It is an Exciting and Historic Time for Nu Beta!

Construction is Now Completed on Our New Home O

ur house has gone from a 16,000 sq. foot structure to a 36,000 sq. foot home. We have increased our sleeping capacity from 44 to 80. The new house hosts a chapter room large enough to fit our 300+ member chapter and a big enough dining room for the current chapter members to eat together! It also includes ample study space and a new gym on the fourth floor.

The “oohs” and “ahhs” from the chapter when they saw the interior design selections were enough to bring a broad smile to your face!

Although they spent a year being displaced in a different house, the

reality of the new renovations made it all worth it. Nu Beta history is in the making of the house renovations and we are so excited to be a part of it. Our legacy will continue to be strong at the University of Alabama.

Now you may be asking yourself, “How are we paying for all of these beautiful renovations?” And the answer is simple. Through the support of our alumnae! So far, we have been able to fundraise 50% of our $1.2 million goal. We still have a ways to go to support this campaign.

We need every sister’s help in order to reach our goal. If you have been waiting for a chance to make your

donation, the time is now! The Chi Omega symphony states, “to be loyal under any and all circumstances to my Fraternity.” We ask that you take the time to show your loyalty to our dear chapter by helping to support the campaign.

We hope that you will be able to join us next April for our Formal House Dedication and visit the new house in person. We cannot wait to share in the memories of this eventful weekend with you! In the meantime, enjoy an update on our chapter and a glimpse inside the new house. We can’t wait to see you soon.

Letter from the President O

n behalf of the Nu Beta chapter of Chi Omega, welcome!

My name is Katie Plott and I currently serve as the President of Chi Omega here at the University of Alabama. Chi Omega is the largest women’s organization in the nation. We share our ritual with over 330,000 initiated sisters all over the country, but it is the friendships we form and memories we make here at the University of Alabama that positively impact each and every member.

At the University of Alabama, Nu Beta continues to remain a flagship

chapter. We consistently have a higher grade point average than the all-sorority women average and always place for top grades.

We have members that are apart of some of the most prestigious programs on campus, including the University Fellows Experience, XXXI, the Blackburn Institute, Capstone Men and Women, Mortar Board, the Anderson Society, and many more. Our philanthropic efforts are seen throughout the community, whether it is raising over $50,000 at our annual fundraiser for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, or putting on multiple holiday parties with our friends over at the Boys and Girls Club of West Alabama.

I often find it difficult to describe to outsiders how Chi Omega’s purposes and values have shaped my experiences as a leader, a member, a student, and a friend.

While our philanthropy events, movie nights, fall formals, and cookouts may be what the public sees, it is the girls in our house who make our chapter so uniquely different. I am relentlessly in awe of our members living out Chi Omega’s symphony in their everyday life, and I am positive that Nu Beta will continue to thrive with these exceptional and genuine women.

Through Chi Omega, I have found a place I can call home, a place where I am constantly loved, and a place where I can truly be my best self. Being a Chi Omega has inspired me to flourish as a woman whether it is in my academics, friendships, or outside endeavors, and I look forward to pursuing our sisterhood beyond graduation, because Chi Omega is more than just four years. It’s for a lifetime.

Recruitment Update T

he University of Alabama’s 2014 Panhellenic Recruitment numbers were at an all-time high this year, with 2,276 women participating in formal recruitment! Nu Beta is proud to have gained 111 new members into our chapter, 42 of which are Chi Omega legacies.

Bid day was an exciting event, marking the end of recruitment, as we welcomed our new pledge class to the house. All 111 new members made the traditional run from Bryant Denny Stadium to the house after receiving their bid cards where they were met by our entire chapter. Each new member was assigned a sophomore sister to be their “Owl Pal.” The Owl Pals were eagerly waiting to greet their new member and welcome them to our home.

Our new courtyard was the PERFECT location to host our Bid Day celebration. We were able to fit the entire chapter, new women, and family members in one place.

The courtyard provided the perfect background to a day of memories. After we all enjoyed Mrs. Lillie’s fried chicken for lunch, the new members were off to a weekend of bonding at a sister’s ranch house. The women had a fun filled weekend of get-to-know-games, movie nights, and, of course, sorority crafts!

Our chapter is ecstatic to have such an amazing new pledge class! We can’t wait to see the great things Nu Beta will achieve in the years to come with the help of these new women.

Introduction of Mrs. Lillie Crawford

rs. Lillie is an incredible person and the fact that she gets to be spotlighted in this newsletter is exactly what she deserves.

She adores Chi Omega and every girl that is in this sorority. I believe this shows since she has worked here for 25 years. Nu Beta would not be the same without Mrs. Lillie. The women living here treat this house like it is their second home and Mrs. Lillie’s kind and warm heart truly makes everyone feel welcome. I feel honored to be able to work with her and the rest of the house staff every single day. Chi Omega is not only a blessing to the women in the sorority, but also the people, like Mrs. Lille, that help make our house so incredible.

1. How long have you been working at the Chi Omega house?

I have worked here for 25 years. I started out as the house keeper on the first floor and eventually was offered the position of head cook. I was so excited because I had always wanted to be the head cook!

2. What are your favorite meals to cook?

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. This is the girls’ favorite meal too.

3. What do you think about the new kitchen?

I love it! It has made cooking for the girls more efficient and everything runs

very smoothly. The girls seems to love it as well.

4. What is your favorite thing about the new kitchen/house renovation?

I love all of the work area! The sinks on both sides of the stoves are so convenient, the walk-in-cooler is awesome, and the big Work-horse oven is my absolute favorite.

5. What is your favorite part about being the head cook?

I love working with the girls every day.

I also like taking charge. Having big events at the house are my favorite because I can really do my job well and get things done the right way!
