While most all bills await the governor’s approval to be signed into law, legislators are proud of their accomplishments during the 132nd session.

One can have fun and help charity at the same time as the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth hosts the Glow in the the Dark Golf Tournament to benefit their many children’s charities. Leading historians of the Battle of Shiloh and the Civil War in Northeast Mississippi will gather in Corinth next month for the Shiloh Civil War conference. Hosted by Chambersburg Civil War Seminars & Tours, the organization will also raise funds for battlefield preservation during the event, with contributions going to organizations including the Friends of the Siege and Battle of Corinth and Friends of Shiloh. Set for May 17-21 at the Hampton Inn in Corinth, the conference will focus on the Battle of Shiloh with talks and tours of battle sites at Shiloh National Military Park. Author and historian Timothy B. Tyson said the dinner is a barbecue dinner provided by Johnson Dozier Service. The shotgun start to the tournament will be at 8 p.m. The idea, Tyson said, is to have fun and raise money to help the children of Alcorn County. “It’s really a fun tournament,” said Tyson. “We’re hoping for a good turnout and for everyone to have a good time.” With the added entertainment and challenge of having the tournament at night, players will have glow necklaces available. Native Corinthian Donna Briggs has a unique job as manager of the CorinthAlcorn County Airport and said she loves her job for that reason. “It’s the best job I have ever had. There’s never a dull moment,” said Briggs. “There’s something different every day and I work with a really great team. I also work under the best board in the county.” Briggs is in her 11th year with the airport. Besides her job, Briggs has two daughters and loves chasing her two-year-old granddaughter around. She has a grandson on the way. Briggs is also planning her Orange Beach wedding in May to Chuck Sowers, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio. In rare moments of spare time, she also loves gardening and cooking. The selfproclaimed “homebody” loves to try new recipes.
