Youth Opportun What is the YOF? The Youth Opportunities Fund is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The fund also provides academic scholarships for higher education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a portion of your Key Club International dues and through the purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world.

Send in your application! Applications can be submitted via snail mail to the Kiwanis International Office at: Kiwanis International Attn: YOF Application/Nicole Harris 3636 Woodview Trace Indianapolis, IN 46268-3196, USA Or you can fax your application to the Kiwanis International Office at 1-317-879-0204 or email the application to yof@kiwanis.org.

nities Fund (YOF) How to Apply for a YOF Grant Some Basics: YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members.  There is only one funding cycle for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The application must be received by October 15 at 11:59PM EST.  Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. Notification of the Key Club International Board’s decision will be mailed no later than January 1, 2016. 

As of September 2013, applicants must use the new YOF grant application. Previous years' applications will not be accepted. Download the new application on the Key Club International website.  Guidelines for filing the application are also listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies. Need project ideas? Kiwanis One Day

Throughout Kiwanis-One Day, I felt wonderful being able to help out people locally and around the world. To start it all off, our Fai field High School Key Club got to pack food at the Vacaville Store house for people who are struggling financially to provide food for themselves and their families. After that, we went to Round Table for lunch, and we all wrote cards with positive notes for the young patients of UC Davis. Last but not least, our group went to Genen tech in Vacaville to decorate journals for girls that have experience the harmfulness of human trafficking around the world. 20

iwanis Egg Hunt

he Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt of this year was terrific! Getting to be the aster bunny was super fun too! By the time I arrived at the park, after getng all dressed up, all the kids looked so anxious and happy. A lot of kids t to take pictures and hug the Easter bunny, but some seemed really ared to even wave hello (plus I didn’t have the bunny gloves and just aved with my human hands). When the Easter egg started, the kids ran find candy like “The Hunger Games (quoted by Louie, Armijo). Overall e Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt was awesome! The kids were adorable and eing them happy made me happy too, despite the hot morning in the unny suit. Plus I got to hold a baby for a picture, so how great is that?!

DCON RECAP

Briana Esquivias, Rodriguez

DCON was simply amazing. From cheering and screaming like crazy until I actually lost my voice, attending informative/ motivational workshops, to hanging out with the people I love most, DCON once again allowed me to realize how much my life has changed since I joined this club. I have grown so much as a person and met the most incredible people during the last three years. DCON enabled me to realize how truly powerful community service and prepped me and got me super pumped for my term as president!

Members from Rodriguez show their spirit on the first day of DCON! 26

Louie Ignacio, Armijo A STRONG FLAME A candle flickers away in the night And the smoke slowly turns into a smile While the wax slowly exudes down his hands He felt the great warmth of happiness He held a key in his hand that slowly turned into an opportunity And with a great smile upon his face He stood from the corner that imprisoned him And became open to the thought of being desired The thoughts that seemed to roam endlessly with such sadness Gradually turned into thoughts of enhancing such kindness He held the key in his hand one more time Feeling the great warmth that seemed to last forever And presented the key to another bee To share the feeling of just being To share the thoughts of just smiling To share the family that has become a whole While later departing from the family that you've loved Because the flame can last so long until.. Lights go out And another candle is lit once more

SYmphonie Yang, Armijo How do you feel? That is the question that everyone asks. Of course we reply with “I feel good”. But that is up to a certain extent. Because after replying with that cheer time and time again, we don’t feel good anymore. We feel amazing, great, BEEyond belief happiness. Attending the California, Nevada, and Hawaii district convention was truly a breathtaking event. If only time could pause because it’s like nothing we have ever experienced before. Being able to see different faces from different regions that all contain different personalities and so on so forth at one place, all for one event, all because we love this Ohana, couldn’t be any better. It makes one realize that everyone is there together, working together, being together, helping one another. It makes one realize that all the problems that we have around us are suddenly gone. Gone because the emotions that surround us are only good vibes filled with happiness and love. So the next time if someone was to ask, “How do you feel?” always reply with “better than good” because HONEY life is good, right there, right then, and right now.

Jasmine Sivilay, Vanden DCON was an amazing experience this year! The countless amounts of smiles and hugs, the division cheers, and key club selfies were bountiful and everlasting. I went to workshops about graphic standards and BEEing creative. A lesson I learned from this convention was to just go out there and do it; I had been too shy at previous conventions but this time I attended Governor's Ball and got a photo with a graduating LTG. As an older timer DCON attendee, I'd say this was my favorite district convention yet. Definitely looking forward to next year's!

Michaela Quillopo Quillopo, Rodriguez My DCON 2015 experience was incredible. I'm not sure what was more thrilling -- preparing ourselves for the extremely intense key club DCON spirit battles or taking in the feeling of being hundreds of miles away with the greatest people I'd ever met. Either way, I think it's safe to say that the best part about DCON was spending it with the BEST division, the GREATEST home club, and my TRUEST friends. There was so much excitement throughout the whole weekend! I never thought it was possible to be as excited as I was to wake up at 5:30 in the morning to scream 'how good I feel'! I had a few hours of sleep, but I had an endless amount of energy. At DCON, it was impossible to scream 'how good you feel' too many times. At DCON, everything was so alive. The coolest part was sitting in a room filled with 3,000 of the most spirited key clubbers! It was truly amazing to witness thousands of key clubbers coming together to celebrate service, leadership, and family. I’m glad I got to witness some of those people making their last few key club memories. I feel as though DCON has inspired me to see that although the 2014-2015 term has ended, this is not the end but only the beginning of much more to come. There is so much more to be done. DCON was the last major experience of my high school career, and I am so glad to have been a part of this organization. DCON was really awesome. 30

Loan Pham, Armijo, preforming as a singer for the talent portion at general session!

Eliza Cadenas, Novato CNH Key Club District Convention 2015 in Anaheim, California was my last DCON as a high school student. As president of my small home club, bringing along two members and our Kiwanis advisor for their first time was a wonderful experience. Everything from playing road trip games to coming home exhausted from exciting activities have become unforgettable memories to smile about. Spending time with my club, division and CNH Ohana at workshops, sessions and meals made me realize how much Key Club means to me- how strong my passion to serve really is. I'm proud to say that I love and appreciate those I serve and those I have served with. I'm more than happy that DCON 2015 was a success and that I was able to end off high school with a big celebration!

Members of Division 8 first arriving at DCON 2015, ready in their sprit attire!

Sanford Grimmett Grimmett, Rodriguez Last weekend I attended my very first DCON it was a pretty cool. I had a great time with my friends and the food wasn't that bad. I have to say all the meetings were boring, but some were very interesting. Like the tech editor one gave me some great ideas on how to be better and useful. It was a great weekend and I hope next year will be twice as fun. 32

Simran Kaur, Vanden This year was my first time at DCON and I am in awe and amazement of the amount of work being done throughout the Cali Nev Ha district. All these kids my age putting in an enormous amount of time and effort into their local communities is extremely humbling and made my experience totally worth it. I met so many new people and made tons of friends, and it's great to meet people that are as passionate about Key Club as you are. I picked up a bunch of new ideas at workshops that I hope i will able to implement to my club and division. My favorite part of DCON was Governor's Ball, of course, because it's awesome to turn up after a year of continuous accomplishments. I can not wait to be back next year and am excited to see what the new key club term has in store for all of us.

Can’t wait until the next DCON? Start planning now! April 15-17 in Sacramento 2015-2016 Theme: GAURDIANS OF SERVICE
