Context The purpose of the project was to identify a system with multiple steps and improve upon it through observations, analysis, and iteration refinement. We chose to improve Long Beach Bike Share to enhance it’s functionality and increase accessibility.

First Time User Test We took a first time user along with us to go through the steps of renting a bike from the BikeShare.

Jeremy had a great time riding the bike but unlocking it was a chore. He had a variety of issues; from not knowing where the hub was, having to go through the many screens for registration. As well as having issues with the membership system.

Quick Survey To get a general sense of the public opinion on the bikeshare. Overall, most of them liked it, but had not tried it for themselves

“I don’t want to pay for a membership if I only want to use it once”

Boardgames Exercise

12

We created a board game that allowed users to make their own decisions, this allowed for a natural response to the BikeShare systems proposed. Through this exercise we were able to understand the user’s decisions and frustrations when using BikeShare.

How to Play 1. Users were assigned a starting point & end point. 2. User’s had to figure out on their own how to get to their destination through public transportation 3. User’s were questioned about their decisions 4. User’s were questioned about their decisions with the introduction of an alternative system.

Feedback

Insight

Erick Boyer Jeremy

Danby Brianna Wesley

13

Out of a pool of 7 users, we received a variety of insight. Some users where partial to the bike, but only under more leisurely circumstances. As many were concerned about appearance and distance of travel. Other user’s completely rejected riding a bicycle completely, preferring the comfort of a bus or an Uber. Nearly all the users had never used BikeShare as they were unfamiliar with it and saw it as cumbersome in it’s current format.

App & Banner Edits:

14

We updated the banner to fit our proposed BikeShare system and reformatted the app for an improved user experience.

App Improvement The app was improved by developing a more fluid system that has back end registration when the user decides to check out a bike. Rather than the current model that is upfront. We found that this set up gives the user more “breaks” when Ifusing the app for the first time, allowing it to feel less cumbersome. you don’t Open App Store

App & Banner User Test

18

We tested the app and banner over a few users to test it’s efficiency and check for any issues. We also were able to test the functionality of the added features Most users had no issue on the poster. Their approach to the poster also varied; some read through thoroughly, others skimmed, and some ignored it all together

The App was well received. The “Bike” button on the main screen helped users get started quicker and more intuitively. The “help” button was also simple enough to find when the user was asked what their first move would be if they were to find themselves in an accident or with a flat tire in the middle of a ride. Although we did find an issue with accessing the side bar task, as many users were confusing it with another button. To resolve this we moved the mistaken button to the other side.

Final Concept Summary

20

The final concept main function was to improve bike share through integrating it with bus stops, fix the payment system to a more inviting model, and to make the app process simpler.

Final User Test The final user test was done on a completely blind user. From first interaction, he was able to quickly understand how to access the bike with the aid of the large “bike button we incorporated on the main screen. The QR scanner and the incorporation of the pay per minute system also proved to useful and intuitive features.
