CACVB sets funding guidelines BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
The Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau unveiled updated guidelines when requesting funds from the tourism board.
The goal of the grant program is to help fund the promotion of special events and festivals which attract visitors to Corinth restaurants and to overnight stays in hotels. Funding requests will now be
done only one time a year. Applications for funding should be sent in the form of a letter to the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Letters must be postmarked by July 14, 2016. “Those who have received
grants the last three years will be sent a letter notifying them of the change,” said tourism director Christy Burns. “New events will be seen as they come,” added board president Russell Smith.
Burns said events or festivals requesting funds for a first time will be invited to a board meeting and explained the process. Events must be held between Please see TOURISM | 2
‘Nightfall With Edgar Allan Poe’ Corinth police:
Man’s body found BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Corinth police are investigating the death of a man who was found under a bridge on West Shiloh Road. An unidentified white male subject was found beneath the railroad overpass near the Corinth Street Department and east of the Fulton Drive intersection about 1 a.m. Wednesday. Capt. Dell Green said a subject who was walking in the
area came upon the man, who appeared to have been there for several days, and reported the body. “No foul play is suspected at this time,” said Green. “We suspect that he fell off the bridge. What led to those events is under investigation.” An autopsy will be performed to identify the subject. The deceased man appeared to possibly be in his 50s, Green said.

CT-A’s cast of nine presents stage adaptation BY KIMBERLY SHELTON kshelton@dailycorinthian.com
Plucked from the hauntingly beautiful mind of one of America’s most noted poets, “Nightfall With Edgar Allan Poe” will bring to life four of the author’s spine-tingling works.
Adapted for the stage by playwright Eric Coble and presented by a Corinth Theatre-Arts cast of nine, the play will relate the tales of “The Pit and Pendulum,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Tell-Tale Heart” and Poe’s famous poem “The
Raven.” “The script is amazingly written and is an amalgam of some of Poe’s greatest writings,” said CT-A actor Philip Henson, who will assume the role of the trouPlease see NIGHTFALL | 2
BY STEVE BEAVERS Things are about to get cookin’ at American Legion Post 6. The American Legion Auxiliary is making lunch and supper plans easy for families on Friday. Auxiliary members are having a spaghetti lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be split between the local auxiliary and future department leadership and training. Tina Hurst is the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Department and will become the state president in a couple of years. Hurst must raise $15,000-$20,000 when she becomes president of the group.
Corinth is moving toward the sale of the Fulton Drive property housing AbilityWorks. The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday voted to retain Jumper Realty to list the property for a period of six months. City leaders have expressed concern about the number of properties owned by the city and the costs associated with
them. “The City of Corinth needs to get out of the real estate business,” said Mayor Tommy Irwin. “We’ve got too much stuff that we own.” AbilityWorks offers a community rehabilitation program for vocational assessment, job training and work experience for individuals with disabilities through contract and subPlease see PROPERTY | 5

“The local unit is committed to helping me do this,” said Hurst. The state president is also obligated to doing a special project. “Half of the $15,000$20,000 will go to a special project,” said Hurst. “I want to do something which will directly impact veterans in Mississippi.” Cost of Friday’s meal – which includes spaghetti, garlic buttered roll and tea – is $5. Homemade peach cobbler will be available for $1. “We will deliver multiple orders for those downtown,” added Hurst. Unit 6 has been busy this year, according to Hurst. “Our ladies have really dug
