Hi Division 12 South! My name is Maryrose Pardo, and I'm from Santa Teresa High School, Class of 2017! This past year has been incredible and definitely life-changing. All my life, I've been the only child, so yes, it is pretty lonely around the house(besides my parents and my dog, Blackberry), but I just remember that Key Club is my family and all these other members are like my brothers and sisters— my Ohana. I also serve as a Kiwanis Liaison for my home club, and I play volleyball all year long whether it's school, club, beach, or conditioning. On my spare time, I love swimming, being around my friends, and trying out new food places! I've changed positively so much this past year thanks to Key Club, and I'm definitely looking forward to serving this amazing division in hopes of making it grow and expand to its fullest within our division, clubs, and members! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you beautiful people
Hi there 12 South! I’m Anna Pham, and I’ll be serving as one of your EA’s for the 2014-2015 term! Without Key Club in my life, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today. I’ve had some pretty crazy, unforgettable memories these past few years--and there are lots more to come! I enjoy laughing, participating in sports, and bonding with my fellow Key Clubbers. Seeing all the energy that Key Clubbers have, and the impact we’ve made to the community really lightens up my day. I am so honored to be part of such a passionate and spirited division! :) It’s going to be a faantabuloous year and I can’t wait to get to know everyone! See you soon, and keep scheming with service!

Hey Super Villains! My name is Andy Chau, proud to be serving as one of your fellow Executive Assistants for Division 12 South and representing Evergreen Valley Key Club as their Vice President. I enjoy sports of basketball and running. Generally on my spare time, I like to write reviews on Yelp for restaurants, cook, bake, and simply jam out my selection of music! All these hobbies and sports come with a motivation and passion like Key Club. The general scheme from D12 South has given me a cherishing time for service, spirit and everything that Key has to offer for me. Key Club has taught me many assets that has shaped who I am today and my life.
Being an artisan at heart, it has always been my goal to be creative in my art, but my favorite thing to do is to not only draw, but to also watch anime, dramas and animated films, browse beautiful art on DeviantArt, get inspired by DIY projects on YouTube and Pinterest, and to invent my own homemade crafts. Despite my usual preference for spending time alone at home, I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, trying out new foods, and playing badminton. Through Key Club, I have discovered what it feels like to make someone else smile through “random acts of kindness”, and that’s why I have the pleasure in writing letters to people, even if I see them every day at school. I appreciate all the new people I meet (although if you love art, coffee, cheesecake, dogs or cats, then we're already friends). I look forward to serving the Supervillains and being a part of this huge and spirited ohana!

MAY DCM Silver Creek’s Key Club participated in loads of fun events last month. One of them was the May DCM, which our school hosted! Attending a DCM has always been great fun, but the real joy comes from planning the event. Although it proved to be tough at times as we prepared Vista Park for the scavenger hunt and the pie-ing fest, the smiles and laughter we saw from the other participants made the event worthwhile. - Dan Truong, Silver Creek
RUNNING OVER CHILDHOOD CANCER Gilroy, California I’m very proud of how much our club raised to donate to the ELIMINATE Project. I look forward to the future projects and fundraisers we will have to continue saving lives with Kiwanis and UNICEF. - Hanh Phan, LOKC President

At Williams Elementary, on May16, Leland’s Key Club provided almost 30 members to the heritage day. With smiles on both high school students and elementary school students’ faces, everyone experienced a sunny afternoon with a variety of cultures. In various booths, from India to Germany to the US, Key Club members welcomed the kids to try out new foods, while answering trivia questions, about well-known cultural traditions. Leland helped out most at the beverages station, where drinks were sold and distributed on a hot day. Later, when ice cream came out, students maintained order with the long line of enthusiastic kids. - Tiana Nguyen (PC)) On June 3rd, I attended Election Night, a Kiwanis- joint event from 7:0010:30pm. I was paired up with a member from Andrew Hill and we were responsible for making sure the cars enter/exit the correct way. The customers were really welcoming; they would open their windows to greet and appreciate our help. This was a fun experience because I was able to meet and bond closer with the Kiwanis, Andrew Hill, and my club. Shoutout to Andrew Hill for collaborating with Evergreen Valley !

On the weekend of June 7th, Gunderson High School Key Club participated in the Willow Glen Relay for life in honor of their Kiwanis advisor Mary Reber, who struggled with Melanoma and sadly passed away in January 2014. Being part of this event was truly life changing and gave our club the chance to honor such an amazing woman who contributed so much of her time to our club. Mr. Fukasawa our other Kiwanis advisor, Vivian Nguyen the past president, and I were able to walk 20 miles and receive special purple bows and many of our other members walked a significant number of miles to support the cause. We also sold our own version of Cream ice cream sandwiches and ribbon leis that represented different cancer awareness colors to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Two of our members were also a part of the Miss Relay pageant and also helped raised money by walking around in their costumes. Not only did this event help us honor such a remarkable person, but it also helped our club grow stronger together, because when you spend 24 hours together, you learn a lot about the people around you. Not only did we bond, but we also raised about $2,000 for the American Cancer Society. -Jasmine Johal, GHS Key Club Vice President
On May 11, 2014, we volunteered at Courageous Kids at Great America. There, we spent time with kids who were fighting cancer, along with their families and other volunteers. Though we didn’t end up making balloon animals like we were supposed to, it was really fun painting the kids’ faces and seeing them smile even if it wasn’t done so well. - Miwa Brioso, Member

Pie an Officer This was my first ever Pie an Officer event. At first I was a little nervous at the thought of getting pied in the face because I had heard stories from other officers about how the smell of whipped cream lingered for hours. It turns out that aside from the smell and the initial shock of whipped cream smacking your face, Pie an Officer was actually really fun! I really enjoyed seeing how many other key club members came out to support the event. -Kayla Torres, Ann Sobrato Key Club Project Coordinator Morgan Hill Mushroom Ann Sobrato volunteered at the annual Relay for Life Morgan Hill Mushroom Mardi Gras event Relay For Life was probably one of from May 23 to May 25. Our club helped my favorite events that I’ve had the with setting up, tearing down, passing out fliers, and selling souvenirs. I started chance to participate in. It carries volunteering at this event my freshman such an amazing energy and year and I have not regretted it since. It's everyone is there to have fun. It felt a lot of fun and there are so many booths great to participate in such an event to look at! I enjoy interacting with the with your peers in the fight against locals in my community, along with those cancer while also having a blast with who travelled very far to enjoy this special your friends in the silly “themed” laps. event. Vibha Dream Mile was a great event to kickstart this summer. I felt pretty bummed about missing the Color Run the day before, but it turned out for the best because I actually enjoyed volunteering at the Vibha Dream Mile. The generous Food Booth leads gave us some spicy Indian food. It was pretty good, although the spice later got to me. Although I was categorized in “Food Booth”, I spent most of the event “cheering” on runners. During the three hours of “cheering” on runners, I got to know Julie Ling better and she’s simply divine. I also got an awesome balloon giraffe who deflated under my arm. Simply put, it was a great experience that couldn’t have been better. Well maybe if there were pineapple rasam.
The Color Run has definitely been my favorite Key event I've been to so far. It was absolutely amazing and super duper fun! I was able to meet some very colorful people and work with some super cool individuals. My job was to work with the "Kind" people and give the runners a sample of their granola bar. I've never heard of the brand before but it felt nice to see the smile on the runners' faces after giving them a snack! It was so cool being able to see so many colors being thrown around and worn! It was definitely amazing to further bond with some of my Key members! Also, I got two free t-shirts and a phone case (which I don't even know what type of phone it's for), which was a great bonus!
