Annual Giving Report
Thank you for continuing our legacy.
letter from our president My Dear Friends, It is my great pleasure to present to you the 2015 – 2016 Annual Report for Dominican Academy. For me, an Annual Report is similar to the performance reviews many of us have received over the course of our lifetime. We not only review what has worked well and what has been achieved, but we take time to applaud and reward the efforts of those who helped us to accomplish our goals. In the following pages, we highlight the performance of Dominican Academy and express our deep appreciation for your support. I never cease to marvel at the legacy we have inherited from generations of students, teachers, and friends of Dominican Academy. While the details of daily life at D.A. evolve constantly, there are countless core values, experiences,
and traditions that characterize our community. In the family spirit that pervades D.A., there are certain family traits that characterize both our past and present: We remain committed to our Catholic heritage through prayer on a daily basis. Though not all members of our family are Catholic, we see Christ in each person and work to foster a community of acceptance and kindness. We prepare our students to be intelligent women who are able to think clearly and to play a leadership role in our society. We are a community of learners who strive to uncover the truth of all situations we encounter. And, finally, we take seriously our call to address the needs of the poor and underprivileged in our midst. These family traits empower our students
today to live a life of study, charity, and community as Saint Dominic did in his. We do not take this legacy or your generosity for granted. May the gratitude of the students, faculty, staff and administration, echo in your ears throughout the entire year. Thank you for continuing this legacy through your prayers and donations this past year. May God bless you,
Sr. Margaret Ormond, o.p., ‘60 President

letter from our Director of Advancement Dear Friends, What an exciting time it is to be at D.A.! We are working to strengthen and improve many aspects of the education here and our community is thriving. As one visitor to the school recently said, “D.A. is taking off like a rocket ship!” Here are some highlights from the past year: • Donor support is increasing — We reached over $1 million for the first time in D.A. history!
The traditions of a close knit and nurturing community coupled with high quality academics, remains an integral part of the D.A. experience. We welcome back our alumnae and friends for ongoing events at D.A. Thank you again for your support, we look forward to seeing you in the 2016–2017 academic year. Sincerely,
• Enrollment has increased with 73 students in the freshman grade. • We have partnered with the Frick Museum to provide weekly drawing and sketching classes.
Br. Jim Simon, c.o. Director of Advancement
• Our athletics department now offers seven different junior varsity, varsity and intramural sports including swimming, basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer and track /cross country. The Advancement Office is sincerely grateful to our alumnae, parents, foundations and friends for D.A. exceeding expectations by raising over one million dollars. This investment is already going into advanced placement courses, improved technology, and scholarships. Every gift no matter the amount, is critical for a highquality and affordable Catholic education to young women who are eager to learn and willing to work hard.

Parent Fundraising
D.A. parents donate their gifts of time and talent at various school-sponsored events such as the Open House, Meet the Teachers Night, the annual Christmas Party and the Spring Auction & Benefit. In addition, they raised $25,000 for Dominican Academy through events and collection of dues. The Parents’ Association has committed to become a founding members of the President’s Fund, a pledge of $25,000 over the course of two years. The President’s Fund is an endowed scholarship fund that will award 5 gifts of $5,000 annually. The Parents’ Association will be listed alongside 24 other donors who helped establish this fund.
Student Fundraising
Students give back to Dominican Academy even before they graduate! We feel strongly that our girls should in some way play a role in supporting their school, so each student is responsible for raising a minimum of $300 a year. This year, we hosted our first ever digital fundraiser on Crowdrise.com and the community raised an unprecedented $67,000 to be used for improvements within the school. Additionally, the Student Body donated $2,190 to the Natalie Frankowski, ‘14 Scholarship Award
