The Corinth School District plans to rework a Corinth Middle School entrance after a car drove through it early Thursday. In a special meeting of the board of trustees on Friday, the board authorized Superinten-

done to that area,” said Childress. “We have it cleaned up. It’s secured, but we need to move quickly on getting that fixed where we can use that both as an entrance and as an exit.” The wing is a part of the building that does not share historic status with the main part of the

old high school, so the project will not be slowed by the strict regulations that apply to the historic portion. For security reasons, Childress recommends replacing what was a glass and aluminum storefront style with brick and with steel doors like those on the front of the school. Some

additional interior lighting may be needed, and the district will consider whether some type of exterior barrier is needed to prevent vehicles from reaching the building. It is estimated the repairs will cost $25,000 to $50,000. The entrance, now boarded up, faces Buchanan Street.

worth of food to people who receive benefits such as SNAP,” Mid-South Food Bank Marketing Manager Andrew Bell told the Daily Corinthian. “Those food benefits run out in about 21/2 weeks so this food bank

Motorists will soon see construction in the Five Points area as the utility relocation project begins. In a pre-construction conference on Tuesday, a start date of Feb. 13 was set for the relocation of utilities owned by Corinth Gas and Water, Farmington Water Association, AT&T and ACE Power. Buz Plaxico Dozer Service is the contractor. With the contract running 60 days, the work could shift to road construction at mid-April. Motorists may see some periodic traffic disruptions and may want to consider taking alternate routes during the work, according to Cook Coggin Engineers. “Once this stage reaches substantial completion, we will have a pre-construction conference with Parsons Earthworks and set a start date for the roadwork,” said Johnny Crotts of Cook Coggin.

Phase two will reduce the five intersecting points to four with the elimination of Pittman Road (County Road 107) from the intersection. Pittman Road will continue to be accessible from Farmington Road and the Kimberly Clark Parkway. The hill on Kendrick Road west of the intersection will be reduced to improve visibility. The intersection just east of Corinth had a fatality wreck in October 2015 when a car was broadsided as it turned onto Kendrick Road from Farmington Baptist Church Road. Supervisor Lowell Hinton wants citizens to understand that several funding sources are covering the approximately $960,000 project with minimal county funding involved. “The only money the county has been out so far is the money for the rightof-way, and that was about $38,000,” said Hinton. “On a $900,000-plus job, that’s pretty good.”
