MISSION TUNGKULIN
Many of the extrajudicial killings are about the erasure of identity. The victims are boiled down to nothing more than bodies on the street and accusations written on cardboard. Some of them are found with their faces wrapped in duct tape, taking away their loved one’s right to say goodbye with dignity. This is not just about what is legal and what is not. This is about preserving human dignity and belief in the human capacity for change. The filipino people are guilty of “anyone but me mentality and changing that will be what fixes the ills of our society.

LOGO
The decision to make the logo typographic was because most of the imagery associated with the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines are from photojournalists or inspired by crime scene photography and runs the risk of alienating the viewer due to their graphic nature. The text is Bebas Neue because it is elegant but still has a friendlines and a warmth. The ampersand is WC Roughtrad which is a handwritten, distressed font which emphasizes the human element in the campaign and the need for solidarity which also emphasizes the text around it.

design The background of the poster itself is composed of names, picked at random from a list of victims of extrajudicial killings that is maintained by the Philippine Daily Inquirer. They form a texture that makes sure the names are readable but doesn’t distract from the orange headline. The headline is a comment on both the undiscriminatory nature of the killings and the nature of the filipino people to not consider an issue as being relevant to themselves unless it happens to them or someone they know.

BILLBOARD PASKILAN

design
Compared to the other materials in the campaign, the billboard utilizes illustrative/pictorial elements because a billboard needs to be noticed and make an impact more quickly than a poster or a mailer. The hand is a reference to a dead body but is still abstract enough to get the point across without being too graphic. The headline was a statistic from earlier in the month from Rappler but now has since changed.

TO LEAVE THE FAMILIAR BEHIND— Bobby Guev On June 30, 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte took office beginning a deadly and anarchic campaign against drugs. Ever since that day, thousands of bodies have been found on the streets, . Most have been shot by vigilantes riding in tandem on motorbikes, in a evolution of the drive-by shooting style of execution. Usually when they are found, they have a piece of cardboard with an accusation of what they have done scrawled on with a marker. Duterte and his supporters insist that these killings are a long overdue way of lowering the crime rate in the country and that anyone who was truly innocent would not have anything to worry about. However, when most of the people who turn up dead are found to have lived at or below the poverty line, it’s become clear that this is a war with the poor. As citizens of the Philippines, we have a responsibility to our country, not our president and that includes.
