up buckets full of trash from the shore.
!12
We took care our of community park, helped at the Dunsmuir Estate's Easter event, passed out flyers for the Cherry Blossom Festival, and sorted the warehouse of Rebuilding Together Oakland.
This past month our new board was successful in holding fun, bonding service events with San Leandro High School Key Club. We attended the Eggster Egg Hunt and Learning Festival on April 4 with D26N and Circle K and helped hold various booth games to promote education amongst children. During spring break, we attended the Market Street Prototyping Festival and Japantown Cherry Blossom Festival. We also participated in Kiwanis One Day and had about 40 attendees to help clean the Oakland Zoo for animals. At the end of the month, we held a couple of other fun events as well! We successfully promoted our baseball tee merchandise and had approximately 60 pre-order sales for $15 each!
!13
We had a wonderful month of service with our Berkeley members! On April 10th, several of us volunteered at Adventure Playground. On April 19th we held a bake sale on 4th St in Berkeley. Finally, on April 27th we attended both a shoreline cleanup at the Berkeley Marina and the April DCM at Peidmont High School.
For April, we transitioned to the new board and began to run the weekly club meetings. On the 2nd, we attended the Jenson Ranch Elementary School Science Fair where the science teacher donated $300 to our club. We also went to Kiwanis One Day and helped out at the Oakland Zoo. Lastly, we hosted a fundraiser at Golden Tee Golfland with 66 attendees and raised a total of $152.
!14
This month we have planed and prepared for our school's Spring Carnival where we plan to sell food. We also have a bake sale planned for the 16th of this month at the restaurant, House of Curry. All the proceeds from this event will go to relief efforts in Nepal.
This month our club took part in many volunteer opportunities both at school and around our community. We celebrated Kiwanis One Day at the zoo in which we collaborated with many other key clubbers to pick out weeds and food for the animals. We also volunteered at our monthly Alameda food bank and helped the citizens get their food and sort out boxes. As a club we also took part in a competition at school in which we were assigned a plot in the school. The purpose was to beautify the place and the best club wins a prize.
!15
This past month, some of our members and officers attended the April DCM. We also held a fundraiser for the Eliminate Project where we sold hot chocolate and donuts in the morning and donated all the profits to the Eliminate Project.
This past month, we completed a campus clean-up event on our campus. We also held a fundraiser at our school’s Food Fair where we sold boba and chicken alfredo. On the 3rd we also helped out at a Spring Picnic with Oakland Trybe and ran six egg hunts that had more than 1500 eggs! Applications for our appointed positions were also recently released.
!16
This past month has been quite the ride! We had a bake sale and sold food during cultural week making a total of $123.00. We also had members attend the April DCM as well as the DWS and collaborated with AYSC to help out with the Wasung Pancake Event.
This past month, our club volunteered at the Dunsmuir Easter Egg Hunt, Oakland Zoo Kiwanis One Day event, and Teens Helping Teens drive at our school. We were pleased that 12 members attended the Dunsmuir Easter Egg hunt, especially since the event was Division wide which allowed new members to meet Key Clubbers from all over Division 2. Additionally, our club has continued bubble tea sales at school to fundraise for PTP. This month, we successfully raised $264.00. Overall, our new board is becoming accustomed to being officers while taking on more responsibility as the term continues.
!17
This past April was the official start of our new board. We went to the San Francisco Market street prototyping festival where we promoted the prototypes. We also went to the Japan Town Cherry Blossom Festival where we helped out with cleaning up the streets and doing whatever needed to be done. Most recently, we had our first food pantry in a couple months at All Saints Episcopal Church; we bagged a lot of food and had a lot of fun.
!18
In the last month we have successfully finished appointing our admin board and have started running the club meetings. Key Clubbers in Skyline's Key Club had the opportunity to attend the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Event from 12-4 and the Prisoners Literature Project from 2-5. There was also a service event today where we went to the library and made Mother's Days cards to give to mothers in the Piedmont Garden Retirement home that went from 12-5.

Kiwanis One Day
Charlotte Chan & Linh Tran, Encinal On April 11th, our division clubs and the Kiwanis teamed up and volunteered at the Oakland Zoo for Kiwanis One Day. We worked together to weed the area of poisonous plants and picked some turnips for the animals. The plants with the yellow flowers were the good plants and the plants with the thorns were not. Luckily, we had gloves and shovels. It turned out pretty successful because we ended up with whole piles of fresh plants for the goats. It was great to see that although, we were from different schools, we could all contribute to the same cause and be united by a single club. Our new Lieutenant Governor was also there to honor the Kiwanis and talk to us about what he has in store for the future.

Johnny Chen, Castro Valley
It’s 5 P.M. after school on a late Friday afternoon. Skies are getting darker, the weather is getting colder, and what better way is there to spend the rest of the night than to relax, grab a golf-club, and shoot some tees with your friends? Well, that’s exactly what Castro Valley Key Club did on April 24th. With 66 attendees including Kiwis, Blue Devils, Aqua Apes, and even a very special guest appearance by the prestigious IP District Governor, Jacqueline Tsang, everyone made new friends, had a fun night, and got the chance to take a night off and just settle down with fellow Key Clubbers at the Golden Tee Golfland Fundraiser. After 4 hours of excitement, everyone went home with a smile on their face. The best thing about the turnout was that we were able to generate $152 for PTP! What a success!
Martin Meraz, Leadership Public During the early-weeks of May, some students from the Key Club at Leadership Hayward hosted a food sale/fundraiser and donated the profits to the Eliminate Project. In the morning, we sold doughnuts, croissants, and hot chocolate. It was really great experience knowing that the profit we were getting would go towards a good cause. In addition, it also was great that we were able to make a positive change in our community. Also, it was just a really cool way to raise money as opposed to the usual of just collecting money.
The Eliminate Project is a project that was started to help end MNT, or Maternal Neonatal Tetanus disease. This awful disease affects both mothers and children, and approximately kills approximately 49,000 babies in year. Overall, it was a great experience and it was good knowing that we contributed in helping end MNT!

Egg Hunt
Tiffany Huynh, Albany
This month, Albany High School Key Club volunteered at the Eggster Egg Hunt, hosted by UC Berkeley! Members helped “hide” eggs around a small field for toddlers to find, simply throwing eggs around the grass to excite them. Later on, they got to hide eggs for the older kids, where they actually got to run around and find strategic spots to hide the eggs. “It was interesting to see children running around and being excited about the egg hunt,” said Jennifer Che, one of the members who helped. Other members also helped at the arts and crafts tables to assist children with various projects, such as making mandalas with colored paper and string. It was great to see how much fun the kids were having and know that we helped to make it happen! We even got to meet the Easter Bunny!

DARLING SONG CYCLE PERFORMANCE
Angela Quach, Alameda
On April 26th of 2015, a few Key clubbers and I, went to an event called Darling Song Cycle Performance, which was located in the Oakland Museum of California. We arrived at approximately 11:30 and left at 3:30. We were brought to a room where there were two teachers who gave us instructions on how to make a Peter Pan hat and also a Captain Hook’s hat. It was pretty cool. This was when we found out that the Darling Song Cycle will be about a different retelling of Peter Pan through the eyes’ of Wendy’s parents. As we mastered making the hats, sticking on feathers, and decorating, we went to the grassy location, where the event will be actually taking place. There was a lady and two guys who were singing the lines, while fellow musicians played music. Many children came to our table and wanted to make hats. They made different varieties of hats, including a kid who drew a parrot and stuck it onto his Captain Hook’s hat. Another kid enjoyed making hats, so much that he made at least four hats and also made a map. As many more children made hats, the event was soon over. We had to clean up and put away our aprons. But overall, the experience of working hands-on and teaching kids to make paper hats was really cool. We all enjoyed volunteering at these events because we get to meet new children and adults alike. It was pretty cool to listen to the story being retold in a new way than the ones we were used to hearing. Overall, this event was really fun and I hope to go again next year. !25

Hey Kiwis! My name is Meiling Zhang, and I will be serving as Division 2’s News Editor for the upcoming term. I am unbelievably excited to see what this term has in store for us! This term has just started, but I already know this will be one of the best years Division 2 has ever seen. Reading all of your club reports and articles has truly shown me how strong this division really is. For the graduating seniors, don't forget to remember us! Key Club has changed my life, and I hope that you’ll keep it close to your hearts. Good luck facing college, but congratulations on finally completing high school. For all the returning or new members, good luck! You still have at least one more year left in your Key Club journey, and together, we will make the best of it. Together, we will bring Division 2 on stage at DCON 2016, and we will win the spirit stick at FRN. I can't wait to see what the next twelve months have in store for us. Thank you for reading this very first issue of the term! With Love, Meiling Zhang Division News Editor 2015-2016
