Northeast Regional Library Assistant Director Dee Hare is being promoted to director upon the retirement of William McMullin at the end of April.
New library director follows dream BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Dee Hare was playing librarian long before doing the real thing. “When I was little, I used to make little notepaper cards and paper clip them to my books in case any of my friends ever wanted to check one out,” she said. The assistant director for the Northeast Regional Library is now preparing to take on the role of director upon the retirement of William McMullin, who
will leave at the end of April. “I really hope to continue the great service that William has done as director,” she said. “All of our libraries have a good solid foundation because of his leadership, and I hope to continue that.” McMullin is optimistic about leaving the Corinth headquarters and 12 other branches in her hands. “Dee Hare has a complete understanding of the way the Northeast Regional Library works,” he said. “She’s intel-
ligent and inquisitive. As she begins her term as director, I know that she will do her utmost to provide quality library service to the four counties in our region.” The Booneville native and Booneville High School graduate began her library career with a part-time job at the city’s George E. Allen Library, where she moved up to assistant librarian and then served as head librarian for about 12 years. The Please see HARE | 2
RIENZI — An upcoming conference hopes to provide women the weapons they need for warfare — spiritual warfare, that is. The ladies of Hopewell M.B. Church in Rienzi will present their Fourth Annual WOW (Women of Worth) Women’s Conference on Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, with keynote speaker Prophetess Cycelia Matthews of Columbus. “Ms. Matthews has been a keynote here before and she is dynamic,” said WOW Ministry Chairperson Darlene Williams. The theme this year is “No weapon formed against me shall prosper” and Williams pointed out that the foundation of the conference this year will be built on the “whole armor of God.” “We are up against spiritual warfare in our children, our communities and our nation as a whole. The battle is against Christians,” said Williams. “I feel as women we need to know how to fight this battle.” The conference begins on Saturday, April 22, at 8 a.m. with registration and brunch. There will be three workshop speakers and lunch at 11 a.m. Then there will be a choir workshop at noon on Saturday. “The purpose is to organize

Corinth High School’s latest musical has students singing classics under the sea. More than 40 students are set to perform “The Little Mermaid: The Musical” next week inside the school’s auditorium. “This one is special,” said CHS drama teacher Kelly Treadway, who will director her eighth show with the Disney classic. “It’s got something in there for everyone. It’s cer-
Kelly Treadway Corinth High School Drama Teacher tainly not just a princess show. It’s lots of music and singing, some amazing comedy and then, of course, it’s also a love story.” Set for April 7-10, Treadway said the show dates were very
hard to nail down. “These are the only four days in our school calendar of 180plus days where there were no other conflicts,” she said. “It was still tough on the kids, but doesn’t hurt the quality.”
On April 7 at 7 p.m., the class will offer sponsors a unique experience, said Treadway. A $25 sponsor ticket will allow entrance into the “Under the Sea Event” where kids can meet and take photos with characters from the musical. The sponsor package also includes recognition in the Playbill and one ticket to the show. Other show dates include April 8 and 10 at 7 p.m. and Please see MERMAID | 2
