Sales, tourism tax see modest drop BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Corinth’s sales and tourism taxes saw modest declines in proceeds returned to the city this week. The city’s share of sales tax totaled $617,074.92, slipping 2.2 percent, or about $12,000, from the same month a year ago. The figure
reflects sales activity in local businesses during the month of January. The fiscal year’s total goes to $2.647 million, 0.8 percent less than same point in the prior fiscal year. Collections across the state rose 4 percent for the month compared to a year ago, and eight of a dozen area munici-
palities had increases. The 2 percent tourism tax on restaurant and lodging sales generated $97,762.51, a slight decrease of 1.8 percent from a year earlier. Despite some recent declines, the numbers are considered to remain strong overall as a result of the record growth of the last few
years. Other sales tax results from the region (percentages are rounded): • Booneville — $138,340.64 (+3%) • Burnsville — $12,996.03 (+2%) • Farmington — $2,183.04 (-16%) • Glen — $2,117.47 (+54%)
