Mental health services updates supervisors BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

County supervisors heard a talk about the latest happenings at Region IV Mental Health Services during their most recent session. Serving five counties, the agency has about 400 staff members. “We’ve grown a lot in the last

several years,” said Executive Director Charlie Spearman. “I think within the next 60 to 90 days, we’re going to be adding another 25 to 30 employees to our payroll.” In the calendar year of 2016, Region IV served 10,564 clients in the five counties, with 33 percent of services rendered in Alcorn County.

Region IV’s $27 million budget includes about $3 million to operate the crisis intervention centers in Corinth and Batesville — facilities formerly run by the state. The 36-bed chemical dependency center on New Hope Drive houses one of Region

It’s never too late for a new calendar. The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter’s 2017 fundraiser calendars have been discounted, said Volunteer Director Charlotte Doehner. “We have a very limited supply of calendars left and are ready to move them out as quickly as possible,” said Doehner. “The discounted price will hopefully entice some animal lovers in the community to purchase one.” Originally $10, the remaining calendars are on sale now for $5. Calendars are available for purchase at the shelter at 3825 Proper Street, the Crossroads Museum at 221 North Fillmore Street and online on the shelter’s Facebook Shop. Rupert Sayre, a small fawncolored “Heinz 57” terrier mix, received more than 770 votes in the calendar submission and voting contest which raised $6,492 for the no-kill shelter. Rupert graces the cover of the calendar, as well as a featured month. Another $1,775 was also received from advertisers to help

One of the organizers, Mary Dee Kemp, finds the peonies and other flora at the home of Randy and Tammi Frazier to be “absolutely gorgeous.” “The structure of her garden is spectacular,” said Kemp. “She has an English knot garden with beautiful form.
