Rob Gibson is a lineman. For 17 years he has been at the forefront of Alcorn County’s worst power outages leaving his family at home in times of disaster when others in the community needed him most ... although they might not have realized it. “We give people in this community service in the rain, sleet or snow. If the power is out, we’re on the job no matter what,” said Gibson. “It’s a 24/7 job, never-ending ... but, I love it. I love serving the people.” Gibson is one of 14 ACE Power electrical lineworkers who work on electrically energized power lines performing repairs and upgrades to the power cooperative’s more than 18,000 members. ACE lineman, as well as the more than 115,00 lineman across the county, are being honored today for National Lineman Appreciation Day. “I am extremely proud our national leaders have recognized the dedication and sacrifice our lineman show every day,” said ACE CEO Eddie Howard. “Our lineman do not hesitate to leave their homes and families and risk their lives in the times of storms or other disasters to restore electric service to our members.” According to ACE COO Jason Grisham, the day is about bringing awareness to the line of work. “At one time electricity

Who knew saving lives could be so much fun? The organizers of the 2017 Alcorn County Bluegrass Festival know all about saving lives and having fun as all proceeds from the festival goes toward the Alcorn County Relay for Life, which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The money earned by the event goes to help save lives in many ways — one of the biggest is it helps fund research fighting the battle against cancer. The 2017 Alcorn County Bluegrass Festival will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion Building on Tate Street in Corinth. This year the line up is impressive. “This year we have seven of the best bluegrass bands in the area,” said event organizer Lanell Coln, who also serves as Alcorn County Relay for Life event chair.

Now it’s a necessity,” he said. “What lineman do for us is often taken for granted, but when the power goes out you need a lineman whether you know it or not.” A day in the life of a ACE lineman often begins with Grisham, who oversees engineering and operations at the power company. “My engineering department and I design the jobs. MRHC presents new vehicle service fleet For the Daily Corinthian

A new fleet of vehicles will soon be hitting the roads in Corinth and the surrounding region. Magnolia Regional Health Center is introducing a new vehicle service fleet with 17 new, locally leased Nissan Altima vehicles provided by Enterprise Fleet Management. Enterprise Fleet Management, a full-service fleet management business, is providing these vehicles for use by the Magnolia Home Health & Hospice and Provider Relations’ staff members as they are mak-

ing their visits throughout the community and region. “The implementation of the fleet vehicles will allow us to see significant cost savings each year,” said Ronny Humes, CEO at MRHC. “We also see it as a way to continue to invest in our people. By having a company vehicle, we feel like there will be less stress on them and their personal vehicles, so they can focus on their jobs and continuing to put the patients first.” Each new Nissan Altima vehicle offers better fuel economy Please see FLEET | 2
