April’s
Service Spotlight
Kiwanis Foundation Focus: The CNH Service Projects Committee created the Spotlight on Service in order to help educate members about Key Club International and California-Nevada-Hawaii’s service initiatives to encourage active participation. This month’s highlight values the significance of Kiwanis Foundation because they are the backbone to our club activities. Without their guidance and help, outdoor and overnight activities will be much more harder to manage. Any questions or concerns, you are welcomed to email: cnhkc.sp@gmail.com.
Event ideas! When it comes to the foundations of Kiwanis, we can’t ignore our dear Pediatric Trauma Program. You can work together by sewing Trauma Dolls to donate to hospitals. Doctors can then use them to explain how surgical procedures work.
Prepare a presentation and show it off to your Kiwanis family! Kiwanis Takeover is the perfect opportunity to meet your Kiwanis family and to let them know what you and your club has been doing.
An annual event that you do not want to miss out onKiwanis One Day! A day solely dedicated in working together with your Kiwanis family to unite in a day of service together. If possible, you can host a little celebration party to bond more with your Kiwanis!

This month Alameda Key Club had our usual meetings and decided to have a bracelet selling fundraiser. We wanted to share t PTP awareness by selling friendship bracelets to fundraise for PTP. We continued doing service with an event at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, where members and officers helped out with running and facilitating the festival. We then had an event at Crab Cove and at the Oakland Museum of Arts. Helping out of these events were a lot of fun but we decided to continue the fun by meeting with our fellow kiwis at the DCM. One more event that we had was helping at the Food Bank. This month was simple yet fun and we look forward to continuing our work and finding new people to take over as we started to discuss club elections.
Club Reports
This past month has been a great one for Albany Key Club. From Valentine's Day boba sales to park clean ups, members have kept up a great attitude toward volunteering and serving the community throughout the month and even the whole year!

For this month, our club had three opportunities to build service hours. First, we had a club event at the Kaiser SF 5K and Half Marathon. Then, we had members attend both of the DWS's: the Studio Clean Up and the Oakland Zoo Creek Clean Up.

In the month of February, Arroyo had a total of 5 events. We had volunteers model for the Association of Chinese Culture Alliance Fashion Show. Arroyo volunteered at Bay Breeze Half Marathon. We helped out at the Rise Against Hunger Grand Reopening, which was a 2 day event. At the Alta Mira Scholarship Tea, our volunteers helped serve tea and lunch. Lastly, we served at the Rotary Club Crab Feed.

This past month we had 4 service events. We had the Prisoner's Literature Project, the shoreline cleanup at the marina, the Spiral Gardens project, and the DWS Studio One clean-up.
We started off February with a very successful Second Semester Club Day and received over 50 new sign ups! We quickly followed that with the start of election and voting of the new term. Our main events for February was working with Rise Against Hunger and helping them set up and package meals.
14
The end of January we had a great turn out at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. Before the parade we decorated El Cerrito High school theater and made posters for people to hold while marching. At the parade, some were parade monitors and some were ushers. We also had our second fundraiser at the Quickly near our school. Lastly, three officers and two members attended the ice skating social. We met lots of new people from D26S and had lots of fun. In March, we'll be doing some garden work in Richmond and help out at the Berkeley Emergency Prep Fair.
This month, our club accomplished quite a bit of stuff. We had club elections in which many wonderful members participated and ran for positions. As always we attended our monthly Alameda food bank event and MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) event. In addition, we planned a sister club event in which we made dog toys for dogs at the Animal Shelter. At meetings, we planned for our social before spring break and goals for next term!

In February, we participated in a park event called Stay Blessed, Stay Warm that geared toward a free fun day for the youth in the neighborhood. We helped set up equipment, served food, and carried artwork. We're thankful for being a part of that event.

From athletics to festivals to the arts, Oakland Tech Key Club volunteers spent their February supporting a variety of engaging events around the Bay Area. On February 5th, volunteers provided water for runners at the Kaiser Permanente Run. On the 11th and 12th, volunteers helped out with the booths at the Chinese New Year Street Fair in San Francisco. On the 26th, volunteers made their way over to San Francisco again to usher and distribute programs at the SF Chamber Orchestra Concert. Finally, Oakland Tech Key Club hosted a "takeover" of the Berkeley Kiwanis meeting on the 28th, in which they brought baked groups and spoke about club activity.
During January, Piedmont Key Club did two events and one of them is a joint event with Arroyo. Piedmont Key Club volunteers helped out at the Kiwanis Club of San Leandro's crab feed and Friend with Sausal Creek's Plantng Day in Beaconsfield Canyon.

DNE’s Closing Message Hello Kiwis! I’m sorry for the super rushed and incomplete newsletter this month… APRIL FOOLS! Just a little laziness happened in the action of trying to transition into the new term with the freshly elected officers. I can finally and officially congratulate all the new upcoming officers. I’m sure you all will be doing amazing things seeing the burning fighting spirit inside your community soul. I wish the best of luck in your upcoming term! Can you believe that we finally had our final DCM of the term… I certainly can’t. I remember as if it was my first DCM as a news editor and talking about the SOSP and asking newsletter questions. I definitely am no basketball player, but it was super entertaining to watch. The photo booth was really cute too! I assure you the next DCM is going to be EGGsellent. Thank you so very much for reading this month’s newsletter. I can’t really put this into words, but it’s been a while since I started releasing volume 5 of Kiwi Chronicles and it has certainly been a journey. I learned so many new things and met so many new people. I do not regret one bit applying for news editor or staying up in the morning completing this newsletter. Now that my time is nearly over… I look forward in seeing you attend DCON! Let’s celebrate the year’s worth of blood, sweat, and tears together. Once again, thank you all for reading volume 5 of Kiwi Chronicles and remember I will forever be at your service. Tweet tweet. Signing Out, Kathy Yan Division News Editor 2016-2017
