LIVING IN NATURE PROJECT 1: Site Location: Tutor: Date:
VILLA DESIGN Huining, Gansu Zhou, Tong 2008
resort villa design
resort villa design
For this design task, I would like to study the relationship between living space and nature environment. When talked about designing a villa located in the place which has gorgeous landscapes, the first idea came to my minde is openning huge windows to get the best view. However, after a second thought, I believe there is a better way to deal with this task. In stead of seating in the living room and enjoy the beatuiful view, I would like to encourage people to get out and pay more time on communicating with natrue environment.

RAMMED EARTH WALL Rammed earth is a technique for building walls using natural raw materials such as earth, chalk, lime or gravel. It is an ancient building method that has seen a revival in recent years as people seek more sustainable building materials and natural building methods. Rammed-earth walls are simple to construct, noncombustible, thermally massive, strong, and durable. They can be labour-intensive to construct without machinery.
Wood is an organic, hygroscopic and anisotropic material. Its thermal, acoustic, electrical, mechanical, aesthetic, working, etc. properties are very suitable to use it is possible to build a comfortable house using only wooden products. Sunmao is a traditional technique for connection of wood structure, without metal conncetion, the wood structure gets less chance to rot.
Advantage: Surrounding area have sufficient clay ,sand and different size of stones which could be the raw material of rammed earth wall.
Advantage: Wood is a renewable material. When trees grown in sustainable forests are cut down, more trees are planted, keeping the trees from extinction.

community center
A community center, in my opinion, is the most important social space for the surrounding residents. I try to build a positive public space which could attract more people to get involvoed in community activities. Hence I try to delate the boundry of the building functional and spatial, but to build more connection between outdoor space and indoor space. So as to offer more chance for dewllings to get involoved in this cneter.

One square surrounded by functional indoor space. The square is comfortable but it is hard for dwellings to get involvoed in.
Distributed indoor space connected by outdoor space. Without boundry wall, dwellings could feel more relax to get in.
The slim coulumns form an flexible space which is relax and comfortable. People could pass through it randomly and hold different scale of activities here.

The landscape that around this building is significant for the experience of dwellings. It not only offers a nice view, but also build a soft boundry to cut off the noise. After dwellings pass through the landscape, they will get a comfortable and pure public space.
For the mlti-function room, I do not like to cut off the connection between nature. The solid boundry wall is necessary for the function considering, so the open roof could off the connection with sky. Nature light is helpful for the exhibition and audience could breathe the fresh air while they are enjoying the concert.

HUMAN RELATIONSHIP IN METROPOLIS PROJECT 3: COMPACT APARTMENT DESIGN
31
Shanghai Li Bing 2011
China’s building boom has been one of the most talked about stories in recent years, a phenomenon we are all quite familiar with. The fast development left a few time for citizens to think about the changes of their lives. Now, more and more people move into the high rise apartment which have a few public space. That leads to the crisis of the relationship of family and neighbours. In this case, I wish to build a high rise apartment involving different scales of public space to encourage people to pay more attention on the relationship between others.

This type of unit is mainly designed for the young singles, such as college students, young adults who just start their carrer. The small unit is able to fulfill this group of people’s needs, because they do not spend much time at home.
This type of unit is mainly designed for the young adults who have been worked for a few years. This group of people already have stable incomes allowing them to get a larger unit. Most of them start to focus on enhancing their living quality.
This type of unit is mainly designed for the young couples who have no children. This group of people would like to pay more attention on their daily life. They may be interested in the units with a living room, dinning space and nice kitchen.
This type of unit is mainly designed for couples who have children. This group of people alreay have a stable family, they need more space and rooms to manage their lives. EVEN TYPICAL PLAN
COMBINATION:C
One yard and several small units build up a small energetic community. The yard could offer a public space for the young people. They could get friends together hold parties, play games.
This combination is involved with a yard and two units. It is better for Friends or relatives to rent these two units. They may prefer a more quiet and quality living environment. Sometimes they could have a nice dinner together in the yard and share their experiences.
This combination is designed for the people who have a larger family. Couples could live together with their children, parents or other relatives. The yard offers a nice space for them to improve their relationship.

This sales center project is going to transform to a public art center after its sales task. The key challenge of this project lies on dealing with the relationship between the small art center and its surrounding huge complex. We decide to apply landcape and different scales of courtyards to filter noise from outside and form a pure art area. In this art center, we have different scales of space, so that it is able to be suitable for assorted activities.

THE TYPOLOGY OF THE LANDSCAPE AND THE TYPOLOGY OF THE CITY (ACADEMIC WORK) Manhattan Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa 2015
The economic speculation led to a homogenous structure of the territory of Manhattan with the gridiron of 1811. However several streets are configured differently due to their relationship with the underlying topography. This project proposes diverse typological relationship between the urban fabric, the building types and the natural topography of New York City aiming to expand multiple boundaries between the city and its environment. The research focuses on the potential of the natural geological topography of the city such as the underlying layers of bedrock, the stability of multiple soil types, and its relationship to the existing urban fabric. The project proposes a zoning for terraced building typologies that redefine the boundaries between street levels and urban fabric, developing topographical blocks and buildings. These proposed zoning is planned to react parametrically by defining building heights in relation to the different relative stability of the ground composition below, integrating public space and private space topographically and topologically. At the same time additional diagonal public connectors develop alternative connectivity by taking advantage of specific moments in that relationship.

NATURE AS ARCHITECTURE/ ARCHITECTURE AS NATURE (ACADEMIC WORK) U.S.A Diana Agrest 2016

Lighting is like a ghost traveling upwards and downwards between the dark tallest cumulus clouds and the ground. Once it takes off its invisible cloak, light breaks down the sky in a stunning effect. As it travels in its unpredictable pattern in extreme brevity in time and with extraordinary power, the sublime quality of this natural phenomenon has driven me to lunge into the inner complexities of the cloud to explore the trace of lighting. It is in these cumulus clouds where electromagnetic forces and gravity are constantly at play set on by the collision between the SE warm air and NW cold front. As water is transformed from vapor into water droplets and then ice particles that attract each other to form graupels. Positive and negative electric chargers are exchanged in a collision generating a magnetic field that ionizing the atmosphere provides the paths for chargers to travel which generate its final product, lighting.
