CHARITY SPOTLIGHT:
YES Campaign
The YES Campaign, or the YES! Initiative, stands for Youth, Education, and Support. The YES! Initiative provides flexible support for the most pressing, ongoing priorities of the Cal-Nev-Ha Children’s Fund.
There are many ways you can give to the YES! Initiative. All donations help run the programs that benefit the children and families that need us the most. Every gift, regardless of the size, transforms children’s lives.
Youth: The YES! Initiative ensures that all District student leaders are able to attend District Board meetings and leadership development training, no matter their family’s financial situation. Education: When you give to the YES! Initiative, you provide scholarships to our Circle K, Key Club, and KIWIN’S members, fulfilling their quest for a higher education and making the dream of college a reality. Support: Your YES! Initiative gift awards grants to Kiwanis clubs for new projects that make a difference in children's lives and their communities.
To help support and donate to the YES! Initiative, donate at cnhfoundation.org! When you gave a donation of $5 in exchange for the DCON 2020 shirts, your proceeds went towards the YES Campaign!

What was the process like of trying to set up a Key Club chapter at your school?
It was honestly a waiting game for our end and Aimee! Leigh and I first had the idea in January, and with the help of Raymond from MIT we got hold of Aimee in July. From there we learned more about how to charter the club and eventually worked it out with our sponsor. During that period, we also learned and gathered up people who also wanted Key Club to happen in our school and slowly made our way to where we are now. It was overall a fun learning experience being taught the ropes and making new friends along the way.
Are you sponsored by a local Kiwanis club? Yes! We are proudly sponsored by the Vallejo Suburban Kiwanis. They are such kind people!

INTERCLUB ROCK NOVEMBER PROJECT
On Sunday, December 6th, during the afternoon, Benicia Key Club hosted an interclub event with American Canyon through Zoom. The service project involved members painting rocks with positive messages and later putting them into their neighborhood for others to see. A total of 15 members attended with many in their Christmas spirit, wearing Santa hats and listening to Christmas music. The event was planned to be from 2 to 4 pm but lasted until 5 pm. It was a very fun experience, and we are looking forward to more interclub events with American Canyon!
BENICIA
TREE PLANTING
On Saturday, December 12th, from 9 am to 12 pm, 6 members from Benicia Key Club along with other volunteers from the Benicia Tree Foundation planted acorns in the Benicia Community Park. It rained the night before but thankfully stopped in the morning however it was still a bit misty. All members were required to sign a waiver and release form, wear face masks, and watch a demonstration on how to plant acorns using tools, gopher nets, and long white tubes. Members had a fun time planting, mulching, and watering acorns at Lake Herman.
BENICIA CAC
BELL RINGING
During the weekend of December 12th and 13th, a few Benicia key club members attended the Benicia CAC Bell Ringing in front of Raley’s at the Southampton Shopping center. They were accompanied by local Kiwanis members and rang a bell when they received donations. On Saturday, the donations surpassed $800 with all the donations staying local, going back to Benicia. Members worked one to three-hour shifts from 11 am to 4 pm.
COLOR A
SMILE
Armijo members gathered on a zoom call and celebrated the holidays with some Christmas music to set the vibe and drinking hot cocoa. We then colored in festive coloring pages from Color a Smile together while bonding. And Color a Smile is volunteering by coloring pages for senior citizens or anybody who needs a smile in general.
HOLIDAY GIFT
SETS MAKING
On Thursday, December 17th, during lunch from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm, three Benicia Key Club members gathered together at our Treasurer, Miah’s house located near the Benicia Community Park. We had gathered there to make the gift sets for the December DWF: Holiday Gift sets! All the supplies were laid out in the backyard, and we wore our masks the whole time to protect ourselves. Two members packaged the gift bags, while the other tied the bags with a ribbon. The gift bags included a mug with hot chocolate, candy canes, chocolates, and popcorn.
LT. GOVERNOR
TRAINING CONFERENCE Two of our Benicia officers attended the Lt. Governor Candidate Training conference on December 12th from 12 PM - 4:30 PM. It was open to all members from Region 9 + 17 that possibly want to become the next Lt. Governor for their division. The event took place over zoom and participants were required to wear business casual attire. To prepare members to become the next Lt. Governors, they had to answer caucus questions, write a prospective speech, and read it out loud.
