Hi Key-uties! It’s already August ??? This summer went by so fast and the school year is coming up even quicker! As California opens up, I’ve heard schools may open for in-person learning! Club rush, in-person meetings, and fall rally are some events that I’m really looking forward to. Personally, I’ve spent a lot of my summer taking care of my puppy, playing tennis, and travelling, but of course, Key Club has been a big part of my summer as well! Whether it’s answering hundreds of questions on Free Rice, running endless miles for Charity Miles, or spending your free time volunteering and fundraising, each and every one of you help to achieve our goals as a division, so give yourself a pat on the back! Remember to strive for your goals as a member and get involved! We’ve accomplished so much in the month of July and it’ll only go up from here. Spend the rest of this summer wisely and I can’t wait to see you all at our next event! This month’s newsletter color scheme is yellow! I hope you like it! Feel free to give me feedback as well! DM me on instagram if you have any tips or suggestions for next month’s newsletter :D

Hello hello, Ballers! I hope this summer has helped you rejuvenate yourself and take a much needed break. I know it has personally helped me! However, school is approaching quickly and that means that a new season of member recruitment is on the horizon!! I recommend that you start to create a plan for member recruitment! Make sure to utilize social media, especially Instagram, to get the word out about your club. Also, start thinking about club fair/club rush! You will need posters to advertise your club, but also think about how you will get your club to stand out from the rest of the clubs at your school. Maybe you could give out candy? Have your officers wear spirit gear and lead cheers? There are many ways to catch a student’s attention! Lastly, don’t forget that personal outreach is always a great method. You can reach out to your friends, family, and teachers and ask them to join & advertise your club! One last topic: BEE sure to think about fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP)! Fall Rally North will arrive before we know it, in which we will celebrate the funds we have raised for PTP so far. Going back to in-person school opens up a whole new world for fundraising, so make sure you take advantage of it!

Until next time, Ballers!

Rimsha Syed - Executive Assistant Hey ballers! I can definitely say that getting more time to spend with my family and friends has been a highlight of my summer. As for my favorite key club moment, I have a feeling it will be the Region 9 Olympics, that are coming up soon! I definitely recommend registering for the August DCM as it will be a before-school-starts last hoorah! Marcus Bautista - Spirit Coordinator Even though summer feels like it's been going pretty fast, one of my favorite memories is doing an escape room with my friends at the veranda. We finished the room with only I think 45 seconds left, and we then later went out for boba and ice cream. Although it was super hot, I had a really fun time. Marielle Manio - Spirit Coordinator

oh god, it’s my birthday month; i’m turning 17 on august 18th!! my first day of school is on my birthday too, what a fun birthday gift of growing up, becoming a senior, and having an existential crisis. i’ve started my new sketchbook too and i’m SUPER hyped to fill it out over the year! :D

Marianne San Pedro - Spirit Coordinator my favorite memories from this summer so far have been the spontaneous friend and family trips, along with taking care of my plant babies and volunteering at in-person events. i'm not really enthusiastic about this new school year coming up because it'll be my last one ;.; although i am excited to finally wear that key club graduation drip LOL Ayna Muftic - Fundraising Coordinator Hey ballers! Over this summer I was able to visit a lot of my family in Arizona that I haven’t seen in almost two years, and being able to see all of my cousins that I hadn’t seen in so long was really fun! That was by far my favorite part of this summer so far. I also really enjoyed all of the key club events that we have had so far and I can’t wait for our next dcm!! Victoria Rose Leon - Tech Editor So… I guess this summer has been slightly livelier than the last. I haven’t done too many exciting things so far, but San Francisco is definitely a highlight. Now I can’t stop imagining what it would be like to visit as many places there as possible during a day trip. Monterey will be less of a bustling scene, but I would absolutely live for the cool weather there. Also, as I’m writing this, I found out that Lemongrab (last issue, the one with a face) was thrown out, and it was sad indeed. 06

Yuna Bi - Executive Assistant Hey hey, ballers! It’s terribly disappointing that the summer is almost over, but im so so grateful for a fantastic summer! One of the key things that has made it so fun was Key Club! My absolute favorite events were volunteering at the Aquarium of the Bay (+ exploring SF afterwards) and Region 9 Olympics. Key Club has let me explore so many new places and make so many new friends! Going into the new school year try to explore as much as you can and take up any great opportunities that come your way <3! Ava Acosta - Executive Assistant

Summer 2021 was definitely one to remember! I was so immersed in the love, memories, laughs, fun, and new friendships. With the pandemic subsiding to some extent, I was able to so much that I haven't been able to in the past year. Although I didn't travel a whole bunch like most people, it was still enjoyable. I especially loved volunteering at the Aquarium + doing our senior send off. Ah, I'm NOT ready for school to start, especially since it's in person now. But I'll keep my head up! It'll be interesting to see all my classmates and fellow key clubbers again :)) Our DLT board is so full of such amazing people who really love + put their all into everything they do. I just know we will do so much together this term!

More special sections just like this one will be in our future newsletters. September’s member section will be “Your Key Club Moment”. Want to be featured? Our current officer board has actually been planning this for a while, and June 6th was the day we carried it all out. Most of the IP officers came, including Nate Yo, who was our 2019-20 president and is now a Kiwanian! They thought that they were just at Silver Oak Park for a hangout between the two boards, when in reality, we were celebrating them. The current officers gave 1-2 IP officers posters and a gift bag. The food was enjoyable, including the BTS Meal, which a few of us brought along to the park. We did a scavenger hunt where we had to do tasks such as celebrating Pride Month in some form, reciting the Key Club cheer, and walking/running a mile for Charity Miles more than we needed to. We took the iconic lineage pictures between the IP and current officers, where there were oftentimes three generations in one picture. Tech editor/tech team/historian had four! Marielle gave an improvised speech thanking the seniors for all their hard work throughout the years, and especially during a pandemic. By the time I left, we were playing Reverse Charades, and I was so happy that this secret plan that was devised since the end of DCON turned out to be successful. - Victoria Rose Leon, American Canyon
