Happy Fall, Kiwis! I hope your first month of school went alright. It can be pretty sad to get back to scheduled classes, homework, and studying, but I can personally say I'm super happy with Division 2 right now! Right off the bat, we're seeing new members from each club that are eager to participate with the rest of the division. It's so exciting meeting new members, whether or not I remember their names. (I'm so sorry) With all the new members, it's great that October is such a busy month for us Kiwis! We have events lined up for you all to serve your communities, meet new Key Club members, and prepare for Fall Rally North! To start, Region Training Conference 2015 is on October 3-4! This is my favorite event of the entire year. If you are attending RTC, be prepared for new lessons in Key Club, new faces, and new exposure that you have never seen before! If you would like an RTC profile picture overlay to show off your love for Key Club, please contact D43 Lt. Governor Hau Nguyen. Our October DCM will be held at RTC, as well. Up next on the calendar is Key 2 College! This annual event, hosted by UC Berkeley Circle K will be held on October 17. At this event, college students in Circle K will be presenting about important topics regarding college life, applications, financial aid, and much more! This event isn't for seniors only; if you would like tips on how to succeed in high school, please do come! This event is a fun way to connect with the UCB Circle K club, all while gaining useful information for your future! We will be having a Spirit Social, not only to prepare our cheers some more before FRN, but to distribute t-shirts and spirit gear! A lot of orders came in, so I'm excited to see you all wear your new Kiwi gear soon! Finally, what you've all been waiting for: FALL RALLY NORTH! FRN will be held on October 24 at Six Flags. I hope you're all ready to celebrate our hard work so far and win that Spirit Stick! I'm super sorry, about the long introduction, but I'm just SO EXCITED FOR OCTOBER! This will most likely be our busiest month yet. However, don't let the amount of events spook you! Continue to be dedicated members, attend events, rack up service hours, but focus on school and tests! I'm glad you're all so inspired and motivated, so I can't wait to see what this month will bring for us. Keep it up, Kiwis! I'll be seeing you soon at RTC!

Taking FLIGHT in Service,

Calvin Tang
 Division 2 Lieutenant Governor

ClubClubRepOrts RepOrts This past month our officers and key club members attended orientations for school in which we recruited new members. Our Key Club combined forces with another community service club in our school called Leo Club. We co-hosted an event called Hunger Games in which we raised up to $83 for PTP. Some of our key club officers along with a few of our members attended an event called Kiwanis Golf Tourney in which all profits raised went to donations to the Eliminate Project.

This month, Albany Key Club attended a variety of events! First was the City Horse Carnival, which was also the DWS, where members helped at different booths and also got to see lots of horses! After that, we attended our school's Package Mailing Day, where we helped pack information sheets to be mailed to all students before orientation day. Our club also hosted a Poster Making Event for our members to help make posters to put around the school. We also attended the Living Legacies project for SAHA and their senior homes, interviewing seniors and writing down their stories to preserve their legacies. Finally, we went to another Kiwanis Park Clean-Up with our Kiwanians and are planning to continue these clean-ups with them every two weeks.

August was hot, but we kept cool by finding events from all around Oakland to participate in. During early August, we volunteered for the 5K Family Fun Run at Lake Merritt by setting up tables and the course, cheering families on, and pack up after it was done. We also volunteered at the annual Laurel Street Fest as we set up and monitored the area. To end our summer correctly, many of us volunteered at the Chinatown Streetfest where we helped The Allstate Foundation booth to package preparedness kits.

During the month of July, Arroyo High School Key Club participated in several community service events. The board members scrambled to attain what was needed to host the August DCM. Funds raised through the Color War Rendezvous DCM were donated to PTP. Also, we have successfully partnered with Nothing Bundt Cakes as an additional fundraiser for PTP.

We haven't done anything yet this summer, but we have planned a bake sale on Fourth Street in Berkeley (July 18th) and a Plastic Free July event at Adventure playground (July 18th as well). We also have scheduled many trips to GLIDE to help pack and distribute sandwiches, all of these trips occurring in the coming months.

As we slowly ease out of summer, we had our first August service event at the Skyline 50k, handing out water, food, and first-aid to runners. From August 10th to August 14th, we set up our booth at the CVHS registration and talked about Key Club to incoming students, receiving over 200 signups in the very end. On the 22nd, we went to Oakland Chinatown to volunteer at their Streetfest event by packaging emergency kits and distributed them to people.

Our past month hasn’t been the most active, but we are working hard to prepare our club to have a successful school year.

For the month of August, our club participated in a few events that involved fundraising for Eliminate and attending Division Wide Service events. In the beginning of the month, our club participated in our monthly food bank. In addition, our members and officers participated and helped out at the Kiwanis Golf Tournament. We also attended meetings.

Send in a photo of your club to Meiling at d02.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com to make sure your club gets to be showcased like it deserves.

For the month of September, Leadership Hayward's Key Club has been mainly focusing on hyping up the club! We have been having small events to hype students into joining the club. We're looking into a strong year for our club!

Do YOU want to show off what your club has been up to the past month? Contact your club’s Editor/Historian and send a summar y along with a photo to Meiling at d02.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com.

In August, Oakland Tech's Key Club has helped out at the registration during the week of August 17th. With over 150 people that signed up on registration days, we really look forward to seeing them become dedicated members of our Key Club!

This month, our club attended two service events and started our bubble tea sales again. Our members participated in the monthly DWS as well as the DCM. At school registration, we set up a booth to recruit new members, and we plan on recruiting more throughout the school year.

We had insane success at our club days and had over a 100 committed new Key Clubbers. At our first freshmen meeting, we had over 50 people attend; there were several people that were not able to fit in the room due to there not being enough space. At our plant nursery at Joaquin Miller park, we revived all old plants, took out old dirt, and replaced it with new, we cleaned the pots and made everything look nice. The lantern festival was a success, it was fun because we were able to watch the lanterns at night.

Send in a photo of your club to Meiling at d02.cnhkc.dne@gmail.com to make sure your club gets to be showcased like it deserves.

For the month of August we had one officer participate in the DWS and since then have been submerged in a planning process as we prepare ourselves for new recruits. At registration, we designed and handed out posters to the freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We also have had a couple of officer meetings since the start of school and decided on ways to draw in more members during club rush by handing out candy with our meeting information on them.

Thank you to Arroyo for hosting!<3

AUGUST DWS

This month, many kiwis attended the Division Wide Service at the Kids Carnival at Golden Gate Fields. Before the carnival opened to the public, we helped blow up bags of colorful balloons, bringing the carnival atmosphere to life. Once it opened, volunteers worked at game tents, face-painting stations, and the food booth. Key Clubber helped out with running a variety of games such as the duck pond and the fishing game. The volunteers were given free food and snacks for the hard work! This event is a monthly treat because it gives the division an opportunity to meet new members from other clubs, and build a stronger community through service. We look forward to next month’s DWS! REGISTR Castro Valley & Oakland

Johnny Chen, Castro Valley

The back to school season is here! For many, this is a time of sadness, panic, and all sorts of mixed feelings. For the veterans of Castro Valley Key Club, however, this was a time for excitement because we would try and r e c r u i t a s m a ny C V H S students as we could, from incoming freshmen to the big, old seniors. Our officers and members arrived early in the morning to help set up our booth each day. In our booth, we had all sorts of Key Club related material. From shirts, to informational posters, even an AWESOME I.D. cut-out, we

were set to attract as many people possible. To make the students and their parents interested in our booth, we’d say, “Hey! Would you like to learn about an amazing worldwide high school organization?” Curious about that vague but cool introduction, they became interested in our club. From there, we gave a brief explanation about Key Club, spewing facts such as “over 270,000 members across the world,” to “great scholarship opportunities” and “an unbelievable way to make life-long friendships from people all over,” they

quickly signed up for more information! From Tuesday the 10th t o F r i d a y t h e 14 t h , w e continued getting numerous signups! Also on the last day, a very special, unexpected visitor came to registration: Gloria Chen, 2010-2011 Division 2 Lieutenant Governor! It was quite amazing that even though it’s been more than 4 years since she left Key Club, she didn’t forget about our extraordinary club. It comes to prove that Key Club affects your life even past high school. At the end of registration, we counted up our signups and we found that we had over 200 people sign up for Key Club! AMAZING!

RATION Tech

Raymond Chu, Oakland Tech

After what seems to be an extended weekend, but is actually summer, it’s time to start school again! That means back to school shopping, back to rushing homework and projects last minute, seeing all of our school best friends and favorite teachers, and, of course, back to having Key Club meetings at school! To start off this school year TWEET-tastically, Oakland Tech’s Key Club helped out at Oakland Tech’s registration and recruited over 150 new members! It was great to see all of the new freshman that is new to Oakland Tech as well as the faces of what is soon to be dedicated Key Club members. For our first Key Club meeting, we played the icebreaker, Assassin, to have fun while being able to get to know new Key Club members. As unsurprising as it sounds, the classroom we were in was absolutely packed with people - I know, as expected, right? But we were still glad to see everyone at the meeting! We are really looking forward to see our Key Club outnumber all other Key Clubs at upcoming DCMs, DWSs, and FRN!

Angela Quach, Alameda

On August 22nd and 23rd, Chinatown had its 28th Annual Streetfest, which was for the celebration of the Year Of the Ram. The streetfest was filled with tons of people along with many interesting booths and live enter t ainment such as martial arts and singing. OACC had a booth along with OMCA where tshirts filled with pictures of the Ram were shown and were being sold for ten dollars each. They also had an activity called Portraits of Oakland: Community Art Project. My friend and I volunteered just when the streetfest had started. We

helped sold some t-shirts with the Ram design and we also went to run errands su ch as getting paint, brushes, etc. We also had a chance to walk past other booths such has Kaiser’s booth and the Oakland Police booth. We got a chance to learn about new things from other booths as we continued vo l u n t e e r i n g . We a l s o helped give directions and help to first timers who came to enjoy the celebration of the Ram.It was a pretty good experience volunteering because it helped improve our communication skills. There

were many people who bought the t-shirts and there were also many children along with adults who participated in Community Art project. This project showed many different sides of the community which includes how it is different yet alike in many ways. There was a donation box in which many generous people donated their money into. Overall, this was a pretty interesting community service event which helped open my eyes to how a community works together and how they have their similarities and differences.

Kiwanis Golf Tournament

As summer comes to an end, Encinal Key Club and Alameda Key Club teamed up to assist the Kiwanis in the Golf Tournament at the Alameda Golf Course on a beautiful Friday morning. One of our Kiwanians, Al, drove us to the Golf Course at 10:30. It was very hot day with 90 degree weather; The coordinators and directors were kind enough to provide us with ice-cold drinks, snacks, and candies. When we arrived, the coordinators and directors greeted us kindly and assigned jobs right away. At around 11:30, many golfers arrived with families and friends to participate in the tournament. Two of our volunteers worked at the front desk to help with registration. Two volunteers help fill up goodie bags that included awesome treats and information brochures. Another member greets the golfers and hands them the goodie bags. One of our key clubbers, Kathy, assisted the coordinators putting up signs and posters all around the course. She even got a chance to ride the golf cart around the park. Our members also helped in running awesome contests and games for the golfers, especially the little kids. One of the many game we coordinated is called " The

Charlotte Chan & Linh Tran, Encinal

Marshmallow Contest". The goal is to hit a marshmallow as far as possible with the golf club. Many kids, along with their adult parents, had a blast trying to best o n e a n ot h e r ' s s c o re s . We recorded the length measurement of how far the marshmallow was hit on a piece of paper .The record was broken many times. By noon, the marshmallow started melting, making it a lot harder to hit. Other contests included "How Many Holes can you Hit?" and " How Far Can You Swing?". All our members and officers had a ton of fun switching off jobs and getting a chance to experience the tournament atmosphere. We took frequent breaks when the actual tournament started to meet ot h e r Key C l u b b e r s f ro m Alameda High School. Some members left after the setup and pre-tournament contests were over. Many stayed to enjoy the full tournament until 5, where there was also an after party. We all felt extremely accomplished participating in this event not only because we got to meet up with new key clubbers, but also the fact that this was a fundraising event. All the proceeds and donations went to Eliminate.

Hey Kiwis! This is THE month everybody! We have so many amazing events to look forward to this month, so I hope all of you can find the time to attend at least one of them. October has it all. The educational events like RTC and Key 2 College are balanced out perfectly by one of the district's largest events of the year: Fall Rally North. It's really unfortunate that RTC is on a SAT test date an FRN is on an ACT test date, but I wish all of you luck on your exams and just remember that we are all rooting for you! October also means we're one month closer to the holidays, so we can finally take a deep breath from the stress that is school. Good luck to the seniors on their college applications over the next few months! Make us proud and get into the school of your dreams<3 I hope you guys enjoyed this issue! Feel free to email me anytime, or approach me at an event to give me your commentary on it. I swear I'm actually really pleasant! I'd love to hear what you guys think and have more contributions from everyone to feature in here. With Love, Meiling Zhang Division News Editor 2015-2016
