LETTER FROM THE
LTG LT
Hello, Ballers! I hope you had an enjoyable summer despite being stuck in quarantine. With the fact that we are entering the month of August, that also means school is fast approaching! (or at the time of this publication, it has already started for you). As we enter into the new school year, I hope you have been planning with your club board as to how you want to approach this term, being in quarantine and all. One of the most unique things about the Key Club organization is that we are still maintaining our status as an active club on school sites. Despite it all, you have been persevering through it all; continuing to hold board & general meetings, online service events, and even, fundraising. I commend you all for that! For this upcoming school year, I hope you all continue focusing on providing/doing service with your clubs. I understand that a lot of in-person events have been canceled but that’s no excuse for the fact that you can always host virtual service events as well! In terms of fundraising, you will have to get creative! No worries, however, the fundraising coordinators have created a manual included in this publication as well as published guides on the CyberKey. Above all else, thank you for your continued dedication to our division and for everything you do! All of you hold a special place in my heart. As always, if you ever need help with anything, whether it be I am just an email, call, or text away! Rolling in Service! Aimee Han
1. What is March of Dimes?
The mission of the foundation is to improve the health of babies and their mothers by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
2. When was it founded?
March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
3. Why is it is non-profit important?
About half a million babies are born premature or with birth defects in the U.S. each year and prematurity is the #1 killer of babies in the United States. March of Dimes is working to change that by helping more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
Did you know? 1 in 10 US babies born preterm
Premature birth costs American
businesses $12
billion annually
Today, hundreds of new parents will face the reality of life in newborn intensive care More than 4 million babies were born in the United States last year and the March of Dimes helped every one through more than 75 years of research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs
How can I help?
The easiest way you can help out is by downloading Charity Miles! You can simply raise money for March of Dimes by running, walking, or biking. Make sure your preferred charity is set to “March of Dimes before you exercise.

CLUB BOARD FEATURE:
EARLY COLLEGE Nayfa Isbeih, President
The way I’m staying active during quarantine is doing school work, as I’m still in school. As the virtual school year has begun, I really look forward to planning events through Zoom so that my club can participate and get to know each other better. One mascot that I would pick for the Division is a gazelle, because I feel like it represents unity and peace. I also think that if I were to pick a color it would have to be just a grey and black color combo.
Sherry Lauron, Vice President
During quarantine, I’ve been remaining active by searching ways to improve our club for the new year by bouncing new ideas with the club president and other board members. I’ve also been participating in some online volunteering services such as free rice which donates 10 grains of rice for every right answer you get. For this upcoming virtual school year, I’m looking forward to seeing how our club manages to uphold their spirit. For example, how willing the members are to participate in the online activities we have planned and in return, how well our plans work for our members. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to a year where we see everyone join together, despite the current circumstances. If I could choose any mascot for a division, I would choose a bumblebee because bumblebees are known for their work as a community. Key Club mainly stands for community, especially how we can help the community. As a club, each member works together to bring their own contribution to help their community, which is why bumblebees could best represent Key Club. If I could choose a color for a division, I would choose yellow. Not only to correspond with the bee statement as before, but also because yellow represents positivity, enlightenment, and honor. Being a club officer, positivity is one of the character traits that you will see all throughout the various Key Club divisions. It is a common trait amongst Key Club members, which is why I believe that the color yellow best represents Key Club. I do know that this is already the Key Club color/mascot, but I believe that this is what best represents our club. Therefore, it is perfect the way it is.

I am staying active during quarantine by doing Chloe Ting workout videos every other day. I also go out on late night walks alone or with my brothers if the weather is nice! I am looking forward to seeing virtual implementations of various volunteer opportunities. We might not be able to serve at crab feeds, schools, or hospitals (like in previous years), but I am excited to see what new ideas we can come up with! I actually really like the 8-ball design and color scheme that we have going on for district eight! I think it’s very cute.
Hii!! My name is Jala Green. During quarantine I have managed to start my own business and figure out what I want to do with my life. I honestly, with the next school year, only am hopeful to stay in bed while I am in class. It literally is the best of both worlds!! The mascot I would choose would be an elephant.. No specific reason, it’s just my favorite animal. The colors would be yellow and grey, because why not!!

This month, American Canyon continued volunteering with their local Food Pantry, Kiwanis, and Catholic Charities to organize, transport, and distribute food. Some volunteers meet at the food pantry and help to pack bags of nonperishable food into cars. The other volunteers convene at the Boys and Girls club house to help distribute both the nonperishables from the food pantry and Kiwanis as well as donations of fresh produce from Catholic Charities. All volunteers are required to wear masks and gloves throughout the event.

TREE CARE
DAYS
Benicia continued to help with their local tree foundation. Members watered trees in their local community park for 3 hours. The tree foundation has plans to continue volunteering and hosting projects with Benicia Key Club in the future. One project includes planting trees on the Benicia High campus.
RECRUITING
MEMBERS The Benicia board of officers each sent in clips of themselves explaining why they enjoy Key Club. After the clips were collected, they were combined together to form a minute long advertisement to be shown to members of Benicia High, encouraging them to join Key Club.

Chanelle M, Trea How are you staying active during quarantine? I’ve been volunteering at my local food pantry along with our local Kiwanis! We have to take precautions to keep everyone safe during the pandemic, but I’m happy to be able to serve the community during this international health crisis. Favorite service event? My favorite service event is an annual “Season of Giving,” an event held by the food pantry where we give out food to families along with entertainment. I don’t know if we’ll be able to have it this winter yet, but it sure is a fun service opportunity! What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? For Division 8, I would want to change their mascot to an 8-ball Beymax that my friend designed, which was super adorable. I would keep the color, though, since I like the monochrome aesthetic!

FC INTERVIEW:
YUNA AND ARUUSHI Two of our fundraising coordinators, Yuna and Aruushi, were in charge of planning and organizing the virtual escape room fundraiser.
1. Why did you choose to raise money for PTP?
The Pediatric Trauma Program is one of Division 8’s preferred charities! By donating to PTP, we prevent needless deaths and reduce the number of children that are killed or injured because of trauma.
2. What goals do you both share as FCs?
We are focusing on increasing fundraiser participation and getting more members involved, as well as raising funds for PTP and reaching our division goal!
