Dominican Academy Annual Report July 1, 2018–June 30, 2019

Letter From Our President My Dear Friends, Since my start at Dominican Academy in 2015, many aspects of the school have changed. I am so thankful for all of you who have helped us grow and flourish. I thought it was fitting to highlight quotes from the students themselves on what makes D.A. so special.

A reflection on our curriculum: β€œStudy is an integral part of our life here at Dominican Academy. But we don’t have to do this alone. Our teachers have time for us after class, the National Honor Society members are available to tutor us after school, and our classmates are also helpful during free time. Though our curriculum is quite full and challenging, we do not have to face this situation alone. This is what enables us to succeed and attend the college of our choice.” β€”Margaret, β€˜22 Regarding the restoration of our beautiful mansion: β€œFrom the Science Lab to the enhanced security, the new Chapel and the enlarged lunchroom, these

improvements have changed the way I, as a student, learn and socialize with my friends. I am beyond grateful for the changes making D.A. a high tech, 21st century place of learning.” β€” Marianne, β€˜20

On the Dominican pillar of service: β€œD.A. has taught me the importance of service. It has allowed me the opportunity to go to multiple volunteer sites where I have been able to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. It has truly helped me understand my role in the community both inside and outside of D.A.” β€”Despina, β€˜21 When speaking about our eight Varsity Athletic teams: β€œI am so grateful for the experiences I have had on the Volleyball team. We have won two championships during my time here! I can truly say that my teammates will be my lifelong friends.” Joanna, β€˜20

is getting involved in the theater program! You can join shows here or at our brother schools. Either way, it is an amazing opportunity and a great way to get involved in student life!”—Grace, β€˜22 As you can see, our community here is thriving. Our students strive to be well-rounded young women who participate in the pillars of prayer, study, community, and just actions. Their continued enrichment could not have happened without the generous support of our parents, alumnae and friends, like you. We don’t take your support for granted and promise to hold your intentions close to our hearts. We look forward to welcoming you back. Gratefully,

Sr. Margaret Ormond, O.P. β€˜60 President

When discussing the performing arts opportunities available: β€œOne of the great things about D.A.

D.A.’s First-Ever Capital Campaign A Success! Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe, but D.A. is even better now than before. Over the past three years, enhancements have been made to the building to create much-needed learning spaces for the students. Our very beautiful (thank you Mr. Friedsam) but overcrowded mansion needed to be updated to accommodate more Advanced Placement courses, additional electives, and an ever-growing club roster. This project included adding two new classrooms, an enlarged cafeteria, new faculty offices, and conference rooms. To cover the cost of the redesign, D.A. conducted its first-ever capital campaign, β€˜Tradition through Transformation – A Campaign for Dominican Academy’s Future.’ The Campaign resulted in unprecedented giving from alumnae, parents and friends. We exceeded our goal raising over $5.6 million. We cannot thank you enough for your amazing generosity. We are happy that D.A. continues to be a choice for smart girls who want a rigorous curriculum in a nurturing environment. We are proud of how hard our students work and how much they enjoy learning, being of service to their communities and growing in their Faith. Thank you for your vital support to the Campaign and for your commitment to helping the education at D.A. continue to thrive. We look forward to seeing you back at D.A. Most Sincerely,

Br. James P. Simon, C.O. Director of Advancement
