Hello my beautiful ninjas, it’s our first newsletter ‘21-‘22 term!! I’m so excited for everyone to be reading my first newsletter of the term. My name is Catherine Long and currently I’m a junior at Long Beach Polytechnic high school. I have been in Key Club since my freshman year and throughout my journey I have served as a historian for my second term and vice president fmdsfm during my third term. I feel so honored and proud to serve the ninjas as your Division 13 South news editor during my last term in high school. I would like to thank Daniel Le, the past division new editor, for helping me and inspiring me through my key club journey to become a competent and ready division news editor. As we heading to AP season or are already in it, I hope that everyone is getting enough sleep and taking care of yourselves while preparing to crush AP exams and come out with Ws!!! Please do not stress yourself out too much. You guys got this!!! You’ve been working through this all year long, I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
Lastly, be on the lookout for a committee application that will be coming in the near future. If you want to be featured in the newsletter, fill out this form at tinyurl.com/d13ssubmissions2122! Kickin’ for Service,

ARWEN THEA SALDANA |HISTORIAN | MILLIKAN During the last week of April, Mrs. Lin (the Key Club Coordinator for Kiwanis Club of Long Beach) presented a wonderful opportunity to help our community and Millikan Key Club. She had reached out to ask our fellow members to assist an elderly to do some yard work. The family could not support yard work, thus the decision for the club to help out! Club President Ashley Ocampo and some friends: Tommy Halligan, Andrew Salvador, and David Vujicich all came to the garden. For about 2 and a half hours they worked the garden and managed to remove over half of the weeds in the backyard. It was a good day to be outside and lend a hand to our fellow community, all the while of staying safe and practicing some social distancing.

ASHLEY OVIEDO | HISTORIAN | WILSON On April 17, Wilson Key Club had their first in person service event of the term. The beach clean up was located at Seal Beach and took place from 9am to 12pm. Members were required to wear masks and social distance in which they all complied. They were all given gloves, bags, and trash pickers to help them pick up trash around the beach. In this event members were able to improve the coastal and ocean ecosystem by making sure the trash left behind on the beach was not able to kill marine life.

BROWNING | VALLARY ROEUM Good evening! I'm Vallary Roeum, president of Browning Key Club, where we've done beach clean-up, polar splash, volunteer to help with festival decorating in our past. But since the pandemic, we've struggled to recruit and host service events -- even virtually. However, since campus is opening back up and students are returning—we might consider the possibility of recruitment taking place. Also, with places being reopened to the public, we'll look into service events we can host if possible.

Another thing our board is preparing is our officer training which will start shortly after hybrid members are use to their new schedules. When members are adjusted to their new school schedule, we will start planning for service and fundraiser events. Even though it will be another rough year, we will power through it and hope to get well acquainted with the new members of Division 13 south. < 3
MCBRIDE | SIMON ABARQUEZ For the month of March, McBride Key Club gave a farewell to the old board and a warm welcome to the new board for the term. We are giving some time for our new board to settle in and meet each other and we are planning on starting our meetings in April!
