CLUB BOARD FEATURE AMERICAN CANYON OFFIC

Nicole C, President How are you staying active during quarantine? I have been staying active and doing service during quarantine by doing online services like Charity Mile and Free Rice that allows me to be healthy and learning while giving back and doing service. I’ve been working behind the scene with my officer board and our LGT to find ways to keep our members safe and active during quarantine! Favorite service event? One of my favorite service events that I attend to is Reading Buddies! Reading Buddies is a weekly event where we visit our local elementary, Canyon Oaks, and we read and play with the Kindergartners. Since my Freshman year, I got to meet up, teach and read to so many kids, and every passing year I see them grow up and remember me as a friend. There was a change in the system last year in which the school makes teachers not assign homework to the kids. Their education was reduced, which means that spending an hour reading, playing with them, and making an individual bond every week with these kids is important and makes a significant impact. We make a difference in these kids’ lives! What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? If I could choose anything to be a mascot for a division, I would pick a Hamster! They are adorable and unique pets. I like cute animals, and I didn’t want to choose the typical dog or cats, so I thought hamsters were a good option. They can wear adorable costumes and be in their hamster ball or eating a snack. I think a great color combination that goes alongside the hamster mascot would be peach and white! It matches the animal’s color, it gives off a cheerful mood, and it’s a cute pairing.

Kyla M, VP

How are you staying active during quarantine? American Canyon has been staying active during quarantine by frequent communication not only between officers, but also with our local Kiwanis. Around the beginning of quarantine, we set up a Discord server to connect with our members which has been really fun. Favorite service event? My favorite service event has to be our annual Seasons of Giving that we hold with Kiwanis. We provide fun activities for families in our community and give out toys along with boxes of food for the winter season. Every year, I find myself managing a game booth with my friends, and it’s great to see the community just having fun. We even get to decorate the whole place and despite using the exact same decorations, it turns out a little different every time. Seasons of Giving will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the event that motivated me to get more involved in Key Club back in freshman year. What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? I would choose an eight ball with black, white, and silver because Division 8 is the only division for me!

Colin V, Secretary

Chanelle M, Trea How are you staying active during quarantine? I’ve been volunteering at my local food pantry along with our local Kiwanis! We have to take precautions to keep everyone safe during the pandemic, but I’m happy to be able to serve the community during this international health crisis. Favorite service event? My favorite service event is an annual “Season of Giving,” an event held by the food pantry where we give out food to families along with entertainment. I don’t know if we’ll be able to have it this winter yet, but it sure is a fun service opportunity! What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? For Division 8, I would want to change their mascot to an 8-ball Beymax that my friend designed, which was super adorable. I would keep the color, though, since I like the monochrome aesthetic!

and colors for a division? I would ascot and dark blue and black as the ways in pursuit of sweetness in life e as Key Clubbers pursue our sweetck to the community.

How are you staying active during quarantine? I’ve been staying active in quarantine by going out for walks or using my penny board while maintaining my distance with others! Other ways fitness wise I’ve been staying active is practicing and reviewing the choreo of the song Pyscho by Red Velvet. (Specifically the cover by the 00s line). Meanwhile Key Club wise I’ve been trying to do my best helping members with their knowledge of key club, trying to stay on top of DLT work, and helping whoever I can regarding key club! Favorite service event? My favorite service event was the Reading Buddies events! I enjoyed playing and reading to the kindergarteners and just enjoying their presence being happy. The best part would always be walking into their classroom and seeing them excited to choose their buddy! What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? Lastly I’m indecisive of this but I would’ve chosen a mascot of either Fairies or Mariposas (Butterflies)! And color wise I would’ve chosen Periwinkle/Pink, Pastel Blue/Pastel pink, or Mint Green/Lilac. Also it could be an idea for another division. Hehe.

Gis How are you staying active during quarantine? I have been unable to participate in many of our keyclub events but I have been thinking of potential posters, decor assets, and shirt designs to be used for the upcoming year. Favorite service event? My favorite event is reading buddies. I like helping the kindergarteners to improve their reading abilities and have fun. What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? I think a cream and gold goat division would be fun to design merch for. Definitely not because goats are my favorite animal. They look both dumb and cool with their eyes and horns.

Nile G, Tech Team How are you staying active during quarantine? As far as stay-at-home orders go, it is really a difficult task to be active as possible and fulfill my duties. However, we have successfully created an official Discord server for our home club members to communicate with each other. Throughout the summer, I have been more active on Discord, making sure the server is safekey. Favorite service event? The service event that I enjoy attending is Reading Buddies. This event features the Boys & Girls Club and their afterschool program. Our job is to look over the children while having fun! It is a simple task, yet an enjoyable experience. What is your dream mascot and colors for a division? If I had the opportunity to choose a mascot and color for a new division, I would call it the Silver Wizards!

EA INTERVIEW:

MIAH CHAO

One of our Exective Assisstants, Miah, was in charge of planning and organizing the fun Inter-club event.

1. What was the best part of the Inter-club event?

I got the chance to not only bond with Key Clubbers from my home club, but also bond with Key Clubbers from other schools! I love meeting new people, and am so glad that I got the chance to create new friendships. I think the relaxed vibe of the event made everyone feel comfortable to hop into the conversation, which helped me get to know everyone!

2. Why did you choose the Color A Smile service organization? I love that it encourages creativity while also encouraging service at the same time. The project itself is so simple that all age groups can participate, while still having fun! I also think this was the best time to participate in Color-a-Smile, since during quarantine, people might feel more lonely than ever. Hopefully, using our coloring pages, we can make them smile!

3. What is the best part about being an EA?

I get the chance to connect with other schools while also gaining a different perspective on service. Every club operates in different ways, has different goals, and has different perspectives on what they do! I highly enjoy interacting with everyone and seeing the impact Key Club has on their day-to-day lives. Overall, being an Executive Assistant has given me a much bigger perspective on Key Club as a whole, and has helped me create many new connections, which I will treasure!
