LETTER FROM THE

EDITOR

Hi, Division 8!

My name is Alli McCabe and I am the Division News Editor for the 2020-2021. This is my first newsletter published and I hope everyone finds this very informative. I want to feature as many people as I can in this newsletter and provide information on all division events. If you think there is something important that I need to include or if you have any feedback please contact me. My email is at the end of this newsletter! Some hobbies of mine include photography, graphic design, and cross country. I have also been a part of my school’s yearbook staff which is why I was so eager to apply for this position. This is my first year of Key Club but I have enjoyed every moment of it so far. I am very excited to be a part of the Division Leadership Team!

Hello, Division 8! It’s your Lieutenant Governor, Aimee Han, here! Serving as your EA the last term and seeing the growth and success we accomplished in our IP’s year was truly a rewarding experience. As you Lieutenant Governor, my goals for this term are to focus on fundraising, membership retention, and to charter at least one new club! I would like to continue fundraising for our preferred charities, Pediatric Trauma Program, UNICEF, etc. but hopefully make a donation to the Humane Society of the North Bay (in Vallejo) one day! When I am not doing anything Key Club related, I love to read, watch YouTube, and eat (mainly sushi and pho).

MEET YOUR NEW

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

THANKING

HEROS American Canyon makes cards for healthcare workers during the pandemic.

American Canyon creates a clever way to continue serving their community while practicing social distancing.

2.0

READING BU

The American Canyon officers challenged their members to make cards to send to essential workers. These cards were meant to provide a sense of support, community, and gratitude to essential workers and the risks they are taking in these times of need.

American Canyon club officers asked their members to provide the Canyon Oaks Elementary School kindergarten class with videos of them reading children’s books aloud. They then sent the videos to the Canyon Oaks PTA to distribute to parents. These videos, while echoing the style of typical Reading Buddies, will help the kindergarteners to improve their reading skills.

KEEPING

CLEAN

On Earth Day (April 22nd), students brought along a family member or a close friend to help them with the cleanup. Everyone went around to different cleanup spots including Benicia’s Community Park. Members brought giant plastic bags to collect their trash in along with pairs of gloves. Everyone that participated got to have a few hours out in nature.

SWAG

Vanden High recieved new merchandise including brand new T-shirts.

OFFICER

WEEK During last week of April, Early College highlighted all of their officers by posting a picture of themselves along with a description of each officer The description included something unique about them, and their goals for this upcoming term.

Early College key club celebrates the newly elected offiers for the upcoming term.

A VISIT FROM THE LTG

The Vanden club officers were able to talk about what they wanted to do with the new officer roles given. The new and former LTG, Aimee and Katie Han, allowed everyone to speak up and everyone shared ideas about different goals. Due to the pandemic, the visitation was a Skype call that lasted about 40 minutes. It was a great way for Vanden to prepare for the upcoming term.

“We ordered merchandise in the beginning of March for D8ballers to enjoy. Former officers planned to hand them out later that month and early April, but the pandemic hit. The shirts were going to be given after our 2 week break because of the virus, but now we are in quarantine. We aren’t completely sure what we are to do next but a possibility is giving the shirts when we come back to school next year.”

eLEMONate

MONTH

Kiwanis International and UNICEF have worked together to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, a disease that takes over 30,000 infant and women lives every year. Elimate Project Week was from May 6-10th and everyday was a new challenge. Wednesday was E-lemon-ate day where key club members were challenged to eat part of a lemon and make at least a $1.80 donate to the project. With the help of our fundraising coordinators, Division 8 held a month long raffle where members in our division could donate as much as they had to offer. As of May 23th, our division has donated over $76!
