The Movie DCM
By Jessica Yorn, Skyline Key Club Secretary
It was from 2pm-5pm and we started off by signing in and having a green mark written in marker on our hands to show that we payed the entering fee of four dollars. At approximately 2:30, we started with the attendance. An officer from each club had to state how many officers, members, and advisors there were. We then updated each other on what has happened in each club and what might be expected in the future (events, fundraisers, etc.) We discussed some Division Wide Services until they started the movie at around 3:30. We watched "Spirited Away". When I saw all these people at the DCM, I kind of felt awkward and really intimidated at all the new faces. However, after attendance and discussing services, my friend introduced me to more people. I even met our newly LTG elect Kevin. This made me more accustomed to the environment and felt more at ease. I started to become more comfortable and it made my experience a lot more better. For instance, watching “Spirited away was really fun, because I had the full effect of watching it with other people, like laughing with them. Going to the Movie DCM was great, because I got to meet new people, make friends, get an update on everything, and watch a movie. I had a really great time.

Q & A’s of the Month! Topic : The Cherry Blossom festival with : Lauryn Yee What activities were available to help out with at the festivals? I helped out first with setting up chairs for a stand that seemed to be a presentation or ritual. For most of my time volunteering, I worked at the Sanrio sand art station. There, I assisted with kids and was kept busy by making sure the tables were clean and orderly. What did you see? I saw lots that had to do with Japanese culture including food, clothes, dances, games, and even Japanese dogs! What did you do? Besides volunteering, as mentioned earlier, I got to walk around and explore the festival and the nearby shops. I also ate sushi at a restaurant and it was delicious! I found everything to be very interesting and cool because it was in SF Japantown, which is quite different than Oakland Chinatown or any place that I’ve been before. How did it make you feel when you volunteered at this event? Volunteering here was pretty cool, and time went by faster than I had expected. The high demand at my station required a quick working pace and I didn’t get bored or tired of it, despite the gusty winds. It also felt great when the lady in charge of the station said that we were the best group of volunteers she had had through the years that she had been working there. How is this event different from other events you’ve gone too? This event was different from others I’ve gone to because I got to work with kids and art. There was also more to do than just volunteer at the event.

Do you recommend this event to other club members? Why? Yes, I would certainly recommend this event to others because it is a great experience to learn about and experience a culture different than our own, as well as it being a pretty fun event! It is also great to help the community enjoy a festival by providing services to them.

The Cherry Blossom Festival by Stephen Yorn This year was my last year in high school volunteering for the Cherry Blossom Festival. That day was an unforgettable day because it was my sister’s first time exploring Japan Town during the festival!! It really was an amazing feeling seeing my sister view the world with admiration, because I remember when I was in her shoes. I’m going to miss these dorks when I leave to college, mostly because.. they love me HAHA! I love spending time with them and they know I’m always going to have their backs. The Cherry Blossom Festival was really where my involvement with Key Club really BLOSSOMED and I’m so grateful for the memories and experience it has blessed me with so that I could share with the new generation. I will miss high school and especially unforgettable memories like today. Life is weird, but such an amazing experience that I wouldn’t want to have been born any other way yo! Thanks for an amazing day guys :) Brighter days to come, remember that!
