Thunderstorms, damaging wind and hail are in the forecast for Wednesday, while below freezing temperatures are excepted later this week. The National Weather Service in Memphis issued a hazardous weather outlook late Tuesday afternoon ahead of approaching severe thunderstorms that could also include a tornado threat. “Severe weather chances will increase throughout the day on Wednesday, as storms become more numerous, organized and intense in advance of an approaching cold front,”

Crossroads Arena staff members are elated following the Mega Monster Mania weekend. The Friday and Saturday event featured monster trucks from the Monster Jam FOX Sports 1 series and attracted the largest crowd the arena has seen in more than three years. “Saturday night was a sell out,” said Crossroads Arena General Manager Tammy Genovese. “Over the twoday event, we had more than 4,700 people here.” The arena last hosted a sold out show in 2014 with

Orchestra to feature Broadway performer

The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is now charging for animal intakes. The decision was made late last week by the shelter’s board of directors who said charging will help cover new labor costs due to the lost of otherwise free inmate labor. “We have had so much trouble getting and keeping inmates lately,” said the shelter’s 70-year-old volunteer director, Charolette Doehner. “It’s hard to run a business when we don’t know if we’re going to have employees every day.” The shelter began charging $15 per animal at intake this week. Proof of Alcorn County residency is also required. “We truly hate to do this, but we have no other answer right now. Due to our lack of inmate labor, funding and the excessive number of animals already at the shelter, we must enact these changes,” said the director. People who wish to bring dogs or cats to the shelter will also need to call ahead and ar-

People of the Crossroads Jan Hurley, Corinth Jan Hurley credits her parents for her strong work ethic. “I learned it all from my parents, Tom and Linda Sharp. They taught me that working hard will always pay off.” The 46-year-old is enjoying a second career of sorts after nearly 20 years in the banking business. The former Southbank vice president of marketing and owner of her own beauty store has been the office administrator at Langley Wealth Management since 2014. Married to Mark for 27 years, the two Corinth natives are the parents of 14-year-old Corinth Middle School student Dalton. “Family is important,” said Hurley. “Spending time together is everything.” The Hurley’s love to travel and are huge history buffs. “It was something my husband first got into, but I soon found myself interested in Corinth and Civil War history just as much,” she added.
Stephenson also starred for two years on Broadway as Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” and made her debut as Christine in “Phantom” with the first national touring company at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. An original cast member of the “Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber in Concert,” she toured the U.S. singing opposite Michael Crawford and made her debut in London’s West End at the Palladium with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
