The CNH Key Club District Policy, International Business & Elections Committee is seeking input from our members who have experienced running for a Key Club leadership position. Our intent of collecting this information is to share your thoughtful testimonials with our fellow members to inspire them to take a risk, move outside their comfort zones, and to seek leadership positions. Well-written and thoughtful responses may be showcased in future district newsletters as well as posted on the CyberKey and other district media sources. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hREfvBuEvqBWJKb_c5Xy6IQ3DIyJHfrBx_u3kpb obUY/viewform

The Kiwanis Rose Float District Committee of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International serves the worldwide organization by raising funds and coordinating the building and decorating effort to place the Kiwanis name and message before 400 million people in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses every New Years Day. The collaboration and support of Kiwanians anywhere is appreciated and will be suitable recognized. Many ways to become involved are through the decorating of the float (and others) each December which requires nearly 7,000 volunteers and raises funds for Sponsored Youth scholarships; becoming a sponsor; donations for shirts, pins, plaques and drawing tickets; attendance or sponsorship of the golf tournament; joining the fun and fellowship of the annual Day at the Races; serving as an Ambassador to a District or Division; placing a rider on the float; serving on the Committee.

The Region 7 Training Conference took place at John Burrows High school September 18th in Burbank, CA. High school Key Clubs from all over, including our very own Golden Valley Key Club, a part of division 16, came in support of the speakers and the opportunities to learn more about Key Club. People gave speeches about characteristics of successful citizens, ways to achieve what you want to do, how to become active members, and many more. All the Lieutenant Governors for each division spoke, and even some Kiwanis Members spoke too! There were also fun activities and workshops that involved roles of officers, generic KC history, public speaking, etc. Most of all, we prepared for November’s fall rally by having spirited cheer offs showing our enthusiasm for community involvement.

-JUSTIN TINUCCI, GOLDEN VALLEY

September is the month when we conduct our club rush, Diana was the one who has been active since the day that she signed up for key club or even before that. She was very attentive, she frequently asks questions about volunteer activities and very passionate in helping others. She’s an optimistic person; she helped people whenever they need something. And I saw how persistent and passionate she is in serving the community. Last week, we just had the serving dinner for the needy event, under Hope of the Valley organization. She does everything that she needs to do and help others even when not told to do so. She handles things very well in a positive way, things may get wrong but she’s there to help out. She has the skill that other people may or may not have especially in times of adversities.

Eduardo Santoyo for living and breathing the Key Club core values. Eduardo is Vice President of North Hollywood's Key Club as well as one of Division 16's EAs. He has taken everything he's learned from Key Club and applied it in his daily life from track to school, he is displaying all core values. Always willing to lend a helping hand and always willing to answer the call to service. Eduardo truly deserves officer of the month for his hard work and dedication in helping make Key Club an enjoyable atmosphere for all.

Arleta although being a fairly new club has displayed EXCELLENCE. From their wonderfully dedicated advisor to the amazing officers. Providing a variety of service opportunities for the various members they serve to participating in AIDS Walk on their own to establish a strong foundation for the year, Arleta is becoming stronger and stronger every day.

On September 21, key clubbers volunteered to help with the religious congress. Every year, Alemany hosts a religious congress for religion teachers. Most of the teachers that attend haven’t been to Alemany before so the key clubbers help direct them to the room that their confrence is being held. Alemany key clubbers showed great enthusiasm in walking teachers to their rooms all across campus.

On Thursday, September 12, Key Club members attended Food Truck Night to help with set up and clean up. For the first part, members organized chairs and tables and placed heavy awnings. At night when the event was ending, Key Clubbers went back to undo the awnings and putting back chairs and tables to where they belong.

We have just placed an order for boxes. Boxes for what you say? Boxes for Trick - or - Treat for UNICEF! That's what. UNICEF stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund or United Nations Children's Fund. UNICEF is a United States non - profit organization that helps save the lives of children and women all over the world. UNICEF along with the help of many organizations like Kiwanis International help improve children's lives, providing health care, immunizations, clean water, sanitation, nutrition, education, and emergency relief. They are currently working on the Eliminate Project to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, which ends the lives of thousands of babies and women. Arleta High School’s Key Club has decided to help with this cause by ordering 100 boxes which will be handed out to our members the 22nd of October.

On September 14th, North Hollywood Key Club participated in the Club Rush held during lunch at North Hollywood High School. The Club Rush was open to every club of NHHS and it was used as an opportunity for NHHS Key Clubbers to raise money for AIDS Walk and PTP. Key Clubbers sold lemonade for a $1 each. They prepared 8 gallons of lemonade and had every drop sold! The Club Rush was a success in fundraising for our goals, but it was also successful in advertising Key Club to the study body. Whenever a student came to the booth to purchase a cup of lemonade, they were also informed about Key Club. In the end, the Key Clubber had fun selling and interacting with other students.

On September 24th, Valencia High School, had it’s very first Key Club meet-ing of the year! Thank you to everyone that came. At that meeting we discussed the meaning of Key Club and what we as members do. Many service oppor-tunities were introduced like the Bridgeport Elementary Boo-Bash, AIDS Walk, and Light the Night Walk. If you are interested please contact an officer for more informa-tion. Membership forms and dues are requested to be turned in to an officer ASAP. Thank you for your corporation. I hope to have a BEE-utiful year of service with you all.

Recognized member: Shawn Oh Because: Generally, the first month of school causes key club to slow down as students are adapting to their new work load. And so, the opportunity to attend key club service events also decreases. However, Shawn Oh was highly participative during the month of August. Without being asked, he helped pass out flyers and advertised key club actively in the strong heat of summer during club rush. In addition, he was highly supportive in the August 31 PTP Ice skating fundraiser event. Not only did he attend the event, but he also brought six other friends along with him. Of those six, he paid for four tickets in advance and also offered to give them a ride to the event.
